A friend and I came here for lunch and were absolutely blown away! I've been eating General Tso's Chicken for over 15 years and I'm not joking when I say this is the best I've had. High Quality! That is the first thing that comes to my mind when describing Duck Sauce. I ordered fried rice, chicken and broccoli and pork steamed dumplings. The pork dumplings were by far the best I have ever eaten... (getting hungry just thinking about them). The chicken and broccoli was different than what I am used to, and was a touch on the bland side. Both the chicken and the broccoli in the dish were very fresh tasting and real! Very good Chinese food! I've been coming here for many years and have never had a problem. Their sushi rolls are pretty good too! One of my favorites isn't on the menu but it's honey chicken. Love this place! I hadn't been there in about 8 years, but I suggested it for a family dinner. Everyone (even the pickiest amongst us) LOVED it! The atmosphere is a bit fancy, not exactly a jeans n tee shirt place, but the prices are very reasonable. We ordered from the Chinese menu, but the other side of the menu is Eurasian. Everything we ordered was delicious. The standouts were the Shrimp Tempura Roll and the Spicy Pineapple Rice. I shared my meal with my daughter and we still have enough for leftovers. The service was friendly as well. I really can't wait to go back and try more of their dishes. I definitely recommend this place for anyone who's looking for a pleasant surprise. read more

Duck Sauce used to have the best Chinese I'd ever tasted. The sesame beef, general tso's, and the pad Thai were all extraordinary. We ordered takeout or dined in here four or five times a month because it was great food for a fair price. The restaurant has recently changed hands and I doubt we'll ever go to Duck Sauce again. The chicken is cheap and mushy-tasting. The general tso's is brown and gross, and the sesame tofu is mushy and flavorless, served with three or four stems of broccoli instead of the former pile of yummy assorted roasted veggies. Seemingly overnight this place went from being some of the best food I'd ever had to tasting like any ordinary mall stand. It's such a shame. read more

For fancier Chinese takeout, please try this place! The food is delicious and on repeated trips has been served very fresh and consistent. The cod is flakey and juicy and one of my favorites. Duck Sauce is probably my favorite Newtown Restaurant. I've never had a bad meal at this place, and I can always find something different on the menu to try that I've never had before. Plus the room is nice inside (even if its a little small, be prepared for a wait on the weekends). The great thing is that they have all the traditional Chinese stuff (The Won Ton Soup is fantastic), but they also have a more contemporary fusion type menu that will please most suburban foodies who don't feel like travelling to the city to get quality food. One of my favorite dishes is the Shan Shien Sizzling Rice dishes that come out smoking hot with your choice of Shrimp, Beef, or Chicken with mixed veggies. The basic Chicken and Broccoli is also really good and comes with a better quality of Chicken than most Chinese places usually have. Also be sure to try the Duck Spring Rolls, they kick ass. When i walked into duck sauce it was filled with smoke, that had already lowered my review but when i sat down and ordered the man was in a rush. I ordered chicken teriyaki and that was a mistake. I found a hair in my rice and the rest of my family's meals came out almost right away. But mine came out 35 minutes later. It wasn't even the right thing, it was salmon. I ordered from Duck Sauce tonight for take out. The large "House Lo Mein" that I ordered literally did not have a single piece of shrimp....not one. It had two small pieces of pork, and mostly chicken...barely any vegetables. The noodles were undercooked- they had an al dente texture which made for gummy mouthfuls of noodles with barely any vegetables, pork, and no shrimp. I also ordered the "Chicken with Mixed Vegetables". It was more like "mixed vegetables with a little bit of chicken"- barely any chicken in comparison to the amount of vegetables. Comfortable interior, eclectic menu - it's mostly Chinese, but you can get sushi rolls or thai noodles as well. The risotto special didn't seem to belong (so we didn't order it!). We ordered several dishes - the best, hands down, was the wok seared beef, followed by the pork mu shu (pre-rolled). On the "adequate but I've had better" side was the crab cake (enormous but the crab to non-crab stuffing ratio was low) and fried calamari (the Italians do it better). This was the second time that I've tried Duck Sauce and both times I have been disappointed. First, when I called to order take out the hostess did not know much about the food. I ordered extra white rice and she assured me that it came with my meal (when I got home there was no rice) and I ordered the mu shu pork and when I asked how many pancakes it came with she told me 4 (when I got home there were only 2 and way too much pork for only 2 pancakes). Obviously I would have ordered more pancakes if I knew that. The food itself is alright. I've had much better, and when Asian restaurants are a dime a dozen the most important thing is to stand out with exceptional food. Unfortunately Duck Sauce falls short. When I called to speak to a manager in regards to my missing food there was none available so I left a message with the same hostess that took my order. Honestly, I would have left it at that because I don't usually complain and I rarely post reviews. I would simply just never return. But then I received a call back from the teenage hostess stating simply that next time I order that I need to ask for white rice separately (which in fact I did prior to her telling me it came with the noodles I ordered). There was no apology. There was no speaking to the manager. There was no compensation. Obviously, I will never return here and I urge you not to either as there are multiple more authentic and tastierAsian restaurants with better service within a 5-10 mile radius. read more

I was attempting to enjoy a nice authentic Chinese cuisine when I took one bite of my food and suddenly had to rush to the bathroom. My IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) was in full effect and causing me to twist in pain. I had to lay in birthing positions to try to alleviate the stress. Finally I layed on the dirty bathroom floor to stretch out my intestines. This was all due to the undercooked chicken I ate. I clogged the toilet and despite the sign telling me to notify a worker in case that happens which means it clearly happens a lot, I was too embarrassed! I liked it a lot. Was a little hard to find and parking kind of sucked. The shimp tempura roll was a little wierd. Very good taste and presentation, but it didn't seem like it was a tempura batter. Seemed like the shimp was breaded and fried. Missing the crunch that I love so much. I got the house Pad thai. The meat and shimp were of really good quality. Noodles were cooked well. I ate here recently I got a seafood special with vegetables, squid, scallops, and shrimp. All were overcooked to the point of being mush. The sauce was a tasteless glop. Later I read the health department description of the 11 violations discovered here, Included was an employee using his finger to taste a sauce. Along with roaches, improper food storage, and temperatures. I will never, never eat here again. I feel lucky that I did not get poisoned. Avoid this restaurant for your health and safety. read more

For what it is and location, Duck Sauce is delicious. They have bottomless crispy noodles which I love and the sauces are always replenished. Depending on the time/day you go, be sure to be patient. You are greeted with friendly faces and then when your table is available, you are promptly provided menus and their specials are always listed on the table. If you have dietary restrictions, the staff is well educated to go through their recommendations. I ordered the pork with snow peas. It literally feeds at least 2-3 servings. Their portion sizes are generous and full of flavor and very fresh. Service is very attentive and they are also a BYO. Can't complain, never had a bad meal here. read more

I would like to start by saying this restaurant has our favorite Chinese food in the area. We have been ordering from them for 9 years, when we lived in Newtown and now when we're 15 minutes away and still choose to order from them. Their general Tso's chicken and tofu are both amazing dishes! Why 2 stars? We always order takeout and their takeout needs a lot of work. We received wrong items many times and the only thing they offer is for us to drive back there 15 minutes and pick up the correct item. Now, Bamboo kitchen has forgotten items for us and they go above and beyond to get it to us as they understand it was their fault. Tonight we were told that our brown rice substitute was not on the receipt so whoever took the order must not have heard my husband when he said it. We have also had an issue where it was packaged so poorly that the general tso's chicken spilled all over the back of his car. Be careful when you are ordering takeout. We do love the food at Duck Sauce, and want to keep ordering from there. This is our 9th trip to Duck Sauce in Newtown since moving here from the NYC area 9 months ago. We have eaten at quite a few Chinese / Asian restaurants and i would rate Duck Sauce as the best of them all. The food here is consistently good. We had perfect Hot n Sour soup tonight.The generous serving of fried dumplings had a delicate casing that was thin and not filling, [ I ate five !!] while the interior was beautifully spiced and of perfect texture. We shared a large entre of pine nuts and chicken served on a beautiful bed of basil leaves. Even the hot tea seemed special with a bit of a kick, unlike the tepid teas served at the typical Asian restaurant. Our server Justin was very pleasant, and intuitively knew when to stop by at our table to bring the next plate or check on things, without being intrusive. A very pleasant meal for two for 27$ !!!
