This wonderful little Italian restaurant in Homewood has been around for many years. They are in a very old building and the ambiance is great. I had a delicious Calzone filled with Anchovies, Feta Cheese and Canadian Bacon. The food was delicious. Great Italian place that offers just about something for everyone. From pasta to pizza to calzones, you have a lot to choose from. I thought the pastas were overpriced. If I'm spending around $11-15 for a plate of pasta, that better be the best pasta in the world and I think I should be able to get enough for a meal there and as well enough to take home and enjoy another meal off of. During my last visit, I got a cheese calzone with no toppings for about $8 which was a decent price to me. However, my friend ordered several toppings so her topping filled calzone amounted to $19!! That much for one calzone with toppings? I think it was ridiculous she paid more than double just to get meat and veggies in her calzone. The waitress was friendly at first and kept encouraging her to get what she wanted, and not to worry about the additional topping charges. She told us she was only going to charge an extra $2-3 bucks for the first 3 toppings and the rest would be free. Not the case at all. Since we split the check, I ended up paying about $17 including tip for a regular cheese calzone and water. Overall, I will say the food was amazing, but I didn't like the way we were misled about how much our food was cost. I may go back since the calzone was so dang cheesy and delicious, but no more check splitting! read more

DeVinci's is a great spot that offers tasty Italian-inspired dishes and plates of pasta. The atmosphere is great and feels very inviting and home-like. I had the pork and beef ravioli with Alfredo sauce, and it was excellent. The staff was friendly, and for a sit-down Italian restaurant, it was also quick. Overall I would give this establishment 5/5 stars for great food, atmosphere, and service. read more

Holy cow! I am not the biggest fan of calzones but after hearing so much hype about them at work I knew I had to try one. I ordered a cheese and pepperoni calzone and it blew my mind. It has been a long time since I last visited here and had great memories of their pizza but let me warn you! The pizza I had last night could've come out of a pizza kit from Winn Dixie! It was AWFUL! Bland crust, obviously from some institutional dough maker, sauce that was simply canned tomato sauce without any seasonings, institutional cheese and a 45 minute wait to boot! I ordered four toppings but when I got home, there were none of the toppings I ordered and paid for, only cheese. With the pandemic, I am certainly not going to open the box inside with a bunch of strangers standing around so I trusted them to deliver what I paid $32 for but I was wrong. Anyway, word to the wise- there are so many good pizza places in town, there is no reason to waste your money here. Pizza Hut is better! Dominos is better! Heck, a kit from Winn Dixie is better! read more

Yikes. This place was rough. From cockroaches on the bathroom floor to the sauna like atmosphere. If you like eating your meal inside the actual oven where it is cooked then you'll love it here. The only thing hotter than the food is the actual surface of the sun. My mouth still hasn't recovered. When the pizza came out a 9 year old with us said, " Hey, this is just a Digiorno." She wasn't wrong except a Digiorno has a little more flavor. My son had the $20 fettuccini Alfredo. No meat. That just the cost of the Alfredo noodle soup he got. I had the lasagna that wasn't terrible but as mentioned hotter than hot. It wasn't bad only because I like Stouffers lasagna and this very much resembled that frozen delicacy. The service is great. That's the reason for the second star. I don't fault them for not serving great food. Again. If you're looking for a fine Italian meal. Have been eating the Mona Lisa since high school and it has always been great. Haven't had one in about 4-5 years and it was still great, but as of today will not order one again. The quality has gone down hill. The sauce was good, but they are using inferior products- the meat was tasteless ground beef, didn't taste any sausage, didn't see any mushrooms, but worst if all was that it was missing that delicious cheese they use to put on it and the dough/ crust was slick and undercooked and stuck to the cardboard box. This place deserves a far higher rating!! Our experience was so different from the many critical reviews, it is hard to believe we're talking about the same place. Four of us golf buddies had a late lunch/dinner there on a Friday afternoon and were warming welcomed. The place wasn't very busy and Taylor was the sole server and bartender. She immediately told us to make ourselves at home and we did. She was very helpful with the menu and made sure our needs were met. She was very helpful in providing additional plates that we used to share our feast amongst ourselves. The place is clearly an older legacy restaurant in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. Very casual and a great place for families, groups of friends and anyone who enjoys a laid-back kind of old neighborhood Italian joint. The food was way beyond what I expected, having read the reviews before. The salads were fresh, with quality ingredients. We had several pasta dishes and a Stromboli. The pasta (angel hair, fettuccini and ravioli) were cooked to perfection, al dente. Had the DaVinci special pastas with pesto sauce. All excellent. The house bread was a special treat with a crispy crust reminiscent of a great croissant and an interior of delicately chewy bread. Really kind of unique. I just had the worst pizza I have ever had bar-none ! it was nothing but frozen and re-heated from Cisco or Wood fruitticher ..., we ordered a 16" Mona Lisa and it was inedible, we through it a way . The food was pretty good but the server and the guy cashing out the tickets - well, their personalities leave a lot to be desired. It was like they were annoyed we were there to have lunch. This place has long been one of my family's favorite spots. I stopped in for Today for take out today for the first time, and it was just as good to go as it is in the restaurant. They have arguably some of the best lasagna around. This was the worst experience, I've ever had at a restaurant! When we got there they were pretty busy. so we expected to wait but we actually got seated pretty quickly. once at our table our waitress was a dark haired girl. at 7:30 she took our drink orders and brought them out in about 10mins. then said she'll be back. But that's when everything falls apart it took her another 15 mins to get back to us (25 mins in just to order). we ordered egg plant parm, a personal pizza and Alfredo from the kids menu and two starters cheese strips and the garlic loaf add cheese.... it took a whole hour for us to get the starters. she never came back until she had the starters. about five mins into eating our starters she comes back and ask ( are you ready to box this up?). Then proceeds to hand us the ticket before realizing we actually ordered meals. it took another hour to bring that food out. when I got my personal pizza it was cold and tasted as if it had been cooked to long. my sons (2yo) food was extremely hot and reeked of garlic (Alfredo). my cousin said her eggplant parm was decent... this experience was awful we sat for 2hours and 13 mins for a personal pizza, egg plant parm and Alfredo. we watched people come in after us with a bigger party get their food and leave. what really put the icing on the cake, while we were waiting our waitress was sitting down in the back chatting. when I went to the check out I brought this to their attention.! they both (the stud and our waitress) got defensive and said " we were busy" or "it depends on what you order". it is extremely unacceptable to : wait 2 hours for 3 items :waitress not to communicate that there will be a delay : not to have a lick of customer service : no one to be apologetic about the inconvenience I've reached out to the restaurant apparently they have no manager and I was told the owner would be in later I will try calling them back later because I'm am extremely dissatisfied! The staff was friendly, but the food was very mediocre for the price point. I had a small chicken pesto pizza and it was good. My boyfriend had spaghetti and meatballs and it was beyond underwhelming. The sauce tasted like it was straight from a can, it has no character at all. The noodles were over cooked and not well drained, and it wasn't even really hot. The only hot portion of the meal was the melted cheese on top. When I ordered tiramisu the server went to the back for a minute and brought back the dessert slapped on a large plate. It wasn't even a whole piece, it was like it had been scooped and thrown down into a messy glob. Publix has better tiramisu than that. I think this is an okay place to sit at the bar and have a drink and watch the game....maybe share a pizza since that's going to at least come served hot but not much beyond that. Honestly if you're willing to spend $19 for a pasta dish...I'd advise to just got the extra $5-10 for a better Italian spot in Bham. read more

picked up a medium pizza and chicken parm after a pleasant phone-in experience, it was ready when they said and they brought it to the car...EZ to do. Man, was it good. We made two meals out of it, and enjoyed the freshness and homemade taste that is always true here. The pasta dishes are always great and of course the pizza is signature. I was trying to determine whether 3 or 4 stars would be appropriate. The food is 4 stars, but the wait time is pretty long which brings overall to 3 stars. My friend and I were one of two parties in the restaurant for Saturday lunch. We ordered garlic cheese loaf which was tasty, but it took forever for us to get it (15 minutes). For an entree we split the 12" Mona Lisa and it was quite tasty! Very hearty pizza with plenty of toppings in every bite. I must say, it was a little overpriced for a 12" pizza: $22. For that price I would expect the atmosphere to be more like that of Slice in Lakeview. I could see this restaurant going on Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares because the food is good, but the service is just kind of lacking. Our waitress was very friendly, but the place just needs some TLC and a kitchen overhaul. It has the potential to really be something great. read more

Don't blink - you may roll right past this gem. A great little spot to find and anyone in Bham should take the time to find them. The Baked Feta w/ bread was our starter (sorry, we jumped right in and skipped the photo), and the bowl was clean by the time we had to turn it in. My wife's calzone was on point and perfect. The Tortellini w/ Pancetta was on point with the flavor and the side of bread is a great addition to soak up the thinner sauce. Looking at the other dishes that passed our table left us wishing for larger stomachs. We'll venture into the pizzas and the rest of the menu as time permits but after many, many tastes throughout Bham, we may have found the best Italian in town yet. Just okay. We should've known to just go with the pizza. They seemed to be doing a lot of takeout business w pizza. They were fairly busy. We got the fettacini alfredo w chicken. It was not very good. Way too soupy and the cheese sauce was too rich and yellow. The chicken was good, but wish we had just ordered pizza. Service was poor. We had to ask for our bread, a forgotten side salad, napkins, go boxes and walked to the register to ask for our check :( I would only recommend if you wanted pizza and ordered to go. read more

As a DoorDash it's very important to get the order quickly, so as to stay on schedule. I came in and was told the order I was picking up would take 4-5 minutes. It took 20. As I was being given the food I expressed my frustration about the wait time, and then was followed out of the restaurant by the owner/manager. Short guy, white hair. He told me if I have a problem with him to just say it. I told him I have a problem with my time being wasted, because my time is my money. Then I told him to get out of my face and walked away. Thumbs down. Growing up in an Italian dense neighborhood in Ohio and moving to Birmingham after I lived in Italy for several months I was on the hunt for some good authentic Italian food in the area. This place failed me. The sauce was super bland. The person I was with ordered Alfredo sauce and I hate to be too harsh but it was gross. Overall pretty disappointed. To give the place the benefit of the doubt it seems like they are known more for pizza. Devinci's is "alright".... not great..... not bad..... just "alright". Went on a busy night, so it was a bit expected that our food too a while to arrive to the table. That said, I had ordered the angel hair browned butter and cheese pasta and it ended up being a hot mess of fettuccine, spaghetti, and angel hair. I don't want to be a pasta snob, but come on!
