Delicious lobster. I got the lobster salad, and it was a huge amount of lobster, undressed, on top of a no frills garden salad. My partner had the lobster roll. Hers was lightly dressed with mayo, but not overwhelming. We thought the lobster was as good as any in the area, and the price was slightly better for the amount. The fries were perfectly cooked. we finished off our meals with apple pie slices. They were HUGE. We could have shared easily, but she wanted hers warm and I prefer mine cold. I wasn't so impressed with the pie as I had hoped- the filling was very sweet. But the servers were great, the food came out fast, and we didn't have a wait despite the packed lot. Stopped by here on the way to Bar Harbor. This is small, very unassuming little joint that seems to have quite the following!. I had the fish chowder and lobster roll. The fish chowder was interesting-- it had onions, potatoes, and haddock (I think). It was creamy, but surprisingly light. The lobster roll was meaty (my friend claims there had to be at least one lobster in there, but I dunno), not too jammed pack with mayo (good thing), all wrapped up in a warm toasty buttery roll. It also came with 2 sides -- I got some green beans and fries. Fries were hot, crispy, and salty. Green beans were super cooked down. All in all, it's a diner with some good old fashioned home cooking. I think people mostly come here for the lobster roll. read more

Not being from the area, I went on Yelp and searched places to eat. It popped up and had good reviews so we decided to try it. This place is this tiny shack/hole in the wall place right off 395 (not too far off 95) and the lobster roll I had here was amazing. The waitress was friendly but she has to handle the entire 10 tables (or so) by herself, so don't get crazy with the service comments. The kitchen is also tiny right behind the bar. And the menu has a lot of fried stuff. I just decided to see what the fuss was about with this Lobster Roll. Let me F'n tell you what's going on with this lobster roll. It was Fresh, it wasn't too sweet, it was lightly sauced, and it had no frills. It just tasted like god damn delicious lobster. And I don't even LIKE lobster. Yelp Does It Again! So this is the first place we stop into (for lunch) after entering Maine for a five day vacation. All I did was hit restaurants on Yelp and I'm treated to a 4 star review for Olive Garden (um...really Maine?!? This is the Olive Garden right?!?! The Eagles Nest restaurant is one of my favorite places to come when I'm in Bangor. It's a very small eatery with extremely limited seating. This quaint little dive is perched over the Penobscot River with a great view out the back windows. I come here for one reason and that it the lobster roll. You can order a lobster roll two different ways. First, you can have the meat heated and served on a toasted hotdog bun with drawn butter. I prefer the second method which is cold lobster meat tossed in mayonnaise and served on a toasted hotdog bun. I've heard that they're not serving as much lobster meat on the roll as they used to maybe 5-10 years ago, but as I'm not from the area I can't comment on that. Mmmph this place is awesome. Bf and I stayed in Brewer for a night, and before we drove out to Acadia, we consulted Yelp for some good eats. Eagles Nest had some pretty high reviews, so we decided to go for it. It was great. Literally just a random shack on the road in the middle of a pretty rural, residential area that was such a gem to find. It's essentially a small diner that sits overlooking the river next to it. We got a lobster roll to go which was prepared pretty quickly. Definitely one of the best lobster rolls I've ever had. The lobster portions were extremely generous, the coleslaw was DELICIOUS and the fries were pretty solid as well. It was so simple and so perfectly executed. Lobster was soft and tender, the mayo it was in complemented well too. Price was pretty standard for a lobster roll, but oh god the portions really were amazing. Had a 12 oz burger for $10 including a side that I really wanted to try but the lobster pulled me in. SO good!! The restaurant was almost packed regardless of the horrible weather. We sat by the booth near the window and watched the river flowing and flooding. This would be the manifestation of that fantasy. This is a true Maine experience. The place is run by 3 people who are quintessential Mainiacs. You have the cook, the waitress and the dishwasher. All who look like they could be cast in the next Christopher Guest movie. I had the famous loberster roll ($13.95). It's overflowing with fresh lobster meat and just a hint of mayonaise- it's not drowing in it. It's lobster in its basic form. The all you can eat fish fry ($9.99) also seemed to be a big hit with the crowd that was there and it looked awesome as it went by. The place is very very good. The burgers are huge. One tip the prices on yelp are old. Lobster roll on Yelp is 20.99 but really was 28.99. Now lobster inflation is all over Maine so the price is understandable especially considering these boast as the biggest lobster rolls in the region. There was a lot of meat and my daughter loved it. Saw this place driving from Massachusetts to NB after just having lunch Schooners and made note of the small but full parking lot so four days later on the way back we stopped. As others have said the lobster roll is huge; full of good claw and knuckle meat dressed lightly in mayo. Excellent! We also tried the Lobster stew. This was very good. Also full of the same lobster meat but warmed in a mild milk based broth. Flavorful, simple and generous but the broth could have been more interesting. BTW the onion rings are house made and perfect with the lobster roll and can be substituted for the fries for a small charge. read more

Though I know people LOVE this restaurant due to the good food and prices, I will never go back there as long as I live. I went for breakfast and the place was absolutely filthy. I am not a person who needs my restaurant to look like a disinfected hospital, but this was just terrible. There were bloody Band-Aids on the floor near the servers station and our server was so dirty looking (with the worst breath I've ever smelled) that I had a hard time even eating. They had a bus boy container full of disgusting dirty dishes (with flies all around) right next to our table. Seriously, disgusting. As the food is very good, and prices are reasonable, I might HALF consider order take out, and trying to forget the funk that lingers behind that little door. read more

When you live in Boston, paying under $15 for a lobster roll is simply unheard of. In fact, even the one at Panera (practically a fast food chain, that definitely uses frozen lobster meat - blech) rings up at $20. So, coming here and being stuffed with a fresh, delicious roll was an absolute delight. Someone else in our party got the all-you-can-eat fish fry, which also seemed an excellent deal at $10. The fish comes out piping hot and was totally yummy. I really have no major complaints, but am knocking off 1 star for personal preference - the lobster roll was a little too buttery and mayonnaise-y for my liking. I greatly enjoyed the Eagles Nest. On our way up to Bar Harbor and getting hungry, I turned to my fellow yelpers for advice and saw that this place had fantastic reviews. It's about 10 minutes off of the highway, located overlooking a wide river. It's got a bit of a divey feel to it, and you certainly aren't going for the decor. What was special about this place was the food. Signs on the walls recognizing it as the best place in the area for lobster rolls along with the strong endorsement of the server led me order one. At $17 it was a steal. There must have been 10 lobster claws, served cold on top of a lobster salad in the sandwich. A must try if you are in the area. read more

The Eagles Nest is a super-simple family-run restaurant. It's tiny and sits right beside the road. They have a pretty diverse menu (considering how small it is) but Maine seafood is their specialty. I had the fried clam dinner, and can attest to how fresh their seafood is. My clams were whole belly clams (typical for Maine), lightly breaded, and quickly fried. They weren't greasy, nor did they taste of grease. The French fries were also good, but not particularly remarkable. Overall I enjoyed my meal. However, I thought it was a bit expensive. I don't know how the seafood industry works, but $20 for my 6 ounces of clams and an order of fries seemed a bit high (it also came with cole slaw, but I don't eat mayonnaise). read more
