Solid 3.5 I'm not a huge tteokbokki person but I really enjoyed the build your own. This is a carb heavy meal!! (noodles on noodles) but you can experiment on choices and ingredients you can't find normally at the market or other establishments. Shared the regular size for 2 people. Portion would be perfect for a group of 3 though. The biggest con is the menu and options is pretty overwhelming that we made the mistake of getting the original sauce thinking it was mild (also what was recommended for mild) as shown 3/5 spice level. It was soooo spicy (and I can handle spicy). I would say closer to level 4/5 spice. We didn't even see the rose sauce on the bottom. ( I would recommend putting the sauce in order of spice level since we totally overlooked there was a lesser spice option). Let's say it was so spicy we couldn't even finish it in one sitting or as leftovers. Also tried the original boneless fried chicken due to the grand opening special. Came around 12pm and there was no wait, which was really nice. The atmosphere wasn't too loud, so it was perfect for actually being able to talk and enjoy the meal. However, the noodles got soggy fast since it was over an open fire, had some mixed feelings about that. Their chicken wings were super crispy and fresh, and their cheese fries were good as well. I wasn't the biggest fan of their service and how the whole ordering/seating process worked though. I thought it was a bit inefficient to make us pay at the end of our meal instead of paying right at the counter when ordering there already. I personally do not like boneless chicken, but I gotta say... these boneless thighs were scrumptious! My BYO was not what I ordered. They mixed up my togo with another customer's order. I recommend it for people that enjoy a less spicy version. We got all of the veggies and protein options. Be sure to get the sausage, it's snappy and adds great texture. Please upgrade your chopsticks!! They're so cheap and weak that we just started using the forks. Anyways, service was good despite's seeming to be understaffed. One woman was collecting payments, bringing leftover boxes, and being the hostess. So took a wait to get the check once we were done. For the food, the taste was really good and I loved the options they had for the ttebokki. The pour cheese at $3 seems like a steep price to me, would suggest $2 instead since it doesn't cover the whole bowl. My partner and I did have some complaints about the portioning of the BYOB. Not enough vegetables were added when we asked for them, but they were sure to add an overwhelming amount of fish cakes. Also, I would have wanted more cheese filled rice cakes rather than a 90/10 ratio of plain/cheese rice cakes. Affordable and plenty of food for 3 people though, which is why I still give 4 stars. I do want to note that in Korea, this restaurant chain is a buffet, but the one opening in Fullerton is going to be a build your own style, not a buffet. I got the build your own tteokbokki to add my favorite toppings including rice cake, cheese rice cake, corn cheese rice cake, beef belly, enoki mushrooms, noodles, and so much more. I loved the fact that I was able to choose my own toppings while leaving out what I didn't want. I was surprised to find how similar the flavors of the sauce and ingredients were with the restaurant in Korea because there are so many other Korean restaurants that come to the US with dishes that are simply not as good. The Dookki Original sauce is really not spicy at all, less spicy than the Korean Shin Ramyun. I think I would go for the Dookki BEST sauce next time. I was also surprised at how much I liked the sides, especially the butter garlic fries. I love the hefty amount of sauce that they put on top of the fries, and for only $3.99 it's definitely a great deal. The Korean Fried Chicken was delicious as well, with the Snowing Cheese flavor being my favorite. Service: All of the staff members were nice and friendly. For the sake of explanation, consider the way Mongolian grills work? It's like that. It was very good, but if you are used to spicy Korean, consider picking a different combination of sauces and then add some white sauce. Rose is spicy level 1 of 5 and that is accurate! We got it, because I'm not too into spicy and even I was like...a little more would have been fine . The Korean fried chicken was delicious and rediculously crispy. Pretty perfect, to be honest. The fries were also delicious and then sauce was great! A little sour, from the garlic, just flavor heads up. Not bad though, we will absolutely get them again. The portions are big and the prices are a little high for a single eater, unless you plan for leftovers (large servings), so it is best enjoyed in groups of 2-4 people. If you like leftovers, I say go for it alone, though!!!! We (2) spent $50, left stuffed and have 2-3 more servings left. We went to the grand opening and were first in line! Really fun experience and yummy food. Love the build your own aspect of the tteok-bokki from the rice cakes and noodles, veggies and protein, all the way to the sauce! You can even add pouring cheese, which I very happily added. We got the rosé sauce and it was pleasantly mild, but I'm looking forward to trying a spicier sauce next time. They bring the food to the table and it's kept warm on a small burner and they made a mouth watering show of pouring the cheese themselves in front of us. The Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) was delicious!!! We got the soy garlic and honestly can't wait to try the other flavors (especially the snow cheese, yum!) How do they have a waitlist even before they open?? Only had 5-6 tables with customers and lots of empty tables but they said they had 14 pastries waiting. No one was there waiting outside. The staff were super friendly and nice. We got the rose tteokbokki and it was not that good. We couldn't taste very much. The amount of sauce needs to be adjusted. It wasn't spicy and just tasted like artificial Korean corn soup. I like the one at BBQ Chicken better. But love the fact that you can choose the type of rice cake and ingredients that go in it. We also got the original crispy boneless fried chicken and honey brown chicken wings. Those were delicious and most. The honey brown chicken overpowered the tteokbokki.
