I'm kicking myself for not trying Eat during my past trips. I've always seen good reviews and even ate at Chow several times before it closed. We met Chef Natalie when we walked up. We ate inside. The restaurant had a good vibe. We ordered the biscuits and gravy, shrimp and grits with added cheese. I also ordered the cinnamon biscuits with fruit to try out. Coffee was fresh as was the orange juice. The biscuits and gravy really good. The gravy was excellent, fluffy biscuits, and bacon with it. It all tasted really good. The plating was really nice too. The shrimp and grits were off the hook. Creamy grits with cheese and shrimp. The salsa topping combined well with the egg and bacon. Absolutely delicious! The cinnamon biscuits were incredible. I was expecting something sweet and gooey. These were almost French toast like with a little Sugar and lots of cinnamon. The berries and fruit paired very well with the dish. It's been pre-pandemic since I've made my way to Eat. It's always been busy, so needing reservations is nothing new. The staff here is still great - everyone is friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant is clean and they're adhering to all the mew social distancing and cleanliness rules that we're all used to now. We were fortunate to be placed in their relatively new outside terrace seating. It's covered but open air, decorated with lots of neat things, and has propane heaters. It allows for social distancing, but is a neat space. The food is still great with lots to choose from on their menu. I should've tried something new, but stuck with the Shrimp and grits (that comes with over easy eggs and 2 pieces of bacon). Definitely worth checking out! read more

Checked out this spot off of recommendations from some people at the vintage market. Upon entering we were greeted and seated within five minutes. Our server was Carissa and she was super attentive and had a great attitude! She explained the menu and answered all of my questions. I ordered the pan fried pork chops and my husband ordered the hash. Both were amazing! The potatoes were well seasoned and full of flavor as well as the gravy for the pork chops! The only thing I didn't like was that because the kitchen is open style, some of the servers were using the bar to lay there head down on which I find at professional and unsanitary. Besides that, I highly recommend giving this place a chancel food is tasty and the servers are super helpful! read more

Brunch spot with generous portions and classic American options with a twist. I don't think you can make reservations online (I checked on their website), but when we came on a Sunday around 10:30am, we were seated immediately. They're currently open during covid for indoor and outdoor dine-in. The service was friendly and efficient, and the food came out in under 10 min. The food was all delicious - you can't really go wrong with anything on the menu. No modifications for the food, and no alcohol options. Truffled egg sandwich: Simple yet flavorful, the mushrooms, cheese, soft scrambled eggs, and crispy bacon come together in a tantalizing bite on buttery bread. This came with a generous scoop of breakfast potatoes, and honestly, this could easily be split for those with smaller appetites. Chicken fried steak: the steak was very large and nicely fried. This also came with potatoes and a choice of white, wheat, rye, sourdough, or English muffin. Prime rib hash: The prime rib is cut finely but there's a good amount. There's some sort of chili that gave this some nice heat, and you can add some of the hot sauce to bring it up a notch. Comes with a choice of toast and poached egg. Corned beef hash: the corned beef is cut pretty small, but this was a good savory option and good for those who are on the hungrier side. Also comes with poached egg and a sourdough bread. Bathrooms are available inside. Parking is available on the street ($3/hour). During normal times, I'd say you can walk around and take in the cute wall art and Container Park. What a cool spot for Sunday Brunch without Mimosas. Sigh... Good size restaurant and glad we were able to be seated quickly. We had a few different servers but happy for the attentive service. Visited during Super Bowl weekend and it wasn't too crowded. There was road construction nearby, so keep that in mind, but there's parking available in a lot and on the street around the corner. I have to update my review from my first time visiting DTLV because after eating here three consecutive days during Life is Beautiful, I definitely just ordered the wrong things. This time around, every breakfast/ brunch entree we ordered was incredible. A few standouts were the truffle breakfast sandwich, the prime rib hash, the bagel breakfast sandwich and, surprisingly, the side of potato chips (SO addicting). Other brunch places in the area had 1 hour+ long waitlists that weekend, which prompted me to suggest Eat. as an alternative--a total blessing in disguise. Alas I was fooled. ..fooled by pictures and tourist reviews. I've learned reviews in tourist cities like Las Vegas, Orlando and New Orleans can't be trusted. You have to take them with a grain of salt. This is gonna sound elitist, but hey. ..this is a Yelp elite review. lbvs. Some folks just don't know good food. When in these cities, you have to trust the locals. Eat. passes the aesthetic test. The service wasn't welcoming. The food looked good, but lacked flavor. This was a pretty nice place to have breakfast/brunch. I have no complaints with the food at all. It was tasty. I had corned beef and grits. I was so happy to find out they had grits. My boyfriend had a pretty tasty sandwich. We also had the deviled eggs. Our server was a really nice guy and he did check on us. The only thing that threw me off was in the very beginning when I first arrived and checked in for the party of 2, I was told to wait outside of the restaurant since my boyfriend was still paying for the parking ticket across the street. Unfortunately, there was a line of people waiting their individual turn to pay their tickets. I kind of wish that they just sat me down because either way, even if it turned out to just be 1 person, the reservation was still in place for a spot. Either way, I did what they told me because rules are rules, but I just felt like I was getting kicked out, and it gave off a very unwelcoming vibe T-T First impressions were definitely off for us. If you're ever in the area make sure to check Eat. out at the corner of 7th and Carson! Highly recommend to make a reservation especially with the limited spaces available at restaurants due to COVID regulations. They do still accept walk ins, but just expect to wait a bit especially if you're coming in with a large party. Our server was really nice. She took our order right away and I swear we waited no more than 15 minutes and our food came right out. We ordered the short stake golden brown pancakes with fresh fruits, corn beef hash, and biscuits and gravy with a side of chicken sausage. Food was good, still hot when we got it so you know we didn't wait long at all. I'm giving it a 4-star only because the service we received towards the end wasn't the same from when we initially came in. My husband was already done with his food, but my daughter and I were still eating when another server comes by and gives us the check, which my husband took care of right away. However, it seemed like we were being rushed out so that they could take care of the people outside that's waiting to be seated. Not once did that server offer any beverage refill, whether it be my coffee or our waters. She just handed the check assuming we were just ready to get up and go. She goes to the table across from us and offers them a refill, looks back at our table, and then walks away. Okay... now that made me even more frustrated. It would be nice to check on your customers who are there still sitting down to see if they need anything else or have questions, what so ever. I'm not saying that I should be catered to or whatever, but just check on your customers. I saw other tables who were already done with their meals, and did I see them with their check? No. Were they offered refills? Yes, of course they were. I get that there are people who are waiting to be seated and wanting to eat, but don't rush your customers who actually took the time to make a reservation KNOWING what it's like to eat at restaurants with limited seating. So disappointing. New to the neighborhood trying to find "my spot". This is not it. They clearly forgot to put my order in because after reminding them it took 42 minutes. Not a busy day - 11am on a weekday with half tables empty and no one else walked in when we did. Staff was slightly apologetic but didn't offer to comp anything and didn't make a big deal of being so late. Granola bowl was small. Spare rib hash had almost no potatoes, was watery, and on the menu it said sour dough bread but they brought out something like a brioche. We've been to this place a few times, and every time we go, we get consistent service and yummy food. I love how every works together to keep things flowing and get people in and out without feeling rushed, but just in a very convenient way where you never feel like you've been forgotten. We stopped by before heading back to LA from our Vegas getaway. The deviled eggs were good but nothing espectacular. My husband had the prime rib hash and enjoyed it, just said it needed salt. I had the huevos mutilados. The eggs were cooked perfectly but didn't care much for the sauces. I added avocado which was a good idea. The peas and bananas work well with this disk. Unfortunately, my potatoes were hard, not raw, but hard and dry, so wasn't able to enjoy them with the yolk. The staff was attentive. read more

A little overrated based on my first visit. Music was so loud it was hard to hear each other. Ordered the pork chops - almost room temperature, hardly browned and tasted bland other than the black pepper you can see on it. The gravy it came with tasted like cream and mixed with a strong taste of herbs. Disgusting. The potatoes were all pretty hard and over cooked. I asked for sourdough bread and it seemed like I got served frozen Texas toast. Service wasn't good, took so long for someone to take our order and pick up the check. Probably about 15-20 minutes for each. My friends got pancakes and the cinnamon biscuits and said they were good though. I wouldn't come back here when somewhere like Egg works that is also local serves consistently delicious food. From the outside you couldn't tell it was a place that was slammed inside cause it looked dark. You walk in and your are surprised it's so chic and modern and place is full and mellow music in the background, that was about 10:15am. We were seated within the first 2 minutes of stepping in there. Waitress dropped water and menus right away and told us she was coming back to grab our order. She came back with the fresh orange juice I ordered and too our order. Hubby ordered the biscuits and gravy with country gravy and over easy eggs and Apple chicken sausage and I ordered the truffle egg sandwich with wild mushrooms green onions, feta & bacon on ciabatta bread with chive potatoes. The servers were really attentive and kept coming by to check on it on us and giving us the status of our food. We got our food about 45 minutes after we ordered it, there was a delay because of a very very large before us I think it was 30+ Meals. When food came it was flowing and it was all delicious. It is a smaller place that has about 20 tables and max of 76 people. The have 4 waitress and 3 food runners and 3 cooks in the kitchen plus the manger who was everywhere helping everyone. Okay so the food was really good! I ate my entire plate and my friends food was also super tasty! The only reason it's not 5 stars is because they only offer iced coffee or hot coffee. No fun flavors or matcha tea and I feel like a better drink menu is all this needs to be the perfect brunch spot downtown! My husband and I like to patronize black businesses whenever we can, so we decided to check out Eat on a Thursday afternoon. It wasn't too crowded and we were seated right away. Love the decor and art work. Everything looked good on the menu so ordered a lot to try! We started with the deviled eggs. Amazing. I ordered the prime rib hash, my husband ordered the chilaquiles and we split the pancakes. Portions of food were huge. Living in Ohio, we don't get much of the Tex-mex breakfast food so this was a nice change of pace. My favorite parts of the meal were the deviled eggs and pancakes. I got the 2 eggs anyway you want them with cheese etc.The best eggs I've ever tasted in a restaurant setting.. soo cheesy and good.. the orange is freshly squeezed and they even make the coffee themselves.. actually every thing was good even the pancakes not heavy just right. I loved this place and would definitely go back again. The menu is one page so it's not overwhelming. You can tell they put a lot of thought into every single dish they make. You can upgrade your toast to a pancake for only $1 or add on a short stack for $7 and if you go here and don't have a pancake you are missing out. I haven't been to eat in around 3 years. I am happy to report that the quality of food is still has good as it was last time I went. We got seated quickly and our server was friendly. My partner got chilaquiles with a coke. I got the la' kats deviled eggs with a single pancake and a fresher brewed passion fruit ice tea. My partner enjoyed his chilaquiles. The sauce was unique to what I'm use too from at home chilaquiles. I can't pin point what ingredient was prominent to make the difference. Even so, I enjoyed my deviled eggs. I would say this has a more mustard taste but I enjoyed that aspect. The fried outside gave it a crunchy experience with the soft boiled inside of the egg. I feel like the pancakes have shrunk.
