So happy that Chef Jae opened her own restaurant off the Strip and that it is more accessible to Vegas locals. Restaurant is spacious, warm and inviting. The prices are similar to what you would get on the Strip but the quality and service is matched. Came here during soft opening and tried the Precious Platter, a few rolls and the Crispy Rice. Definitely enjoyed the freshness of the sashimi and the overall presentation of the dishes. The cute lights at each table provided a soft light which is great for taking pictures. What a terrible experience. I had ordered advance for delivery to plan for mother day. Wanted to send my mother something nice since i dont live locally. I was notified of cancelation of my ordered 10mins before it was to be delivered on the day of mother's day. No explanation, call of notice, just an email and sudden scramble on the holiday to find a replacement. __ Edit* I emailed them as requested and weve been talking about what could have happened. Ill be attending the restaurant once more in the future at the request of the staff to make up for this mishap. They've stated the delivery service never notified them of the order. Walked in, and there was a couple in the waiting area. The restaurant was about half empty, so we thought there would be no issues getting seated. An employee came up and asked us if we were walk-ins, and we said yes, but that we were separate parties. She said that they weren't taking walk-ins. We all looked at each other, confused, and I asked why, since the restaurant was half empty. The employee said it was because they didn't want us to have a bad experience and have to wait too long for food. I asked if they were understaffed, and she said yes, it's been a challenge getting good people to staff the restaurant. She said she'd go talk to the chef about seating us, and then she left. She came back a couple minutes later, and then sat the couple in front of me. Then she came back and asked if I was going to order any appetizers. I told her that this was my first time at the restaurant, and that I would need to look at the menu before knowing what I was going to order. I asked if I had to decide what to order before I sat down, and she said no, but that she didn't want me to have a bad experience. I told her again that I had not seen the menu, so that I had no way of knowing what I would order or not. She then said she'd go talk to the chef again. She left, and then came back again, and then seated me. Phew! Finally got seated. Looked through the menu, and then ordered. Cucumber salad was recommended, so I ordered that, and I like beets, so I ordered the charred beets tartare as well. Then I ordered the jewelry box (which is just an order of chef's choice of nigiri sushi) and I also ordered the scallop & salmon roll. With the ordering out of the way, I took a look around the restaurant. Nicely decorated, had a nice ambiance, and the three sushi chefs at the counter were hard at work. The cucumber salad came, and it was... ok. The menu description said, "yuzu, wakame" underneath "Cucumber Salad". There were maybe 4 pieces of wakame and I couldn't really taste the yuzu. It wasn't bad, but it didn't really live up to the menu description and the $9 price. Then the sushi roll came. This was a good roll. The touch of wasabi and habanero salsa on top of each piece was a nice complement to the salmon and scallops. $24 seemed a little bit expensive for it, but it was good. Then the beet appetizer came. It had a really nice presentation with the beets in a bowl, and then fried seaweed strips in another. The menu description underneath "Charred Beets Tartare" was "pear, honey, garlic créme, micro green". Based on that description, I was expecting an appetizer that is sweet with a touch of garlicky goodness. I was told to mix the beets with the other ingredients and to scoop it on to the seaweed. The seaweed strips were too narrow to hold any of the beets, so it was easier and less awkward to take a bite of the beets, then the seaweed strip. But what changed the trajectory of my opinion was that there was sesame oil and pickled wasabi in there as well. While the flavor wasn't bad, sesame oil and pickled wasabi completely changed the flavor of the dish, in an unexpected, and not good, way. It was just... kind of odd, for me, anyways. I couldn't taste the honey or the pear at all. And not even any garlicky flavors either. It was hints of beet with sesame oil and pickled wasabi. This was $19. Then the jewelry box arrived. It was about 8 (maybe 9?) pieces of nigiri sushi, 8-piece tuna maki roll, and a piece of castella (Japanese sponge cake). I wished it was a negi toro maki roll instead of just tuna, especially for the $70 price. The sushi was good quality, with good flavor. I just don't know if it matched the $70 price. So after tip and tax, my total came out to about $160. I think everything is about 20-30% too expensive. It's like paying the 'Strip tax' without actually being on the Strip. read more
