A standard Mexican restaurant off the busy street in El Segundo. I walked over here from my local gym and stopped by for a meal. A good amount of table seating and you can easy order for takeout. Layout was kind of confusing, the place you can order is a little deep inside and is kind of hidden from view. Food was good and had great portions for the price. Complementary chips and salsa. The restaurant was so cute, nice curb appeal, that's all, my daughter got the last table to sit down comfortably to watch the parade. There were so many good restaurants but none had the canopy over n the sun was very hot yesterday. They didn't have a liquor license so their margaritas were done w wine, NOT BUENO!! lol! I read their history it said they were so successful so they opened 11 restaurants even one in Michoacán where they came from. Who are their clientele? Geez it must be a joke? They were very nice people but you can't eat nice! Lol! I was glad I didn't order 2 entrees, my husband n I shared the chili relleno plus tamale combo, I took a look n was scared it didn't look appetizing it was brown like dirt! I have been to Mexico maybe 100 times ! This tasted worse than the taco trucks. The chicken in the taco my son in law ordered came right out of the can! They didn't have any sauce besides the one kind that came w the chips, El Torito has yummy warm tomatillo , salsa chipotle n habanero. They didn't have any soup. The Chips were hard as a rock, real jaw breakers not crunchy n fresh like in other cantinas. The guacamole was fake, everything was reasonably priced but it was not worth it, I ate 1/2 my chili relleno coz I was hungry n tired after hours watching the parade. Well it served the purpose to watch the rest of the parade other than that just go right next door or the rock n brew right across the street. I was frustrated so I went to Little Saigon to buy take outs, not my lucky days, I bought 2 items n they were not good either! Simple neighborhood Mexican food restaurant that's been in this location for many years. As El Segundo's restaurant scene has gentrified, we can always count on this El Tarasco to provide freshly prepared, tasty, traditional Mexican fare at a fair price with combos being $12-$13. My wife got the pork tamale and beef taco combo. I got the two cheese enchiladas with a beef taco both with rice and beans. Everything is prepared to order and it's served hot and fresh. The salsa isn't hot but still has good flavor. I wish they'd offer a serve yourself chips rounds with a salsa bar. I'd love them to offer a salsa on the sweeter side like Baja Sonora in Long Beach or like Tito's in Culver City. Our servers were friendly and service was excellent...refills were prompt. Never order the carne asada fries. The whole thing was just a plate of melted cheese. The fries were congealed to the cheese. There was not only cheese on top but on the bottom. It was as if they made a burrito with fries and carne asada, but instead of a tortilla, it was just melted cheese all around. The red enchilada sauce was flavorful and had lovely spices. We all agreed the guacamole was delightful! It's hard to find a good veggie burrito, but this one was delicious and huge. We had not been to this location and needed to pick up someone at the airport after so very convenient. Easy parking in El Seg. And free!!! So far I like it. Chips come out and are hot with a great salsa with a nice kick. Check number 2! Cold Tecate in draft with two limes and I'm digging the joint. Ordered guacamole and the carnitas taco. Crispy. It was moist, crispy and huge! Big chunks of meat. Smother that bad boy with guac and eat up!! I've only had their street tacos and they have $2 taco deal on Taco Tuesdays. The meat are big chunky pieces and the tortilla is hot and fresh. They also give free chips and salsa that taste amazing. Great, local, casual, Mexican food place that provides good sized portions and great tasting food. If you're new to the area, when you walk it, you're kind of wondering what to do. Well, just walk on it, find a clean table you like and sit on down. No hostess to go through, find the one you like and take it. They will bring you unbroken, full sized tortilla chips and salsa. I like that you get to break your deep fried tortilla into the chip size of your liking. Also nice that they continue to do that as some Mexican places have either started to charge for chips & salsa or have gone away from it all together. El Tarasco, don't change, please! :) They've recently updated some of the interior. Look at the colorful chairs, they are quite festive. They also have a new cashier booth which must have taken some time to create. I almost always get the burrito. I like the Super Deluxe burrito which comes wet and with guacamole on the side. I always substitute sour cream for the guacamole which is the way I prefer it. I cut the top open and spoon it in so I have some for every bite. Wonderful! But, watch your fingers when they bring your food. Those plates are HOT!!! They take cash or credit, smiles or frowns (not for payment), but I think you'll be smiling when you leave with a full belly without having to leave too much money behind for the privilege. Every day there is a different special on the menu. Thursdays is Carnitas so I obviously chose the Carnitas plate. It comes with carnitas, rice, beans, guacamole, and salsa. The carnitas was decent, although a bit too salty for my taste. The rice was good, but I felt the beans tasted a bit flat. The bf ordered the carne asada plate, which pretty much came with the same thing (rice, beans, guacamole, etc) and I liked the flavoring of the carne asada. Everything tasted good. The portions were huge so there will be leftovers. Service is decent. There's free chips and salsa as you wait for your food to arrive. Credit cards accepted. The Tarasco Burrito with asada is pretty pricey here (almost 12 bucks) and not as good as the one in Tarasco in Manhattan Beach (which is about 8 bucks). My biggest complaint with the burrito was the amount of "juice". I like my meat juicy, but I don't like it when my burrito leaks all over my plate and makes the tortilla super soggy. The steak doesn't taste the same either, not sure what the difference is. Pros: + Complimentary Chips & Salsa + Cool decor Cons: - Flan *Update 1/11/18 Came back and the burrito was as soggy as ever. I was really craving flan and to my surprise it was the only dessert they had! Figured it's got to be decent seeing as it's the only thing on the menu, but it was pretty gross. Solid chili relleno combo. I always pair it with an Orange Bang, which probably sounds gross but it works. Love the basket of unbroken tortilla chips they start you with, and the salsa is fresh and first rate. This is one of several loosely-affiliated El Tarasco locations in the South Bay. My other go-to ET is on Sepulveda at Manchester north of the airport. Both these locations have the same excellent menu of basic SoCal-style Mexican plates. There's an ET on Rosecrans in Manhattan Beach, basically a walk-up counter with a surly staff and, in my opinion, sub-par food. read more

I'm in love with this neighborhood Mexican joint. They have all the classic Mexican cuisine and tastes so delicious every time. I got the tamale with refried beans and Spanish rice. It was some of my favorite mexican food I've ever had! I saved my leftovers and was so excited to eat them the next day. My bf got a shrimp burrito and said he loved it too. We went in a couple times this week & noticed new people again (people quit I get that) but they kept getting our orders wrong, wrong beer, told us they were out of certain dishes (or more like anything) and there wasn't that many people, but we got our order messed up & the usual chips & salsa was missing. Craving Mexican after a day at Manhattan and I remembered going to their other location recommended by a friend a few years back, the filthy-ass one in Manhattan Beach with a cramped counter and a mess of a kitchen. Wanted somewhere to sit peacefully and easily find parking, so opted for this location instead. Parking still not easy or at least I couldnt see any, so used my handicap placard to park across the street in a corner shopping center. Sat outside, tables not clean, filled with food and grease. I asked for a wipe down got it by what looked like the owner. They were understaffed it was him and one waitress, who wasnt particularly welcoming or friendly. Did not check on us one single time the whole meal, refill drinks, etc. I even had to flag her down to get the bill; I went inside and she was eating what must ahve been her lunch break at 4pm. Thats ok but have SOMEONE take her spot amigo. If I didnt go inside and have the owner/manager ring me up probably wouldve waited at least another 30-45 minutes. Asked if they had any shrimp and steak combos, server said fajitas. I ordered 2, then about 5 minutes later changed my mind when I saw another customer served the big red wet burritos so asked if they can change one instead of a fajita order. She informed the cook and they changed the order. About 15 minutes later, got the burrito, and a HUGE plate of fajitas. I said no way this was a 1 person order, literally 2-3 people can eat it. when I went inside to pay, got charged $40 bucks for the fajita plate (each normally 18 to 22 bucks on menu); Im assuming they put 2 orders on one place without informing me, so even though ate most of the food, you gotta tell your patrons. They didnt change or take out a fajita order, they simply put 2 on one plate LMFAO. So in all, ended up paying a hefty 80+ bucks on 2 fajita orders masked as one big one, and a big burrito, and a carnitas taquito appetizer, 3 cokes, tax and tip. Another customer pointed out their bill was wrong too and manager fixed. They arent very careful or transparent with their billing, so be careful and check. Menu is very hard to read and the print is light. Food was about 3.5 stars. The carnitas taquitos isnt rolled up and presented open center and a bit odd...not bad but pass. (C-) The chips in the beginning...salsa is excellent, chips are very big rounds that didnt taste as fresh as should be...no idea why they dont serve regular tortilla chips. (B, salsa saves it) The fajitas doesnt come sizzling and there is a pool of meat and veggie juices at the base. Not very appealing but the meat and shrimp were great, chicken eh, not so much (tasted boiled). No tortillas nothing on the side no sour cream, no guac. smothered in tons of onions and green peppers but lots of meat too must give them that. (B-) The big burrito with carne asada was fantastic (A) huge and very tasty meat. Good luck. wont be back needs better service, and attention to some things that arent correcto. read more

I've come here a number of times over the years. The daily specials can be a good deal, and I particularly enjoy the carnitas on Thursdays. The portions are generally quite generous, and the chips & salsa are also pretty good. The fact that a drink is included with the special makes it a really nice value. Service is usually pretty quick, and they take credit cards. I appreciated the fact that they offer a patio dining option on the sidewalk, though sitting inside can be fun. The parking lot out back can be a little challenging due to the tight space, but I usually have no trouble finding a space on the street. read more
