An unpretentious small hole-in-the-wall that's been serving solid Northern Chinese style food with generous portions for over 30 years. Hits: The xiao long bao had a wonderful burst of umami rich broth with tender pork inside. Warm and comforting. The dough a bit thick for my taste. The crispy duck was absolutely spot on. Crackling skin with juicy, succulent, meat. Drew rave accolades from my Shanghainese sister-in-law. My favorite the clams in black bean sauce . I usually prefer smaller clams, and these were on the larger side, but they nailed the sauce. Perfect balance of sweet, salty, and that unmistakable black bean funk. Spoon that sauce over white rice and let me have a moment to myself. Miss: The cold ginger chicken. Good flavors but a bit dry. Good friendly service. There's a small parking lot on the side of the restaurant that can hold about 8 cars. Happy Eating!!
This place is pretty fabulous! The food is amazing and fresh and so good. The orange chicken is incredible!! Soup dumplings wonderful! Honestly everything was so good. All served family style and decent portions, the orange chicken could have a larger portion since it was family style. Service was fast. They are very friendly and so nice. You will most likely need a reservation. It gets packed. There is no parking, so you will have to go down the street across the Chic Fila in the public parking. It also fills up fast. So just prepared to get street parking and walk there. This place is quaint and has 8 tables so be patient, and make sure to get there early and hope you can sit and eat!
Ok hi girlies and friends The bad: let me preface by saying it was a full house. That being said it made sense that it took at least 20-25 minutes to get our first dish. Also I wish they had enough ice to keep the water in the pitchers cold. Meh. Next time I'll just bring a hydro flask. Also the only bathroom is a one stall that makes you take a journey from the dining area, thru the kitchen and down a short hall. Alas I'm a whimsical betch and enjoyed the open house embarkment The good: good service. Friendly. Attentive. For the most part. Restaurant was clean with food ambiance. We got the following dishes: house fried rice, beef broccoli, pot stickers and sesame bread The HFR was interesting with a veggie medley of corn, carrots, green beans, green onion and slivers of onion. It also had lup cheong, shrimp and I think pork. I'd maybe get it again if I didn't want just plain white rice The potstickers. Great taste but no potstickers sauce that I'm used to getting with dishes such as and therefore as gyoza. Alas a concoction of shoyu vinegar and chili paste (?) that was available to us on the table sufficed. The filling was a yummy nugget of pork and chunk of shrimp. Great wrapper too. The texture made me think it was made in house. Beef broccoli was also yums. Broccoli still has crunch while not fearing I'd break a tooth. Beef was juicy and tender. Great flavor. Sesame bread. My cumpanion suggested getting it after reading reviews from other attendees. It was interesting. It was giving pita bread but hot and Asian with white and black sesame seeds. I'd say get it but use it as a vessel to sop up grave from other dishes. Would go again
Just tried this small mom and pop restaurant as was pleasantly surprised on how good some of their dishes were. Not everything was on point but overall it was a good meal. The best things we ate were the orange chicken and pork eggplant. The dumpling soup was a little bland, crispy lamp chops were tasty but a little too oily for my liking. Shanghai dumplings were good. I would like to try here again and try some of their other dishes.
Both times I've ordered Uber Eats from this place has been horrible unfortunately. My partner, my mom, and I ordered from here on Christmas and it was really bad. First, it took nearly 2 hours (uber eats driver's fault, not there's) and when we go it everything was cold and soggy. Our pan fried pork buns were incredibly soggy and somehow WET and mushy also. And our orange chicken had NO ORANGE SAUCE. It was dry. My mom and partner got really bad food poisoning from it afterwards. I will say it was quite late when we ordered it so it may have been the last of what was left, but I don't think that should excuse it. The best thing was the fried rice but it was really basic fried rice. Nothing special. Lowkey ruined our Christmas a bit. Their menu LOOKS so good but the execution is so horrible. Idk if the dine in experience here is different but it should be consistent even with take out. Especially if I'm paying MORE.
My good friend and I love coming here after a day at HoMa. It's the perfect place for an early dinner. she loves the beef over crispy fried noodles, and I love the chicken and mushrooms. Mmm so tasty and comforting! Service is so Aloha. I love this place every time and cannot wait to come back very soon. I think they take reservations but you can sometimes walk in when they first open.
Love this spot cause it's Taiwanese! Got their ja ja mien and shao bing to go! Both comfort foods! Great spot to come for dinner if you're craving Taiwanese foods!?
Dew Drop Inn on Beretania is small--about 8 tables--which makes the room feel intimate. We went on a Sunday at 7 PM and it was buzzing. Every table was full, servers were moving fast, and food was coming out quickly. People kept walking in looking for seats, but the room stayed full. Service was very nice and friendly, and the place felt homey and local We ordered three dishes: dumplings (pork and chives) for $18, Choy Sum Bean Curd for $18, and the Shao Bing (pork, veggies, tofu) for $19. Everything was good, but nothing struck me as special. The exception was the Shao Bing, which was new to us and very delicious. At $18-19, the meal felt pricey for what we got. If I return, it will be for that Shao Bing; the rest didn't justify the price the same way Overall, the food was good but didn't show that extra X factor we look for. Given the $18-19 pricing across the board, that matters. The Shao Bing delivered; the dumplings and Choy Sum Bean Curd did not feel worth those prices
Best Chinese/Taiwanese food I've had in a long time! [Location] This unassuming gem is located on Beretania near Chick-fil-a. There are very limited parking spots to the left-hand side of the restaurant entrance. Drive with caution as there are people that walk by and the space is narrow. You can also park at a metered spot, but be mindful of the time you park and cost. I believe the restaurant has a restroom, though I'm not sure. The space is much larger than it looks, and well ventilated. Nice and cool! Wish I had brought a light jacket. Limited seating. I can see how the place can get packed quickly. [Food] My boyfriend and I enjoyed the Shanghai pork buns (came with black vinegar) which were super delicious! The Taiwanese noodle soup (described spicy) is the star of the menu. The broth is flavorful, lots of aromatics! Plenty of tender beef morsels and delicious ong choy. If you don't like cilantro, you may not appreciate this dish. I also found it interesting that the noodles were more udon-like than I've seen in different renditions of this dish. My boyfriend liked his Mongolian beef but noted it wasn't spicy. I didn't care for the Mongolian beef because there wasn't much to it, in portion or taste. The dish didn't come with rice, so we had to order a side bowl of jasmine rice for $2.00 extra. Good portion of rice, very well cooked. This place is BYOB, though I'm not certain if there is a corking fee. The dishes were priced on the high side but I did leave with plenty of leftovers! [Service] The staff were very kind and friendly, though not the most attentive. We had to ask for hot tea, as we were only given ice waters; however, the tea was flavorless (tasted like water). We also waited quite a while to order (despite being the only ones seated at the time), and even had to get out of our seats to grab some to-go boxes and the check from an employee. Still, we enjoyed our experience and everyone was very pleasant! My boyfriend and I will visit again! Parking isn't fun but the food is worth the hassle.
Dew Drop has been at the same location since the 80s. It's one of the very few local mom and pop restaurants that I like going to. The owner Charlie and wife, Becky, cook up Taiwanese dishes with a local taste. The dumplings are good as well as their ground pork sesame bread pockets. Finish your meal with some black sesame balls. This is a small restaurant seating around 25 people comfortably, but can probably pack 35 diners. Becky runs the front of the house and Charlie does the cooking. Their son Jimmy helps out both in the front and in the kitchen. They have a parking lot next door to the restaurant that has space for 8 cars. If that is full your option is street metered.
Really good Taiwanese style beef noodle soup- tasted like home to me! Portions are great. We shared the noodle soup plus white rice and tasty Mongolian beef. Servers are so friendly but sometimes the language barrier can cause order mixups, so it's best if you're patient or can speak Mandarin Chinese :) looking forward to trying lots else on their menu!
I finally got to try Dew Drop Inn in Honolulu, and I'm glad I did. It was my first time and the place has a quiet charm family-run, with a menu full of northern Chinese dishes that feel both familiar and new. I went in with no expectations, just curiosity. A few dishes really stood out: #12, the cold egg with pressed tofu, had a unique texture and flavor that caught me off guard in a good way. #66, the Szechuan eggplant, packed bold seasoning with just the right heat. #41, the steamed fish with ginger onion sauce, was clean and comforting and #7, the spicy boiled chicken dumplings, were a highlight tender, flavorful and topped with fresh herbs and crispy shallots that gave it a nice lift. I didn't get around to trying #50 (orange chicken) or #58 (salt and pepper lamb) but I did sample #9, the cold jellyfish. It was more subtle than the others, but still interesting. You can tell the kitchen is run with care but I noticed the focus seems to lean more toward takeout these days. The in-person service was quiet, not as hands-on as I would have expected. All-in-all I'm planning to go back with family soon. There's a lot more on the menu I want to try and I'd love to support a local spot that's clearly built on tradition and heart.
When I asked one of my former interns, who was born and raised in China, where does she like eat Chinese food, she recommended Dew Drop Inn. From the outside, you would consider this a hole in the wall. However, it is clean and nicely decorated on the inside. The biggest drawback is that there are only 8 tables, and they are packed at dinner time. (The video of the inside was taken at 5:30 pm, before the crowd.) All of our dishes were tasty and we will be going back. They do not serve alcohol, so bring your own wine or beer. First time trying this restaurant, and i'm ready to come back again!! They have a small parking lot to the left of the restaurant, and you can also park on the street right in front of the restaurant after 6pm. I came in at 5:45pm and it was slow; but then quickly filled up about 10 mins after. I ordered the orange beef and mapo tofu. The mapo tofu came out first and it was good and a bit spicy, which they do describe on the picture. The star of the show for me was the orange beef! It came out maybe 5-10 mins after the mapo tofu but it was worth the wait. It was perfectly crispy and flavorful with the orange sauce. I loved the texture more than orange chicken. I can't wait to come back next time and get this! The employees were very nice and friendly. read more
Small parking lot BUT available Only after 6pm. I arrived at 5 and parked at Walgreens. Had to try the Orange Beef, and it was tasty, huge pieces were a little difficult to manage. Mixed vegetables on pan fried noodles was generous with thick udon style noodles. Gravy for pan fried noodles wasn't great tasted burned. Small but very clean dining room with lean but friendly service. Wanted to try the dumplings but it only come Huge size with huge price. Visit with four or more people to try the best items family size. read more
We were looking for a place with good dumplings because we miss Din Tai Fung. There are a few spots to park next to the restaurant but had to circle the block on park on the street. Street parking is free after 6:00pm. The service was great. Friendly young guy and the food came out fast. I really enjoy the beef with green onions and it comes with 6 buns. So good! Orders the green string beans. The flavor is good but wish it was cooked a little less longer. The bean curd was delicious! Good vegetarian option if you don't want mean. It came with 4 and I ate 3! The shao long Bao was okay. They come in individual tin trays. But they fell apart very easily. The pork inside was a little bland. Overall we enjoyed the food and would definitely recommend. DO.......drop in A post (very post) holiday get together was one of the reasons for DROPping by DDI last month. And the other: simply to catch up with friends. PARKING There is a small lot on the left hand side of the building. Please be cautious as its slightly on the narrow side. Thankfully, we found a spot on the Beretania across from the restaurant. Street parking is free after 6pm, fyi. SETTING The restaurant is welcoming and very cozy. There was only one other party when we arrived; we were seated in a corner opposite of the occupied table. FOOD The menu entrees/dishes are numbered which made it very convenient when deciding what to order. Collectively, we shared: String beans (#70) Shanghai pork meat buns (#16) Pepper salted curry lamb racks (#58) Pepper salted eggfish (#39) Shao Bing sesame bread pockets, pork & veg (#80) I thought all the dishes were amazingly good! Thanks to Kathy A for suggesting the pepper salted eggfish, that was an unexpected delight during dinner. Other favorites were the lamb racks and the string beans. SERVICE I must give much credit to the lone female who looked out for all the customers and tables that evening. She was efficient, quick, and polite. BOTTOM LINE A delicious dinner with friends at Dew Drop Inn. I will have to make it a point to drop by again. read more
This place is so good and I hadn't gone back in years for whatever reason but I decided to go eat there on Friday and it was so good I went back Saturday and I'm still craving more lol. The menu has a lot of choices, and so far everything has been delicious. The spicy dumplings and choi sum was wonderful. The dumplings were so tender and melted in my mouth. Sauce wasn't too spicy so it was perfect to add the black vinegar and more chili sauce. The sesame seed buns with minced pork and vegetables was also delicious. I think this is the main dish to get every time. We ate a sticky rice burrito wrapped around candies pork floss and fried doughnut and that was really yummy and very different than other dishes I've tried before. The braised pork tendon is also really good. It's melt in your mouth tender and we ate it inside steamed buns with a side of green onion and hoisin. House special fried rice was tasty, lots of goodies and not too greasy. Eggplant was also yummy. Service is friendly and laid back. It does get busy and they cook everything up fresh so be prepared to wait a bit. BYOB! read more
I've been here a couple times, and today I just HAD to have their sweet and sour pork. We have been craving it so bad, that I forgot to take a photo of it. Dew Drop Inn is not like Holiday Inn. It is a Chinese Restaurant. Parking: Goodluck! They have very limited parking, but you can also try to find street parking on Beretania Street or Pensacola St. Looking at the bright side, you work up an appetite walking to the restaurant. Ambience: This is a TOTAL Mom and Pop, hole in the wall joint. It's so small that it fits maybe 6 tables in the already cramped restaurant. Service: Each time I've come, I felt pretty good about the service. I can tell they get busy, but the staff are polite and really nice when we come. Why we come: OMG the food is so good. My family agrees that they have a pretty good sweet and sour pork. It's crispy. tangy and juicy in the middle. I feel that the pork portion is a lot more generous. It's really delish! Other family faves is the house fried rice, the soups, and the mantous!! I do have to say the fried mantous has a crispy, buttery top. it moist in the middle and they pull apart like biscuit layers. It comes with some condensed milk to make it ridiculously addicting to eat. Overall, this place is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants to go. read more
Street parking only Shop is a bit smaller, it'll be a tight squeeze- can fit about 20 to 25 ppl Extensive menu but it is pricey - Pan Fried dumplings, abt 10pc ran to about $22 (didn't get to eat any though #sadface) Beef Stew Noodle Soup and String Beans 4.5/5 - yum and I'd recommend these Pan Fried Beef Chow Mein with gravy 3.75/5 - interesting take since here it is with Shang Hai thick chow mein, nice to try once but personally I think this dish works better with thin yellow egg noodles Orange chicken- 3.6/5 House Fried Rice - 3.75/5 Salt and Pepper Fried Fish - 3/5 Skip the Sweet and Sour items and go for the Tomato sauce items instead- it resembles a Peking sauce Wouldn't oppose to coming back and if you're looking for Chinese / Taiwanese food- this is a solid spot read more

Perhaps it was an off-day in the kitchen, but my first experience with Dew Drop Inn did not live up to the hype. I had four dishes delivered and there were several issues. First was the pan-fried chicken and chive potstickers. I give credit to the fact they were filled with ingredients, not air. But they were incredibly oily, so much so that the taste of the oil obliterated the delicate flavors of the chicken and chives. I love curry. I love salt-and-pepper pork chops. I love ribs. So, salt-and-pepper curry pork ribs must be heavenly, except that they weren't. The ribs were meaty, to be sure, and properly prepared and juicy. But other than a yellowish color from the turmeric in the curry, there was only a barely perceptible curry flavor or scent. They also weren't crispy, as salt-and-pepper meats should be. Some of this was likely due to the fact they steamed while in an unvented, tightly-sealed plastic container during the quick delivery, but I don't think that accounts for all of it. And like the potstickers, the ribs were unbelievably oily. On the menu was beef with green onion and bean sprouts. Great, I thought. I haven't had bean sprouts in a long time. But there wasn't a single bean sprout to be found in this dish, just lots of green onion and garlic. They did pair well with the cut of beef used, so the dish was pretty tasty. The final dish I ordered was mushroom chicken in garlic sauce. I got the chicken and garlic, but initially I couldn't see any mushrooms. When I looked closely again, I saw some. They were blocked out by the unexpected appearance broccoli and pea pods. Fortunately I like broccoli, but pea pods are not on my diet. I enjoyed the dish but lamented wasting the pea pods. Had I known they were part of the dish, I wouldn't have ordered it. I'm not allergic to pea pods, but as I get older, I'm getting more and more food allergies, and I'm on a pretty stict diet, so it is really helpful to me when restaurants list at least the main ingredients, which didn't happen with this dish. I also got - and I have no idea why - a container full of buns, the kind you get for mu shu pork. They smell good, but I will give them to a neighbor since eating them would completely derail my diet. I wonder if my order was mixed up with another order. I might try Dew Drop Inn again at some point, but probably not for awhile. read more

This small restaurant has free parking, on the Ewa side of the building. Since there is limited parking stalls, I phone in my order and try to pick up my take out before dinner rush. Usually there's only one waitress and she is friendly and provides a homey feel to this cozy place. Chinese New Year's Day is their busiest day of the year. This year there was one young man, helping with take out orders and it took 1.5 hrs to fulfill order. The Shanghainese culture is not very well represented in Hawaii. This is the closest I can get to chao niangao (炒年糕 'fried year cake'). These non-glutinous, rice, flour cakes are cut into medallions and stir-fried with chicken and vegetables. Note, this restaurant is not Shanghainese but an overall representation of Eastern and Taiwanese dished. This place reminds me of home cooking but often times I feel Popo's one tasted better but I'm comparing their food to a childhood memory, which is not fair. read more
So happy to revisit this Northern Chinese style restaurant after several years. Didn't realize how much I missed it till I returned! Small and bustling, there was a constant flow of customers all serviced by an incredibly capable waiter who was able to serve& bus tables, answer the phone, and run the register solo in a calm, efficient, and polite manner. He needs to train others in this post pandemic service industry! Everything was good and LOVE that they can make kick ass tasty food without MSG!! Other Asian restaurants please take note!! I've been wanting to try this place for awhile and found myself in the area right when they opened. We found parking nearby since their lot was full and walked over. We were seated immediately and the restaurant is small but very clean. Our waiter was super friendly and managed all the tables while also handling a ton of takeout orders. We got the Shanghai pan-fried meat buns, orange chicken, fantuan and the Shao Bing with pork and tofu. It was a ton of food for two people and we had a lot of leftovers to take home! The Shanghai buns were more of a dumpling texture and had a nice crispy bottom. The orange chicken was really fresh and the sauce wasn't overpowering at all. The Shao Bing and fantuan were good too. Was visiting and craving some local Chinese food! We were able to get in 30 minutes before closing and the staff were so welcoming and nice about it. We sat down in the humble shop on Beretania street. There is some parking in their lot but plenty of street parking as well! We really enjoyed everything we had. Some dishes we loved were the veg Shanghai buns, green onion pancake, and the orange chicken. Next time we are in the area, we will definitely be back! read more

Good delicious food, but the wait for the server to take our orders took about 20 minutes, then another 20-30 minutes for the food to be served. The restaurant is a bit small; they need extra servers. Parking is very limited, so most likely you would park on the street if you can find a spot. read more
I was honored to be invited to dine here with an awesome group of people. Sorry this review is a bit late. The menu was preselected which was great as I was able to try different dishes. Everything was very tasty and would gladly dine here again. Parking can be a bit tricky as there are only a small amount of stalls to the left of the restaurant. I was lucky to find free street parking after 6pm! Thank you to our lovely hostess who organized a wonderful evening! read more

Yelp recommendations do it again! I wanted to know the best Chinese restaurant in Honolulu for Chinese New Year, and this place came up. I always look at reviews and a few mentioned the size of the restaurant and making a reservation. I easily did this using Google Assistant. When we got to the restaurant there was a line out of the door, I couldn't tell if it was a line for dining in or carry out. Finally the female server (perhaps owner?) working looked up from the counter area and asked the party behind me about a reservation and I said I had one. We sat for a bit and nobody came to the table so I wasn't sure if we were supposed to order at the counter or if someone was going to take our order. So I put my son in line after I saw some other tables getting up to stand in line out of confusion. He stood there for about 10 minutes until the server came to take our order lol We ordered the Soup dumplings and scallion pancakes to start, roast duck with buns, salt and pepper fish, Szechuan eggplant, and garlic green beans The food took a really long time but this being Chinese New Year and the continuous flow of carry out and dine in, I could understand why. The scallion pancake and soup dumplings were good, I wanted to order the chicken chive dumplings but didn't want to overdo it. I'll order that next time. The garlic green beans were perfectly cooked. The Szechuan eggplant had a great flavor but was not spicy at all. The duck was perfectly cooked and the buns to go with it were perfect. The salt and pepper fish was a new order for me, and I decided to order it after seeing the picture. It was perfectly fried and seasoned, this was the unexpected hit of the night. Service was efficient and friendly considering how busy they were. All of that food only cost $124, and we had plenty to take home. I would definitely come back here. Great service and delicious food! Especially if you're into soup dumplings. I haven't tried too many but this place has good ones. The dumpling skin isn't too thick and there's ACTUALLY piping hot soup in it. We went around 8 PM. Restaurant maybe half full ish? Parking: they have a parking lot, but it isn't too big. There's street parking nearby. We went at 8pm so there was decent amount of free street parking. Service; 5/5 stars. Small restaurant, maybe family owned? Not too sure. Water always refilled. Service kind. Server helped me pack the leftovers and even added some rice for free, turning it into a bento. Thank you! Food: delicious! The soup wasnt all absorbed into the meat or the wrapper so it was true soup dumplings! Would be good if the soup dumplings were a little bigger, but ours came with 8 so it was plenty enough to share for two. The beans were delicious and not mushy. Mongolian beef had vegetables in it which I loved. Overall I'd def come again! Excited to try their fried soup dumplings next time. read more

I thought I've discovered a hidden gem when I found out about this place. Turned out it's not so hidden and many of my friends grew up eating their food! They serve mainly Taiwanese and Northern Chinese food (however doesn't feel the food is that Northern). It's a very small restaurant and I think it's a family business? The day I went I saw an uncle working in the kitchen and an auntie taking care of all the customers including take out orders. So do expect a wait when you go but the food is totally worth the wait. They have an extensive menu and everything looks so good on the menu. Some dishes we have tried: Beef tendon as appetizer: perfect texture, a little spicy. The green onions, cilantro and cucumbers made this dish very refreshing. Pork buns: they were really good the skin was not too thick and not greasy at all. Drunken chicken: the chicken flavor was too strong and couldn't taste much of the wine...maybe did not marinate long enough. Orange Chicken: it's not the typical American Chinese kinda orange chicken. The chicken was tender coated with a thin layer of sauce instead of awfully sweet syrup. Stir fry tofu with vegetables: so much wok hei in this dish. They have a small parking lot outside but I'd suggest to park on Beretania instead especially if it's after 6pm. read more
Dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii... Dew Drop Inn has been around for many many years. It's a cozy restaurant on the right side of Beretania Street as you're driving towards Ewa direction. They have eight free parking stalls on their lot. My friend asked me where we should go to eat. I suggested Dew Drop Inn because I had never been there before. She agreed right away because she had never dined there either! She had seen an article (in the past) in our local newspaper about their Taiwanese and Northern Chinese cuisine and had always wanted to go! I had known about Dew Drop Inn because my Yelp friends had gone there on one of my work nights... Aiyah! We had reservations for 6:30pm on a Friday evening. Luckily, we found street parking (free after 6pm) on Beretania Street. All eight parking stalls were taken by that time. Inside the restaurant, we enjoyed the Chinese decor and dim lighting. We had a corner table which was great for our lengthy conversation. Scanning the QR code for the menu is helpful because there are photos of the various dishes. We ordered by number and our server clarified each item. Our meal consisted of: *Pan Fried Dumplings - highly recommended - especially when dipped in vinegar *Long green beans with ground pork - a bit overcooked and could use more seasoning *Crispy duck - mmm! That skin! It came with hoisin (plum) sauce! *Xiao Long Bao - I like these soup dumplings and wished that we had more red vinegar with fresh ginger - we finished it all up. I also used the white vinegar that was on our table. We asked for spoons for our dumplings, so we could surround the dumpling in vinegar with each bite! *Shrimp and Scallops in Garlic Sauce - very flavorful Overall, we enjoyed our experience. Service could be better, but we saw that the lone female was busy. She was cheerful and added on an additional table to give us more space for our feast. She let us stay a long time. We just love the dew drop inn. It has great selection of food and every dish we've had has been perfectly seasoned. That is the perfect amount of salt. We prefer to taste the natural flavors of the food so do not care for overly salty or sweet foods. We ordered the following items today and shared them. The Braised butter fish was great of course its really sable fish or sometimes called black cod. It was very tasty with some nice Bokchoy leaves. The miso sauce was very light which was great. We also had their hot sizzling Garlic beef that had plenty of spicy heat as well. The beef was properly thin sliced and very tender and tasty. It was smothered in bean sprouts onion and loads of garlic. Excellent dish. We also had the steamed shao long Bao or Pork dumplings which are very tasty and the sweet vinegar ginger sauce is a perfect compliment. We did bring our own bottle of wine which really reduces meal costs. And is a plus. They are still using paper serving plates and plastic cups so bring your own wine glasses. So, I finally took my friend to dinner. She heard about Dew Drop 30 years ago while working at Kaiser Behavioral Science training and visited the people at Kaiser Clin, Honolulu. However, she couldn't pull herself away. Besides it didn't help me trying to catch up on my reviews and reading fellow Yelpers. My cravings got to me. Main Dishes: Vegetable spring Bean Curd (stuffed with rice noodles, mushrooms) with Choy Sum Braised Butterfish Mu Shu Egg and pancakes Brown Rice Two different type oranges His food has been sought after 30 years back...why? It's so flavorful, cooked to perfection, savory, and many different textures. It hits my senses and am in this merriment of joy! That bean curd is a perfect example, signature dish, and found only at his restaurant. They gave us these chilled oranges which cleared my palate and so refreshing! We met Chef Charlie who came out to greet and meet us. What a wonderful interchange of history between these two (Chef Charlie and Friend) who missed each other over thirty years due to circumstances. I think we went over board on purchasing food?! It was all worth it...easy $70. I'm glad I brought her here! They are Taiwanese, Shanghai, and bit of Szechuan on a few dishes...only one from your typical Cantonese, explosion of Szechuan, and Mandarin. This is one of my hit restaurant. After hearing a great recommendation to try the food here, I finally had the opportunity and it did not disappoint! Dew Drop Inn serves a variety of entrees including dumplings, noodle soups, stir frys, and more. They are located along the right side of beretania st (right before McDonald's). Food: We ordered the spicy won ton and their popular shao bing sesame bread pockets with pork and tofu. The won ton was delicious, well seasoned and not overly spicy. Very tolerable! The sesame bread pockets however was definitely the highlight! They bring out warm bread pockets that you're supposed to stuff with their filling (pork and tofu). The pork and tofu was like a stir fry and went really well with the bread. Ambience/service: We went on a Saturday evening and luckily grabbed one of the last few tables. It's a very cozy restaurant; kind of tight spacing, but still gives that "comfort style" vibe that matches their food. The waitress is very accommodating and is clearly working hard as she's trying to tend to all the tables. I would say that our food took a little longer to come out, but understandable as it seemed they only had 1-2 cooks in the back. Overall, a great experience for my first time here! Finally got to try here since either they weren't open due to covid or now not open till 4pm Only got hot sour soup and mushroom chicken and a mochi rice. Wanted to get other items to try but coming from a event all day I was tired. Anyways hot and sour soup was about average, could use a bit more tang and spice but otherwise it's OK. Mushroom chicken was also ok, really garlicky which I'm ok with my I know a few people that aren't big fans of heavy garlic. Chicken was OK and mushrooms was adequate. Mochi rice was little different. When I hear Chinese mochi rice I assume Jung that's wrapped in the leaf with the duck egg. This one was plain white sticky mochi rice, with a fried crispy Chinese donut yes! With sprinkles of dried shredded pork that's found in those jars and small pieces of pickled mustard cabbage. Haven't been in a while, but Aunty was talking about it recently so decided to do take out for Ma's birthday. Hubs fried up some menpachi so only ordered 5 dishes (2-3 orders of each) to feed about 7 adults, 2 kids, and 2 adults who were coming from another party. My cousin also brought a pan of deconstructed spam musubi, so good thing I didn't order any rice. I placed my order the day before to do a 5:45pm pick up. Early for dinner so I got parking in front. Surprisingly a lot of people already eating. I got there about 10 minutes early...and good thing since I'm pretty sure they hadn't even started it. I was there for about 30 minutes until I got all my food. It's small and there aren't many workers so don't expect a quick meal. I guess don't expect to have your call in order ready either - or maybe call them 30 minutes early to remind them. Other than standing around for nothing, it was an easy enough process and I got everything I ordered. Shrimp in Lobster Egg Sauce - Kinda like an egg drop soup. Little too cornstarchy thick for me, but was tasty and had a lot of stuff in it. Pepper Salted Pork Spareribs - Soft and pretty meaty, but needed salt. A little on the bland side. Garlic Ong Choy - Perfectly cooked and still had a little crunch to it, and very tasty. Sesame Pockets - Usually one of my faves, but I ordered the Pork, and got Chicken. Pork is better...chicken is okay. I wouldn't order the chicken normally. Rice Noodle w/ chicken, egg, shrimp - More specifically, 4 shrimps, so don't expect a lot of them. But tasty. Choke leftovers. Aloha! This is only our 2nd time eating from here, & I must say that this place serves some mighty fine tasting Northern Chinese Food!! Shhh...I won't tell my Hubby that tho (the food here is Supah Tasty!!), he's the one that stopped by this place last yr during Covid times 7/2020 & fast forward to this evening 9/2021, which we are still in this Pandemic Worldwide!! When we dropped by last yr '2020, you could not dine-in on at all, just take-out only. But, now you may dine-in, which I can't wait to come back & try more of their yumminess Northern Chinese Cuisine, Yesssss please!! Since we were on our way home from Shopping, my Hubby automatically stopped here, by then this Restaurant was going to close @9:00 p.m., so take-out for us it was, right. He choose what he wanted to eat (Ong Choy w/Beef, & I choose something pertaining to Chicken of course (Orange Chicken). Lol. Pretty cozy looking clean place from the inside, since I popped into the Restaurant, since I needed to choose my Dinner selection, while my Hubby already put in his order. Our order was done rather quickly, the nice lady brought our Din Din to my Hubby outside there Restaurant, while I hung out in Hubby ka'a. Dinner from here this evening @Dew Drop Inn was Delicious!!!
