Excellent Mexican cuisine. Coming from Los Angeles with many superb Mexican restaurants, I had my doubts that there would be great Mexican food in New Hampshire, but I was very wrong. El Centenario's menu is extensive and filled with tasty treats. We had the table side guacamole, chicken enchiladas with salsa verde, carnitas tacos and Baja California fish tacos. All were up to par with Los Angeles preparations and the carnitas were particularly tasty. Thanks to the owners from Puebla Mexico and the friendly staff for a fun and enjoyable evening. We are convinced that we were on a hidden camera show. We ordered waters, right when we got there. We never got those, in 90 minutes. Asked two more times. Ordered additional drinks, after the first round. Asked if they were coming a couple more times. The waiter did tell us that they were ready, after we asked for the check. We declined and asked to pay. Waited 20 minutes for him to pick up the check and finally walked it to the register. Not trying to shit on anyone. I know times are hard. I hope they spend some time, working with the wait staff. I'm giving it two stars because the food was good. But that was a half star dining experience. read more

We were going to get some food from the grocery store to cook out home, but we decided to have an early dinner so as to beat the rush. Our friends here are part time locals and showed us El Centenario, an authentic Mexican restaurant. We had seven people and the place was pretty busy, so we had to wait a little while as expected. They told us the wait would be 15-20 minutes, but it ended up being about 30 because another large party showed up at the same time we were told to come back. We got a table in the corner. This was probably the best place we could get one since it was getting pretty busy and it's always annoying to have to be careful about waitstaff going by, etc., so we were pleased with our seats. The waitresses that helped us were very nice and patient when we ordered in Spanish, some better than others (I actually accidentally ordered in Portuñol), but their English was obviously just as good. There were some enchiladas, some tacos, and some other dishes as well. Everyone seemed satisfied at the end. My brother's order did have some trouble because he asked for three different sauces on it and they only put one originally. However, everyone involved handled it very well. The serving sizes were perfect for most of us. Some got a little more than they could eat in one sitting, but that's to be expected. There were no notable problems with anything other than the one order. Definitely would go back! read more

Unbelievable. We went twice during our family vacation in wolfeboro and I might go back for a weekend trip just to visit this spot! The margs were delish and the food was amazing. There was a great variety, everything was fresh, so many flavors, and a mix of authentic dishes. The staff was also so nice and service was great. Highlights were the flautas, al pastor tacos, and paella. The fried ice cream was a fun experience as well! read more

I decided to have non-mexican at the Mexican place. I had a salad with chicken, cranberries, oranges and apples. The dressing was good and the chicken had a good marinade. The lettuce was shredded for the other meals. The lettuce portion was small but the salad was huge. The apples were slightly browning. The tables were turned over quickly and the staff was constantly running. The kitchen was fast. The fried ice cream did not have as much coating (flakes) as it normally does. I was skeptical when our hosts suggested we get Mexican food in NH, but I was not disappointed! We went to El Centenario at 7 pm on a Friday night and the place was packed. Luckily, my grandma had made a reservation, so we were promptly escorted to a table. Because the place is so small, I would recommend making a reservation prior to visiting. While we were deciding what to order, the waitress provided us with chips and salsa. The salsa had a marinara-sauce-taste to it, and the chips were fresh. Entree prices are a bit pricey, but portions are large. My chicken fajitas came on two plates and a separate steamer for the tortillas! The meat and veggies were well-seasoned and almost perfectly-cooked. The guacamole was fresh and the best I've ever had. The refried beans were authentic and the closest thing I've had to the refried beans I ate while in El Salvador. (I also sampled my grandfather's mole, which was delicious.) Great place for authentic Mexican food in the Winnipesaukee region. Small place and service slow but food was excellent. We had the carnitas tacos, beef burrito, chicken fajitas and tacos de pollo. Good portions and couldn't finish. The chips and salsa is great but table side guacamole lack flavor. Highly recommend but keep in mind only has seating for 25 or so plus 6 at bar. Great Mexican food! This is a small hidden gem with authentic Mexican food and friendly waitstaff. Our waitress was very helpful, My brother asked for chicken as hot as possible and she replied, "I will make you a special Mexican chicken dish but you can't cry!". He loved it, spiciest chicken he's ever had. I am on the other side of the spectrum I prefer mild food. She recommended the enchiladas verde or mole, I had two of each and they were very flavorful possibly the best mole sauce I've had. This was my second time here. Last time a new local insisted she take me to her favorite place. This time I insisted we go there( to make sure it was as good as I remembered). Even better. Staff is fun, on top of things and working non stop. If you don't get there at 5 pm you'll have to wait for an open space until after 7:30. At least. I see why locals don't talk about it. Had the chipotle BBQ ribs( only avail on fri and sat). Fall off the bone, sweet, smoky, heat..amazing. Had the botana, sort of a pu pu platter for Mexican food. Was great. I could eat the nachos all day and night. I already regret writing this as I know it will be harder to get in the next time I come to town. Thank you Patty Roche for introducing me to the best food in town. This place is not about atmosphere although fun,fancy French service, valet parking(5 spaces, get over it... park a block over and walk ya lazy millionaires) or rich tourists idea of a sophisticated dining locale. It's great food, authentic, reasonably priced and nice staff. Reading other reviews, if you are expecting more, go someplace else. I consider myself a Mexican aficionado..... Ok let's just say I love Mexican and I'm picky about it. This place was surprising good. 8 of us ordered take-out and everyone was happy with there choices. I the TACOS DE COCHINITA PIBIL. They were fantastic. There was one glitch though. When we got back home there was only one bad of chips for 3 orders of nachos and 2 orders of guacamole. But when we showed back up at the restaurant to retrieve some more they bent over backwards to make it right. Not only giving us an reasonable amount of chips but throwing in deserts. The food is pretty good but have had better Mexican other places. Some dishes are very good. Doing take out and outdoor seating during COVID. They're filling the restaurant as well but everyone is spaced out considerably. Service just ok, there were not enough waitstaff to take care of all the patrons. Quaint little restaurant with bright, bold colours, numerous tables, authentic Mexican hospital as well as music. fabulous hostess, Maria who is well versed in menu options. Served with complimentary homemade and mouth watering salsa and chips. Chicken fajitas were to die for!!!! Guacamole was delicious and possibly the best I have had, with a hint of cilantro and onion and the Pico de Gallo is fresh and homemade as well. Went to this restaurant 3 years ago. Had a poor experience and hadn't been back til today (Mothers Day) Very strange / poor experience. First, there was one teenage female server/hostess/bartender? Poor girl never had a chance. Secondly, there was only one kitchen staffer/busser. The server, pleasant young lady, couldn't get anything right. Attributing this in large part due to being left alone on restaurant island on one of the busiest days for dining out. Pronounced spilling of water, forgot to bring menus yet asked for our order, etc. Serving cycle completely out of order with other tables sat later, served meals. Being Mothers Day we had children with us and when able to order, we asked for Nachos to feed them first. The Nachos were what finally led us to leave (after paying for drinks & tipping the multitasking young lady) I have eaten in Mexico, San Diego & Southern California and the Southwest plenty of times. This was the first time I have ever seen a order of baked Nachos where a round dinner plate came to the table, heaping with melted cheese, guacamole, assorted greens, on top of (6) chips. When my wife asked the server, the response was "I know, that's how we serve them here" Maybe in 3 more years we will try again... read more

This restaurant was such a treat and a hidden gem. We were there on a quiet night but we have to believe it would be busy on any other night. We ordered the Chile en Nogada and it was simply delightful! Sweet, slightly spicy, textural - all you want in a stuffed chile concoction. One of the best Mexican entrees we've had. We also ordered the enchilada combo and were quickly impressed with the salsa verde enchilada. We moved to the "red" and happily devoured it. The absolute crème was the mole sauce on the third enchilada - spicy yet smooth and satisfying. No doubt one of the best Mexican restaurants we have enjoyed. read more
