    Good dim sum place. They can be busy, so you need patience or made reservations. They can make mistakes with your order when they are very busy, so you need to pay attention to what you ordered on paper and what they deliver to your table.

    I came here for my dad's birthday dinner last night and was blown away by the hospitality and service we received. We came in for dinner and were seated at a large table towards the back. For a Wednesday night, it wasn't busy at all. Right from the beginning Steven and Pamela took care of us. There were 7 of us dining and between all of us we got the lobster in cream sauce, fried shrimp (my fave!), Peking duck (close second fave!), and the mixed vegetable lettuce wraps. Yes, it was a lot of food. Yes, we left with plenty of leftovers. Yes, I had a pretty great lunch today kudos to yesterday's dinner. I've been to this restaurant before when it was under different management, and thankfully the only thing that has changed in the last few years is the restaurant name. Other than that, the food quality and service is the same. The lobster in cream sauce is the way to go. It's a little bit expensive (lobster is by weight, more expensive by the season), but hey, you're eating lobster), but it's a must try here. The fried squid is also some of the best I've tried at a Chinese restaurant - the spice is perfect. The peking duck is also a fan favorite, served on top of fried shrimp chips, with rice based crepe type wrap and hoisin sauce. Turn that into a mini wrap, and you're in foodie heaven. Throughout the night, Steven served us along with the assistance of Pamela, and both of them were superstars. At all times, Steven had a smile on his face and even sang happy birthday more enthusiastically than all of us. I was very impressed. Overall, the food and service were the cherry on top of a great birthday dinner and I know my dad had a fabulous time. Thank you, Dragon Group!

    Haven't been to this dimsum place for a long time! Just ordered some basic dishes of course. One special thing I noticed was that there were some dishes that combined three dishes into one like a BBq pork, chicken and egg yolk bun in one. This is great for one or two people eating together. There was a lot of pieces of meat in the rice rolls, but the rice rolls itself was a bit soft/soggy. The egg custard tarts were very fresh. I liked the fanciness of the truffle pork dumplings....something different...

    This place used to be the one of the most lit dim sum joints in Richmond, with lines out the door every weekend. However they seem to be under new ownership or something, and it seems like everything has changed, especially their prices! Me and my family decided to come back here for dim sum, and the first thing we noticed was that the restaurant was not packed like it once was - not a good sign. Once we saw the menu, we could kinda guess why it dropped off in popularity, as the prices have increased quite a bit. However, the quality has improved a bit, with everything tasting really nice and fresh. My favourites were definitely the shiu-mai with truffle, as it had a really unique and delicious flavour. The egg tarts were also great, fresh out the oven and super silky. Everything else was fine, not really amazing or anything. If your looking for good quality dim sum I would recommend this place, but I'm sure there are other places with better value for price elsewhere.

    Family was in Richmond visiting the temple, so we thought to have lunch in the area before leaving! Saw this new place have their "Grand Opening" sign up, so we decided to give it a try, it used to be the location of South Ocean. There wasn't a long wait in line for tables although it looked crowded, we were seated after about 15 minutes of waiting. The inside is quite nicely furnished now, but still the same small space. There is a $1/person charge, and the tea quality justifies this surcharge, it was very nice tea-- fragrant and light. I was looking through the menu while we waited, so we could place the order right as we sat down (hungry peeps). First to arrive was the Halibut with Scallions and Ginger in Premium Soy Sauce ($8.25). The halibut was cooked perfectly, juicy and flakey inside with a crispy exterior that was evenly coated with the soy sauce. Not overly seasoned, I quite enjoyed the piping hot fish. Wish there were more pieces considering the price we paid. Rice Roll Wrapped with Donut ($5.25) was an utter disappointment. The rice roll itself was mediocre, chewy but not quite "smooth". The Chinese donut was hard as a rock and over-fried. Normally it should be crispy on the outside with a bread-like interior. At least they put the soy sauce on the side. I saw the Beef Ball, Spare rib, Chicken Feet combo ($4.75) and was sold immediately. Sadly, this wasn't quite up to standard. The chicken foot was nice, and the beef ball was a good size and average texture/taste. The spareribs were actually seasoned nicely but more than half of it was tiny bits of meat with chunks of fat. There was ONE piece with bone in it (I like the ones with bone). So basically this was one super oily dish. Deep Fried Sesame Ball with Seasame paste ($4.75) wasn't freshly made to order, but was still relatively warm. Crispy outside but the dough inside wasn't chewy enough. The sesame paste was too gritty and sweet that it didn't flow nicely. I ordered Beef Omasum in Tom Yum Sauce ($5.50). It was like any other omasum dish, but I like their concept of putting in Tom Yum. I'd say it's a rather personal taste, since I enjoyed this dish, but my mom said it was weird. Didn't settle for regular shrimp dumplings, so we got Meat Rissoles with Crab ($5.75). Probably the most disappointing dish of the whole meal, possibly my whole dim sum eating life. The wrapping was soft and soggy, fell apart when touched, not chewy at all. The filling did indeed contain real crab, but it also did not hold and so... the dish just all fell apart before it reached any bowl. Similar to any good sushi, your dumpling is not meant to break apart before it reaches your bowl, the wrapping should be strong enough to hold it, yet still be soft, smooth, and chewy. Another combo dish, Steamed Tri-Buns ($4.75) should contain a custard bun, a BBQ pork bun, and a chicken bun. I say "should" because I got double of the BBQ pork bun *sadface* I asked a waiter to confirm I wasn't being stupid and not able to differentiate the two remaining buns (custard is round and easily distinguishable from the other two). These were good, the custard bun had flowy filling, as advertised and tasted pretty legit. The buns themselves were good texture and taste. I just wish I had a taste of that chicken bun now. Something with a fusion twist to it, since I don't think truffle is commonly in Chinese dishes, the Pork Shiu-Mai with Truffle ($5.50) arrived. These looked normal, with some truffle sauce on top. I did not like the taste of the truffle, it was slimey and tasted like concentrated Chinese mushrooms. The shiu mai itself was made with ground pork and had good bite to it. Average size. Lamb isn't commonly in dim sum, and I'm a sucker for lamb so...Pan Fried Lamb Pastry with Leeks ($6.25) was ordered. These buns were not worthy of the price we paid. Pan fried to a golden exterior with the bun being soft and moist, and the filling being all lamb, I liked the flavors. However, there were only three small buns. THREE. Still hungry, we ordered a Wonton Noodle Soup ($7.80/bowl) expecting the usual wontons, but were surprised when they showed up more like pork and chive dumplings with no shrimp. The meat wasn't very fresh inside the dumplings, the wrapping was chewy and smooth though. Noodles weren't anything special, but I like the added touch of greens. I got the Pan Fried Tofu with Shrimp Paste ($5.25), the tofu was a big chunk with shrimp paste on top. Nicely fried, it was crispy and I like how they placed the sauce on the side. Shrimp paste met average standards. When I saw our bill was $124.74 I freaked a little. Then I looked to see that they had charged us 55 people's worth of tea-- no wonder! Luckily I caught it, and they changed it. But still, paying more than $10/person for dim sum is a rarity for my family, so this was a surprise. Overall, good service, high quality tea, hit or mostly miss dim sum.

I was lucky I didn't wait long in line. Best to arrive early. I am not sure what the secret to the rice roll but Wow, it's so thin, silky, smooth texture with the toppings, so great together. The last 2 times we had rice roll with my daughter at Portland and Seattle- followed per Instagram reels- those did not even compare to these rolls. My first visit I got the combo which is the best deals, starts at $15.50 but depends on what you select for the selection for rice rolls and congee. I got the pork & preserved egg congee, shrimp, mushroom, pork rice roll. The 2nd visit I got the combo again, with liver & preserved egg congee, scallop and shrimp rice rolls, but I got my order wrong for the roll- they missed the shrimp. fyi-I found out that bean sprout, corn, toppings are free! Both combo came out to $17. super cheap! Cash only, they take USD but its the same dollar $ value. I wish they take credit cards, hehe. & the Verdict: Yummy, the congee hits the spot for comfort food, loved how it is cooked and they add peanuts too. Love the packet of sauce for the rice rolls, the umami-ness, so good. Best to eat it hot and fresh! Don't forget to ask for chili sauce, to add that extra spicy kick! For now, I am not sure I'll ever find a spot that is closest to Hei Hei for my congee and rice roll fix until I get to visit Richmond, BC again.

For those that don't know, Chang Fen is a silky and soft steamed rice noodle that's made in a sheet, filled, and then rolled up and served with a savory soy sauce and chili oil. Classic fillings include shrimp, beef, pork, and veggies, but there are many other combinations, and Yin Ji introduced me to my new favorite, pork and olive! We also had to enjoy a "frozen HK milk tea" with it! Frozen here = chilled and it's served in a big bowl of ice so you don't dilute the rich flavor of the tea! As a non Chinese speaker in a rich Chinatown, service and communication can be challenging but that was not the case here at all! The staff was so welcoming, happily spoke English and helped us where necessary and made the visit incredible! It started because we saw signs saying cash only, but had not exchanged USD, and they quickly told us CC was welcome with an added fee, which we happily paid. I'm so glad I found Yin Ji and made the trip to get here during my time in Vancouver. If you're a fan of Chinese cuisine, especially breakfast and lunch staples, this is a must!
