This is the 2nd review for Doughbird. The food is always great and the service is top notch. We went at 5:30 & sat in the bar like we always do. The happy hour prices are not what keeps us going back but, a nice discount if you can time it right which never happens for us. We sat at the bar & ordered drinks/apps before 5:30. None of our items were discounted. It's false advertising if your website states it has happy hour daily from 3-6. Wow this place deserves more than 5 stars. Went in today after placing a to-go order and the restaurant was a bit busy for take-out. The cashier who I wish I would have took his name was tremendous - what a great example of excellent customer service. I had a gift card and when he went to swipe it, there was a $0 balance! I was sad because I took the wrong gift card with me. He was so calm and so nice. He rang my card up and I asked for extra ranch to be charged. He said oh no it's not a problem, then I asked him for the credit card sign form so I could tip and he was said it's fine your gift card didn't go through and enjoy your food. Such a kind gesture in the midst of a crazy evening for them. I really wish I had got his name. We most definitely will be back. The food was delicious and wings were 10/10. read more

Dough bird? Yeah at first I thought the concept was crazy but then I tired it. Then tried it again. And I must say this place is good ! The pizza is freshly tossed by hand tossed. The wing are a little different but delicious and full of flavors. The humus with the fresh pita has to be the best I've had. The chicken is marinated with love and cooked just right. They do it right! The staff is nice especially Monte at the bar. If you haven't tried this place you should. It's also a good place for large groups of friends and family. The concept is simple - great pizza AND chicken under one Sam Fox inspired roof. And, they nail it. I've dined at doughbird on several occasions and always leave satisfied with the food and experience. The hummus is very tasty and is quickly devoured if shared. I've enjoyed the Aviator pizza, which is basically a meatlover's, adorned with pepperoni, Italian sausage, and bacon. Alternatively, check out the creative Brussel Sprout pizza with sweet potato, and yes, can't forget the bacon. Each pizza creation is loaded with fresh tasting toppings and enough food to share between two people, while also splitting an appetizer. Then, there's the bird. Rotisserie free range chicken that is served halves or wholes. The meat is juicy and tasty, but it wasn't particularly unique. What really stood out was the selection of sauces - I tried the chipotle bbq and pineapple teriyaki. I thought both were terrific. I need to go back and check out the horseradish creme fraiche, maybe even on the prime rib. Ok, now you've got me hungry again! Finally, both the salads and desserts were surprisingly good. I would pair the delightful chicken and avocado salad with a meatier pizza for a nice balance. Then, finish it off with the "Elvis." It's a delicious blend of peanut butter, chocolate, banana, and yes, again, candied bacon. It's a dessert that will certainly leave you all shook up... Bottom line: Doughbird is a neat new addition to the Sam Fax restaurant lineup. Great food and ambience. We had our end of year holiday party at Doughbird and had such an amazing time! The manager Dehlia and her team were so accommodating and made us feel like family. I arrived early to wait for my party and was immediately greeted and welcomed with a smile. Each staff member that walked by was attentive and made sure I was being helped. Jason our server was kind, organized and even cracked a joke for the table which made us happy. A group our size can be challenging but everyone at Doughbird made sure we had a great experience. My team enjoyed the food, the environment, and we all left with a smile on our face. The cherry on top was Dehlia, the manager, coming over to the table and thanking us before we left. My husband and I came here for date night last week and had an INCREDIBLE meal! We live in the neighborhood so were waiting for the newness to wear off a tad {due to long wait times} before giving it a try and i'm so happy that we finally made it in. They also take reservations which is a major plus - I highly recommend doing so, even for a party of 2! They were packed on a Wednesday evening. To start, we ordered the Heirloom Tomato and Quinoa salad and it was one of my top 5 fav salads ever. I LOVED that it had two dressings - a feta yogurt dressing and a champagne vinaigrette. They went so well together! The salad had sweet heirloom tomatoes, quinoa, olives, pine nuts, and more goodies that were just so tasty. I would get this for a meal with chicken and be the happiest camper. For dinner, we split the heirloom tomato {apparently we have a thing for heirloom tomatoes} + artichoke pizza and added fennel sausage to it. It was also extremely delicious. I loved the chewy crust! We also split the half bird with cauliflower mash and the umami sauce, horseradish sauce, and jalapeno pesto. Oh man, 3 sauces may have been overkill but I absolutely loved every one of them. The horseradish sauce is SO good on the cauliflower mash. Of course we couldn't leave without dessert! We ordered the Elvis and practically licked the mason jar. I wasn't super fond of the bacon cookies though. That is just a personal preference. We will definitely be back. My only complaint is that prices are a bit high. I feel like the pizzas could be reduced by a few bucks to compete with surrounding pizzerias but that is just my two cents! Yet again, Sam Fox knocks it out of the park! read more

This is my go to dinner spot! The food is amazing and it is typically easy to get seated immediately during the week. I recommend making a reservation during the weekend. I have ordered the rotisserie chicken with a caesar salad. The shishito peppers and the truffled cheese bread appetizers are my go to as well. The butterscotch cake for desert is to die for if you have room, I highly recommend this. If I ever do take out for my family/friends we like to do the family on the fly which comes with a Whole Bird, Caesar Salad, Choice of Large Side (Broccoli, Mashed Potatoes, or Mac n Cheese), Choice of Large Sauce. The only reason I am giving 4 stars is because when I order take out and choose a time to pick it up, multiple times it is not ready when I had put on the order which is pretty frustrating. Sometimes the service can be a little slow but food comes out quickly which is nicel. Other than that, I love coming here often for a good dinner! read more

Fairly good option for enjoying a bit more upscale food in a nice setting with good service and nice presentation. I tried two items on my visit here. The aviator pizza which was filled with generous amounts of pepperoni, sausage, and bacon. The dough had a nice consistency to it though I would have preferred it to either be a little more crisp or a little softer. The light flavor of the tomato sauce and mozzarella worked well to balance the mix of meats in this dish. The prime rib dip was alright as well with charred onion, a fairly good portion of beef, fontina cheese and both au jus and a horseradish dip. It was a bit forgettable, though competently executed. But I've had better versions of this dish elsewhere (though it was presented nicely). The potato wedges were a bit light in flavor and cooked too soft for me, so I didn't get much texture contrast between the different elements of the dish. Overall, I did enjoy the visit and found the food to be prepared nicely. read more

This place is SO DAMN GOOD that we came here three (3) times in 2 days! Yes, it's worth it! I ordered the bbq chicken salad on my first visit, and let me tell you, the layers of flavor are unreal. You get a hint of spice from the chipotle bbq ranch sauce, sweetness from the homemade candied pecans, creamy avocado, and a bunch of herbs and such that balance out this dish for your palette. I am VERY picky, so I still enjoyed it without corn, cheese, tomato, and onion. My spouse ordered the simple Caesar salad with salmon. I tried some of his salad, and was very impressed with the Caesar dressing. He also ordered the Kentucky Old Fashioned cocktail, and was not only pleased with the taste, but the consistency and quality of each drink he had. That was important to him because he said most bars fail to provide that same quality and consistency when you order more than one drink. The fact that each drink was just as good as the first speaks volumes of the training and service at Dough Bird. The second time I came here, I got the rotisserie chicken with roasted squash & brussel sprouts. I enjoyed my dish again, but I was still craving the bbq chicken salad. So, my final night in town, I made sure that I ordered the bbq chicken salad to satisfy my cravings. Again, the layers of flavors and different textures were spot on! I was so excited about my experience here, that I had to tell the managers. I had the pleasure of meeting Alicia and Cullen, who were wonderful. I wanted to express how delicious our food was each time we visited, how great the service was, how friendly and hardworking their staff is. The list goes on, and on, but they got it figured out here. We also learned that they make all their ingredients in house. Everyone was working hard, including the managers! It appeared as if the culture was good and all the employees enjoyed being there. Personally, I appreciated the diversity of the staff that seemed level across the board. Seeing a mixture of minorities in management, service, and in the kitchen was a beautiful thing. It led me to the belief that there was a level playing field for all races, genders, and etc. in the company. I love that! I would love to see a Dough Bird in Costa Mesa, California. A simple restaurant with super good food! Everything we tried was above average or better. Even the croutons on the Caesar salad were exceptional! Roasted chicken comes with a sauce or two, we tried the chipotle barbecue and the umami. Umami was a little salty but tasty, barbecue sauce worked! And, we can't say enough about the perfectly-charred Brussels sprouts. Even if you don't like b sprouts, you'll love these! But the star of the show was the squash and eggplant casserole. New on their menu, it is super yummy and apparently a huge hit for them! Service was slightly slow, but very polite and competent. Not quiet dining but an open, friendly atmosphere. Came here twice and I have to say that it is such a lovely spot for lunch or dinner. What I like the most is probably the decor. Its spacious and well lit and has this nice but casual feel to it (if that makes any sense). Came here with one of my friend who is hmm a "picky eater" and she even really liked this place. The pizzas and the salads are delicious. The pizza size is great for one person who is hungry or enough to share with a salad or appetizer. My niece talked up Doughbird, I decided to treat her so we went. I was not impressed, it was typical scene and my enthusiasm level did not inch up through the one hour dinner. It's like any other typical restaurants of the era nothing special that "pops" I had the prime rib it was not bad, very juicy center with about a 1/4" or less of drier edge which I love. The steak was good and looked good, I ordered it with a Caesar salad. The salad could have used more dressing for my palate but asking for extra dressing would not mix well to get the flavor throughout evenly, plus a side of broccoli. (It's broccoli I don't have enough vocabulary to talk it up) The salt shaker is not a grinder FYI, the napkins are very nice. Music volume is a bit over powering I found myself getting closer to have a conversation, plus it makes others speak louder which increases the noise level further. Is it a great place to eat, not really, good yes. I'm not an easy person to impress giving away 4 and 5 stars without merit solely based on trendiness would not be fair. Giving high marks based on how modern a place is or their special spin on classics like pizza sometime is not needed which is confusing taste buds at best. My neice ordered the Brussels Sprout Pizza with sweet potato and bacon. It was okay. I don't know, maybe my taste buds are hillbillies and don't understand too good when it comes to high class toppings on pizza that are completely strange together or nowhere near complimentary. Without the power of the food, trendiness becomes cookie cutter, luster is easy to pull off. Hundreds of restaurants in town with limited budgets that sling some major taste bud pleasing food with the appeal of esthetics from the 1990's. Doughbird was an average experience, the plus is their a Chick-Fil-A and other restaurants across the street if they are busy and not able to seat you. This place is a MUST TRY! I am always underwhelmed by the service I receive here. But boy do they make up for it when the food comes. If this is your first time, go with a friend and share a pizza and the rotisserie chicken. The sauces and sides are all phenomenal, so pick whichever one you fancy- you won't be disappointed! My personal faves are the creamy horseradish and the jalapeño pesto. I always get the mashed cauliflower side, but the Mac and cheese is also delicious. All of the salads are good too! They specialize in the chicken and the pizza (hence the name) but they also have really good prime rib available at dinner. Lots of fun cocktails on the menu as well. I have never had any of the desserts, but it they are like the rest of the food on the menu I'm sure they're good. I do recommend making a reservation if you come for dinner. This restaurant is huge and good for groups of all sizes. One downside of this is that due to high ceilings, it was a bit loud at times. My favorite part of my meal might have been the Buffalo Chicken Wings that we started with. They were pretty much perfectly executed and really satisfying. My husband went with the Thai Chicken Curry and I got the Barbeque Chicken Pizza - both awesome and something we'd order again. We indulged in a dessert despite being pretty full and we're beyond impressed with the Almond Joy Trifle. The chocolate mousse was perfectly light and the toppings were perfect. I really like that their menu has something for everyone with healthy yet exciting salads, low carb rotisserie chicken, pizzas, or more formal entrees. While it wasn't the best meal of my life, it was really enjoyable "in the neighborhood" casual meal that makes it no question as to whether we will return! read more

Doughbird Restaurant serves mostly Rotisserie Free Range plump Chickens and Organic Pizzas. They also offer appetizers, salads, sandwiches, oven roasted fish, prime ribs and side orders. They offer a full bar and have indoor and outdoor seating. The decor looks similar to the decor our local Ikea Store sells...Looks sort of Farmhouse Swedish with Retro Touches to me. We started with the Truffle Cheese Stromboli.($12.00 +$1) It had a crusty crisp crust and was stuffed with oozing Truffle laced Italian Cheeses. It was molten yumminess. We added the tomato sauce for $1.00 more but it wasn't needed and took away from the truffle and cheese flavors. Also the sauce was served ice cold. It was like stepping out of a warm bed and jumping into a cold shower....I didn't think it went well together but the Stromboli was delicious on it's own. We went with the whole chicken because value wise it made sense. (at this time 1/2 was $17 and whole was $24.) Either the 1/2 or whole chicken comes with one side and one sauce so we added an extra sauce ($1. ) and one extra side ($5.) The Chicken is pretty darn good!.......but mine wasn't served not as warm as it should be. The chicken is very meaty and moist with just the right seasonings. A whole chicken is a lot of food here and could be enough for four people but you don't get enough sides for four people........ We tried the Jalapeño pesto and the Spicy Buffalo Sauce....Both sauces were good but the Buffalo was really Delicious and mustardy and maybe apple vinegar. It was just really good! Non-Traditional Quinoa Tabbouleh was made with these amazing tasting tomatoes....that were so sweet and fresh tasting. The Macaroni and Cheese is good and tasted like macaroni with melted American Cheese to me. Sort of like a childhood Grilled Cheese sandwich. I got a bunch of my order packed up and I saved room for dessert. Tried the Butterscotch Cream Cake. It was topped with Vanilla Gelato that was loaded with Vanilla Beans. A cake that reminded me of corn cake sat in a pool of butterscotch. It wasn't too sweet and was just right. It was delicious all together. Tried this for the first time. Service was excellent, food was excellent and to watch an open kitchen is quite a show. Sit at the bar and see what a fine tuned machine this is. Executive Chef Zach was amazing to watch. Christina was an amazing waitress. She recommended the perfect wine and desert. We will definitely return here when we visit our kids in college! We returned here again Aug. 2019, moving kids into college for the final semester. Service and food is still exceptional and it's amazing to watch the open kitchen. They have not compromised anything in the 2-3 years that they have been here. These are some of the hardest working people in the restaurant business. Keep up the exceptional service and food!
