Garlic Spare Ribs: The most surprising dish, very juicy after one bite Shaomai: delicious! The prawns are very fresh, and I even want to buy another cage to pack back to the village hhh Steamed Chicken Feet: It is very authentic steamed chicken feet with black bean sauce It is worth mentioning that the foreman is really interesting. Seeing that we two girls wanted to pay the bill before finishing the dim sum platter, he even asked us to eat it before paying the bill. Shrimp Har Gow 9.53/10- so good, came out piping hot. The Hargow is enveloped by a delicate, chewy wrapping. The shrimp itself was so juicy, and full of flavor. The chili oil they gave to accompany the shrimp har gow was fantastic- very fresh and authentic. Truffle roast duck dumpling 10/10- this was incredible. The duck was marinated in different spices, and was incredibly tender. The truffle added so much flavor to the dumpling, making it incredibly rich and decadent. Scallion pancakes 8.76/10- incredibly crispy and flaky on the outside, but very hot and chewy on the inside. Very evident flavor of scallions and sesame. read more

If you're ever stuck in midtown and wondering where you can get a solid quick bite, Dimsum Palace is the place to be. Now I realize that Dimsum is a lunch/brunch dish, but this place defies tradition and make fresh tasty potstickers and shu mai all day long. They also present an assortment of great hot larger dishes where you can indulge. Given the ease of transportation and the number of options it presents, I think I can confidently say that it rivals many of the places in the LES or Chinatown. Has kind of high prices especially for some of the bigger platters which is the only complaint about the food. There's a few locations in Manhattan but this is the closest to Chinatown and convenient to get to from there. Has a whole lot of dumplings of course. It's a small place. There's not much room and you should make reservations if it's a big party. Majority of the menu is the dumplings. These mostly have meat like pork. Among these are a few vegetarian options. The best one is the Vegetarian Dim Sum Platter. It's $14.95 and you get a good variety of colors and flavors. This is a pretty good item for takeout. It holds up well for later. The dumplings are filled with minced vegetables and come with hot pepper paste and sauce. A pretty convenient location around Chinatown. It's on 2nd Avenue at 3rd Street. I was in the East Village area of NYC near 2nd Ave and East 4th Street and was having a strong craving for Dim Sum. Dim Sum Palace was close by and had 4-5 star reviews. Although Dim Sum Palace is the name of the restaurant, their offerings for Dim Sum are very limited and only available during the lunch hour (11-3pm). I was torn what to order, as I arrived 5 minutes to 3pm... I opted for the Chinese lunch menu, as it came with soup. Overall, the Service was not great. I was the only dine-in customer at 3pm. The service and cook staff were all sitting down eating their lunch, so no one to greet me when I entered the restaurant. I chose my seat and previewed the dim sum and lunch menus. I tried to ask the server for recommendations; he was not very helpful or engaging. I went with the Singapore Rice Noodle lunch special... it didn't come with rice nor an egg roll. The hot and sour soup was tasty but thick. It had a nice flavor profile but it was like eating gelatin. The Singapore Noodles was heavy on the sodium, probably because of the spam as one of the meat options in the dish. Heat levels were good. Quantities of shrimp in this lunch portion was adequate. There were no condiments on the table, it would have been nice to have some crispy chili oil or paste. I had to ask for soy sauce when he eventually passed by me assisting the couple of To-Go orders that came in while I was dining. My water glass went empty; and the server didn't interact with me at all except when he took my order and finally brought my bill. I feel like I was interrupting the staffs' lunch break. The ambiance was nice; clean interior; the restrooms were decent; soft music playing in the background. The temperature of the restaurant could have been cooler, especially on that hot July summer day. Came here at 11 and there was no wait to get a table, but eventually this place got quite busy, so would recommend getting here early. The food itself was eh, but more expensive compared to Chinatown. We tried a couple of different things, like the shrimp dumpling, custard bun, long fen, shu mai, pudding, wood ears, etc. Compared to other dim sum places in NYC, I thought they just tasted about the same (mediocre, not bad but nothing surprising), but it was just more marked up in price. Yesssss We knew when we went to NYC that we wanted some authentic dim sum, and were surprised to find this place with such high reviews outside of Chinatown. Fear not. It was still fantastic. It's a small place so they don't have the carts of dim sum rolling through. Instead you order via the menu what you'd like, and honestly nothing really disappointed. Everything was delicious, and while I wouldn't call them the speediest dim sum place (we waited a long time for some sesame balls), when we got them we knew that they were made fresh just for us. It's also a tradition that we try the beef chow fun whenever we go to a Cantonese restaurant. Beef chow fun isn't offered in most Chinese restaurants and this one hit it out of the park. The noodles had the right amount of smokiness, and you knew that they had cooked it in a wok with the right temperature flame and for a good amount of time. They easily aced this test for us. We came here on national dumpling day after getting turned down by a few other places that were full. I've had it bookmarked so was excited to try! It took an abnormally long time to get our food as people that came in after us got served before so I think they might have forgot to put in our order because they were also surprised when we hadn't got our food yet. The BBQ pork buns were the best hands down. The dumplings were good. The texture was suuuuper sticky which was interesting and unexpected but okay. The pineapple fried rice was good too, the crab meat was very limited and it needed a fair amount of sauce but overall good. These were larger than others I've had before. Pan fried pork and chive dumplings - very good! Nice crisp from the pan. Good with soy sauce. Shu mai - my least favorite of the bunch but while very tasty. I like them with chili oil sauce. Shanghai juicy pork buns - phenomenal! My favorite item we ordered. The best is popping them in your mouth. The delicious pork broth inside was amazing! Must order item! Pan fried tiny buns - pillowy and crispy at the same time. Excellent texture and flavor. BBQ pork buns - classic item done so well here. Pillowy bun loaded with BBQ pork, enough said! Great with vinegary ginger sauce. Pineapple cheese wontons - fantastic! Sweet and creamy. We tried the Peking duck here and it was a fun experience. They come out with the duck and cut it in front of you, and then they have buns with scallions and hoisin sauce. They made 6 buns with duck for us and then gave us a separate plate with the rest of the duck. The skin was very crispy and the meat was well seasoned and flavorful. Consistently solid and delicious dim sum spot. It's a bit pricey, $7 for 4 siu mai, but that makes sense, considering their location! Everything we had was done well, from the chrysanthemum tea (it was late, no caffeine for me) to the hargao and the siu mai. Their daikon cake was perfectly crisp with a thin layer of charred exterior and juicy and flavorful interior. Their sheng jian bao was not the most flavorful I've had but still a great bao overall.
