RESTAURANT WEEK: I guess no one came but me. Anyway, it was a fun meal, but that's probably because I have awesome friends. Here's the breakdown: The bread and drinks are GOOD. I had a Raspberry & Champagne Mojito. YUM, I think fruity mojitos might just be my new favorite drink. The bread is fresh (but they give you one slice per person.. seriously, there's a reason people would ask for more!) However, they "ran out" of bread after our second basket. Which was a bummer 'cause we were STARVING and the food took FOREVER to come. Service was mediocre - the waitress was interesting, but I felt like we got no love. It took them forever to take our order, and even longer to bring out our courses. Get the Pan Seared Sea Scallop. Try the Lobster Mac & Cheese (they won't stiff you on the lobster, but I don't know if it is worth getting again). Amaretto Cheesecake is whatever, but if you want something chocolatey and decadent, go for the Chocolate Truffle Cake. The ambiance is nice and its pretty spacious for a Gaslamp restaurant. I would probably only go back for Happy Hour, 'cause the food was good but the prices weren't. read more

I was looking for a place to take some friends from out of town for drinks and some apps. I had narrowed my search down to three places in the Gaslamp and Dussini's won based on the ice river. Since it was open seating, we played musical chairs for about 15 minutes before we settled on a spot to accommodate our group. This gave me the opportunity to appreciate the ambiance of the loft. The pool tables were nice, the decor was rich and classy, the u-shaped bar was a nice touch, and the chairs we found by the fireplace were very comfortable. Even the reggae music was perfect. The apps were nothing to write home about - but, we were all satisfied. I loved the fact that they were generous with my Jack on the Rocks, and the alcohol actually reached the top of my glass. I was pleasantly surprised by this bar and would love to shoot some pool next time. And, see the ice river - because I never even had a chance the whole time we were there! read more

I was first introduced to Dussini's by Taste of Gaslamp and was hooked by their nice pool lounge area. We've been here for happy hour several times. The happy hour is a great deal, where can you get 2 sliders with fries for $3? not even at McDonald's! Stick with the regular burger tho, I thought the steak burger was way overcooked. The fries that came with the burger tasted great. It's truffle-ed!! The salad and the Cuban sandwich are good too, actually it's not really a "Cuban sandwich" but it is one of the better peninis I've had. Although 1 drink is required per person to get the deal, but it's still well worthy. And I love how late they open till (at least midnight). Never dined off of their main menu, but will return for that. read more

I love everything about this place beginning with the fact that the building used to be the old spaghetti factory and they did an amazing job with the interior architecture! It's so hip... even the bathrooms! The food is amazing, especially the lobster mac n' cheese and burger sliders. For drinks I would recommend the raspberry champagne mojito! It is to-die-for!!! I don't even like champagne but this drink is amazing! Oh, and the ice pad on the bar (so your drink stays cold) it super cool! And seriously, how can you go wrong with a place that has pool tables?! read more

This is the second time I've come to Dussini's. The first was upstairs at the bar/lounge area for some appetizers and drinks. We went during a Chargers vs. Colts game and it was a suprisingly fun place to watch. Granted the tvs are a bit small and high up so we had to get up and move closer when it got exciting but overall the crowd was having a great time, especially when the Colts missed that last field goal. This second time we had dinner downstairs for a friends brithday with about 18 people. Service was great and our waiter was friendly and attentive with our big party. I ordered the crab cakes and lobster mac & cheese. The crab cakes were ok, but the lobster mac & cheese was really good! There's a 1/2 pound of lobster and the serving size is pretty big. The lobster is cooked well, not at all chewey and there are alot of pieces of lobster meat, you'll almost get one in every forkfull of food. I ended up splitting it with a friend and it filled us up to where we forced the last bites. This is the only time I'd justify $25 dollars for mac & cheese as worth it. read more

After starving all day in anticipation of a great meal at Dussini's, I never imagined I would actually still leave with an almost empty stomach. Very trendy decor and tons of wine selection. The lighting was perfect. It isn't a romantic place; it is more of a nice bar to get a drink or a place to go with friends for dinner. Now, the bad part....I hate to ruin it for those who love this restaurant but the food was disappointing. I ordered the sea bass. I felt my stomach send a distress signal as my food arrived. My plate had a medium size sea bass with a little something underneath it. After a careful search, I noticed there was a "tease" portion of mashed potatoes under my sea bass. I thought, well, this probably will taste REALLY good because the sea bass is obviously the highlight of this plate. I was totally WRONG. The sea bass was just not fresh. I must say, the taste was good but the fish was not cooked to the right consistency. The little (I mean, LITTLE) bit of mashed potatoes I had on the plate were actually really good. The martini was horrible. It tasted like the cheapest drink I have ever had. Now, to better things. The hostesses were nice and pleasant. Our server did not seem too experienced but she was nice. Been here quite a few times with friends+dates. Good drink mixes and a cool yet warm atmosphere. There's a fireplace here with sofas!-- If you're here on a date, make sure you get the sofas by the fire, but any seat at Dussini's works as the place is overall rather intimate. Drinks are on the pricier side but that's the nature of elegance. No spoilers, but let me just say there is a "cool" way of keeping your drink cold at the bar here. Go find out yourself ;) read more

I've dined here many times, including twice for company Christmas parties (thank you for inviting me, Cathy!), and I just love it. It's still owned by the same folks who own the Old Spaghetti Factory chain, and named after Guss Dussin, their founder. The servers are wonderfully friendly and knowledgeable. They make dining here a joy. The salmon plate and the (recently discontinued) wild mushroom penne plate are delicious, as is the complimentary fresh bread and hummus/olive tapenade appetizer. Everything is good here. They have an extensive wine collection (the wine vault is three stories tall, and next to the staircase). The Consilience Pinot Noir is exceptional. I probably drank half-a-bottle more than I should have at the last Christmas party, but it is soooo good. The Dussini Drop, their version of a lemon drop martini, made with Stoli Blueberry vodka, is the best lemon drop I've ever had. Upstairs, the bar and surrounding area are most inviting. The booze is all arranged by color, for visual appeal if not for efficiency, and the bar has a small "ice rink" around it. They don't need to use ice if the bartender sets your drink on it. Their gas fireplace is one of the few I've seen that actually gives off heat, sometimes too much heat if you're too close to it! The pool tables and flat screens make for a great after dinner experience, and the parmesan fries are incredible. I am not that crazy about the aioli sauce, but if you can get them to make it, ask for the curried ketchup to go along with the fries. You will not be sorry. My only complaint is that they FOOLISHLY discontinued the Field Greens Salad, which just might have been the best salad ever. Every time I visit I ask them to please bring it back. And each time I do, my server inevitably rolls her eyes and whispers, "I can't believe we don't have that anymore! I loved it, too!" Highly recommended. read more

They feature a signature drink called the "Evil Pirate" -- what more could you ask for? I was a bit skeptical of anything attached to the Old Spaghetti Factory, but I stumbled upon this bar by accident when walking back to my hotel the other day. The loft bar is vastly spacious and well decorated, from antique wingback chairs and ambient lighting, to the 10-foot fireplace flanking one wall, a glassed-in wine cellar, multiple billiard tables, several televisions for sports, and the horse shoe bar itself. It's very classy and would make a great date spot. The bar staff were great. The bar itself features 6-inch decorative band of ice to put your drinks on and keep them cool. It's like a mini-ice rink for cocktails and pints of beer. AWESOME. The beer selection (IPA, Fat Tire, Sierra Nevada and Stella on draft) and signature cocktails were impressive, and the bar food was delicious! You must experience the 50% off Happy hour M-F from 4:30-6:30pm and 10:00pm-close, and all day on Sunday. The appetizers generally range from $6-7 so the extra happy hour discount is a steal! I enjoyed the lobster mac & cheese and the mini-sliders at half price and both were absolutely wonderful. Other options include salads, calamari, ravioli, shrimp/spinach and artichoke dip, and more. Some beverage highlights: - Dussini Drop - consists of Stoli blueberry mixed as a lemon drop, served in an icy martini glass with a sugar rim and a lemon twist, and icy blueberries floating on top. It's good if you like lemon drops in general, but it is definitely sweet! - Evil Pirate - this is essentially a rum & coke on crack. Montecristo spiced rum, orange liquer, coke and fresh-squeezed lime juice. You cannot even taste the booze in this, and it's delicious, so BEWARE. They don't call it "evil" for nothing. - Raspberry mojito w/champagne floater - exactly as it sounds and blended with fresh raspberries, but this is very sweet so not for the faint of heart. read more

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place. Their drinks and their food are so much better than I expected, and the ambiance is nice and chill with comfy seats and dim (but not too dark) lighting. It's not too loud, so you can hold decent conversations. Still, the vibe is upbeat enough so that you don't feel like breaking out a book and a blanket and sitting on a rocking chair by their cozy fireplace. I'll have to say though, I liked them better before they returned their downstairs area to the Old Spaghetti Factory. A couple of years ago, their menu was filled with dreamy descriptions of drinks that promised unimaginable satisfaction. Now, they just list drinks with their contents. Eh. Also, they've shrunk down their menu removing (for shame!) the bacon-wrapped dates. Very upsetting. Ah well. What they do have remains delicious and satisfying without totally breaking my bank account. Oh, caveat though: don't expect quick service. It can sometimes take a million and a half years to get served. However, when your food and drinks finally do come, they're so good that you forget that you've aged five years since you arrived at the bar. read more

San Diego's best kept date night secret. High back leather chairs. A giant fireplace. Yummy food. Happy hour specials that are so worth it. We had 2 plates of sliders, the chicken, the fries, the calamari, 4 sodas, and a mud pie for $35. The only thing that sucks is the coffee tastes like foldgers, I wish they did espresso or at the very least a Keriug, there is not excuse for bad coffee. This bar has one thing that I like... And that is the frozen drink ledge that is built into the bar itself that you can place your beer upon to keep it cold. More bars should do this. I love that. Only been here once so I can't consider myself a fan of this place...but if I find the right friends to bring here then I will. I ordered 20oz of the Leine's Sunset Wheat and I found it to be delicious - I personally prefer Hefe's so don't order it expecting it to be the best thing ever created if you don't like wheat beers. The whole ambiance set here is extremely casual and chill - the comfortable chairs, soft music, and that fireplace - good lord it is relaxing. Dussini's is a cool, mellow little spot perfect for pre-dinner drinks with friends. There's tons of comfy seats grouped around low tables, and the "fire wall" is pretty awesome. The whole place is dark and intimate, but in a cool modern way. The bartender was fantastic: friendly and fast. Our drinks were great. There's a great appetizer menu: the Mediterranean chicken brochettes are juicy and delicious. Best part: Dussini's has a fantastic happy hour...drinks and snacks for two for $20, including a 30% tip? I was here for drinks and hung out in the bar area so this review is strictly based on that. The place is two floors, the lower being the restaurant and the top floor the bar area. They also have pool tables here. The whole place has a nice look and feel. It doesn't seem like a big place from outside. You have to sign up to play pool and from what I saw you have a wait time. People come after the ball game to have a drink and also, this is one of the places for the out of towners staying in nearby hotels. There is no Dj playing, just your regular stereo music. Anyway, the drinks were strong but the staff seemed slow. There is nothing to hate about this place and nothing to rave about it. I haven't tried their food but the menu list caught my eye. We stumbled into Dussini while waking around downtown, trying to find a decent place to eat. My sister's friends work there as servers, so I was curious to check it out. The restaurant and pool table lounge exceeded my expectations! The food was surprisingly good! I had a duck confit crepe, topped with a poached egg. Christy had seared scallops, and Val had the lowlight of the evening, a paella that was just slightly better than Uncle Ben's. The Raspberry Champagne mojito, served with fresh raspberries and mint, was also a special treat - we each drank two. In conclusion, I am sad to hear Dussini is shutting down, but will try and return the next time we are wandering around downtown. read more

Im rating this joint based on a Wednesday night, which was the night of my friends birthday. I wasnt satisfied with the bartending service since there were two people upstairs working the bar, but only one was a bartender! The other person was a waitress, which was silly cause she would take orders and bring them back to the bartender...we were the only people there!..so this was hella stupid looking. She would take our orders while we were at the bar and then relay it to the bartender who was also taking orders. When everyones order was taken, she would just stand there and stare and tell the bartender who was next...I was like why dont you help the bartender in doing at least the beer drink?! Didnt have any of the food, but my friends did and they said it was good...they had sliders and garlic fries. As for the decor of the place its pretty nice looking. the lighting is cool and they have a lot of pool tables upstairs. One cool thing is how the bar has an ring of ice around the bar where the bartender puts your drinks. I hope this place is better on the weekends when more people are here, but if not, then im just gonna feel really bad for the bartenders. read more

Dussini's makes a great strawberry mojito. I recently have become a fan of the mojito and the bartender did it right. Any time there are real ingredients, it makes me happy; like when I have to scoop out the strawberries from the bottom of my glass :) I haven't eaten in the restaurant part before but I've ordered the bar food. The mango cheesecake was delightful, the chicken skewers, pretty good (nothing super spectacular for chicken), and the garlic fries awesome. The lounge/bar upstairs was overall comfortable and relaxed. It was nice to be able to get slightly more dressed up, but still play pool and watch sports on the big screen tvs. A great downtown bar alternative; no lines, no cover charge, no huge crowds. read more

Very nice, classy vibe. I love the large fireplace off to one side, and the "ice ring" around the bar to keep your drinks cold. The service was attentive, but not intrusive. The bartender did not know how to make a Mint Julep, but he did make an effort to look it up, and when it arrived, it was delicious. The music was house, and was at the perfect level. I could talk and canoodle with my boyfriend without shouting and without worrying that anyone else could hear us. The banquettes, tables, chairs, and lighting have a luxe feel. Dussini's has a great mood; except for the pool tables, I felt like I was in a big city. The food was yummy and uncomplicated. Service was poor - slow, plated the dinner in waves, cocktails came out late, cleared the plates by stacking them like they do at my neighborhood diner. A few dollars more that what it probably should be. I suspect the night life might be the ticket here. My recommendation, go for appetizers and drinks and get dinner elsewhere. read more

I've only ever been here during happy hour after work, so all I can really talk about is all the appetizers and drinks I've tried. First of all, happy hour means half off appetizers and some drinks every day until 6:30 and all day on Sunday. Recommended stuff to order: Herb Fries w/ Aioli Sauce: Some of the best fries I've ever had! "D" Burger Sliders: Comes in 4; pretty good, but I do wish they'd toast the bread to make it better. Calamari Fritti: Again, tasty! Moroccan Chicken Brochettes: Alright, but even better with the sauce they offer with it. Mojitos: they have plenty of flavors, but my faves are the Mango Mojito, Strawberry Mojito, Rasberry Champagne Mojito. Stopped here for happy hour (5-6:30) before a Padres game and sat upstairs at a table in the bar. Great atmosphere. Some half price apps and $1 off beers including Leine's Sunset Wheat and Yellow Tail Pale Ale. We dined from the tapas menu, Though not so sure that menu can be characterized as mediterranean, the burger sliders with fries ($3.50) and the mini cubano sandwich ($5) were excellent. The calamari was no slouch but only the cocktail sauce was truly delicious. Very cool place for a cheap happy hour. They also have pool tables. And if you go, look for Brian with a shaved head. I was here on a Friday night for a private party [rehearsal dinner]. Loved the ambiance and the fire place! Comfortable chairs and overall a pretty cool place. But it was quite LOUD. Oh well, we were here for a party, not to study. Food and wine were good. We had a prechosen menu so I would like to come back and see what else they have to offer. Love this place, it's a world away from the Old Spaghetti Factory downstairs. I wish Dussini (the full restaurant) had been able to hang around longer; I'd only eaten there once before it converted back to OSF and really liked the food. But at least the Loft Bar remains. Love the seating area next to the glassed-in fireplace, cozy on those very common overcast San Diego evenings. Ambience is very nice and not obnoxious. The bar food is better than the food downstairs, lol. Make sure you try the lobster mac and cheese. Pool tables are a great deal at $5/hr too, and hardly ever a wait. After getting some good ol comfort food at Brian's 24 just up the street, I came down to Dussini with some friends. I really dig this place. The decor is warm and tasteful. The atmosphere is chill and low key, the drinks are strong, tasty and resonably priced. You can play pool for a super low $10 an hour. This is a nice place to relax and hang out. read more

I really like this place both for the lounge/drinks and the dining room. The lounge is very cool looking, comfy. Drinks are awesome. They have great martinis and caipirinhas. There are pool tables upstairs, which gives you something to do and/or watch while drinking with friends. The food in the dining room was really good too. Presentation is very nice. Friendly staff. Thank goodness the loft bar was kept as Dussini as Old Spaghetti Factory moved back in. I cannot express how much I love their sliders and fries; I feel like we've formed a relationship. My friends and I came after Mardi Gras and were so excited to eat and share this wonderful experience with a couple of friends who have never been before. When we got upstairs it seemed like there was a private party. We saw a waitress who helped us out before - she remembers us as the fry girls. Right when I saw her face I knew something was wrong. "The kitchen is closed," she said - my heart broke. Stupid private party! I was craving those sliders and fries with my whole heart and whole stomach. I must venture back for happy hour another time. Good thing they have lots of options for happy hour. Mon - Fri 4:30p to 6:30p, 10:30p to close and ALL day Sunday. I'm also very happy that they serve three sliders instead of two for the same price! Came here on a Thursday night, it was pretty dead, but the food, the drinks, and the service was anything but. I don't agree with the "Mediterranean" classification though. I used to come here often after Padres games with fellow co-workers and friends. We miss the atmosphere like it used to be with the bar upstairs along with pool tables and a lounge area. Still, we come because it's habit and it's a great location to meet up with everyone for some drinks. The drinks are ALWAYS good. Recently, we went after a game and I have to say, the bartender was not very friendly. As a fellow bartender, she greeted us and did make us drinks that were well mixed and made, but it was obvious we had come an hour or less towards closing and she didn't want us around. She wouldn't smile and treated us as if we were an inconvenience to her as she closed around her. She lost not only weekly Padres fans that spend money elsewhere now after the games, but nice tips from industry professionals. I wish I had remembered her name, but I do not. Great place to people watch - great location! We ate outside & were people watching. The drinks here are amazing!!!! We ordered apps, salads & sandwiches. It was crazy busy, I believe our waitress was in training, so when the manager noticed that we were not waited on yet - he stepped in & helped us out. Our food & drinks were delivered pretty quickly.
