The prices are alright for a typical Chinese sit-down restaurant, but I DO NOT recommend any rice or noodle dishes. We ordered vegetable fried rice, and it came out very bland and... moist. It didn't seem like it was cooked and seasoned enough. However, the dumplings were good, and the crispy spicy chicken was great as well. I have lived in NYC long enough to not let poor services bother me (i.e. slam the dishes in front of you). You are better off come here knowing what you want and just place your order with the waiter without expecting too much. However, the inconsistency of the bill confuses me. The first time I was here with two friends (one Chinese and one non-Chinese), we paid with the credit card. The second time I was here with a Chinese friend, the waitress told us in Chinese that it would be cash only. I was surprised and we barely had enough cash to cover our 20% tips. As I was happily eating my dumpling to my surprise I found a baby roach in my food, .That means that there's probably a whole family of roaches in their kitchen. I went back for a refund and they immediately gave it to me as they can confirm with their own eyes that it was a roach. So unless you like extra protein (roaches) in your food this is the best place to go. I should have called the health department, but I hope that the owner of this restaurant find this review and takes action. You can't make reservations, it's first come first serve. So make sure your entire party has arrived before trying to get a table. The service is super quick and the food is delicious! I have tried: - A29 Shandong Style Pan Fried Dumplings: despite the name of the restaurant, I think the dumplings are one of my less favorite items to get here. Good enough to order if I am craving them, but the flavor of the meat/texture of the skin are nothing special. - A30 Mini Soup Steamed Dumplings with Pork: same opinion as the dumplings ^ - A33 Pan Fried Buns with Pork & Leeks: these are also not my favorite to get here--the outer bun is too thick so the ratio to the filling is off, and the flavor is just okay. - A16 Scallion Pancakes: fried items here are very crispy, which I personally love. - A17 Sliced Beef with Scallions Roll in Pancakes: same as above, and the flavor of the beef + sauce is so yummy. - G16 Sauteed Black Mushrooms over Greens: mushrooms over bok choy in a thickened brown sauce, a fine veggie dish. - G18 Ma Po Tofu: not actually spicy in my opinion despite it saying so on the menu but flavor is good! - E17 Sauteed String Beans with Minced Pork: love this dish! So be sure to keep this in mind as you'll see a lot of menu items you might not have come across before. Since it is called Dumpling House I, of course, had to go with the dumplings. And they are darn good. There is quite a selection and all the ones I've tried (I've probably had 5 or 6 different kinds) have been great. And in case you're not feeling the dumplings, there is a lunch menu. This is a great place to break from the norm and really try something more authentic and adventurous. I came with my family, and we shared the following dishes: Sliced Beef with Scallions Roll in Pancakes, Chinese Hamburger w. Cilantro & Green Peppers, Potato Pancake, Mini Soup Steamed Dumplings with Pork, Slice Fish Szechuan Style (Large), Lamb with Mixed Vegetables in Clay Pot, and Sauteed Chicken Szechuan Style. I most enjoyed the soup dumplings, potato pancake, and scallion pancake. I am always a sucker for soup dumplings. The way they burst in your mouth is so addicting. I could have honestly eaten a whole order of them on my own. The potato pancake was sooo crispy and yummy. It had the right amount of flavor and had a sauce to pair with it, which was perfect. The potatoes were fried with perfection and the scallions present helped enhance the flavor. The sliced beef scallion pancake rolls were also pretty solid. While the outside was crispy, the inside was soft and chewy. The flavor of the beef was also not too overpowering, leaving you a sweet flavor in contrast to the salty pancake exterior. The Chinese Hamburger w. Cilantro & Green Peppers was by far the most disappointing out of the appetizers. The bun was rock solid and dry while lacking any kind of flavoring. The pork inside was too fatty and was not enough to make up for the disappointment of this dish. I have always enjoyed Slice Fish Szechuan Style so we opted for it in the large size. While there was a good amount of fish fillet, I was not too impressed with the flavoring of the broth. It felt a bit lackluster and was only enhanced by the large amount of chili peppers present in the dish. The lamb with mixed vegetables in clay pot also came out overly salty. The noodles, which I often love, were way too salty as it soaked up too much of the broth. Lastly, the Sauteed Chicken Szechuan Style did not taste like anything special. My sister meant to order the dry version, which made it unfortunate. This version did not have much meat and the vegetables felt overly raw and had not been cooked long enough. This dish also turned out salty so maybe the chef that day just felt like dousing the dishes with a copious amount of salt. We ordered rice to pair with the dishes, and it was the most disappointing rice I have had at an Asian restaurant. Overall, I would give this place a 3.5 (rounded up to 4) since I did enjoy most of their appetizers. read more

Their normal dumplings are amazing, as the name would suggest, but I think the real gems are their soup dumplings and their pork buns. Both are to die for. This is a great takeout option but also the nice ambiance and good service makes it a great place to dine in.
