Celebrated Valentines Day at one of my favorite restaurants in this area, as a Sacramento native this is always a MUST STOP. We were a group of 2 couples and man did we order a spread! We ordered the Shrimp Fried Rice, Sautéed Bok Choy, String Beans w/Pork, Pan Fried Chives & Shrimp Dumplings, Honey Walnut Shrimp & the Pork Xiao Long Bao. Every single plate had an explosion of flavors, minus the bok choy which gave that fresh balance of veggie that we needed. (Still very good) The Pork Xiao Long Bao dumplings are 5/5! We ordered 3 baskets and I can honestly say I had a set of 8 to myself with no problem. The string beans and honey walnut shrimp went perfectly together. All in all, our whole meal was delicious and cooked to perfection. We hardly took any leftovers home. The restaurant is a packed house a majority of the time and with great reasoning! The service is pretty good, they definitely do a good job at managing the crowd. I will always recommend this restaurant and have yet to experience anything negative. Awesome XLBs, Efficient to the point service, super crowded on a Saturday evening, but we were seated within 20 minutes for our party of three. Contemporary warm and simple interior that yet reflects its Taiwanese heritage. Our six plates came out quickly with the first arriving within 10 minutes of ordering. Pork Xiao Long Baos: The highlight at DinnDing are their Incredible pork Xiao Long Baos (XLBs) with perfect thin and malleable skin on the outside, delightful yet copious soup & tender pork filling that isn't too salty on the inside. As with any good XLB, each of Din Dong's XLBs pulls away from the steam tray nice and jiggly! Take a bite off the top and the skin presents a subtle gentle feel that delivers a playful resistance before giving way to the insides. PERFECTION!! I've been to a ton of XLB places, even the famous one, and in my opinion, the Pork XLBs here set the highest bar. 11/10! Steamed Fish Dumplings: Medium thickness skin with excellent texture, tender fish and veggie filling that doesn't smell or taste fishy at all. Best Fish dumplings we've had anywhere.. (9.95/10) Pro tip: Add a teeny bit of chili oil to the fish dumplings for an extra kick! Garlic Spinach: On point, and a nice steamed super healthy contrast to the dumplings we ordered. Plenty of diced garlic throughout. (8.5/10) Dry-Fried String Beans with Pork: That said, we've also had the dry-fried string beans with pork here, and I prefer those a bit more due to the charred wok aroma of that one. (9/10) Ok.. maybe it isn't fair comparing a steamed entree vs a fried one.. Perhaps we will order BOTH of the veggies next time ! :) Shrimp and Pork Potstickers: Tons of minced pork inside, no skimping with any veggie filler like most places. Served upside down with a beautiful crunchy thin to medium thickness crust, but a fair bit oilier than I expected. -1.0 for the oiliness. -0.5 for the lack of veggies that really DO add to the flavor. (7.7/10) Pork & Shrimp Shu Mai (8.8/10) Great taste and texture to the skin, minced pork & shrimp on the inside and topped off with a teeny tiny shrimp at the top! Pretty good.. Verdict: Our favorites are the XLBs, String Beans, Fish Dumplings and the noodle soups and plates we've had here on previous visits. If you expect this to be like Din tai fung then you are going to be disappointed like me. Took my husband and baby for Father's Day dinner. It was so packed that we had to wait a while to get seated. I called them for reservation but they said they don't take any and can't add to waitlist on Yelp as well. When we went there they asked us to add our name to Yelp waitlist at kiosk. What a joke. Came on a Friday evening right as it opened and there was no wait. This is a solid spot for dumplings, noodles, and other bites. Service was efficient and I have no complaints there. For 2 people, we ordered the sliced potato salad, tomato egg noodle, pork xlb, potstickers, and shrimp toast. - The potato salad is a flavorful cold appetizer - I liked it but my friend didn't care too much for it. - Tomato egg noodles were very tasty. - Shrimp toast could use more shrimp but it was still very good and the sauce is tasty. It didn't feel too greasy at all the way shrimp toast can sometimes be. - Potstickers were meaty and juicy. The bottom wasn't that crispy though and was a bit thick - XLB - very good and a reason to come back here. Get here early because it gets busy!! My group got here around 7pm on a Friday and there were quite a few groups waiting already, we couldn't add ourselves onto the Yelp waitlist on our phones and had to do it on the iPad at the restaurant. We waited 30 mins to be seated. Ordering is easy, you fill out what you want on the menu just like in dim sum. We got the zhajiang noodle, spicy chili wontons, chow mein, honey walnut shrimp, and xiao long bao. Their noodles are hand pulled so you know it's super authentic. They were perfectly bouncey and had a good chew to it. Both noodle dishes were tasty and large portions. The xiao long bao was probably the star of the show. The soup was delicious, the meat had good flavor and the skin although a little thick at the top was good all around. The wontons were a bit lackluster, it didn't taste like mala chili wontons which was what I was expecting. The honey walnut shrimp was good, but I felt like it lacked mayo on it. I have been trying to eat here for a long time, and every time we come there is a long wait and I see why now. Came in for my nephews 30th Birthday with a party of 14. I called to see if they take reservations, and they do not. But the gentlemen who answer the phone was very nice and accommodating. I asked how busy they are on a Tuesday night at about 5:30pm, hes said we should be fine about that time, but also took down my name and number. When we arrived they had our tables ready, give us one big round table that sat 12 and the 4 top. Worked out perfectly. Just this alone I would give them a 5 star review. We order a lot of dishes. So all I'm going to say is that everything we ordered with the exception of the fried rice was amazing!!! Packed with authentic flavors. The fried rice was blend. Delicious food--we drive an hour and cross a bridge each way to get here! Daiso and grocery market next door while you wait. Service is very fast, and the restaurant is very modern. Lots of bright lights, fans, and you can see into the kitchen to see how the food is being made! Some food notes: zhejiang noodles are super long--use the scissors they provide. Family Favorite! You will never have a bad dish here, the dumplings, noodles, rice dishes are perfect. Thai tea is top tier. It's the perfect spot for larger groups, everything is served in family style portions, and they have large tables. If you're vegetarian, the spicy tofu dish (not spicy just flavorful) and vegetarian baos (an order comes with 3) are 100/10. Also our group always calls it a din thai fung dupe! Din Ding used to be good and relatively priced. Not the case anymore. It's been a few years since I last ate at one. Had always been the original location before there was a fire and they relocated. This was the first time that I have been to this particular location. Only the dumplings are still good but it has gone up in price. Ordered the combo chow mein. A big disappointment as it was just enough for two people to eat. They make their own noodle so that they have given more. Not worth the $18.50. Could easily gotten it somewhere else. Perhaps Baby Café which is a few doors down. Yes, it did get packed even on a Friday afternoon around lunchtime. However I wouldn't wait for a table especially when there are plenty of other restaurants in the shopping center. Nope I will not return. My review unfortunately won't highlight any of the good dishes that they offer because it was overcome by the terrible service. We had a baby at our table and the waitresses kept putting extremely hot dishes and plates directly in front of the baby. They also rush you out your table by taking every single empty plate off the table as soon as you are done eating from it. I mean the literal second you take the last piece of food off a plate, they will rudely reach over you and take the plate. And when you're finishing up your last bite, they will push their bus cart next to your table to clean your table before you even received the check. The entire experience felt like eating with a stop watch in your face. I hope the staff can improve their hospitality. read more

How to Lose Loyal Customers in Five Minutes I would give zero stars for customer service if that were an option. When it came time for a family celebration, I asked my kids where they wanted to eat. Without missing a beat, they all said Din Ding Dumpling House. That's how much we enjoy this place. To be fair, the food absolutely lives up to its reputation--every dish we ordered was delicious and packed with flavor. Unfortunately, what happened at the end of our meal completely overshadowed an otherwise wonderful dining experience. When we finished dinner, I informed the hostess that I would be paying with Apple Pay. She acknowledged me and pointed me toward the cashier station, which was only a few steps away from our table. I watched her walk over to the cashier, say something, and point in my direction. I then moved to the cashier booth and waited for my check so I could settle the bill. A few minutes later, while I was still standing there waiting, my family started heading toward the exit. Suddenly, the cashier and several servers rushed toward the door to stop them. At that moment, I was still standing at the cashier station, waiting to pay, wondering why it was taking so long to process my bill. Then it hit me--they thought my family was trying to dine and dash. The irony is that the cashier was the same person who had verified our order earlier in the evening before handing it off to the server. I was standing right there in a bright blue shirt, directly in front of the cashier station, waiting to pay. I wasn't hiding in a corner or walking out the door. It would have been difficult to miss me. What made the situation worse was the explanation afterward. I was told, "Sorry, we thought you were here to pick up food." That excuse made very little sense. Your hostess specifically directed me to the cashier because your restaurant doesn't bring a payment terminal to the table, as many restaurants do today. I followed the exact instructions given by your staff, only to have my family publicly treated as if they were attempting to leave without paying. Even after the misunderstanding was cleared up, there was little acknowledgment of how embarrassing and upsetting the situation was. A sincere apology and some accountability would have gone a long way. Instead, the interaction felt dismissive, and the manager showed little concern for the discomfort caused to my family. It's especially disappointing because this has been one of our favorite restaurants. We came in to celebrate a special occasion and left feeling accused, embarrassed, and disrespected. As much as we enjoy the food, this experience has completely changed how we feel about the Union City location. Great food can bring customers in, but respectful treatment is what keeps them coming back. Sadly, after this experience, we won't be returning. read more

This restaurant is located in a plaza and they share the parking lot with Daiso, Marina Supermaket, and other businesses. We were greeted and seated right away upon entering the restaurant. There was a paper menu and a pencil on the table to mark our order. We ordered the Seaweed Bean Curd, Pork Xiao Long Bao, Zhajiang Noodles, Seafood Scallop Fried Rice, Combination Chow Mein, and Vegetable Dumplings. The food came out pretty fast. As I was getting my spoon to eat the Xiao Long Bao, I realized there was some dried up food from a previous customer on it. I got kinda grossed out. The Seaweed Bean Curd wasn't very vinegary. The sauce for the Zhajiang Noodles were flavorful. Xiao Long Baos had thin skin and kinda soupy, which we enjoyed. We liked the tobiko in the Seafood Scallop Fried Rice. The Combination Chow Mein was greasy, which was expected. The Vegi Dumplings were kinda on the bland side. After dining here, we were very thirsty and had dried mouth for the rest of the day. Guys I need help. I keep giving my paychecks to Din Ding Dumpling. Their fried rice is straight crack. It will literally make you into a fried rice degenerate. The ambience is great since you could either bring friends or family and they have tables to accommodate either or. Literally anything you try will be bomb, especially the dumplings. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in east bay. They have a large variety of options and almost everything is good. Also, price range, it's not bad for the bay. Even though the wait may be long to get a table, they are very efficient at what they do and get the food to you quickly. The quality has changed over time, maybe in a not so great way, but I would prefer this over many other Chinese restaurants in the area. Soup dumplings here I also prefer since it's tasty, filled with soup, and doesn't break. Can't say the same for other places. There's also a good amount of parking. The main thing is to make sure to go earlier since there can be a long wait. The place is clean and spacious. read more

Stopped by Ding Ding Dumpling and overall had a solid experience. The two standout items for me were definitely the soup dumplings and the spicy wontons. The soup dumplings were the highlight. Thin skin, juicy filling, and a good amount of soup inside. Flavor was clean and satisfying, especially with a bit of ginger and vinegar. Easily the must-order here. The spicy wontons were also very good. The chili oil had a nice balance of heat and savoriness without being overpowering, and the wontons themselves were tender and well-filled. Service was fairly quick, and the place has a casual, no-frills vibe. More about the food than the ambiance. Came here just around 2:30ish on a Sunday and shocked with how crowded it was. There were 4 groups ahead of us, but got seated within 15 mins and once we did, food came FAST! Loved the complimentary cabbage/cucumber/peanut small plate. Fried green beans with pork came out first- on my first bite I thought they were just ok, BUT THEN, as I ate more (WITH the pork), it grew on me/spice kicked up and became SOO addicting. Next came the Mongolian beef- REALLY good flavor. I will say, some of the pieces were quite fatty (I prefer leaner beef, but my boyfriend loved the entire dish). We then got pork and crab XLB. Might have been a bad day for me bc I'm usually VERY dexterous when it comes to chopsticks (literally been using since BEFORE a soon and fork) but bottom wrapper broke on 3 of my XLB. That said- TONS of soup and VERY flavorful. I don't think I tasted the crab much (which is fine) but I saw it so I know it was there. We also got potstickers with the crispy lace skirt. I will say this was the least flavorful dish. Would prob skip, but EVERYONE was ordering this. And last we got the chocolate strawberry XLB. It was VERY RICH and decadent. 0 STAR!!! Finding a foreign object embedded inside a noodle is bad enough. Having the owner dismiss it as something "normal" made the experience even worse!!! I visited this noodle restaurant today and ordered the Braised Beef Brisket Noodle. While eating, I found a very disgusting foreign object embedded inside the noodle itself. It was not floating in the soup--it appeared to have been mixed into the dough during the noodle-making process. I brought it to the owner's attention, expecting at least an apology. Instead, the response was even more disappointing than the contamination itself. The owner casually said, "It's just a hair in the noodle. These things happen all the time and are unavoidable. Just pull that noodle out." He then offered a 50% discount on the bowl. What bothered me most was not only the hygiene issue, but the complete lack of concern for food safety and customer experience. There was no sincere apology, no acknowledgment of the seriousness of the problem, and the discount was presented as though it were a generous concession. Finding a foreign object embedded inside food is unacceptable. More concerning is an attitude that treats such incidents as normal and unavoidable. If this is the restaurant's standard for food quality control, I have ZERO confidence in its hygiene practices. Very disappointing experience. I will not be returning. read more

Friends and I came for lunch when the restaurant open. Within 30 mins, it was a full house. We ordered a few items to share. Must have is their soup dumplings. Pork and crab soup dumplings were delicious. Thin layer of skin wrapper filled with ground pork and crab meat. It was moist and juicy filled with soup. Tofu noodles salad was light and refreshing. It came with thin strips of cucumbers, carrots and cilantros. Def order this dish again. Stir fried green beans had a good crunch and it was really good. Thin Sliced braised beef and tendon. It has a nice texture and full of flavors. A bit spicy kick to it. Good appetizer to start with. Seafood noodles soup was not a hit for us. This is our least fave. Don't think it's worth the price. This a is a very popular spot and you can't be seated on a weekend right away unless you come here early. Plenty of boba shops and shopping in the area to entertain the family while you wait. It isn't a big place so I recommend a reservation especially for larger parties. Service was pretty quick and wow the food was great!
