Came here with friends and absolutely LOVED my grilled chicken & hummus plate. Fresh and flavorful ingredients, a colorful plate-- this food makes you feel so good! Service was attentive and friendly. Interior is cute and simple. Limited seating but they have indoor and outdoor options available. Lower leveled parking structure nearby, entrance is through the small alley next to the restaurant. Highly recommend this spot! I could have this plate everyday if I could! read more

Trust the reviews, the food is great and this spot is so charming. I ordered the pickled beet sandwich and didn't really know what to expect. I used to order from Dune West. Unfortunately they have moved their business further from my house. But the food was so delicious! Large portions that lasted for more than just one meal. Dune is a hidden place, if you're going to fast you could miss it. It's contactless payments only and everything is made to order. There's no inside seating only a few curbside tables (but they fill up quick) $17 bucks, and takes about 15-20 minutes per order since it's made fresh. There aren't many ways to alter your order since the menu is small. I would give my grilled sandwich at 4/5 it was very flavorful + fresh and filling. I personally would've like more sauced + pickled onions. Really enjoyed it! read more

A nice comfortable place for a quick tasty lunch. Had the Fried Chicken Shawarma which was really good. Arugula, Sliced pickles and radishes with the chicken was nice with their light flat bread. The chicken did seem more like a schnitzel than any kind of shawarma though with very little of the shawarma flavor I was hoping for. Still though, a good schnitzel. Fast and friendly service from the one guy there that took care of every person who walked through the door. Hope to go back to try some of there other dishes. read more

Love this place! Came here for lunch on someone's recommendation and I'm so glad I listened. I got the lamb platter and it was delicious. The hummus was so silky smooth and the pickled radishes were yummy. Everything in this was lovely. I also got the Moroccan mint tea which was super refreshing. To top it all off, the woman who took our order was so kind and sweet, even making sure to wave goodbye when we left. 10/10 experience, great food, great vibes from staff. Please go here! read more

review for food and service- I was very confused by my experience here. I felt like I was being gaslit by the server/cashier person. The food was okay my main note on that was I ordered the steak gyro and the entire piece of meat which was charred and chewy was thrown in there haphazardly. it was WAY overcooked and it was just so tough to chew and literally eat I had to take the meat out and struggle to cut it into pieces which were still difficult to chew. See the flavor was good that't what frustrated me. It tasted good and the portion was good but I would like to be able to eat my food easily or at least manageably. Then the server/waiter, it appears there is only one person working the front and the floor which is not enough because this person was SO passive aggressive, we were not seated we had to ask if we could sit anywhere and then they responded very brashly, then they also had very backhanded responses to people who came to pick up food like uber eats drivers something along the lines of they shouldn't take the food to the drivers since they aren't being tipped for their labor. Overall they were not friendly and gave a whole bunch of attitude I was afraid to even ask about why i couldn't chew my steak. I want to go back even if I couldn't chew my food because flavor was there but it was pricey and i don't feel like being afraid of the staff and being bullied when I want the right kind of food I can chew. Overall really angsty experience from staff and pretty pricey. hopefully they get new staff or something because the behavior was bold. I work in customer service too so i get it, but not to that extent. read more

Dune Mediterranean Restaurant in downtown LA is a culinary gem. All their dishes have such vibrant flavors. Dune offers a diverse menu that highlights the rich traditions of Mediterranean cuisine. I've tried a few of their dishes such as their house-made pita with hummus , grilled chicken, falafel, and lamb plate. Everything on this plate is sooooooo delicious. BTW the portion sizes are pretty large! I've only ordered takeout around lunch time but upon arrival the ambiance is always warm and welcoming. The staff are always nice and helpful! This restaurant is a must-visit if you love Mediterranean food and you're looking for something light for lunch! read more

Interesting menu, very limited seating, only a few tiny tables outside. I've never had literally hummus and egg presented like this, sort of salad like but it tasted really good! the flat bread was dense and flavorful and made a good base for the ingredients. Dune is so LA that is should be on a must visit list. First off, the food is amazing. There's no denying that. Everything I've tried has been delicious and pretty unique. Fries with Bulgarian feta on top? Fluffy pita covered with some amazing spices? Unpasteurized pickled turnips? Crispy onions in the falafel sandwich? It's also really cute - the atmosphere is cozy, the dishware is rustic, and the music is a vibe. It was closed for inside dining for a full 4 years though, after Covid. Glad to see it's finally back. The staff act like they're doing you a favor by taking your order (very LA). Substitutions are vehemently denied - as if you're dining at a Michelin-star restaurant and not ordering a falafel sandwich at the counter. Overall, I would recommend Dune to anyone looking for a delicious and unique middle eastern restaurant, but I'd love it even more if they'd dial down the attitude a bit. read more

SO GOOD. Phoned in for delivery after a last minute decision and our order was ready in less than 10 minutes (~7pm). Amazing. The Hummus and Grilled Chicken Plate is a solid choice for an incredibly satiating meal. This could have been 2 portion sizes, but I was quite hungry. The greens, pickled vegs, and olives were more than enough to satisfy my love of vegetables. The amount of grilled chicken in this serving is huge. The hummus was delicious, creamy, and paired well with everything on my plate. (My photo doesn't really do much justice to how delicious this meal was). Also ordered a side of fries, which was enough to feed 4 people. I can't wait to come back and try their breakfasts and desserts!! read more

I lived in downtown for several years but moved away as this restaurant opened up. But now when I go back, this is a mandatory place to eat. I'm pescatarian so I've only had the falafel. The wrap comes with herbs that give the wrap an incredibly delicious and unique taste. I've never had a more delicious falafel wrap and I always recommend it to friends. This is a really cute restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The service is wonderful and the lemonade was delicious! I always have a good experience here. read more

Was in the fashion district and decided to pop over to Dune. It was a little tricky finding parking per usual in downtown but the food here is soooo worth it!!! It's small inside but has outdoor seating. I ordered the hummus and grilled chicken plate which was a served with side of house flatbread, pickled turnips & radishes, marinated cabbage and onions, seasonal greens & herbs, olives. It was heavenly and I was shocked by the huge plate of food when our server brought it out. The perfect combo of hot and cold food fresh tender and grilled! Definitely worth checking out! read more

Back at Dune after 3 years telecommuting and very glad Dune survived the pandemic that shuttered many eateries in DTLA. The entire indoor is converted into a to-go prep area. Three tables are located outside on the sidewalk for dining. I was craving Mediterranean food and Dune's Bocquerone Toast caught my eye. It's actually a breakfast item, but also a perfect healthy light lunch! Mild White Anchovies on top of avocados slices beautifully seasoned with tangy sauce and mildly spicy. The sandwiches at Dune are mind-blowingly delicious. I tried the Sabich Sandwich (eggplant/hummus) and the Pickled Beets Sandwich (without feta and egg), and I highly recommend them. Each bite has so many contrasting and complementing flavors--it's a sandwich-eating experience like no other! In addition, the ciabatta from Bub and Grandma's Bakery on the Pickled Beets Sandwich is so incredibly good. The bread's outside has a nice crust but not hard enough to hurt the roof of your mouth, while the inside remains soft and chewy. The sandwich as a whole has a great a mouth-feel as you bite further down into the pickled beets. For anyone who loves Mediterranean food or sandwiches, you have to come to Dune! read more

Food is great and portioning is HUGE! They are also very conscious of food allergies, which I really appreciated. The service is always really friendly. Very friendly, love the social distancing and the care of how staff is during these uncertain times. The Grilled Chicken is amazing and so much flavor and chard nicely. The peta bread was nicely fresh and warm I don't know if it was homemade but it sure tasted like it was. I then washed the amazing flavors down with the unsweetened mint iced tea, (Note, this was very difficult as I didn't want to have the wonderful flavors to leave my mouth.) Enjoyed the minty, black tea flavor and honestly I'm not a huge fan of mint but this was great. I can't believe I missed this place for so long and I've been working in DTLA for over a decade. If you have had the pleasure of eating here then you know what others are missing. If you haven't had a chance to eat here, now is your time to enjoy great tasting food. Right in the heart of DTLA, this is a quant little spot that is very easy to miss. The staff inside were very friendly and really sweet, which is always nice. I ordered the shawarma sandwich with pickled onions, my friend ordered the hummus and lamb plate; both were incredibly delicious. The food felt fresh, filling and very flavorful. Lots of vegetables, great portions of meat and just all around tasty looking too. My main complaint is lack of seating. We did go during a busy time because there was a show down the street, so I think that caused an issue. But for a place with so many people getting food, 4 tables that seat 2 people each are clearly not enough. read more

I was coming here for a whole month basically every day. The hummus is phenomenal. Every time I came in I ordered hummus which ALWAYS came with pita bread. I went in yesterday and ordered an extra pita bread so I could share with my friend. When I got my bag there was only one in there and I kindly asked for another one. The girl who runs the front (who is normally kind) was disrespectful and argumentative, putting me into confusion. She told me that I was lying, and that no one had ever given me a pita bread with my hummus before? I felt so disgusted by that interaction, that I will never return! Absolutely delicious Mediterranean restaurant located right in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, making it the perfect lunch stop on a sunny summer weekend. All of their seating is outdoors, but you'll be shaded from the sun with their lovely olive green umbrellas, and the service is still incredible from the moment you take a seat to when you leave for your next LA adventure. You can order from a window in the storefront, and all of the utensils, napkins, and water is available at self-service stations on the edges of the restaurant area. All of their food is delightful and incredibly fresh. I enjoyed their hummus and tabbouleh plate, subbing out the pita for cucumber for their gluten-free option, and every single part of it was absolutely delicious! They were incredibly generous with the hummus, and the tabbouleh (which is made with quinoa and therefore also gluten-free!!) tasted incredibly fresh and all-around wonderful. Both the rich, creamy hummus and light tabbouleh paired perfectly with the super flavorful pickled turnips and radishes, olives, and marinated cabbage and onions. The cucumbers (or, if you aren't gluten-free, flatbread) were perfect for scooping up the last bits of hummus at the end of the meal and breaking up the saltiness and powerful flavors of the other parts of the platter. My parents tried out their hummus and grilled chicken plate, as well as their hummus and lamb plate, and they were both incredibly impressed by the quality of the meat (and flatbread) and the way both proteins paired with the hummus and pickled veggies. I really appreciate how clearly all of their allergens were marked, and the staff was incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, and accommodating of dietary restrictions. All in all, whether you're vegetarian or not, gluten-free or not, allergic to nuts or not, Dune has something for you, and I can guarantee that it'll be fresh and delicious. read more

I ordered their vegetarian beet sandwich as takeout. Everything was prepared promptly and ready to go when I arrived. It was delicious. The beets were hearty and well seasoned and dressed. Notably the sourdough was grilled and particularly delicious. There's not always a ton of grab and go tasty vegetarian options available downtown. This was really excellent. read more

Dune in Downtown LA was very close to work but somehow we never made it there. Finally stopped by during lunch and we were glad we tried it. We got meze plate with falafel, hummus, and fried chicken. We also got a lamb wrap. They were tasty and fulfilling. The green spicy mint sauce and yellow pickled mango sauce on the table added more character to our dishes. Service was also excellent, we told the cashier it was our first time and she suggested some popular dishes for us. We would come back for sure. read more

I have eaten at Dune about 10 times in the last 3 weeks as I'm addicted to the grilled chicken (souvlaki) and it's always been great... except for tonight! LOL For some reason, tonight was a hot mess. Well, not hot, but like warm as I had to drive it from restaurant to a loft downtown. I ordered my usual - the grilled chicken plate - but 2 plates this time as I was bringing one to a friend who has never had it and we were going to eat and watch Game 1 of the Dodgers Playoffs. I also ordered 2 falafel side dishes, all of this over the phone from my favorite person there, Audrey, and a few things were just wrong-- First, the chicken was slightly undercooked and rubbery and just tasted a little off when compared to the heavenly meals I've had every other time. Normally, it's a perfectly cooked and seasoned affair, strips that remain juicy and sooooo flavorful. (You don't need extra sauces but they do have a whole array for an upcharge of $1 each). Second problem, and it was a doozy: they forgot to include the warm lafa style bread to make sandwich bites out of the chicken and hummus and veggies. Definitely a bummer as the meal was $55 w tip and I was introducing a buddy who lives in DTLA for the first time to it and I really wanted him to have the full and fantastic meal I stumbled upon in finding Dune recently. Third, the generally pretty and well thought ought presentation of the salad, beans, twisty pepper, and vegetables? Well tonight it was just a dizzy wet mess. The saving grace tonight was the falafel ball appetizers: you get 3 for $8 and they towed the line in good faith. So good, drizzled over w tahini, these falafel balls are some of the very best in town in that they have a nice browned crunchy exterior but are soft and warm and fluffy inside with a great flavor. These held up. This one guffaw of a meal should not dissuade you from trying out Dune Hummus/Falafel Restaurant as it is some of the best Mediterranean food in Los Angeles! Truly!! That is why I'm still giving it five stars. Maybe order and eat it there on the spot as that is what I've done all the other times I've eaten there and it was always delicious. Dune, Audrey, Geraldine-- I love your food!!! read more

Established in 2015.

In 2015, Dune opened in the Atwater Village neighborhood of Los Angeles. Our vision was to pay homage to the food we love using the freshest, cleanest, and most local ingredients possible. We were inspired to add the voice of our city to the chorus of beautiful and diverse cultures who call this cuisine their own, and to create our own unique version of the street food of the Levant and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Meet the Business Owner: Scott Z.

Zwiezen is well known as the co-founder and chef behind the hugely popular vegetarian spot, Elf, in Echo Park. Now in it's 11th year, Elf began serving complex, richly flavored vegan and veggie fare far ahead of the trends. "We were really keen on traditional Middle Eastern recipes which are so rich in flavors and textures," explains Zwiezen of Elf's inception, "rather than fake meats and whatnot." With Dune, Zwiezen has expanded that philosophy to include organic, sustainably raised lamb and free-range chicken, exploring Middle Eastern classics, but adding his own unique take. "I grew up in Louisiana and then later the suburbs of Denver. I was in my early 20s when I first tried Middle Eastern food and I was hooked from the first bite. I sought it out wherever I could from then on and years later when I opened a place, there was no question of what type of food we'd be featuring."

We sat outside on a small patio facing Glendale Blvd. It's a tight space, and at one point someone from the street was walking around nearby talking to themselves, which made the experience a bit less comfortable. Staff was friendly and service was quick though, no issues there. Also, no public restroom, so keep that in mind. Overall, not bad. I was hungry, so I finished everything pretty fast, but it didn't really stand out enough for me to make a special trip again.

I ordered the Lule Kabob Combo ($22), which included skewers of minced beef and chicken, rice, veggies, pita, hummus, and a side salad. The highlights of the meal were definitely the salad and the grilled tomato; the pomegranate seeds in the rice were also a nice touch. However, the meats weren't to my taste--the chicken had an odd aftertaste, and while the beef was better, neither really worked for me. Adding the provided sumac and lemon helped, but I wouldn't order the kebabs again. Additionally, the hummus lacked creaminess, and the pita tasted like it was mass-produced rather than fresh. On the positive side, the portion sizes are very generous for the price point, and I left feeling full. I also have to mention that the patio is adorable and very "Instagrammable," so it's a great spot if you're looking for a photo-friendly environment. A quick note for future visitors: they are currently having issues with their card reader and are requesting cash or Zelle. It felt a little unusual to be rung up on a register only to pay via Zelle, but it wasn't a major deal. The sawdust on the floor may be gone, but the personality certainly isn't. Philippe's still feels like old Los Angeles. People share tables, strike up conversations, and enjoy a meal without anyone rushing them out the door. Then there's something you almost never find downtown anymore--free parking. That's worth mentioning all by itself. Could I explain why I'm giving Philippe's five stars? I suppose I could. But when you have friendly people like Elizabeth, a fresh lamb dip made right in front of you, reasonable prices, free parking, and more than a century of Los Angeles history, what more could you ask for? I'm definitely looking forward to coming back to try their breakfast menu and other items though. Because peeking at the other tables they offerings looked delicious.

Everyone should check out this place Dune in Atwater, I can't objectively say bad things about it. Except that maybe we had to wait a little for the food but in my book that's a good thing. I really hate when you order and 2 minutes later you get the food. The pita is unique and all the ingredients used to make it are high quality and as fresh as they come. The lamb was just amazing, perfectly cooked and tasty, not overly salty or spiced up. If I was being picky I would say that everything doesn't yet flow together, there is a bit of downtime between courses and communication among staff seems to be up and down, but let's just hope this place works and finds it's style. I come to LA regularly for work. I'm a huge fan of Lebanese foods and Mediterranean style cuisines. First of all it is own by a really lovely husband and wife couple. The wife waited on me while I watched the husband make the bread fresh in the open kitchen. As soon as I saw him toss a log of wood into the oven, I knew it was going to be a good meal. I wasn't really in the mood for much bread, but it was suggested I get the "Lebano Oregano" which is a Punic Bread. I havent had it before so wasn't sure what it would like exactly. She also recommended the "Lebano Cream Cheese" which is essentially their version of a Lebneh. The Punic bread was so soft, flavorful and freshly hot from the oven! I smeared the Lebano on it and was just mouth watering deliciousness. I would fly back here just for this combination!! It was incredible. I also ordered the hummus with a side of fresh pita. The pita was also cooked in the wood fired oven and it did not disappoint! The hummus, WOW!!! Someone else commented it was heaven and I have to agree. I'm very picky about my hummus. I travel around the world eating and I'm spoiled for choice. I know good hummus when it hits my mouth. The atmosphere was airy, clean and I love that you can see them making the bread in the wood burning stove! If you're in LA, please do yourself a favor and stop in. Apparently they cater too. I would absolutely use them if I lived here. Holy smokes I wish they had a location where I live. The wife apparently is also a chef who specializes in other cuisines too. They were so humble, kind abs warm. My kinda place. Not pretentious just real down to earth people with incredible food.

It can be a little confusing because there's another 555 building around 5th Street across from the Public Library, so make sure you're heading to the right one. The food is decent. The seating is on the outdoor patio, which is actually really nice on a sunny day. It's a convenient option if you work in the building or nearby, but I wouldn't recommend trying to track it down if you're on a short lunch break.

The prices are pretty darn great. The delivery time was really reasonable only about 30 minutes from the time that I placed the order. I can't say anything about the ambience because well like I said I did not visit their restaurant. I placed an online order at 10:15 a.m. for a pickup by 11, as it was for a work meeting. The order wasn't ready until 11:45, which made me late, and I got reprimanded by my boss. To make matters worse, they delayed our order because of a large corporate catering order, and it appeared they ended up throwing some of their food in with ours. Most of food was cold, and they forgot the tahini sauce for the falafel. On top of that, we had already tipped ahead of time via the app. While we've been loyal customers, we can no longer support a business that doesn't have the capacity to fulfill its orders on time. Very displeased. To make this right, we would like some kind of compensation, whether a refund, a credit. We hope you take this improvement seriously.
