Came during happy hour and sat at the bar. The bar bartenders were young men who looked like they really enjoyed their job. This was in a not very diverse part of Rhode Island so it took this Midwesterner a minute to adjust. The fresh oysters were divine. It was around 5:00 when I ate and thr oysters still had that fresh saltwater taste. The stuffies were ok and the lemonade cocktail on their summer cocktail list hit all the right spots. Depending on what you prioritize more I would either recommend going during the weekday 4-6 pm or Friday 12-6 pm & sitting in the bar area & get the 1/2 off oysters, apps and pizza if you want the best value or avoid that time frame in entirety if you would prefer better service & ambiance. The deals are hard to pass up, especially for the moderate to good food, but finding a spot may be tough & the service was slower than anticipated with such an influx of people during happy hour. I did thoroughly enjoy the local oysters and the special of swordfish tacos. The side Caesar Salad was huge but average. Super cute vibe with opening walls and outdoor seating. A pretty good amount of parking but it's in like a shopping center type of thing so first come first serve. The service was good. I noticed how busy it was the last time we went during happy hour and how it cleared out as soon as it was over. The items on happy hour are OK but not outstanding. Our service on our last trip was less than stellar. Our server initially was on top of things and then towards the end of our meal she went MIA. After a day of photography, I stopped at East Bay Oyster Bar for dinner. Found it on RESY and decided to try it for the first time. No wait at the bar--bartenders were friendly and quick with service. Ordered a seasonal beer, half a dozen oysters, and shrimp & lobster tacos. Everything was excellent, though a side with the tacos (only two) would've been nice. Finished with the churro cake and ice cream--outstanding, a must-order again! We recently visited for the first time for "Appy Hour" and it did not disappoint! Everything we tried was fantastic. My personal favorite was the street corn pizza and the calamari. Many of the items we ordered were half price for "Appy Hour" which is served in the bar area. It's a nice area with several high tops as well as seating at the actual bar. However, if the area is full, you are out of luck on the "Appy hour" unfortunately. Alexandra P was our server - she is fantastic! Very friendly and honest in her recommendations. She never let our waters sit empty and regularly visited to ensure all was well. Our table (of 4 people) had eight drinks, calamari, fried pickles, buffalo chicken wontons, fish tacos, chicken wings, Cesar salad, a half dozen oysters, pink vodka flatbread, street corn flatbread, fish tacos, the strawberry cream pie, and the churro cake. For the amount of food and drinks we ordered, and with how delicious everything was, $60 per person (before tip) was a bargain! The "flatbreads" were full 12 inch thin crust pizzas for less than $10 each (with "Appy hour" pricing). As mentioned, it was our first visit. Was excited to try this place out based on reviews and recommendations. Was able to get a table for 5 without reservations on a Friday evening which was a plus. Our server was super friendly and helpful. Pros: oysters and shrimp cocktail were fresh and tasty. My friend has the Cajun pasta and it was really good, lots of flavor. The menu is vast and there are options for just about every type of eater. The old bay fries are good. Cons: The lobster roll was just not good. It was lobster placed on the bun and then a mayo aioli heavily poured on top. I have never had a lobster roll like that, ever. It was not good and the amount of aoli on top was overbearing. That being said, making a same day reservation was no problem, and we got a romantic table in their dining room.The ambiance was sophisticated and elegant with a friendly atmosphere. Our waitress was attentive, but we did not feel rushed at all. We enjoyed a few selections from their specials menu. I tried their Rosé All Day cocktail which was refreshing and tasty. There were many other cocktails on their regular and special menu that I'd like to go back to try! Our meals were likewise delicious. I had the bolognese, served with papardalle noodles which I thought was a great choice. My partner had the special Cajun chicken cacio e pepe. I had a bite and the flavor was fantastic. We've been here multiple times. Food and service are always great. Yesterday, the food was insanely phenomenal. We had oysters, buffalo chicken rangoons, and fried Brussel sprouts to start, which were amazing. Then we ordered two entrees off the specials menu, pumpkin ravioli and steak & potatoes. Absolutely delicious!!! My family and I enjoyed dining here for our anniversary dinner and we had a pleasant experience. The place is clean and has a nice ambiance with candlelight on each table. Our server could have been a little more attentive but she did her job and that works for us. The oysters and cocktail shrimp were fresh and sweet. Sigh. I've tried to like this place but I really don't. The food is fair to middling at best; the best thing they have going for them is the half price apps in the afternoon. But it's the rotating cast of community college dropouts who work there who really take the cake. During our last visit, just popping in for a couple of drinks, there was a clear error on our bill -- an extra round charged to us. When I brought it to the bartender's attention, he immediately denied it, but then backed up into "I just got here, I don't know what you ordered." Well, if you don't know, how are you so certain that you're right? After my polite insistence, he told me to "watch your tone" -- although all I was doing was insisting on the truth, not raising my voice or getting belligerent, etc. Hey, buddy, have you heard that the customer is always right? And even if he's not, some deference is owed. (BTW a different, very polite, bartender worked this all out without blinking.) I'll temper this review by first stating that this is my friend group's go to for birthdays, big days, and celebrations. We've had nothing but great nights out with outstanding cocktails and killer food; however that's what made my Father's Day outing with my wife and son so shockingly bad. My wife made reservations for 5pm as a surprise part of my Father's Day Sunday. Arrived on time and we were sat quickly as usual. That's about the last thing that went right with the meal. It took about 20 minutes to get our drinks (a 2 Cokes and a mocktail). Didn't see our server for another 10-15 minutes to put in our order. Irritating but nothing to get upset about. Wife ordered a burger (medium) with roasted sprouts in place of fries, my son got the EBOB shrimp scampi and I ordered the Chipotle meatloaf. Based off of past visits, their meatloaf is insanely good. Order it every time and when we're out with a big group, the guys side of the table is usually just plates of juicy meatloaf sitting on decadent Mac and Cheese. Honestly, a last meal type of delicious. 5 or so minutes after ordering our server came over to let us know that they were out of meatloaf for the day...at 5pm...on Father's Day. Soooo disappointing, but life happens and I ordered the Buffalo/Mozambique Chicken Sandwich as my alternative. It took almost an hour to see our food...a burger, a fried chicken sandwich, and shrimp pasta. We were sat by the open kitchen, and the "show" was not confidence inspiring as only one of the cooks seemed to be doing the job he was meant to and the others were peppering him with questions that would be more at home in a Home Economics class than a decently upscale restaurant. The cook with a clue seemed to be drowning amongst lack of prep ("Are we out of brussel sprouts?"), communication ("Did anyone drop the chicken for that sandwich?"), and knowledge (junior cook holding up a whole pan of pasta with tongs asking if it was done). At a certain point, we were just praying the food would be edible. Prayers were not answered. My wife's burger came out with the bell still on, kindly I would say it was rare. I would've said to throw it back on the grill, but it was closer to being thrown back in the field. My chicken sandwich was served in a burnt bun, breading that was falling off like soggy skin, all the sauces had beaded off and congealed on the tray and accompanied by a pike of "fry chunks" that were shockingly cold, soggy and greasy. I'm not sure how that trifecta was managed but they were the worst fries I've ever been served. My son's scampi looked the best of the three plates, but the pasta was bordering on mushy, way over cooked and the shrimp were cooked to the point that they would have bounced back if thrown against the wall. I do not ever complain at restaurants...EVER. This travesty of a meal was just so awe inspiringly terrible that I had to. After flagging down our server (who was apparently also in charge of talking to everyone in the room except for his tables) and letting him know how disappointed we were he spoke with his supervisor and the 2 worst dishes were taken off the bill. Never saw the manager, I would've assumed they'd have walked across the room to extend an apology, but it did look like they were busy socializing at the bar so I guess they made a judgement call that our table wasn't important enough to warrant their time. I hope that this review reaches the eyes and ears of the people running East Bay and they make an effort to improve the standard of service whether it be a packed Saturday night or just another measly Father's Day outing for a normal family. read more

I made the mistake of returning to the East Bay Oyster Bar in Barrington,RI. A few months ago I ordered out from the restaurant, when I got home and opened my chicken Caesars salad there was basically just two small pieces of chicken sliced in half, the salad in no way had Caesar salad dressing on it. I swore I would never go back. Then this evening I was talked into giving it another shot. I ordered fish tacos for $21 after tax and all I got was two mediocre fish tacos with zero sides (not even rice). Suffice to say I won't be recommending OR going there again. I should add, I'm a distance runner who weighs 148 pounds. I'm very vigilant about my diet and portion sizes. (I prefer small portions) So for Me to complain that there wasn't enough food. East Bay is usually on my favorite spots, however my last 2 visits, I've not been impressed with the food. Service was great, food not good. I ordered differently and was disappointed in the "charred"Gouda on a burger with sloppy Joe sauce that was dry meat...no sauce to it. Burnt cheese with dry meat is all I got. In my 3 or 4 times coming here I've learned to stay away from the daily happy hours. It's only in the bar area and it is usually packed. I normally go after 6 when it ends. This isn't your quiet date night restaurant. It's usually loud and bustling. The service is always hit or miss, especially at the bar. Only once have I ever been asked if i needed something else or if the food is ok. The only star on the menu that I've had is the margarita flatbread. It deserves 5 stars on its own. On my last time here I ordered a special, the fried oysters served in 2 hot dog buns. Supposedly there were 12 oysters for 28 bucks. They were the tiniest and most flavorless oysters I've ever had. All I tasted was the hot dog bun. The fries that accompanied the oysters were limp and mushy, zero crisp to found. Unfortunately the full service restaurant scene is very limited in Barrington. Not like there are many other options in town. read more

I finally made it over to East Bay Oyster Bar last weekend and we had a great experience! We didn't have a reservation so we had to wait a few minutes. I'm removing a star because there were seats at the bar but they said they were reserved, I feel strongly that bars should be available for people to pop in without reservations but that could just be a me thing. Parking was easy, and the bar staff were so lovely and friendly. We grabbed a cocktail while we waited for a table and the spicy margarita was amazing. Our server was so nice and attentive and the food was sooooo good. We had the fried pickles, the scallop tacos, the ahi tuna wontons, and a margarita flatbread. Everything was fantastic. In a nutshell? The drive from Warwick to Barrington, on a late Saturday evening, was worth it. Thsi place scores high on service and ambience, plus quality of food. Our server was very helpful and provided just the right amount of attentiveness. The EB Calamari was tender and seasoned just right. The Fish Taco - Baked w/ chipotle aioli, avocado, cucumber radish & lime-- was a spot on recommendation she gave me. Scrumptious and not heavy. My hubby ordered the Crab Spaghetti which was a winner. I've had good experiences here and not so good experiences here. We keep going back though! So I don't really know what that tells you. The decor is lovely, the location is convenient, and they always have some sort of bargain happening, be it a happy hour or buck a shuck. I think if you go in with an open mind you'll be ok. We've sat at the bar several times and have been pretty satisfied. There were a few times we sat in the restaurant for a nice dinner out, one time my fish was raw, and it wasn't a sushi-grade style of fish. It needed to be cooked. Another time my food was prepared with dairy-based sauce( I have a dairy allergy). I will tell you when the food is right-- it's good! I recommend the fries and fish tacos. The wine selection always seems decent. Every time there has been a problem, they have always been attentive and taken very good care of us, so we will continue to go back. I LOVE the happy hour deal here, which has dollar oysters and a ton of apps for 50% off the regular menu price, so becomes around $7 per appetizer. The apps usually have a few flatbread options, clams, stuffies, bar food and of course the buck a shuck of local tasty oysters. I've personally had good food and service, and considering Barrington doesn't have much in the way of mid-priced restaurant options, I'm actually surprised the current rating here isn't better. Lots of food and beverage options, ample parking, plenty of seating. East Bay Oyster bar is one of the better dinner options in Barrington, hope it sticks around.
