If you're considering Alliance, don't…read more Roughly a year or so ago I hired them due to a leak coming from my chimney. After their inspection it was determine the flashing was in poor condition and needed to be replaced. This was done. About a month or two later the leak returned and some additional work on the flashing performed. Cut to earlier this year and the leak once again returned. Having lost faith in Alliance I went with another PDX-based fireplace and chimney company. On inspection they immediately asked who had done the work being going over how it was some of the worst, most incompetent/novice work they'd seen, went over the issues, and provided a quote for new flashing. Once work started and the Alliance flashing was removed it was then brought to my attention that not only was the flashing problematic but that the brickwork underneath it was eroded, quite noticeably so. While not Alliance's fault, this was called out as a contributing factor to the leak and should have called out when the original flashing was removed. Should have. They never brought it to my attention. Separate from work performed, Justin was pretty sloppy with communication and paperwork, as it would sometimes require 2 or 3 voicemails before I would hear back from him, as I'd notice issues with the quotes, and as I received calls from him from a few different phone numbers. There was also a tarp left wrapped around the chimney for a few weeks that he had no clue about. In summary: don't walk, run away. Between sloppy admin skills, bad communication, poor quality of work, and the willingness to do the bare minimum while covering up larger issues, I can't in good faith suggest Justin or his "team" to anyone.

They were responsive, arrived on time, and appeared knowledgeable. However, I'm deducting stars because I wasn't fully convinced about the thoroughness of their inspection and the value. For example, they didn't check whether the gas fireplace was working and mentioned that the fireplace was clean enough, which resulted in the entire visit--greeting, inspecting, cleaning, and leaving--taking less than 20 minutes. Despite this, I was charged the full flat fee. While I understand it was their busy season, I expected a more detailed inspection for the price. Overall, the experience was okay, but I wouldn't recommend them for anyone seeking an in-depth evaluation of their fireplace or chimney.

I could have ordered what I needed on Amazon, but I elected to purchase locally from Hometown. It's hard to believe, but an actual HUMAN BEING answered my call on about the 3rd ring. Hometown Hearth had to order an item, but it was here in 3 days...and the prices were nearly identical to what I found online. A real human called to tell me that my order was in. When I picked it up, there wasn't any codes to enter, or anything to scan. The person simply handed my parts, and I left a happy camper. Buying locally from the dwindling "mom and pop" stores is THE way to go! GREAT customer service, NO fiddling with codes, passwords, or dealing with (often) clueless big box store assistants. If you are in the market for anything from simple BBQ parts to high-dollar grills and wood stoves, THIS is a great option in the Portland Metro area. They are the real deal.

I drive by here regularly and today I came in for a propane refill. 4.6 gallons of fuel for $10.99 Not a bad price. They had 2 guys filling tanks and handing out tickets to take inside and pay. They looked hot as it was blazing outside and although they had a shelter to give them shade, it has a metal roof. They were making the best of it. 1 guy had a vulgar mouth and the tall guy didn't talk, he just looked like he wanted to go home. I was on a mission until I walked into the showroom. I swear I heard an angel singing when I noticed what I was walking into. I paid. Said, thank you and walked around till I felt guilty for how long I was talking. If we didn't have meat in the car, I definitely would have stayed for a while. Good news is that it's BBQ season and my other tank needs fuel and I need ... something, so I'll be back soon.

You just need to email PFS photos of the converter, they relay to Regency as PFS are their sales reps, and you get a new converter. Easy. Regency wanted more photos of the box itself besides the cat converter. Based on photos of some welds, they ended up replacing the entire wood stove insert for FREE. (I removed the old insert and installed the new one by myself). Portland Fireplace Shop (Kristin) was courteous, prompt and professional. Timely. Kept the ball moving forward in the process. Regency manufactures and stands by their products, obviously. Top notch, 1,000% recommend their products to everyone. I am grateful in this day and age of flakes and fakes - for a company that stands by their product so honestly. It is wonderful and so appreciated. Thank you. Allen Crimmins

I worked with Portland Fireplace Shop to install a wood insert stove into our existing non-working…read moreopen fireplace. The first time they came out they where prompt, and told us that our fireplace didn't have the correct dimensions for the insert (we had a very shallow firebox). They don't do masonry work, so I had to find someone else to remove enough bricks from the back of the fireplace to meet the install requirements. Knowing the desired install requirements I worked with the shop to find a stove that met my design goals and looked at various configurations. They were helpful throughout this whole process. After I had another contractor do the brick removal they came back out again to remeasure. This time everything was good and I ordered the insert. It was on back order and the estimate I got was for 2+ months out. This is fine, I was willing to wait. The insert arrived early, a month later, and we set up a time to do the install and inspection. They where on time, prompt, and passed inspection. The only negative part of the experience was that their installer routed the power cord for the fan incorrectly and it melted against the stove during the first few runs. I contacted them and they where very apologetic and willing to correct the issue. In spite of that, I would still do business with them again. They where timely, their communication was good, their pricing was reasonable, and I feel like I got the right wood insert for my place. Thanks again!
