Came for lunch today and waited over 45+ minutes for food, and I politely asked an employee what the ETA on the food was. Before he could answer, another employee (for identification purposes heavyset middle-aged female) interjected and immediately reprimanded us for asking instead of providing an answer. She went on to say that she had warned us about delays and that we had forgotten. She then proceeded to cause a scene in the middle of the restaurant complaining about how she always tells customers and they always forget. We had enough and were now very uncomfortable and asked for the check. The initial employee told us they were plating our food so we decided to stay. After we received the check, the problem employee mocked us verbally as we received the check, jesting that we still didn't receive our food. I would not recommend any restaurant that wants repeat customers have her work at front of house. Disappointed, not returning. read more

This was cute little spot to have breakfast, and I'm glad I found it. The plan was to spend the day in Central Park and we needed somewhere close to sit down and have a satisfying meal before exploring. It wasn't too busy when we entered so we found a table right away. I started off with some nice English Breakfast tea, and ordered the shashuka with pita bread. It was delicious and I liked it was something different than just your standard eggs and toast. It was more than enough food to keep me full for the morning. We had friendly service throughout the meal and the atmosphere was very relaxed and cozy. Definitely something perfect for the morning. I've been coming here on occasion and the food never disappoints along with their drinks. I usually get their Grilled Fish Sandwich with French Fries along with a cup of Iced Vanilla Chai. Always filling and is never a disappointment in taste. Unfortunately the service is lacking as they are not very tentative at all. Whether they are busy or not, they don't really pay attention whether you're ready to place in your order or ready to receive your check. You'd have to constantly wave them down to get their attention if you're lucky to get service which I find annoying. Other than that, I still support this establishment. read more

Grilled fish sandwich: pretty good. Fresh bread, nicely grilled tilapia. It comes with salad or top-notch fries. I'm not a fries person, but they sure know to to make them yummy here. Spicy fish sandwich: kinda boring. The fish was well cooked, but it didn't have much of a taste. There was nothing that would contrast/exalt the flavor of the fish. It comes with fries or salad. I liked the place. Despite the busy hour, they never pressed us to leave, which happens in most brunch places in this neighborhood. They gave us all the time we needed to catch up. Okay food for $14-16 an entree. Omelette's are not their speciality, though they occupy a substantial portion of the menu. The ingredients in each are limited, and mine arrived with a distinctive burnt look and taste. The baguette looks very much store-bought and wonder-bread-esque. The green salad is merely arugula and some lemon-oil dressing. Can I suggest tabbouleh instead? Get their shakshuka or middle eastern breakfast instead. That's their bailey-wick. The wait time was reasonable though uncomfortable because their outdoor attachment is small and both heaters were conspicuously not working. The hinge on the door to the street is also broken, so the door flies wildly and does not close adequately. They have a nice selection of loose leaf teas. The ambience is reasonably cute and British-inspired. Service was polite and efficient. I was relieved to learn that I wasn't the only person who had experienced rude treatment at this restaurant. The manager had been rude and hostile to me on several occasions and I had started to wonder if maybe I had inadvertently said something wrong to her. I continued to stop by as I recognized that she is also the only person serving customers so I gave her the benefit of the doubt, thinking that she was just tired or having a difficult moment. Eventually, she was so rude one day that I simply walked out and never returned. I liked the food but there is no good reason to reward any business that engages in hostile treatment of customers in a consistent manner. The reason I deducted two stars.....the seating. The majority of tables have a bench seat on one side. The bench is too high for the table. Service was decent although not attentive. Our waitress couldn't take our order fast enough, and we barely saw anyone beyond bringing our food. I had the green shakshuka. It was bland. The eggs were grossly overcooked. To make matters worse, the only gluten free option offered was a couple of sad little corn tortilla slices. My dining partner had the pancakes, which were similarly "meh." Hilariously, they arrived with a little container of Kraft syrup. Seriously?
