This is a great place. I was actually at the restaurant the same day that the other two star review was left. I was actually in the same group as this Ebenezer person. I don't know what this reviewer is talking about. I think she (I believe it is a she, if I am incorrect I apologize) may have been shunned by the other people in the party and is taking it out on the restaurant. The service was very good, maybe a little slower that normal but this is this is the age of COVID and normal is out the window. The food was outstanding, I had the planked white fish and it was very well prepared. The wine list is quite good for a restaurant of this level. As to the comments about face masks, all the employees were wearing face masks, the tables were separated (not ours because we were a group that came together and requested that our tables be put together) and as far as I could see the restaurant was adhering to the regulations. Very worn and dated; overpriced. No wonder they're empty at 5 pm on Friday in downtown Plymouth. Ew ew. Stench when you walk in; smells old / sour and like vomit, probably from original carpet. Torn fabric in booths. 3/4 of us ordered whitefish. Waitress did t realize our 4th diner didn't order. Waitress Hard to track her down. Whitefish Dry and way over cooked. Hamburger same. Waitress didn't know menu and didn't care " I don't know sorry". So lackluster. I was surprised, they actually have really good food here! I'm not one to ever go to a bar and grill type restaurant because the food is usually poorly cooked and boring. Definitely not the case here. I was eating across the street one day and was smoking and talking to a guy who was swearing by how great the food was. Didn't take his advice that day, but eventually I got around to stopping by. First good sign was that the menu was a one page sheet. I never trust a restaurant that makes a hundred different dishes because its a good sign they're not gonna be very good at any of them. Short menus show confidence in the choices they have. Also our waitress was awesome. I mean she was on it, super attentive without being intrusive, super quick, pleasant, she was good money I'd shout her out if i knew her name lol. I had the house salad. Crisp, fresh greens, lettuce and arugula or spring mix if memory serves, and it was huge. I'm starting to come around to an appreciation for iceberg lettuce in my salad lately lol. Also had the chicken gumbo, it was pretty good, nothing to write home about. For an entree I had the cod and chips, wanted to try the fried grouper but they were out at the time : ( but it was excellent. I mean definitely in the higher ranks of any fish and chips I've ever had as far as that goes. Even the tartar I could tell was housemade. Lightly battered, quickly fried and not over done or greasy. So essentially they have burgers, salads, fish and shrimp, pizza, i believe a couple Italian pasta dishes, a couple pork and beef dishes i think. Good draught beer selection. Prices are pretty reasonable given the quality and area. Entrees start around 14-15 bux. It is a bar but not super loud. There's also an outdoor patio. Pretty big once you get inside. Huge bar. I have no idea why EG Nicks has only a three star rating. They have the best food in downtown Plymouth. I first went here about 10 years ago, moved away for 5 years, and when I came back it hasn't changed at all. It's a time capsule of Plymouth. One of my favorite parts about the restaurant is their bread. I'm always hungry walking into a restaurant and they deliver some of the best breadsticks piping hot to the table. They have diverse menu that can appease the pickiest of eaters. The signature app for me is their pulled pork nachos. Their serving size is huge as it could easily feed 2 people for dinner. For a meal I've gone with Mac n cheese, po boy sandwiches, and their special focused on Cajun. I always have a great time coming to EG Nicks. read more

Update: I've been coming for years. Ive seen the owner drunk in here more times than I can count. Came in last night and sat barside for my usual. The bartender brought over my food and was explaining/asking if everything looks good etc. This drunk man sitting right behind me started yelling like basically right in my ear trying to get the bartenders attention. She acknowledges him and is like one sec lemme finish with my customer. Drunk guy proceeds to grab my shoulder and starts slurring at me. I say firmly, "Don't touch me." And he stopped but asked if I was serious and kept talking about me like I couldn't hear. The bar tender told me that the drunk and disorderly man was actually the owner. So I just boxed up my stuff and left. I wont be back with the consistent price raises and ethics of ownership combined. Update part 2: this child of a man was so bothered by being asked to keep his hands to himself that he found me on social media and messaged me telling me not to come back 0/10 he's lucky he didn't get arrested for drunk in public. read more

We have been to Nicks many times over the years. We went last night 10/19/2023 and ordered one of our favorites, grouper. Rather than a big piece it was long, which was fine except for the fact that it was mushy, the outside was dark brown, but the inside tasted uncooked. Also, the french fries were lumped together. I usually complain to the waiter when I get a bad meal but didn't have time as we were headed to the Penn for the seven o'clock movie. First time at Nicks. First the positives, Really comfortable booth seating back by the bar. Cozy lighting. BEAUTIFUL holiday decorations. Big CLEAN bathroom with amble handicap space. This would be a good place for wheelchair, aisles are wide enough to accomidate a wheelchair. Noise level is GOOD, nice place to meet up and have a conversation, most customers have the look of regulars inside, feels comfortable and welcoming. Now, alas the sticky points. Dishes seem to be of the sort that a lot of butter , cheese and large portions will make up for mediocre cooking. That formula works for some. I had the chicken picante nothing special. Spagetti noodles silghty overdone with pan fried breaded chicken breasts ( cooked well) LOTS of butter and lemon juice on top with capers . Generous serving, but nothing special. Price point is @15.00, no soup or salad or vegetable. Waiter was nice enough but had on very dirty apron and outfit looked like could have used a dryer sheet in the finsh cycle maybe a week ago . I tipped up so that he could go to the laundromat! Coffee , by the cup for $2.00. Brought one cup out and when I asked for a warm up , he left that cup and brought a second cup out. Dinner for 2 was @ 40.00, -2 entrees which were a large beefed up mac and cheese dish and the afore mentioned chicken dish no sides, no salad, no soup and 1 cup of coffee . So bottom line - upscale prices, great atmosphere, Denny's service, food like Macaroni Grill, basically a bar with food. I'd stick to burgers and sandwiches here. Returned to E. G. Nick's after several year absence because I was disappointed with service. Won a gift certificate at a golf outing so said, "Why not." Ordered my usual, planked whitefish and it was just as good as it was years ago before. My wife ordered a Southwest Salad with chicken that was crammed with lettuce, red onion, bacon bits, tomatoes and cucumbers that she couldn't come close to finishing which means I have lunch for tomorrow. I don't know what it is about this place but every meal I have ever eaten in here makes me nauseous within a couple of hours. People love it in town but I just do not. People will invariably drag us here though. Flavors are basic, there is nothing special about the place and I just find it overpriced for the quality. You do not get huge portions or anything and it just is blah, the kind of food you keep eating because your taste buds are hunting for some hint of flavor, surely there must be some flavor in it right? Alas you will not find it. Perhaps that leads to the nausea... Atmosphere is really nice, service always seems fine. It's clean and comfortable. The freebie bread is always fresh and tasty. That is as much praise as I can heap on the place though. So much better to be had in walking distance. read more

2.5 stars, mostly for their amazing bread. Went for a work lunch function. I was nervous because I'd not been here before, and the reviews are hideous. They brought out the bread immediately, which was so dang good. I thought maybe it's not going to be too bad. The bread tricked me! I split Southern Chicken Tenders and Fish and Chips with my friend M. Neither appeared cut and breaded on-site. I had the Mac for my side. Average. M got the fries, which were also just average. They kept bringing more bread, which kept us from revolting. Drink refills were rare. I concur with the 2.5 star score for this restaurant. Hello all! Hey this place has a pretty good menu and the prices aren't awful. The food is pretty good for the most part...but the best thing about it is that they have great outdoor seating for the Summer! I love going there and having a meal and a glass of wine, it's wonderful! They even have Mosquito repellent candles (but don't sit near those,they smell awful!!). So all in all, you'll have fun going in a group and sipping drinks, chatting with your friends and eating some of the Quesadilla's or the Apple Orchard salad "mmmm" very yummy! The baked penne with meatballs is really wonderful too and very "cheezy" if you like cheese! I'd like to add that after a day of shopping around the cute little town of Plymouth, MI; you'll want a nice place to stop for dinner and this could be a good choice. They have much to offer on the menu and even many different varieties of Cultural foods!! There's the "Italian", "Mexican", "American"* (great cheeseburgers) and even some good looking "kiddie meals" for a very cheap price! The ambiance is dark and the staff is very friendly! This is definitely a great choice for the little town Of Plymouth, MI and though I wouldn't call it a "mom 'n pop" restaurant; I would still say it has a great atmosphere for after a trip out with the "girls" or the "guys"! Who knew E.G. Nicks was still in business, talk about childhood memories. Back in the 90s' the West Bloomfield location was known to be one of the best family restaurants around town. My friends and I were pleasantly surprised to find out that the restaurant is still in business. As soon as we found out, we drove straight to E.G. Nicks. The service was top notch. Super friendly and very attentive. We never had to ask the server for anything...refills, water, napkins - the server was a mind reader. Since it's been awhile since our last visit, we decided to order a few things to see if the food is good as we remember. We ordered the rib and shrimp coconut appetizers, both were delicious. They are known for their ribs, and now I remember why. They were super tender and the meat came right off the bone. I ordered the special - Mac and Cheese with Lobster. It was the worst Mac and Cheese I have ever had. It was watery, fishy and had no flavor what so ever. It wasn't cheesy and it was super dry. I told the server and he looked at it and said yeah, that doesn't look good. He quickly brought out a basket of chicken fingers and sweet potato waffle fries, which was good (how can it not be?). My husband ordered the white fish, he enjoyed it. He said there isn't much flavor, but he ordered a side of piccata sauce which he said made the dish. Feels old inside. Menu is unexciting. Food is overpriced and not great (I'd happily pay more if the food was exceptional). The Butternut enchiladas are soggy bean tortillas soaked it what I can only assume is GFS enchilada sauce. Nothing fresh on top other than some lousy avocado slices. I feel bad for their wait staff they are never going to get excellent tips serving food that feels like I'm eating flavorless several day old leftovers. You guys can do better. Your in Plymouth that place should be packed every night. You need a new chef with a fresh menu and you desperately need to refresh the restaurant. Smells like an old cony island inside. Some friends and I ran into "an owner" on saturday March 17th as she was having some kind of mid life crisis party on St. Patty's day. The group I was with was apparently "too loud" and as a result, this "owner" got mad about us being too loud, and interrupted us mid conversation about being noisy. She asked us if we "knew who she was". Well apparently she wasn't shit, because nobody in my group knew who she was. Furthermore, she never told us who exactly she was. Through the grapevine we found out apparently, she married into the family of E.G. Nicks. She really wasn't worth the dirt on our shoes. Upon asking her who she was, she couldn't exactly tell us who. We ended up losing interest in E.G. Nicks due to this "owners" actions and left for another venue where we were happily accommodated. read more

Went in last minute for dinner and drinks. There was a line practically out the front door with the hostess scrambling around not paying attention or addressing anyone in line. We heard someone mention that this place was understaffed, and it appeared that way. Eventually we were seated outside. Our waiter was nice but unexperienced unfortunately, screwed up my mother's order of beer, fries, and failed to change some things to my order as well. All in all he was kind and apologetic, and it was his 4th day so we were relatively understanding. That being said, this place seems very 'all over the place', the music is a bit too loud but the food was pleasant, nothing out of the ordinary though. I have eaten at this restaurant many times and also recommended it to many friends. The planked whitefish is my very favorite as it is always too large to finish, fresh and so tasty with the dutches potatoes and fresh veggies. The dinner salad is so large I was stunned when they brought it the first time. Full of fresh mixed greens and topped with their signature homemade greek dressing! The chicken spanakopita is also a favorite and I usually get 2 meals out of it as it is so large. Mouth watering filling of feta, spinach and seasonings! The coconut shrimp are the best I have had and I love the apricot topping as well. From appetizer to dessert so much to pick from and always great! It's a beautiful restaurant that is always packed and bustling! The outside patio is a new addition and wonderful on a warm day! I should've listened to my instinct. We were looking to venture out to Plymouth as we conquered majority of amazing restaurants in downtown Detroit, Birmingham, and Ferndale. As soon as I walked in to this place with my family we smelled old, moldy smell that reminds you of old carpet. A waiter recommended osso bucco for my husband, rack of baby back for my youngest, salmon for my oldest, and haddock for myself. What a disappointment. Osso bucco was tough (didn't "fall of the bone"), ribs were full of fat and had a bitter, over-cooked taste, salmon was undercooked, and haddock tasted fresh out of freezer. Accompanying vegetables were over cooked (no crunch/ freshness), rice pilaf was so tough it pierced my gum, and chicken gumbo tasted and looked like all leftovers dumped in a pot. Needless to say, we only took few bites and threw our napkins in. Waiter also lacked attentiveness, it took 20 minutes for our bill to arrive upon him clearing the tables. Nasty, nasty, nasty! The food took FOREVER to come out. I ordered a greek salad with salmon and specifically asked for my salmon very well done. The salad comes out with old looking lettuce, overly salty dressing, and cold, sad looking salmon that was definitely NOT well done! I nicely told the waiter and he was so annoyed that he had to take it back, like I truly do not understand why people get mad when they have to do THEIR JOB THAT THEY SIGNED UP FOR? I told him i'd just get something else instead of having them remake it. I went with lamb chops and got a side of sweet potato fries, which I asked to be extra crispy/well done. The fries come out cold, soggy, soft, and gross - took one bite of one and spit it out and left the whole order of fries sitting on the table. Lamb chops were flavorless and burnt so disgustingly bad that they were black. I could only stomach one. Left hungry, annoyed, and unsatisfied. Food is very expensive for the poor quality you get. We also were not given an apology or offered reimbursement for the extreme wait time or terrible food we were given...just a bad attitude from the waiter. What can be improved is making the coleslaw regular coleslaw and not with Blue Cheese as they will NOT give substitutes and not everyone like Blue Cheese so you're stuck with that whether you want it or not!! Wow! Best service ever! We recently came in to celebrate a friend's graduation. Our server/bartender, Nick, really took care of everything. He was personable, professional, and oh so debonair. He made sure that all of our needs (we had a few people who always want things a particular way) were met. Even the picky people were quite pleased. UUUUUCCCCKKKK!! That pretty much says it all. However, as a favor to those who might still wander in to this place, let me elaborate. I've had better food at a hospital and on airplanes. My husband and I are always looking for a new spot. We hadn't tried this place in years... so couldn't remember why we don't eat there. well, it came rushing back. The service was slow, with half the staff (including the manager) standing around the hostess podium for most of the time we were there. The waitstaff will not clear an empty plate if you are not in their section. They walk around with blinders on. With that said, good food can help you overlook poor service. However, there's no chance of that here. I ordered the whitefish, and my husband got the Boston Blue (heavily coated whitefish that is deep fried). They do themselves a disservice by referring to their whitefish as "the best whitefish in lower Michigan," setting themselves up for failure. Honestly, my fish was no covered in paprika (or something like that) and overcooked that if I were blindfolded, I never would have known that I wasn't eating sawdust. The vegetables were nondescript. How do you remove flavor from sauteed veggies? They do it. I had never met a potato I didn't like until I ate here. OUR waitress removed our plates of half eaten dinners (which appeared invisible to those waiters that passed by as our plates sat pushed aside for 10 minutes) whiteout batting an eye. No we don't want doggie bags. I love my pets and wouldn't subject them to this. Maybe the waitress is used to the patrons not eating most of their dinner. Needless to say, it'll take a few more years for us to forget again why we never eat here. read more

It's just ok. They have upgraded the atmosphere a little by adding the outdoor patio, but the food is just still ok. Everyone is always friendly and attentive, and it's sort of a local hangout. I've just had better in Plymouth. I'd agree with Liz, the food is really basic whitebread. Nothing to write home about.
