Four stars for the dim sum quality and price. There are plenty of dim sum carts going around on a Saturday and Sunday afternoon (I've been twice so far). Impressed with the variety and quality of food. Everything is piping hot off the steamer and the portions are good too. Shu Mai, ha gao, shrimp or beef rice rolls, chicken feet, spare ribs, tripe, etc... they have it all and more! My parents are super picky and like going here whenever they're in flushing now. Tips are already included so it's a bargain for a group! It was $60 last time I went for a group of 7, and today $77 for another (more hungry, younger) group of 7. On a Saturday, we didn't have to wait for a table (7 people) around 11am. On a Sunday around noon we waited 45 minutes. Hostess only speaks mandarin so learn your numbers ;) read more

DO NOT HOST WEDDINGS HERE. Too bad I can't give 0 stars. I very recently attended an evening wedding and I was angry for the couple. Before the reception ended, the staff was already taking away decorations and starting to clean up. The courses of food were rushed out and the waiters/waitresses piled the food of the previous course onto everyone's plates so the next course could be brought to the table. Rushed and ferocious eating aren't exactly classy at weddings so we all had piles of food mixed together on our plates. Not to mention no one took away empty plates so they were stacked upon each other on the tables. As if this weren't bad enough, several male friends said they saw employees using the bathroom and going back to work without washing their hands. The place is HUGE and has separate parts to the building -- dim sum area (become regular dinner in the evening), buffet area, upper level with more seating and for special banquets/weddings and lower level has some take out shops. There are some better days and horrible days... but mostly it's average. I usually come on special occasions with family for lunch buffet. As typical Asian families, we try to eat our monies worth and only the good stuff. My parents go straight for seafood while us kids go for whatever we like (we didn't perfect our techniques yet) until adulthood. I always enjoy the peking duck station but always wish there was more meat. I've been here many many times for family gatherings; dim sum, birthday luncheons, wedding banquet, post-funeral luncheon reception and just to splurge once in a while. I came here once for my cousin's wedding. He rented out the upper floor for his wedding banquet where there were 12 courses of luscious food. I love this place. Its controlled chaos. I cannot understand how the reviews are so bad. Go for lunch or dinner any day of the week and the place is jam packed. Anytime I am in the area I try to go. They have $2 valet around the corner so you dont have to stress about finding a spot and feeding the meter. Not speaking chinese doesnt really hurt the overall experience. The staff comes by with dozens of options for dim sum from the basics to the exotic. Just point and say yes and they are more than happy to oblige. I think they work on commission per dish they hand out bc they are hard core sellers of every dish. A lil oolong tea, 10-20 dishes of dim sum, a little hot oil, wash it down with a diet coke. There isnt too much to say about East Buffet, its a Flushing staple and everyone knows this place. It used to be great for dining and also the place to go for wedding banquets. It has calmed down lately, so its never packed, maybe just on weekend mornings for dimsum. I go here when I want some roasted meat over rice takeout. They use to be more generous but times have changed. The staff can be rude, maybe its the system, you order on the right, lady gives you receipt, you pay on the left, lady stamps receipt. you pick up on the right after handing the stamped receipt. it seems too much at times. It's been quite a while since I have been here for dim sum. Normally I come here for the hot pot buffet, which is quite nice btw. My parents wanted to come here for dim sum yesterday, and I'm not one to argue especially if it's a place I have not been to in a while. I actually thought they only served regular dishes downstairs and upstairs was hot pot buffet. But nope they have dim sum apparently. We were sat in the back left. The service was terrible and the dim sum carts did not ever make it back there, cause they wanted to stay in the center. Understandable, cause it's the least work possible for the most dim sum sold. When we were able to get dim sum, it was actually not completely terrible. The dim sum shrimp crepes were not so good though, only 2 shrimp in each so you basically get a mouthful of crepe. The worst thing was the dim sum ladies. Oh man they did not want to tell you what they had, they just wanted you to get something or leave them alone. I did like that they had these splash guard things that they had to wear on their faces. Certainly don't want their random saliva flying into my food. They also had lunch special noodles and fried rice that was only $6.95, which is available 11am-4pm. There was maybe 10-15 to choose from that menu. When I saw the Yelp results for this restaurant, I had to write a review. I'm a fan of East. It's one of my go-to restaurants in Queens. It has gotten a raw deal from its customers! I have to admit, patrons need to know that the best eats are on the second floor where they serve Dim Sum. The regular restaurant on the ground floor isn't anything out of the ordinary. While the restaurant is listed online as "East Buffet," it's not really a buffet, but a dim sum palace from 10am-3pm daily with rolling steam tables. There are some cultural considerations. The steam carts guarantee almost no wait time. You just pick out what you want. Sometimes, the female servers can get a bit aggressive, urging you to try something you may not be interested in. Stand firm. But that too is cultural. It helps that I speak two Chinese dialects. The food is awesome. Come for the experience as well as a good meal. This is actually one of my favorite places to eat in Queens. This is one of those large Chinese dining halls used for weddings and such. They have an all-you-can-eat buffet and also dim sum. Cocktail hour wasn't anything special, they had Peking duck, fries, seaweed salad, shrimp cocktail and chicken nuggets. Yes, chicken nuggets. Service was good. The servers were all very prompt. Dinner course was very hefty, there was 12 courses. Suckling pig was nice and crispy. Dogfish soup was alright, it's thickened with cornstarch. There was a baked lobster with cheese. The cheese on the lobster was good, just sucks that the lobster was over cooked. Lobster was tough and chewy. Walnut shrimp was good. House fried rice and E-fun noodles were good, like the way I remember when I was younger. It was a Memorial Day breakfast with family. Memorable was right on!!! Arrived around 10:30am, got seats BUT... Food service carts took a long, long time to come around the tables. Many customers like myself had to go to the window to get plates of food and when the cart ladies were coming out of the doorway. Dim Sum,$3.75 per dish, small, medium, or large-Wow! Some of my friends were craving dim sum last week, and they decided to drag me along, because I've never been there and I usually prefer the dim sum at Lake Pavilion. I'm right to prefer Lake Pavilion. Even by dim sum standards, East Buffet's dim sum ladies pushing the carts are rude as hell and quite impatient. And it wasn't even all that busy either, so I didn't understand the attitude I got from a few of them, like, if you stop their cart, you should already know what you wanna order from that specific cart. UHHH..I don't know about you lady, but I don't have x-ray vision. Food overall was sub par, and the variety sucked. There wasn't much to choose from and after 2pm, it got busy really quickly. I was craving some dimsum and I usually like to go to East Buffet because they have the sliced beef rice crepes (instead of the processed beef rice crepes). I'm not sure but I wasn't thoroughly impressed by their food flavors compared to other restaurants that I've been to recently to fulfill my Chinese food cravings. We ordered 5 dimsum dishes and 2 noodles. Got the shrimp/leek steamed dumplings, roasted duck special dimsum, beef rice crepe, and pepper steak. I would not recommend the pepper steak, it was way too peppery. Recommendations: Get there before 12pm if you're going on the weekends. It gets PACKED and the waiting area gets so loud. We only had 2 people in our party so our wait wasn't too bad but if you have 4 or more people, would recommend going early (or knowing someone that can help you cut the line). I did end up buying some of the chopped meats on the 1st floor to snack on while I waited so I wasn't HANGRY. I felt like the same dimsum ladies kept coming around in my area and it took a really long time (almost to the end of my meal) for the rice crepe lady to get here. The nice thing is that tip and/or service charge is already included in the price of the food so you don't need to give extra tips. If your bill is over $10, they allow you to use credit card, which is nice because a lot of places in Flushing are cash only. They also offer valet parking in the back of the restaurant but usually if you get to Flushing at a decent time you can find free parking on the streets (try Main St or Kissena Blvd) and/or some of the side streets around there. This place was incredible. We came for dinner and ordered a medley of foods. Beef short ribs, steamed eggplant, roasted squab, Peking duck, house fried rice, lobster, bok choy and some Tsing Tao beer. In order from favorite to least it was - Peking duck: best I have EVER had - beef short ribs: juicy, delicious and garlicky - Bok choy: tasty and added some moisture - Squab: tasty and the skin was the best part - Fried Rice: bomb! - Tsing Tao: love a light beer - Eggplant: not my favorite based on texture but flavor was great - Lobster: I don't like having to work that hard to get some food, but the rest of the table liked it. I haven't been back here in years, and I now remember why. There are just better dim sum restaurants in Flushing than East Buffet. Unless you're a huge fan of fried food items, then this would be your place. The restaurant just had fans turned on when the weather was 91 degrees. It is a non-tipping establishment so the servers don't really pay attention to when tea or water needs to be refilled. We ordered the Beef Chow Fun lunch special since the majority of the dim sum items weren't to our liking. Don't get me wrong...we did order the classics: sesame balls, shrimp rolls, and pork and peanut dumplings (Chaozhou Fun Guo), but that was about it. The Beef Chow Fun was burnt and flavorless. The waiter was nice enough to give us a replacement along with the reassurance that he wasn't just gonna give us the same dish back. It was much better the second time around. read more

This is our favorite Cantonese style restaurant for dinner in NYC. The food is amazing. I'm so glad they renovated and the place is now fresh and beautiful. Love the lobster special $10 each. We usually order two plus add noodles under it in Cantonese style (with ground pork, eggs, black beans and scallions). Simply amazing. They also make the best Peking duck. Believe me when I say that they made better Peking duck than any restaurant that we went to in Beijing when we were there last year. Even the fancy highly rated restaurant in Beijing couldn't compare the them and better than our hired a tour guide (that brought us to several) restaurants. Amazing live crabs as well like dungenous crab. If you don't order their Peking duck, just order their roast duck. All the roast meats are made fresh multiple times a day. Love their clams with black bean sauce as well. Great prices and fresh food. My kids keep wanting to go back here and a cannot say no when the food is so good. I honestly do not understand how this restaurant stay in business all these years esp during the pandemic! The elevator is really dirty and gross and smells bad. It has never been cleaned. Several months ago, my family and I came here only because there was an elevator for the wheelchair. The food was ok when you sit inside the restaurant but I would never recommend this place to anyone. This past Monday, I bought a noodle dish. Although it was not busy, I waited more than 20 minutes. I tried to cancel my order but they refused to give me back my money. The staffs were all very very rude and kept giving me dirty looks while I waited and when I left. I had bought the take out order: noodle dish for a family member. My family member just told me today how bad this dish tasted. It cost me about $15.00. I hope the owner reads this review. I think the owner could give a rats ass about the poor reviews. They really do not care about how they treat their customers and their food is truly disgusting!!!! This chinese restaurant is really EVIL!!! We went to this buffet at 12:05 pm today (01/16/2010). When I was eating the chocolate ice cream, a chinaware SPLINTER was in the chocolate ice cream (the ice cream became red later... see my profile picture and the pictures I added) and it cut my tongue and I was bleeding! Nobody (the waiters, waitresses, managers, owners, etc) apologized and the best thing was: they still gave us the check and EXPECTED us to pay!!! Two cops were there and found them really ridiculous!!! I thank God that it didn't happened to my children who had eaten the ice cream first and I didn't swallow that sharp and lethal piece!!! This is essentially the Chinese version of Todai, but it still includes sushi that I think surpasses Todai funny enough. Its literally the same for the abundance of food, for the sub-par service, and the pricey value. The atmosphere like any expensive buffet is crowded, noisy, and plenty of lines. The food on the other hand is delicious in some areas (Peking Duck + Buns, Oysters, Grilled Fish, Soups), satisfactory in some (sushi, cold dishes) and terrible in others (dim sum, desserts). What was by far the most terrible however, was the service. It was rushed, it was rude, and is often times ridiculously cold but "efficient." While it seems like it may be a hit or miss place, it is at least worth trying once. Few Chinese AYCE buffets can serve it up this well and their spacious banquet style halls make this a good spot for wedding receptions (just not mine). Beware of the 15% "service charge" that is added to the bill, that is literally the tip, so don't give anymore than necessary. Edit 03/10/2008: They tend to run various specials now to compensate for the pricey food. The AYCD + Hot Pot + Sushi is no longer happening as far as I know, however, from Mon-Thur the food is 50% off. So instead of the pricey $26 a meal, $13 on a discount should suffice nicely. read more
