I've been coming to this restaurant for 10 years and it's sad to see how the service has gone down. This place is normally great, but one of the girls is extremely stingy with the ingredients when making orders. I ordered a chicken quesadilla (my usual) and, even after asking her to put some more chicken because she put so little to begin with, there was still such little chicken that one of the slices has almost none, and basically no cheese (pics below). This place was an all-time win for Plano West students during off-campus lunch, so to reminisce, I returned after years long ago... They have...grilled fish? Mahi mahi?? Salmon?? Grilled shrimp?? Dang...this place got pinky-up fancy! It's kind of more than I'd like to pay for a burrito, but one day I will try it. Instead, I tried their barbacoa (deviating from my usual chicken). Just like at Qdoba or Chipotle, I just pack in all the veggies, going down the line and just "yes" to everything! But this place LOADS IT UP. They are definitely NOT CHEAPING YOU OUT. MY BURRITO WAS MASSIVE. Honestly, gold star to whomever wraps these things because that is a legit SKILL. Quality, not the best... Lots of food, but I'm not a die-hard fan of the meat. The tortilla is super soft, which is a plus. Their barbacoa was dissatisfying; it tasted like salty BBQ sauce instead of authentic shredded beef soaking in its juices. I really like this place! Yes, it's basically in the same vein as Chipotle/Qdoba/Freebirds, but here are a few reasons why I typically pick El Queso over the rest: 1. The tortillas for the burritos are steamed, not grill pressed, and I LOVE it. Gives it a whole different texture, almost like a giant, Mexican-style spring roll. Very unique and very tasty. 2. The salsas they have are great. The extra hot has a better flavor and a better kick than Chipotle, it doesn't mess around. 3. Free chips with the burrito. A small detail, I know, but I appreciate it. 4. Fast, friendly service. I've never had a bad experience with any of the workers here, they're all very friendly and work fast to get you your food quickly. Better selection and unique flavors put El Queso ahead of the other fast casual Mexican places out there, in my mind. Good food, good price, good people! read more

Just started working in this area and dropped in after running some errands. Place was pretty empty around 11:15. It smelled strongly of charred something when I walked in, however. This made me nervous. Was easy to order, very similar to Chipotle - although the prices are a bit high. I got the steak burrito bowl with rice. It was allright. I wouldn't say it was amazing, but I wouldn't say it was horrible. Got the job done. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back, but it is nice to know it is there in a pinch if I am rushed and just need something simple. read more

The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because I've only had the quesadilla. I told them what I wanted and they piled it on a big tortilla, then they toasted it right in front of me. Think Subway, but instead of a sandwich, you get warm, gooey quesadilla. They also gave me a side of avacado and sour cream for dipping. It's about $6 a person not including drink (similar to Subway). I was stuffed but it was so good I had to finish it. This place was also very clean and cool on a hot day. This place is delicious. They are on-par with Torchies, but cheaper with bigger portions. That makes them win. They have a layout similar to Chipotle or Freebirds but better. They have more options and taste better. Only reason they get a 4 is due to the lack of drink choices. They just have the basics, if you go to Torchies, they have a variety of real sugar soda and a bar. I had 2 mahi tacos, 1 salmon taco and a bowl of queso. All recommended and when I recommend, I recommend that you take my recommendation and recommend my recommendation to your friends to recommend my recommendation. read more

I love this place. The quality of food is amazing, there's lots of great options and pricing is great. However, there is one female employee there who is very rude. Most of the staff I've encountered has been very friendly but this employee clearly does not like her job. I've been there during rushes and also I've been the only person in the business and regardless she does not smile, she is not patient and she acts like customers are a bother to her. She quickly attempts to put items you don't ask for in your bowl and then when you ask for something else she acts very bothered. I've seen her do it to many other customers as well. This is the absolute worst attempt at Mexican food that has ever occurred. It should be mercifully closed. Ordered a steak quesadilla, there were about 8-9 pieces of meat on a very large tortilla. I'm more than a little surprised at how good this place was. It's tucked in next to a Kroger and honestly doesn't look all that appealing, but step inside and sample what they have to offer and you might find yourself going back The place is set out in such a way that you'd think they were a competitor to chipotle, except they have a much larger menu (Quesadilla, Salads, Soups, Fish etc), heck even the chips in their 'chips and salsa' deal are lime flavored but the quality of the food is unbelievably good and their hot sauce is what it should be, hot. I'm really not kidding about the meat. The fish was grilled to order, chicken is moist and has plenty of sauce for flavor, the shredded beef is excellent and has a great flavor. I like sauce. I think it's important because although it can make a taco or a burrito wet it's better than having this dry lump of meat. Similarly it's easy to be too wet, basically making the meat look as though it's a puree. Make no mistake that when I say this has 'sauce' I actually mean that it has really good 'sauce' and not sludge or grease. My only limited negative is that the tortillas are steamed rather than grilled or heated on a hot plate. A little odd when you're not expecting it, although it wasn't unpleasant. Done wrong and they might end up rubbery. Oh, and they serve Dr Pepper if that's your kind of thing. Staff are friendly, prices are insanely cheap and minus the fact that they don't have beer, I'll happily come here instead of Chipotle in future. I always get a burrito with rice and black beans, sour cream, the mild sauce and queso. Killer. Not a bad place as an alternative to Chipotle. I had their new Southwestern Burrito and my wife had the Burrito Bowl. She loved hers much more than I liked mine. The ingredients were very fresh and the quantity was ample too. My wife loved the mango salsa in her burrito bowl. The place is neat and clean, the ambiance is nice. This restaurant is VERY underrated! My fiancée and I tried it for the first time today and the food wasn't the only thing that was amazing. The staff is very, very friendly and eager to take our order. Ordering is very similar to restaurants like Chipotle where you can add things to your leisure. They're about the same price but you get WAY more options! I enjoyed that I was able to get more than just a few things in my burrito (I'm a very picky eater so when I go to Chipotle, I barely add things into my burrito because I don't like their options. But, here there are many options and it's very refreshing.) The size of the burrito we got were very good size and were larger than the burrito you'd get at Chipotle. They also have other menu options such as tacos and quesadillas but since we were first timers we decided to try the burritos. Overall, definitely a five star service. I'm a very shy person and it was easy to talk to the staff and they sounded very happy and friendly. If you've been debating about going here or you often go to Chipotle/Chiloso, you should definitely give it a try! read more

This has been my favorite spot for YEARS. I'm only 22 but think I've been going here since I was like 12. I always get a chicken burrito with mango salsa, corn, onion, fresh jalapeño, southwest sauce, and cheese. Literally nothing better in the world. This place is worth more than 5 stars.
