I'm not much of a doughnut person and BF loves his apple fritters so this place satisfies all. And when you roll in here early on a Saturday morning, no shower, no makeup and barely awake there they are. All smiles and a hearty "Good Morning"! The ham and cheese croissants are big enough to split with someone. The doughnut holes are a sweet surprise :-) Apple fritters are kinda small in comparison. Fresh donuts every morning. They open super early if you need to grab a dozen or two on your way to work. Friendly and prompt service. They always through a few donut holes into your order, which is a nice treat. My only complaint is my favorite Pink Crueler donut always has frosting that seems like it's a day old, the rest of the donuts and eclairs and bear claws are fresh and delicious. Regular donuts are under $1, including tax. Last week, I bought a cinnamon roll and #1, it was like twice the size of a normal donut, and #2 it was only $1.35. I only brought in $1.25 (I was being lazy and didn't grab my purse), and the woman told me it was ok. I still ran back in with another quarter, but I thought that was so nice. Plus, I found 2 donut holes in my bag! This place has a lot of regulars- in the way, "Walk in, don't say anything, and your order is already ready for you." This is definitely my preferred go-to donut place on my way to work (unless I'm running late and then have to go to the donut place off the toll road). read more

So, I have had a breakfast croissant (ham, warmed) and that came with two glazed donut holes. They were very good. The croissant was buttery and filling. My husband and I split it. If you don't like butter, do not get it, but if you are like the rest of us and have a hidden passion for it that you hide a majority of the time, I suggest you get a croissant... Another guest in the place said the blueberry donuts were to die for, so I am going back to try one. That will be my donut intake for the year :) read more

Now, Donut star is one of the good Chinese food here in Santa Ana. As a Taiwanese who works on Santa Ana, I often crave for authentic Chinese food. I enjoy coming to this place because their food is fresh and they have the lunch special. $7.75 for 2 item combs and a drink. I usually get chow mein with white rice along with mushroom chicken and broccoli beef. They give an adequate amount too! I have yet to try their donut and bakeries, but I will try it in the future. and yes this place is more authentic than panda express. read more

I stopped in on a whim this morning on one of my rare early-start days and picked up a Boston Cream and a regular chocolate glazed donut. To my pleasant surprise, when I got home I noticed that the lady had thrown in a few glazed donut holes, too! I loved the chocolate glaze on the Boston Cream. I think it's one of the best I've had. This morning I spoke to the owners of Donut Star and as expected the guy was extremely apologetic and humble about the whole thing. Apparently the workers I dealt with were his daughters and as a parent myself I told him I empathize. There is still no excuse for having week old milk for sale and I suffered with cramps and diarrhea yesterday but people make mistakes and hopefully they have learned a lesson. Ok this is for Marlon saying this is a long review so i am going to add to it i hope this gets me a ROTD ok here we go. I woke up late so I had to hurry up and got ready for work and I didn't not have time to make anything at home. So i hopped in the car and started driving towards the 5 freeway. Its 6:45 am i was rushing down the freeway and thinking man i am kind of hungry so i was thinking to my self how about a bagel then before i know it i pass the exit for it damn stupid people wouldn't let me over so i finally got off the freeway it was 7:10 I was thinking a chicken biscuit sound great right now but i need to get to work. So i got to work and turned the computer on and got some coffee and pulled up yelp and started reading some reviews which made me really hungry so i ask my friend in front of me want a apple fritter he said hell yea so i get up and hop in the car and drive down the street to the donut star i walk in and the apple fritters were staring at me i said i would like 2 of those please. they were a 1.20 each and she threw some donut holes in there sweet. So i drive back to work and refill my coffee and sit down and take the frisbee looking apple fritter out of the bag i took my first bite and i was in heaven before i took the 2 bite i gave it a little kiss and said i love you and finished that bad boy off and washed it down with my coffee. I sat back in my chair and said that was so good i need to yelp that and so i did. One of the best apple fritters i have had are from this place. I have been to this place the last couple times to get donuts. As far as i know it is the only place around that is good. read more

This place is a a super star donut place! I was asked to cater for my office on a Friday morning last minute so I googled a place near me and found this GEM! Mora answered when I called and was so kind and helpful fully capable of having this large order ready for me on short notice. She made my ordering an easy process! I drove to the location to pick up my order and was surprised with a discount, free donut holes, and an iced coffee just for me. The quality of the breakfast is awesome too! I hardly ever eat donuts, except for the rare krispy kreme glazed. These donuts don't come close to those of course, but they are pretty good. I was in the area and stopped in to get a glazed old-fashioned, my favor tie kind. I was on my way to work and the donut didn't make it there, even though I told myself I should wait till I had some coffee to go with it. Once I tore off one piece of the outer edge, I couldn't stop. It was super sweet, but fresh. The bottom was a little on the soggy side. It was a rough day, so that one donut turned out to the be the highlight. I used to think this was an independently owned donut shop, until I saw another one in Fullerton. I felt betrayed, backstabbed, foolishly naive. I thought donut star and I were something! I thought I was it's first and it was mine, but that isn't the case =[ Aside from it being a chain, this place really stands out in the way they treat you when you enter. Since I work close to it I frequent it and eventually the small Asian lady-we'll call her Ying Sun just because she comes off that way-had my order memorized and would start pouring my Med sized coffee while I was waiting in line, cutest thing ever...I'm smitten! I started small, just ordering donut holes and the ocassional donut (My sweet tooth never fully developed). I eventually matured and started ordering their croissants, both plain, as well as the sausage and egg. This meal far surpasses any item from any fast food breakfast menu. Croissants are fluffy on the inside, but still crunchy on the outside, and the sausage and egg just like dad made them...if dad was ever around..........*sigh* Ying Sun still remembers my order even though I don't come as often, and she always throws in 2-3 donut holes. The price seems fair too, $3-4 for a warm breakfast amidst Tustin snow(great memoir title). And the best part of this place: The way she thanks you when she gives you your food, I will try to spell it how it sounds so do your best, "Zjank Chu" Everytime I hear it my eyes open up like a Pikachu in LOOOOVE!
