Chips & Salsa (ig: @cravingswithcat)
Catherine N.

The workers here are the absolute nicest and are so attentive. Love that they start you off with complimentary chips and salsa when you dine in. The portions are large and reasonable pricing. Highly recommend getting carnitas as a protein, delicious flavor and so tender. The restaurant is decorated beautifully and has a cozy feel to it. There's street parking or parking in the back. ig: @cravingswithcat

El Tarasco never disappoints. From the service to the food it's consistently good. I love that they have a daily special including weekends. my husband and daughter had the burrito and it was huge and very filling. It came with a drink for $14.50 it was a great deal. The restaurant is always clean which I can definitely appreciate. In my opinion you can't go wrong with any of the locations.

#17 Ground Beef Taco, Cheese Enchilada, Rice and Beans (Daily Special comes with a Drink)

Been going here for years and I have to say it's the best of all the different El Tarascos in the area that I have tried. They give you complimentary chips and salsa as soon as you sit down. I love their Taco Tuesday special which is 3 Tacos (I get shredded chicken) and a drink. They have good Horchata! On Wednesdays, I get their Tostada and ask for extra Taco Sauce (the red sauce on top); it's the perfect topping and always hits the spot. I just went again today and got their #17 Daily Special. It includes one Taco (I got Ground Beef) with an Enchilada (I usually get Cheese), Beans, Rice, and a drink. So good! Parking is easy and service is quick. Great people and great food!

The carne asada tacos with pico de gallo and Guacamole is the best in town. Service is always good ! And the game is always on! The prices are fair

We have been dining here for quite a few times and the place never ceases to amaze me. The place was well decorated with Tiffany lamps overhead and the food was not only good but priced just right. Three of us went there for a late lunch but even though the place was very busy. Jonathan, the owner, greeted us himself and led us to a wonderful table from carved hardwood. I had the Monday special deluxe wet chicken burrito and Glen had some tacos plus a bottle of Modello cerveza he drunk with a straw. It was altogether one of the best Mexican meal i had in a long while. I strongly recommend this place.

$7 for a small size of guacamole how does that make sense when my burrito was $8?! Loved coming here for years but that's outrageous

Jr. Super Deluxe Burrito

Walking in, the atmosphere reminds me of a Mexican home meets bar. It reminds me of a relaxing Sunday evening, but with a buzz of excitement. Once seated, my waiter provided me their chips and salsa. The salsa is wonderful; sweet, tangy with a light kick. Their chips are small tortilla shells, and have a super satisfying crunch when you crack them to dip into the salsa. I almost finished the whole tray before my entree. I got the junior super deluxe burrito w/ carne asada; their Monday special. It is a huge burrito that has so many ingredients as you eat it; steak, rice, beans, guac, sour cream, etc. While normally difficult to balance, their mole sauce brings everything together. It melds together for this perfect bite. My only problem is that it's too much food: never a real problem. I can only imagine how big their regular super deluxe burrito would be. I would come here again, any day of the week. Clean plate!

I was afraid the food here would be bland, but it was actually very flavorful. I got the super deluxe burrito with carne asada (instead of the usual ground beef) and really loved it. Service was also extremely friendly. Prices are reasonable, too.

1 Chile Relleno 1 Tamale ($10.75)

This is a Mexican place located on the Main Street in El Segundo. The service is a bit on the slower side and the ambiance is pretty casual, but it has a homey feel with reasonable prices. I tried the Jr. Super Deluxe Burrito ($12.50), which is a wet burrito with ground beef, melted cheese, lettuce, rice, beans, guac, and sour cream. The ground beef made the burrito taste pretty salty and oily. I wish there had been more lettuce, guac, and sour cream to help balance it. My friend got the 1 Chile Relleno 1 Tamale special ($10.75) -- the Chile Relleno was solid but the tamale was a bit dry. My favorite part about the food was actually the free chips and salsa since both of them tasted super fresh. I'd probably want to try some of the other Mexican places in the area before coming back here again.

Tostadas they serve when seated

Service was friendly in this cozy little family run restaurant. Bathroom was dirty & needed attention. Jamaica was strange tasting, probably from L.A. water. Chicken torta was okay. The chicken was grilled well & tasty but the chunks were so big that it made it difficult to eat. My husband said his steak tacos were just okay. Prices are good & portions are huge.

As for the food/drinks, the happy hour was such a great deal. We got to try the mushroom choriqueso (which was our favorite item), Al Pastor tacos, taquitos, shrimp ceviche and two Mercado margaritas. All of this for about $70! Everything tasted great and came out super quick too. Service was absolutely amazing. Everyone's always checking up on you, making sure you're doing okay and there was never a time we were waiting on anything too long. (Note: this was on a Saturday at 5pm happy hour during the Brazil game) Definitely would come back!

What makes it worse is that this is not our first time with Mercado. We've been fans since the original location near The Grove and have been coming to this South Bay location for a while. We used to order takeout and dined in regularly and in the past the experience was much better. Unfortunately, that is clearly no longer the case. The service was atrocious from start to finish. We waited far too long for everything, including drinks. A single Tecate took about 30 minutes to arrive, which set the tone for the rest of the night. Nobody checked on us, nobody seemed attentive and we spent way too much of the evening just sitting there waiting. The food was equally bad. The carnitas nachos came out cold. The steak taco was rubbery. The fish tacos were incredibly dry. The birthday fajitas were also dry and underwhelming. For a place at this price point, there is really no excuse for food coming out like this. The overall atmosphere also felt off. What used to feel lively and welcoming now felt neglected and poorly managed. It was especially frustrating because this was supposed to be a birthday dinner and instead it turned into a long, overpriced, disappointing experience. It genuinely breaks my heart to write this because we have a long history with Mercado, but after this visit, we're done. There are too many better options in the South Bay to spend this kind of money on bad food, bad service and an overall miserable experience.

You can eat there, get it to go or have delivery. The place is old, but well maintained and really cute. They make you feel at home there. The service is great. They are fast and your meal is served hot and perfect. It has the best Mexican food in Manhattan beach. Parking can be a bear, but you will fine a spot on the street. You may need to walk uphill a bit. It is right next to the Manhattan Beach Pier and there are great places to walk. The food is amazing. We love all of it, but their enchiladas with rice and beans are the best and they make a great burrito. They also have super guacamole and their beverage selection is great. They do not have a full bar. We love this place.

So like yesterday, I decided to stop by and grab a burrito, but unfortunately, this will be the last time. I usually visit this location with my dad. He's been coming to this location since before I was born and I'm damn near 40. But this time I came alone and the place was packed. They don't have a big seating area. It's like a bar with about four seats to the right and four seat seats to the left so it doesn't accommodate many people, so people order to go. And that was my plan. I walk in and the server (with his chef at and money taped to it) and I grab the same menu. He allows me to have it, and he grabs another and gives it to one of the customers. I say all this to say that he definitely knows exactly when I arrived. However, A white man walks up less than a minute later and for some reason he decides to ask him if he ready to order, as if I'm invisible. This was the second time that this happened to me today and God knows how many times has happened to me in life. So at some point, I just have to stop ignoring the fact that Black people aren't welcome in certain spaces. Maybe we are by law, but not at all met with respect! That is all!
