Hands Down! The best tasting Grouper sandwich ever. I had it prepared fried. The batter was very light. The fish was cooked perfectly without a greasy taste. It is priced at market price and comes alone. I remember eating here the first time over 10 years ago. The greatness of the food hasn't changed yet over the years. It feels awesome to have your taste buds salivating for the fish and for your expectations to be exceeded. The Onion rings are battered homemade. Very delicious. The small order was enough for 3-4 people. The conche fritters were good too. My wife had the Burger that also tasted good too. This is a must visit. Decor reminds you of an old beach bar restaurant. You know it's great when you see locals throughout the bar. There is a small patio to eat at too. The service was excellent. Stopped in for dinner on a Monday night. Our group of four was seated on the patio after about 5-10 minutes. Drink prices were very affordable ($4.25 for a pint of local craft beer). Appetizers were out quick and were good (conch fritters and gator bites). Grouper dinners and grouper salads were out shortly after we had finished the apps. Portions were generous. We finished the meal with the Key Lime Pie, which uses an Oreo crust as opposed to the traditional graham cracker crust. Prices were average for a FL beach shack restaurant. The grouper I had was excellent. I would recommend it without the sandwich and also not batter fried. It took too much flavor away from the fish itself. Crab cakes were burnt to toast. We came to Dave's on our friend's recommendation . We were not disappointed. My husband and I shared a clam basket, the breading was delicate and not overdone, the clams sweet and tasty, not chewy or rubbery like fried clams can be sometimes. We also had a cup of the seafood gumbo, full of pieces of grouper, shrimp and scallops. Everything was great. We need to return for their grouper and onion rings. I went with the classic fried grouper sandwich and my fiancée had the blackened grouper pasta. While I think Dave's has slipped a little over the years, I'll round up and give the food four stars. The sandwich was very good and the blackened grouper was good, but had a little bit of overkill with the blackening. It's a little pricey now, but good overall. read more

I was excited to come back after having had a wonderful meal here last season. What a let down.. .. I ordered the shrimp and scallop linguine as I had last time. Regrettably the shrimp and scallops had a very fishy taste and the linguine was like mush. I think it must have been prepared ahead of time as it came out way before we were done with the first course. The seafood gumbo was pink which was very off putting. First off order was correctly made and was ready in time frame they said (phone order). Adults ordered variations of the pasta. The pasta itself was on the blander side. The grouper and shrimp were good. The chicken while seasoned well was mighty chewy. Gator bites were good could have used slightly more frying. I have eaten at Dockside Daves several times. Each time I tell myself I'll never go back because the entire family and myself sit on the toilet for hours after. Do not order anything fried! (Everything tastes fried there) Today I was standing at the bus stop next to the patio and watched one the waitresses yell at a man with his kids crossing the street. She was extremely rude, especially in front of this man's small children. I've never seen such disrespect and vulgarities. This was the final straw; my family, my friends, my coworkers, my neighbors, and myself will steer clear of this restaurant. Wow! GREAT GROUPER SANDWICH!!!! Great size and great flavor. Came here for lunch with my dad. We both enjoyed ourselves a lot! The staff was very friendly and funny. Lots of locals and good interaction. I will certainly be back and my dad has already come back to try the Red Snapper, which he says is not always offered but is a MUST when it is. I've been eating grouper in the Clearwater Beach area for many years and this is the BEST grouper sandwich I have had, it is a huge half pound portion that can be prepared 7 different ways, I had the blackened which was spicy and delicious, I also got the waffles fries which I loved!! My mom had hers batter fried and said hers was very good and their onion rings are huge! My dad had the grouper dinner blackened and raved about it!! I wanted a Grouper sandwich and Dave's is my go to. I haven't been in years since I moved from the area but I never forgot the awesomeness of this place. I had a fried Grouper sandwich with onion rings. First time at this location and I was a little disappointed in the decor and ambiance. The waitress looks sketchy and was a little annoying with her constant picking up of our straw wrappers and plates. She literally dashed over to our table when we took the last bite to grab our plates. The place wasn't busy so I didn't get her haste. I do wish they could church up the inside a little bit. My daughter and I wanted something low key and casual. This is the place exactly for that. We literally came from the beach and sat at a table on the porch. We started off with huge peel-n-eat shrimp, cold. The shrimp were not as chilled as I like them, but the light seasoning and tangy cocktail sauce made up for it. Then we shared a grill chicken breast that was lightly blackened. The chicken was cooked perfectly, very juicy. My daughter picked waffle fries as one of the two side choices and I picked the vegetable medley. The vegetables were steamed and tasty. Finally, the best part, key lime pie. Simply excellent.
