Tons of staff standing around doing nothing, while I have to counter order, carry my own food and drink to a dirty table, and yet they want tips when you pay. And whatever you do, don't disturb the bartender...he is so high I'm embarrassed for him. The ONLY reason why this place is making any money is because they serve alcohol and food right on the boardwalk and let in all ages. Notice all the positive reviews are from people who got hammered at the bar. Unless you're on the beach + desperate + don't want to lose your parking place skip it. Fun spot with pretty beachside views and a lively atmosphere! Visited Dory Deli on a Saturday morning after participating in the Earth Day beach cleanup they hosted. The restaurant itself was crowded (in a good way) yet efficient. We were able to order at the counter pretty quickly and find a high top table even faster. We ordered a Boardwalk burrito (breakfast burrito with eggs, bacon, cheese, potatoes, and avocado) and a customized their everything bagel by adding an egg and avocado. Their menu items are very reasonably priced especially considering the location; I've noticed other businesses hike up their prices due to their ocean front location. Our food was brought to our table pretty quickly and tasted great! The bagel and burrito both were loaded and hearty. I came with my mom and while she was ordering the melt she asked what the greens on the sandwich were (because she doesn't like arugula) and the boy at the counter assured us it was just regular lettuce. When we got the sandwich, it was not lettuce it was a mixture of leafy greens including arugula. She also payed extra to order a tomato which was not ripe and her sandwich was over toasted. I ordered the patty melt which was the most flavorless sandwich I've ever had. I kept adding salt to try and add flavor and no matter how much I added it didn't help. We also asked how big the fries were because we were planning to share one and the kid told us it was a great size for sharing, but when we got them they were pretty small. My Dr. Pepper also had an off taste and her iced tea was flavorless. They were very polite and fast to get the food out, but it was overpriced for all around not great food. read more

One of the best restaurants perfectly located in the hip and oceanfront area of Newport Beach. A weekend chill vibe is the quick impression I have when we walked into the place. A typical American diner with casual staff politeness greeted us. We came in on a Saturday and the place is packed and busy. No need for reservation. The grilled chicken sandwich and the Angus beef quick melt were divine. It took longer than usual for our order to arrive but it's understandable as it was the weekend. This is a great place to eat and mingle at the same time. Public parking is readily available with lots of options to walk around the shore, side shops and bike along the side streets. It had a really casual and laid back ambiance. Perfect for post party munchies. : This was really good! The avocado was deep fried so well and had awesome structural integrity. They chose an avocado with the perfect amount of ripe. The sauce and the garnishes on top were really good, but I wish they put more on it since avocados aren't that flavorful. 7.5/10 cauliflower: this was packed with flavor and the cauliflower was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. The food here was pretty solid, but it gave me food poisoning, so it's not like I can sing this place's praises all that much. Dory Deli is a cute little beach joint with food to match. My group was pretty pleased with everything we tried - the fish and chips were tasty, the burgers were tasty, the fries were nice, etc. The problem is, the poke bowl absolutely destroyed my digestive system and wrecked my night (and most of the morning...) with food poisoning. We happened upon Dory Deli yesterday while visiting the area and decided to give it a try. We ordered the poke nachos and a smash burger with fries. When the food arrived I grabbed the ketchup bottle sitting on the table and when I opened the lid it exploded all over me! It was in my hair, in my eye, all over my shirt, and on the booth! I have NEVER had that happen!!! I was SHOCKED and sat there stunned for a moment. The staff was slow to react. They offered to get me a "rag" as I jumped up and ran to the restroom to wash my eye out, as it was burning terribly! I had to jump in front of a man that was about to walk in to use the restroom and begged him to let me just use the sink quickly. When I looked in the mirror, it was all over my face, up my forehead and into my hair! It stained my hair red! When I returned to the table, there was a dirty looking rag given to me and that was literally ALL THEY DID! They told me this happens ALL THE TIME AND I WAS THE THIRD ONE IT HAPPENED TO TODAY! WHAT???? Why? That's insane! Why is there not some type of warning? Or a different option? Clearly these bottles need to be replaced! I was not apologized to. I was not offered any compensation! I hadn't even taken one bite of my now cold food! Which by the way, was ok but not great! No lettuce , tomato or pickles on that burger. Just meat and cheese and a lot of bun! I realize the people working there are very young but there needs to be some type of customer service. I was out of town and had to go buy a new shirt because I was stained and smelled like ketchup! Small pleasures like chewable crushed ice for the fountain drinks are a plus. Nice bar too for a small restaurant. We live locally & finally ate here, we'll definitely be back! I didn't like that their menus say that breakfast is served until 11am when it's actually until 1130.. I'd much rather have a lunch menu item over breakfast. The boneless, fried, chicken tender over the thin waffle with the maple syrup was really good and disappeared pretty fast. Great location in Balboa, there's really steps to the sand. The food is very good and a lot of unusual choices, which makes their menu very interesting. My friend had the Rocky Balboa sandwich which he enjoyed Nestlé. Definitely a very elevated cheese steak type of sandwich. Meat was super tender. I had the chicken and waffles. It was very good. The Belgian waffle was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside topped with their buttermilk fried chicken, finished with a spicy, maple, bacon syrup.
