WOW! Hadn't been here for a few months (3/4) and what a change. And NOT for the better. First off it's FILTHY. I mean nasty. Just look at that front door! Torn up window tint and trillions of stains & fingerprints. Looks as though it has never been cleaned. Ever. I don't like judging books by their covers having eaten around the world and cleanliness standards are not always U.S. level. Especially Southeast Asian street food. You gotta let the sanitary issue go to enjoy the experience. But this is inexcusable. Floors dirty, booths, worn and dirty, peeling paint, etc. So on to the food. Not good. The soup dumplings were dry, the shumai strange and extra chewy, my wife wouldn't even look at them. Shrimp dumplings, OK. Steamed pork, tasteless, and either all bone or fatty. Steamed roast pork buns had the heaviest consistency, Not in any way fluffy. Just odd. The West Lake soup was wayyyyy overspiced with cilantro and contained large chunks of broken up hamburger meat. I used to love this soup, but this was inedible. And the worse dish was the Singapore Chow Fun. The noodles were so overcooked, very little in the way roast pork (and the few pieces present were all fat), chicken and beef. There were a few shrimp. But the real letdown was the taste or I should say lack of (taste). For a dish that is supposed to be curry heavy it was super bland. Prices all seemed to have gone up by a buck or two. But that s***s everywhere. Service was mediocre at best, while the 3 dudes in there just sat at tables on their cellphones. With so many good dim sum places in the Asian District Mesa, this place is a horror and should really just close. Or BE closed by the health inspector. AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! read more

Love this place!! I was craving for some dim sum after a sporting event. I placed an order online and drove only a few miles from my hotel to picked it up. Their Shu Mai are huge!!! I was really surprised when I opened the box, I was expecting them to be those small one you often see at the Chinese restaurant but they are not!! I also got their beef chow fun, which was the main reason I picked this place, their portion is huge well!! Totally getting your money worth!! I knew I had to get one when I looked at their picture. I highly recommend this place if you are craving for some good dim sum. I will definitely be back here next time when I m in town. read more

When you walk in, you are greeted promptly and given a menu and a dim sum menu to write on. There are a lot of dishes to choose from, and my family tries to get 1 or 2 new items with our usual picks. The food comes out as it is made, so it doesn't arrive all at the same time. Everything I have tried it super tasty and piping hot. The soup dumplings are the best. My 10 year old can eat a whole order so we get 2. My family comes here about once a month and on special occasions. Good food from a small family restaurant is the best way to go. read more

Discovered this hidden gem & will definitely be back! The food was so fresh, steamy, & yummy! We ordered the soup dumplings, sticky rice, beef chow fun (so good!), bbq pork buns (very soft & fluffy), bbq pork slices (could've skipped this one), taro buns (absolute must have specially if you're from Hawai'i) & sesame balls. The food was good and there were a lot of flavors. The service was on point with items coming out quickly and they were always ready to pick up the dirty plates. Wanting to try a new place for Dim Sum. Checked Yelp, I was in this neighborhood with my friend and here we are. The restaurant is a tiny, a hole in the wall, run by a very small friendly staff (family run, not sure). It is not your typical Dim Sum restaurant, dishes are made to order, so it takes some time after you place your order. Located on a side of a very old strip mall, was hard to find at first. One thing I worried about when I walked in at 12:00 (lunch time) was only 4 tables filled. A very nice women came over to take our order. We ordered Steamed Shrimp Dumplings, Shanghai Soup Dumplings, Crispy Chicken Egg Rolls and Beef Chow Fun. The food took a little longer than I expected, again, dishes are made to order including the dim sum. First came the Egg Rolls, golden, hot but bland tasting and the sweet and sour sauce was horrible. Next came the Steamed Shrimp Dumplings that were good, then the Soup Dumplings, good, but the filling could have had a little more flavor. The best was the Beef Chow Fun, that was excellent. The way NYC Chinatown makes it using a hot hot fire with a smoky taste, not saucy like I've had everywhere else in Arizona. Atmosphere: typical hole in the wall Chinese restaurant. The food was fantastic especially their chow fun noodles - we will certainly be back for those! The dim sum plates were great specifically the egg rolls and soup dumplings! My 2 cons/improvement recommendations would be to add more vegetarian dim sum options for example I would have loved to see vegetable buns, tofu, vegetable dumplings, etc. otherwise the service was friendly and the food was great! read more

I've been here twice and both times the staff sits in the middle of the restaurant at a large table eating. They take a break in between bites to help the customers but it's not a great look. While the table in the middle is being used by the staff, the customers get seated along the outside in booths that have rips in the material nicely patched with duct tape. From my booth location I could see a large soda machine with every dispenser having an out of order sign on it. I kind of wondered why they would leave such a large machine out on the counter if it didn't work. Then my answer came when someone asked for water (you had to ask for a glass of water) and I saw the use it for ice and water. The dim sum cafe's best days are behind it. The dim sum cafe is an order by menu place and typically with those you get the food as it is made, however for some reason each dish came out one at a time with a wait in between. Maybe they only have one steamer. The shumai was pretty big and not too bad but the sticky rice was just an overcooked gooey mess that I took home for the dog. The rest was okay. read more

While eating here I felt rushed even though we were only sitting there for total of 1 hour even though we waited for our food for 15 minutes. The old woman with the short bob haircut kept glaring at us and taking away our plates when we weren't even finished. Midway through our dinner she plops down the check and walked away without saying a word. We weren't even done eating nor did we ask for the check yet. When we paid no thank you or anything. They turned off their open sign at 8 and they didn't even closed until 8:30. We left around 8:10 while still another table there, so not sure what that woman's problem was. We are polite and courteous patrons and not needy. The other younger woman with the short wavy hair was nicer, thus the 2 stars is for her or else i would have given 1. This place is worth trying but I wouldn't hurry back. The XLB or soup dumplings were good. To make them excellent, I would've preferred thinner wrapper and julienned ginger to be served with the black vinegar dipping sauce. These I might go back for. The other dim sum items I tried were solid. The shu mai, bean curd roll and har gow were better at Mekong Palace. The bean curd roll was served with partially congealed sauce, like it had been steamed then allowed to cool off too much. The chicken feet were better here. I also got their specialty dried fish & chicken fried rice and their spicy eggplant with shrimp dishes. Those were solid also. At $18 though, they were just a few dollars more than I would expect to pay from a place with hole-in-the-wall ambience and lackluster service. read more

Do you remember the old phrase "The early bird catches the worm"? It rings true at Dim Sum Cafe. Arriving at 11:59am meant the difference between being immediately seated and a 30 minute queue standing outside. Sorry to those who got there minutes later! The star of the show was for sure was the Pork and Shrimp Shumai. The pieces were substantial in size and packed with flavor. Dipped in a touch a chili oil, made them burst with more flavor. That's saying a lot from someone who doesn't care much for shrimp or spicy foods. XLB is always a winner in my book. The (Juicy Pork) Shanghai Soup Dumplings were yummy. While warm, they might have been a smidge better if served hotter (by temperature, not spice). That said, a very good offering. One of the two servers then brought the check and must have wondered why I had a puzzled look on my face. The order of Vegetable and Pork Buns never arrived. Then it took about an additional 20 to wait for it to be prepared. The onion mixed into the meat provided plenty of flavor. Otherwise, they were just okay. Given the extra wait time, I wish I had passed. Thankfully, the staff was pleasant and working hard to meet the needs of the growing crowd outside. While I think I'll pass on the Vegetable and Pork Buns next time, I'll definitely be back for the Shumai and the XLB! read more

After being cooped up for quite some time we were looking to introduce some "freshness" to the family diet so we decided to revisit for some Dim Sum once again. We got the BBQ Pork Buns, Custard Buns, Pork Shumai, and Shanghai Soup Dumplings (XLB). Buns were all quite tasty, and the Chinese BBQ Pork came in a generous portion slathered in sauce. No soup dumplings leaked! There wasn't that much soup in them, but better than a leakage happening. I prefer a soup dumpling half-full than all-empty (that's the expression right?...) I've been to Dim Sum Cafe a couple of times now and it really hits the spot. My favorite menu items are the Xiao Long Bao, BBQ pork buns, and shrimp dumplings. I would like to explore more of the entrees based on good reviews here... but I keep doing back for the dim sum. I really like their dumpling sauce and chili oil (be sure to ask for the chili oil!). I really appreciate that the BBQ dumplings are smaller so you can eat more of them, and there seems to be a better filling/bun ratio. I also love that the shrimp dumplings have nice big pieces (and in some cases whole) shrimp! Service was friendly, efficient, and quick. Even the day before the Lunar New Year! My only criticism is sometimes the dumpling wrappers seem a bit thick and there could be more soup in the soup dumplings. But overall, if you want to satisfy your dim sum craving, this is the place. read more

The size of the shrimp dumpling and shumai were bigger than you would get at the other Dim Sum restaurants serving via steam cart. The service was quick and straight to the point.
