I have been eating at Marquez since the 1980s. But I mainly go there for their Huevos Rancheros and hand made tortillas. Their sauce is what makes them unparalleled. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Pay attention to the star rating it is the only thing we got to complain about bad service. I came to this restaurant because I wanted authentic mexican quesadillas. My plate was literally trown in the table with a quesadilla. no lettuce and tomato on the side to make it look good. These people should not have a people service businesses. Because it seems they only have an elementary level education. Looking back I think I would have been more satisfied with a quesadilla from Taco Bell it seems they have better service and even if you are only buying a $3 dollar quesadilla they will still treat you with dignity and respect. I live so close to this place and chose to come because it was convenient in terms of location. Not only was waiter jessica rude when I asked what burrito it was on the photo because I wanted to order that one, but she just answered in a smart remark saying "it's a breakfast burrito". Like duh I understand that, but specifically I wanted to know that one. I politely asked her again oh yeah I know but which one is this one. And she just said u can choose whatever meat you want. To which then I again had to be yeah but the one on the photo and she just said "I don't know" and looked away ignoring me and asking everyone else on my table what they wanted. When it came to bringing everyone's dishes out, they didn't bring out mine. Everyone at my table finished eating when then the waiter jessica comes to tell me they gave my order to another table. And that they are gonna start to make it. I then had to say no. Everyone at my table had finished eating and you're telling me I have to wait for my order to be remade then still eat it while everyone is there just staring at me waiting? No. Worst experience ever. And they couldn't even offer a discount on the check for the inconvenience. I definitely would not recommend this place. I dont know where to even began with this place..ive been here a couple of times already and the service is horrible!! good luck anyone welcomeing you or giveing you a table when you walk in..i toll my server if she could clean a table close to the window and she said "why dont you sit over there" she said that while pointing to the back of the restaurant..she took my drink order and took 15min to bring me my beer..when she took the food order it took another 30min for food to arrive not to mention that the order was incorrect!!...the food wasnt really that great and not worth the wait even asking for the check took 15min not mentioning the 10min it took just to get her attention and she still didnt bring it!!!...it got soo frustrating that i just got up to ask for the check my self after chasing the waitress she toll me the total and with a very rude attitude took the money from my hand while she silently charge me(awkward)...this is honestly one of the worst places ive ever eaten before wouldnt recomend it and i dont plan to come back.....forgot to mention that the couple sitting next to me got so fed up asking for things over and over that they just got up and went to ask directly in the kitchen them selfs.. read more

BEST.MENUDO.EVER. Actually, pretty much everything here is great!! The fresh, hand made corn tortillas, the wet burritos, the shrimp cocktails, the carnita plate, and the green salsa is more addicting than crack!!! (from what I've seen on TV and read about crack, you know....) I have been coming here for about 25 years now and the food has been consistently great throughout the years! Help your damn self to cold Mexican or American beers from the wall length cooler, sit back, enjoy your meal. The jukebox plays mostly Mexican music, but they did have one song by the Beatles. Hey Dude, as it was labeled. Not sure I've heard that one. Anyway, do yourself a huge favor and try this place!! It's not easy, but try not not to fill up on the chips and that delicious green salsa before your meal arrives. Afterwards, go get some more beer and hang out and listen to a live band at the Swap Meet down the street!! P.S. The ONLY bad thing I can say about this place is the bathrooms suck. Worst service Everrrrrrrrrr. So, our waitress was new, no problem. Didn't speak English, whatever. Pointed at the menu to tell her what we wanted. I'm not even sure that she got 50% correct. I specifically told 2 other waitresses that we needed stuff because our waitress hadn't come back in 15 minutes. One said, please be patient, she's new. No problem....at first. My food was wrong, my daughters, son's, sister's, & cousin's wasn't even put in. I got tacos (I ordered sopes) my sister got a carne asada plate (she ordered sopes). My were rushed so they were underdone and the meat on one was cold. My son's fish wasn't fully cooked either. My husband had to go get us chile because she disappeared again. So, we asked for 3 separate checks. All bad!! She even came to ask who got what. Then disappeared for 30 minutes. My daughter had to go up and request our bill. Waitress came, she had had them in get pocket this entire time. All wrong. Every single check. We were told to go up to fix them ourselves. Poor cashier guy. He was trying, but couldn't sort out her mess. All while my 8 month old, my sister's 3 month old my cousin's 6 year old and the rest of our party waited another 35-40 minutes. By this time, we are irritated. We ask for a manager. None on site. Wth??? We told him to get someone on the phone. Manager on the phone talks to the waitress first. Then myself, she asks me what happened, I started to explain, she cuts me off by saying, wait a minute. No no no manager lady, it's excuse me, not wait a minute (poor customer service skills) I got snippy after that and she rudely said "oh my God" , twice, so I snapped. She proceeded to tell me that they were going to fix our check and we wouldn't pay for anything we didn't eat....uuuummmmm really??? I guess she thought she was doing us a favor by not charging us for food that we didn't order and didn't accept, oh so nice of her. Btw, all I originally asked for was from them to remove our drinks, not a free meal. So, we tell them to put it on one, we'll pay, we're so tired of waiting. But, they had refused to take the drinks off so my brother got pissed. Said forget it, everyone's in an uproar. He said we're leaving that they are not resolving anything,. They said they were calling the cops (uuummmm we've been trying to pay for 75 minutes now) another poor waitress got caught up in it (not her fault/ but the one who told me to be patient) even though she was the one who called the cops. Anyway, I told her if you can get those bills straight in 2 seconds we'll go back in to pay. She hustled, took a whole $30 off (which Veronica the manager, if that was really her name, could have done 30 minutes ago) oh wait, I forgot the part where our waitress came running out all huffy saying, "forget it I'll pay them bill" which I should have let her but I'm not that mean. We go there at least once a month. Spend about $100 maybe. So, they just lost at least $1200 a year just from us and you better believe that I will tell the several people who I've recommended or that I know love that place, not to go back. What an absolute waste of my time there and writing this when I have an 8 month old sitting here that is more important. But, I wanted to let y'all know. Refills completely out of the question, had to get up to get our own salsa numerous times, server was new which is understandable but the language barrier made it even more complicated, I didn't get her name but the hostess I believe she was was nice as well as the guy at the cashier desk. Unfortunately this was the worst experience I've ever encountered EVER. No manager on duty to make any calls so no one knew anything or could answer any questions, splitting bills was unbelievably hard which shouldn't be being that I've been a server for several years, waited approximately 30 minutes or MORE for our bill which the server had had in her pocket for god only knows how long then having to get bills correct to pay took another hour. I can go on, HORRIBLE. I'm appalled. Lastly, the manager VERONICA was incredibly rude speaking to us on the phone had no customer service skills and did NOT know how to diffuse hostile situations. This is the horrible place I've ever ordered food from. I've order pozole, and a carnitas taco and let me tell you the pozole was grosssssss!!!!!!!! It was like if they added water to it and no flavor at all and I though maybe it was just me so I had my husband try it and he felt so bad cause he knew I was so hungry and I was craving pozole and it turned out horrible it really tasted like water and the taco was so greasy and chunks of meat and the tortilla was gross!!! I told my husband just to leave it alone because I'm the type of person that doesn't like to be mean but you know what I told him to call and they offered him his money back but we are not like that we just wanted to let them know so that way they are aware and try to fix the problem and to let them know they lost a customer because I will never go back to this place!!!! Incredibly disappointed in my experience today, Sept. 4th @ 4pm. The restaurant was not full by any means, but after 40 minutes both our food and our waitress were nowhere to be found. She went MIA when we had the audacity to ask for more chips. When we finally flagged her down we were rudely informed that there were only 2 cooks and she didn't know when our food would be ready. We had another engagement and were unable to continue waiting. We asked to pay for our drinks so we could leave. The manager came out and told us the wait time was our fault because we had ordered a Molcajete and we should've called it in ahead of time. The Molcajete is a menu item and no where on the menu does it warn of a longer wait time, also we have ordered this item many times before without any problems. He then left to the kitchen without helping us and another server tried to help us pay. This server told us our food was given to the wrong table and they had to make it again. So in reality calling ahead would not have helped us. We are reasonable people we understand mistakes happen, but all we were given were excuses and even had the blame placed on us. 1st time here first off the food took for ever to come out, and when it did it was cold. So i USED to go to this place because they DO have really good food, but the people working there are rude and cant seem to take a phone order correctly. Twice before, I ordered a chili relleno burrito (not that complex) and both times they gave me a burrito with nothing but meat inside. im a vegetarian so i dont eat that shit. needless to say, when i called them to let them know they gave me the wrong order, the guy who answered said "oh sorry about that, come back tomorrow because we're kind of busy and we'll give you a free burrito" really? wtf is that shit?! they fuck up your order and ask you to wait a day to get reimbursement? In addition to the great food, it is also family friendly and a very comfortable place to be in. Even though it is a family oriented place, there are also happy hours to watch sports events an enjoy adult beverages. All the decorations in the Marquez restaurant blend well together. The restaurant also has a great friendly atmosphere. This restaurant is very casual so there is no need to get dressed up. Marquez restaurant is family owned and has been since it opened. This restaurant is located on Camenita and Rosecrans, in Norwalk, California. It sits on a small torn up corner, but do not underestimate the location for the fun atmosphere, great food, and service. Also, the Marquez restaurant was featured on a show called Elmer Dills; he was a very famous food critic, and would go to numerous amounts of restaurants and review them. He usually reviewed the quality of the most famous item in a restaurant. When walking into the Marquez restaurant it is very cool and refreshing. After walking in people and/or groups are allowed to seat themselves wherever desired. On the walls there are painting that are based around Mexican tradition and culture. For example, there is pictures of the country Mexico, villas in Mexico, Mexican men and women, as well as the Mexican flag. In the corner of the restaurant there is a twenty to thirty gallon tank filled with tropical fish. There are also televisions placed around the walls with different sports channels on. In addition to the televisions there is also soft Mexican music playing. The tables are also clothed in a Mexican fashion. The cloths are red, green and white with various patterns that simply blend together. The restaurant is very spacious and is not crowded even when every table is occupied. As people have seated themselves the waiters or waitresses assist the table in a timely manner. Each table is served with a fresh basket of warm tortilla chips and salsa. The servers takes orders for drinks; there is also a big clear open fridge where individuals can walk up choose a drink. The drinks consists of beer, wine, soda, coffee, water, juice and cocktails. The waitresses and waiters come by periodically to check on how the food is, refill drinks, and ask if the costumers are satisfied. The food served at Marquez is classic Mexican food; such as, Burritos, wet burritos, tacos, enchiladas, chili verde, and chili reno. Each plate serving is fairly large with a side of beans and rice, so plan to bring home leftovers after the meal. Also being served are children's plates with much smaller servings and different types of food, such as macaroni or a hamburger with fries. The presentation of the food is not all that fancy, but the food does look mighty delicious. The most decoration on a plate is some sauce drizzled around the plate, or cilantro placed around it as well. Not only does the food look delicious; the food taste unlike any other Mexican food restaurant. The burritos burst with flavor and sauce, as well as the tacos filled with meat, sauce onions ,tomatoes, cilantro and lime. Also, individuals have the choice to have sour cream and guacamole added to the meal. If the food taste extremely good, is it expensive? The answer to that question is no. Every entrée is reasonably priced. Burritos will range from three to eight dollars and tacos will cost about the same. No entrée will exceed the price of fifteen dollars. There is exceptions with the pricing of certain meats. Comparing the Marquez restaurant to others; costumers receive a great amount of more food for a lower price. It may not be located in a high class city or location, but it is definitely worth the price and quality of the food. As well as the courtesy of all the employees. The employees always make costumers feel comfortable and make sure the food is what is expected. Overall, the Marquez restaurant is a great place to take a family for a nice and non expensive dinner. This restaurant is definitely the place to go to if you enjoy great quality Mexican food. The Marquez restaurant always provides their costumers with good quality service. Ah-OK! Thats my rating.................. I have always passed by it, but never caught my apetite's attention. Until today, my spouse mentioned "they had really good 'caldos' there". So I busted a "chicano U-turn" and entered the place. It is not the fancies place but it is cozy. Its very spacious inside, with a nice view of their big beverage selection. It kind of reminded me of how restaraunts in mexico have a their big glass fridge doors for everyone to see whats inside. Im very picky when it comes to quality and taste in food. Their "Caldos" (soups= caldo de rez, menudo, pozole) are excellent in taste. Just like mi mama use to make me. Although the food is great, their SERVICE SUCKS! Very un-attentive, our waitress took over 10min to bring back a simple empty glass for my beer. After the food was delivered she never once came back to check up on us to see if we needed anything. Not even our check......we had to get up and walk to the cashier and asked for our bill. I've been to roach coaches with way better customer service. Over all= Their food is excellent and it is great for TAKE OUT and NOT! to dine in. To me SERVICE is 50% of the whole experience, the other 50% is the taste and quality in their food. read more

I've been going to Marquez for several years. Their tripas de leche tacos and barbacoa tacos are the absolute best. The tripas are crispy and not greasy at all. My family member had posole and was disappointed as it was white and not spicy at all. My mom used to make it white when we were kids and didn't eat spicy foods but my family member is not a kid. read more
