Sad to know this place has new owners and new cooks. The food out right is terrible! I have been coming here since I was a kid and it was always so good. Fake cheap tortillas, bland, and the service sucks now. And the prices went sky high. My kids and grandkids have been here to enjoy some good food and now we will have to find a new place. I am so happy this restaurant is between my home and my mothers so always a great place to drop by to either dine in (pre Covid) or pick up! Very nice and accommodating staff, be it the twins making it run around time to a large group needing room to be seated, always warm and welcoming. Food: the best Mexican food focusing lots on my favorite carnitas, be it in a taco, burrito or simple plate with rice beans and piping hot onions. Add salsa, tortilla and a cold beer and it is seventh heaven! My mother had the enchiladas, beef and chicken but said although she enjoyed it, it was a little dry perhaps from take out. Previous tacos were raved about as well as the delicious pork tamales. Oh and I can't forget the always satisfying posole soup with generous garbanzo beans which I love as well as huge chunks of tasty pork. They are consistently good and delicious. Came here with coworkers during our lunch break and it was okay-ish. I'll say that there is a lot of competition because of the surrounding area. A majority of us ordered off their mix and match menu which was a good deal. You pick two items that comes with a side of beans and rice. Don't go to this restaurant they will rip you off! First of all they don't have prices on there menus online and on there paper menu. I asked them what the prices were on certain foods and when I got the bill it was higher on every item not to mention they charge me .50 for cheese in my cheese enchilada. My husband introduced me to Marquez Restaurant over 30 years ago. Ever since he was a teenager he and his family ate the Chile verde burritos from this place. He remembers them being big and super spicy. He told me "It was super spicy but delicious!" He would tell me stories about how it would take him about an hour to finish the burrito. Over the years the size became smaller and the spiciness level was also less. Nevertheless the flavor of the burritos remained very good. Whenever we had family visiting from Mexico and we introduced them to Marquez burritos, they would become big fans of the burritos to the point every time they visit the burritos were on their list of things they wanted to eat. My oldest daughter visited from Guadalajara. On July 19, 2023 my husband made a burrito run per my daughter's request. We all enjoyed them very much. In fact that day the burritos were even tastier and juicier. We all commented how they were special that particular day. Later, we had another daughter visiting from Guadalajara and she also made the same request. She wanted to eat Marquez burritos. Again, my husband made a burrito run on July 31st. He got to the restaurant to find out they were still not opened and that the restaurant changed ownership! Even though they were not open until 10 AM they still helped my husband. The new owners were super nice and they talked about all the plans they had for the restaurant. Unfortunately the food was not good at all. The burritos were bland, the meat was tough, the Chile verde was not tasty and they grilled the burrito which is something we were not used to. We thank the new owners for being so nice and we wish them good luck in their endeavors. As far as we going back to the restaurant... July 31t, 2023 was the last time. read more

You find places like this in the heart of East Los Angeles but now you don't have to make that drive if you are in this area. Minnie is a waitress I highly recommend asking for. She is awesome! I will never go to this cheapo again. They used to have a open salsa bar. They closed it down, and now you have to ask for everything, they even ration peppers & salsa per order. I had to argue with an employee, just to get 2 pcs of jalapeno peppers. Being cheap to your customer is surest way for a resrtaurant to go down.
