I was visiting my uncle in Gold Beach and he suggested Double D's Cafe for breakfast. From the outside it looked small but when I walked in the door I could see it wasn't. Plenty of room for our party of 10 after rearranging the tables. It was a bright morning and the room was full of light and airy. Very welcoming with humorous and patriotic decor. My spouse and I travelled up and down the coast for years before moving to Gold Beach, OR. Now, living here nearly two years Double D's has become our favorite cafe in Gold Beach and surrounding area. This is a "classic" cafe with friendly staff and great food (and lots of it). One day as I attempted to pay for my meal the owner told me "you meal has been covered" because Double D's does a "pay it forward" where customers pay for other customers meal (voluntarily and with no pressure) if they want to do so. They are great people, good food and classic Americana vibe. I highly recommend this cafe and hope you will enjoy it as much as I do. Places like this are growing rare. Just an old fashioned diner. Ordered breakfast, which was just ok. We ordered an extra piece of toast that we never received but they added $5.00 to our bill for one slice of bread. Waitress was curt but the rest of the staff seemed friendly. read more

Several recent trips through GB and I can happily say that I've found a solid breakfast spot. The interior is very comfy and I loved all the decor of the place. Felt like stepping into my grandmas kitchen... sorta. The chicken friend steak and eggs + side of biscuits and gravy that I ordered were all very good. I especially liked the CFS. I'm pretty picky about sausage gravy, but this place offers one of the best yet, for my taste. Only thing(s) I thought were lacking on this visit was the server. She seemed to have a bit of an attitude, or maybe I just read her all wrong. In either case.. she couldn't seem to put anything in front of me without basically throwing it across my table. I asked for home fries on the crispy side and instead got hashbrowns. No biggie right? Mistakes happen. Well that's what I thought until I heard her tell the table that showed up after me that they don't have home fries when he asked for them. The courtesy was all the way off. So was my tip. It's diner food. Vegans and gluten-free folks might consider somewhere else. There's fruit and salad on the menu, but otherwise it's typical American fare with not much modern dietary consciousness. The staff is super friendly and the coffee is warm. Plus there's a little thrift shop in the same complex so you can browse while you wait for a table. The joint looks clean and it's convenient when you're out at the beach or cruising down the coast. Nothing special, but it'll do in a pinch. I wish they served booze so I could get a mimosa! I am going keep this simple, and will stick with pros and cons. Pros ============== -Pretty standard cafe fare. Not great, but not bad either. -Reasonable prices. Cons ============== -We are in the middle of a pandemic, and the county is going close dine-in restaurants on Friday. Neither the manager or the cook were wearing masks. I get it. I hate them too. I did my years in the food industry and cannot even imagine being forced to do that with a mask. Heck, it is hard enough for me to wear one whilst teaching in a cool classroom. But your livihood literally depends on it. Wear a damned mask. That was a star by itself. Definitely for locals only. We walked in with guests from Quebec and were surprised at how rude the hostess was. Embarrassing. Numerous tables were empty, but it seems that non-locals must sit at one specific table near the entrance. No other table permitted. Really weird, even though we were friendly and polite. The attitude: You're not from here and you are not welcome. As their sign says, "Guns are welcome on premises." I like guns myself, but maybe we should have taken that bold statement as an indication of attitude. Maybe the locals should not be so supportive. So very disappointing...and sad. read more

Great place for breakfast. I was greeted by one of the staff and seated with coffee ordered within 2 minutes of entering The special was eggs Benedict the Sunday I went in. The coffee was hot and topped off frequently, good coffee. The potatoes were cooked properly and very good. All in all a great breakfast. read more

Nice clean restaurant with good coffee. Service was great! We were here About 7:3am and it was busy with one waitress but she rocked it! She kept my coffee cup full. Good omelet with home fries & toast. I personally would have preferred hash browns but they don't offer them, but still delicious. Great breakfast! This is a small clean cafe. They cook your food the way you want it cooked. They are all very friendly in there. They are open from 7am to 1pm. We have never had bad food there. If you like the Mom & Pop type atmosphere this is the place for you. read more

DOUBLE D's CAFE is on the main street in Gold Beach, Oregon. DOUBLE D's CAFE is a funkily friendly restaurant, with a familiar menu of home-style fixins. I recommend the coffee, and even the most fussy coffee-connoisseur will not be disappointed. The restaurant has books that the customer may read, while sitting at the dining table. The restaurant also has a number of amusing signs and posters, as can be seen in the photos posted by other YELP reviewers. I have posted a photograph taken from my seat at DOUBLE D's CAFE, and you can see the information-packed comments that are part of the laminated menu. I have only been in one restaurant that is as funkily friendly as DOUBLE D's CAFE, and this is Bucky's Cafe in Cambridge, Idaho. On YELP, you can see my photos of the interior of Bucky's Cafe, which show a bulletin board with hunting and fishing photographs taken by the many customers at Bucky's. (Unfortunately, after I posted my review of Double D's Café, what happened is that Bucky's closed.) Gold Beach is noted for its location near scenery of enhanced visual appeal, such as the sea stacks and arches, as visible at the various turn-outs along Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor. This includes the ever-so photogenic Secret Beach. Gold Beach is also noted for its view of romping whales, that can be seen from your motel balcony. I stayed at a hotel across the street from DOUBLE D's CAFE, and in the morning enjoyed watching the spouts of two whales, doing nothing except swimming from right to left and from left to right. A stop for some food and down time after traveling a bit. We were greeted and sat fairly quickly but the service overall was not positive. Found this gem in the wall as my sweetie and I were on our way home to Quincy, CA from Coos Bay, OR. Hungover and ready to gnaw each other's loving faces off, we pulled over to this place. Greeted immediately, arrived at the perfect time, 11, in between the early eaters and before the church crowd (that was a close call). The chicken fried steak, and chili omelet (which I admit at first was skeptical but then Immediately changed my mind after tasting my sweeties perfect hangover breakfast) we SO EFFING GOOD. We were also lucky to get the last of the home fries before it was announced "just served the last bit so don't order anymore!". Can I say how much I loved this woman? In my mind this was Double D and don't even THINK about fucking with her because she doesn't have time for that shit when she's running the busiest place! Takeout chicken fried steak in my room with an crab view was DELICIOUS on my most recent visit to Gold Beach. Could have been easier to get it either: they had the phone number clearly posted outside, asked them about a few of the top menu mentions on Yelp, and decided on steak. The woman said it'll be about 7 minutes til it's ready for pickup. I went in the door at 6 minutes and she had it well wrapped and waiting. Paid cash to cut the % to the credit card company. We've been coming to Double D's for many years and will continue to visit for the reliably tasty, affordable breakfast. Not fancy, but better than average. They're at their best if you eat meat, cheese, etc. but are also reasonably accommodating if you're vegetarian or have dairy sensitivities. They're generous with the veggies in the veggie omelette and it's very filling even if you get it without cheese. Pretty good salsa too. I like their hashbrowns because they're strip-cut and cooked crispy, and not salted to death. Plus the service is friendly and the food comes out quick. read more

Very disappointing lunch. Taco Salad was the worst excuse for a taco salad I've ever seen. Guacamole was consistency of blended baby food.
