El Centenario is not good....it's great. Fresh guacamole that is outstanding, a margarita that put a smile on my face, a second sent me to bed before 10pm. Nice selection of entrees and both that we had were delicious. Great service and a friendly owner. I ordered out take out and got Chimichangas and Enchilchadas. I thought the food was alright, nothing to die for... I was quite disappointed with the chips and salsa, the chips were clearly store bought and not in the slightest bit fresh. They were stale like cardboard. Now I'm not very picky with salsas but the salsa that came with the chips were very bland, nothing special. I am guessing that is also low grade store bought salsa based on the quality. Very enjoyable. We had the tableside guac, enchiladas and tacos (2 each of carne asada and pork carnitas, both excellent). Enjoyed the house margaritas. It isn't cheap, and the service isn't speedy, but we enjoyed it. read more

Awesome food! Not since a trip to Cancun have I had such terrific, authentic Mexican food! You MUST try the Pablanos de Nagado...literally heaven on a plate! Not cheap but worth every penny. My husband and I stopped in and had one of the best Mexican meals ever. The flautas were amazing and delicious (the pork was my favorite) - highly recommended as a starter. My spouse usually orders enchiladas but at the urging of the waitress got the pork carnitas. He was very appreciative - I'm pretty sure if he wasn't already married he would have proposed to her. I got the chicken fajitas and they did not disappoint. Huge serving of savory chicken with peppers and onions to go with usual fajita accompaniments. Very good margaritas as well. Tried to go there for lunch today (Friday July 5 about 1 PM) and ultimately had to leave. We've eaten here once before and I have to say the food is good. But today, there was a single bartender on duty who also was responsible for waiting on all tables in the restaurant as well as all customers at the bar. 3 people at the bar, a party of 5 that arrived just before us and was seated, our party of 3, and a party of 9 seated about 10 minutes after us. Sometimes when it rains it pours, the poor bartender was simply overwhelmed by the timing of guests arriving and bar customers trying to check out. An elderly lady at the bar paid her check, but not until the bartender wrapped her food to go, then she had questions about the bill, and finally after he came back with her change asked the bartender for additional one dollar bills so she could leave a proper tip. All legit requests, but certainly not helpful to anyone sitting at the tables, none of which had been waited on yet. The party of 5 and our party received menus, while the party of 9 rearranged tables to accommodate their seating needs with the help of the bartender. The party of 9 had several small children under the age of 3 that were probably tired, hungry, and uncomfortable (90 degree heat day) and just about all of the kids were crying or wailing loudly. Again, understandable, but had there been more waitstaff present, they probably would have been given water (crayons maybe) or something else to drink and things would have quieted down considerably. I think the parents were doing the best that they could do, but it didn't make for a relaxed dining experience. With menus in hand, we were ready to order both drinks, apps and entrees all at once, as that would save time for both the bartender and us. Unfortunately after about 20 minutes in the restaurant, we still hadn't placed our orders and it was time to go. I do not fault the bartender at all. He was constantly moving and trying to get things done, but there were too many customers for him to handle. However, I have to ask, what was the management thinking on essentially a Friday holiday in a busy tourist area when they only put a single employee on the clock at such a potentially busy time. Surely they should have known better. The customers deserved better and so did the single employee they left out to dry. Disappointing on several levels. read more

My husband and I were up in Wolfeboro on business and found this restaurant on line and decided to try it. It is by far the best Mexican restaurant we have been to in a very long time. The food is wonderful. All, and me an ALL, the food is made from scratch, no cans here. My husband and the three crispy taco plate and I had chile nogada - a pablano stuffed with ground meat and dried fruit in a white creamy sauce. Absolutely wonderful. The guacamole is wonderful and this is from someone who generally likes only avacado no onions, tomatoes etc. I will take the onions and tomatoes in this guacamole anytime. The service was wonderful. The owner even spent time with me explaining the dishes, which is always a plus with me as my great love in life, other than my husband and children, is food, cooking and eating it. I simply do not understand the negative reviews. I can only think that their idea of Mexican foods is Tex-Mex or Americanized Mexican. It truly is a wonderful restaurant. The food, pricing, quality, service, everything is wonderful. We even went back for lunch the next day and brought our clients with us, as they are Mexican food lovers, also. Surprising find tucked off a side street in Wolfeboro. The food is excellent, service prompt, ambiance pleasing, and portions ample . Details: We arrived around 5 and were only the second patrons in the restaurant. However, it filled up rapidly as it neared 6PM and reservations would definitely be suggested if larger than a party of 2. The tortilla chips were fresh and the salsa was excellent. We ordered the freshly made guacamole which was made to perfection. Dinner consisted of chimichangas and fajitas. Both were excellent and huge portions resulting in us taking food home, which is always a nice added bonus. Good Mexican beer selection as well. The waitress was always prompt and courteous even though she was the only waitress outside of the hostess and getting quite busy as the night went along! All in all this was the best Mexican food either of us had eaten outside of being in a southern border state. Absolutely a must return the next time we are in Wolfeboro. read more

We have always enjoyed the delicious food, atmosphere, and service. We were so disappointed in our last visit due to our bartender Aria. We decided to sit at the bar. It took over 20 minutes to finally get a drink and menu. We watched others get service before us that blatantly came in after us. She was slow and very rude. I adore Mexican food. To have a Mexican restaurant right down the road with B-to-B-plus food seems wonderful; however, the owner of this place is so rude and sexist it is not worth going in there. Even getting an "enchilada to go" is risky if you are at all thin skinned. I have female friends who have worked as waitresses all of them could write memoirs filled with details about his treatment towards them that would make your head spin. I have gone in there to sit down probably only five times. Each time, it was an experience worse than the last. That man loathes the ladies. He owner will not look at you or address you directly. He speaks only to one's male counterpart as if your man is your handler. I hate this man, and for this reason: I hate his dumb restaurant. read more

My wife and I were both raised in California, so we might be spoiled. We went here for lunch. Not sure what is up with the chips, but they tasted like over baked multi-grain, definitely not your normal fried corn tortillas. The salsa was out of a can and when I asked for a bottle of hot sauce, the waitress brought me a small bowl with some red sauce. My Chile Relleno was a chile full of beans and cheese and was baked. My wife's chicken was over-cooked with no flavor. Both of the meals were terrible. The side of flour tortillas was the highlight. Place is cute, service was good and quick, food is over-priced. I adore this restaurant starting with the skinny margarita made with fresh lime juice to the michelada my husband ordered and literally every single dish we ate. When I told our server how wonderful everything was she told me it's because "it is made with love." I believe her! I recommend wholeheartedly and we will be back. I always thought this place was overrated but thought I would give it another chance. Now we are definitely done. I feel for the only server/busboy/bartender. There is no chance of a decent meal when you have to everything by yourself. Margaritas too heavy on mix, almost no salt. Food was cold and tasteless. I am a huge fan of authentic Mexican food and this place had it!! I was there this weekend with my boyfriend we were told to check this place out for good mexican. I have had alot of mexican food as it is one of my favorite Cuisines, but I will say this is the best I have had. It was amazing. There homemade salsa and guacomole was ridiculously good. I even asked to speak to the cheif/owner who was such a sweet man. He said he got got all his recipes passed to him from his mothers friends. He travels from Wolfeboro NH to Chelsea MA every Monday to get all his ingredients for the week fresh! I can not wait to be in the area again to eat at this restuarant. read more

Seriously- there must have been a different cook when I had the Chile Relleno. a half of a poblano pepper (half roasted) stuffed with refried beans and a smattering of cheese is what I got. Not stuffed with cheese coated in whipped egg batter and served with a rojo sauce. It was horrible, and the server said that's the way the Chef prepares them and still had to pay for it .
