SO GOOD! Came here for a late lunch and it was great! They have a small parking lot behind the restaurant but it's really hard to get in and out of, it's better to park on main or maybe the parking lot on franklin and richmond. Came at around 1:30 on a Thursday and got seated immediately. Service was friendly, quick, and attentive. Now on to the food, came super hungry and left very satisfied. They brought chips and salsa, and I'm not exaggerating when I say the salsa was the best salsa I've had in a long time. I ordered the shrimp fajita burrito and it was amazing. The shrimp were large, seasoned super well, and the portion of was generous. The burrito itself was massive, but so good I didn't leave anything on the plate. I missed my flight back home to Honolulu on 5/19/19 and had to stay overnight at a nearby hotel. I was hungry and knew I wanted Mexican food. Thank goodness for Uber Eats and the reviews for El Tarasco because it made getting dinner delivered to me a breeze. I think my eyes were hungrier than my stomach, but I didn't care. I ordered 2 carne asada burritos, 1 carnitas taco, and 2 beef taquitos. 5 minutes after placing my order on the Uber Eats app, I realized that I forgot to order a large Horchata! Oh no! Then I realized I couldn't add anything to my order on the app. I call the restaurant directly and told them I forgot to add it to my order and would gladly pay them over the phone with my card because I really wanted a large horchata. Guess what? They said no problem and threw it in for free. Wow, what great customer service! After Uber Eats delivered the food, I took everything up to my hotel room and laid everything out on the table. Wow, everything smelled and looked amazing! They also provided tostadas and salsa. After 18 months of COVID you would think restaurants would have their to-go meals down. But I ordered a Jr. Super Deluxe Burrito and instead of putting the cold sour cream and guacamole in separate containers, they just slopped it on top of the hot burrito -- making for a nasty mess when I got home -- and making it difficult to heat up in the microwave without nuking the sour cream and guac too. The food itself is good, I've been coming here for many many years, it is decent California- Mexican and they give large portions of relatively cheap food. I admit my tastes have grown over the decades, but I still come back for this type of "comfort food" occasionally. This is on my top three WORST NACHOS I've ever had in my life. Worst Nachos! Chips are instantly soggy upon serving. It's sloppy. I had the chicken topping, which was terrible. Tasted like scraps of left over meat from a better dish. No flavor and rubbery texture. They need to improve their meat quality, chip thickness, and consider how messy they are preparing it. Instead of acknowledging their mistake, they refused to provide any solutions. He was told that we would need to reorder and pay again. At this point my sisters drove down to provide the order details and receipt since it was on their phone. They still refused and claimed we had already had our order picked up by a delivery person. They were completely unprofessional. We ended up getting a refund through grubhub, because El Terasco continued to refuse. I came here with some coworkers during lunch. There is a small parking lot in the back. It only has six parking spots (I just checked on Google Maps) because the right side of the parking lot is for the UPS Store. We walked in through the back and sat down. They gave us some chips and salsa. Their chips are homemade and are bigger than your normal chips. They are circular and really thin and you can break them and dip them in salsa. They tasted really good as well. When we ordered, the waitress knew one of my coworker's order and even replied to him (translated from Spanish), "You always order the same thing." I think it's cool that they remember certain customers and even their orders. I ordered the Jr. Super Deluxe Burrito ($10) since I didn't know how big the Jr. burrito was compared to the regular sized one and didn't want to feel too bloated. The burrito was the perfect size for me and it was delicious! It was really filling and I was so full after I finished. My boss recommended the tacos and said that they are really good, so maybe if we ever go back for lunch again, I'll try that. Today, however, which is possibly the first time in 15 years that the manager/owner was not present, I had a terrible experience. I'm seriously starving though, so I go to pull out the hair and get on with my burrito. Only the hair keeps coming. And coming. And friends join it. El Tarasco is a great little hole in the wall text Mex restaurant in El segundo. Dishes range between 10 and 15 dollars per person, but the beers aren't too pricey, and you get free chips and salsa that are unlimited when you sit down. Customer service is really great, and they come and check on you pretty often to see if you need anything.. but there is usually a little bit of a wait for them to bring the check and bring you back your receipt. I almost gave them a five stars for their service, but they deserve a very solid four star. This is definitely my go-to place and also come go for lunch, but be warned the portions are hefty so come with an empty stomach or be ready to take some food home in a box. I've dined here countless times over the years and can't say that I've ever had a bad meal. The selection ranges from tacos and burritos to enchiladas and tostadas, and tamales. They probably have salads but I've never looked. They also cater to strange requests, like the person ordering behind us who just wanted a side of shredded chicken. I remember eating at the El Segundo location in the late 70's, early 80's when I lived in LA. The food was pretty decent but the service was terrible. I'll never forget the first time we went in there to eat and when they brought the food to our table, they literally dropped the plates from about a foot above the table. After hearing how different El Tarasco restaurants can be by location, it seemed a no brainer to try the one in downtown El Segundo. It didn't disappoint. The decor is more classic Mexican restaurant than some which adds to the atmosphere. It seems the portions at this El Tarasco are even bigger than the one near my office. Two tacos literally filled a plate and were too big to pick up and eat because there was so much meat in each one (see pics). The El Tarasco Taco with Carnitas was the best taco. Also good was the regular Carnitas Soft Taco with Guacamole and the Fish Soft Taco with lots of chunks of fish. As with other El Tarasco joints, my favorite part of the meal is the $4 monster mugs of draft beer. We tried Tecate and Dos Equis Amber. The amber was great and the Tecate was off. Stick to the Dos Equis. The only disappointment was the bubbling hot cheese enchilada. It seemed "flat" and really didn't have much kick or taste to it. I'll skip that next time. Service was fine. Pretty much what you would expect from a semi-fast food Mexican place. We found parking on the street right in front so that part was perfect. Overall... I'm a fan. read more

We went last night, sat in their fun makeshift outdoor area, and were so pleased with the service and the value! We had 2 glasses of cabernet (well, they were heavy pours, so let's say 4 glasses), 2 large entrees and glorious chips and salsa, and the total bill was under $30! I was happy to pay more to keep local businesses alfoat during this time, but it seems they are keeping their low prices. So we overtipped and went on our merry way. El Tarasco is just as much L.A. as In-N-Out. Not every location has the same quality of food so beware, each are individually owned. I have tried several El Tarasco's and this one is good to go. The quality of product coming out of the kitchen is insane. I have gone in and ordered just rice & beans, burritos, tacos and everything is simply mouth watering. They bring out chips and salsa for dine in or pack you chips and salsa if it is a to-go order. The prices are very reasonable. Last time I was in this location it was dinner for 3 with a total bill of $22. The restaurant is located next to a Gas Station on the corner of Main & Grand. El Segundo is a hidden gem in Los Angeles and this restaurant is the icing on the cake. If I am away from Los Angeles for any long period of time going to El Tarasco is a must!!!! I have turned several people onto this location and they have raved about it to others so it not just me who thinks this place is incredible. Plenty of street parking is available. During lunch hours the place tends to get quite busy with lots and lots of workers getting a quick bite but totally worth the wait if there is one. I will continue to give this place my business and no other El Tarasco. read more

On the fence so far. I made a phone order for lunch. I've driven by here many times and the other location on Sepulveda, but have never eaten here. Parking is terrible around Main Street. If you find a spot, park there and walk. There is a small lot behind the restaurant, but there are many other shops and restaurants in the area. The gentlemen on the phone seemed a bit hurried. I ordered the #17 lunch combo of an enchilada and taco. It also comes with rice and beans. It's also supposed to come with a drink which I totally forgot about until just this moment. He never gave me a cup or asked what I wanted to drink. I didn't even think to ask him for my beverage. HA. Just my luck. I also ordered a chile relleno on the side which I normally judge a Mexican restaurant by. I was quoted a 10 minute wait over the phone which had me worried about how long the meats are sitting around if they can make your food that fast. The combo is the way to go. I had to specify the meats I wanted in my enchilada and taco as the man on the phone did not ask. I got a chicken enchilada, and a chunk beef taco. The chicken enchilada had a lot of chicken in it. The sauce was tasty as were the rice and beans. The taco was good as well, but it's one of those things you have to eat there. They get soggy rather quickly with all the juices. The chile relleno was terrible. It's basically a chile with a scrambled egg wrapped around it, left to drown in red sauce. Not exactly what I was hoping for. Maybe I can salvage it and make some kind of chilaquiles with it tomorrow for breakfast. If you go, eat there. The food will taste better than taking it to go or having it delivered. Let's set the stage. We met up with my fiance's sister for lunch and weren't sure where to go in the El Segundo area. She lives nearby so we decided that it was best to let her pick. She was craving Mexican and said that this one was of her favorite local spots because of the salsa. I've grown up on the East Coast for most of my life, and as my soon to be in-laws frequently remind me, I'm not accustomed to REAL Mexican. The big differences that they describe is that most of the dishes out here aren't served with sour cream (common to me) and that the salsa is always freshly made. In order to set a standard for comparison, I ordered something that I frequently order back East: cheese enchiladas. They were pretty darn good. However, the stand out option at this place is exactly what my sister-in-law-to-be had said. The salsa here is amazing! The other bonus is that they bring it out to you in a large bowl and are extremely prompt in refilling it along with the tortilla chips. Because let's face it, there is nothing worse than waiting around for more salsa. All three of us were dumping that stuff on our respective lunches and the wait staff didn't seem to blink an eye. To them, that seemed completely normal. The prices are also very reasonable. One of my cohorts had the shrimp burrito (also something you just wouldn't find on the East Coast), and the other had some sort of other meat burrito. I was impressed with the ratio of meat to... well, fillers. A lot of places fill the thing up with lettuce to make it look like a huge burrito when you aren't really getting much of the good stuff. There's about 4 El Tarasco restaurants within a 10 mile radius of each other and I would say this one is probably the 2nd best of them. I think the El Tarasco on the corner of Marine and Inglewood generally loads up a lot more meat on their plates, but this location provides a gracious amount regardless. Items you may want to try: - Taco Salad with Carnitas - Very fresh, tasty and ginormous portions. This can easily be split with 2 people. (You probably do not want to take this home and save it for the next day as the taco shell gets soggy easily). - Tacos - If you order one taco I think they are $2 or $3 each but they come huge with lots of salsa and meat. Do the ghetto taco hack and split the tortilla (which is double layered) into 2 and make 2 tacos. - Daily Special - Always something different and the prices are under $10, comes with a drink. Service here can be tricky during a weekday at around lunch time. Their tables can only fit 4 people and sometimes they are understaffed so if you are coming with a group larger than 4 people prepare to be likely split up. There's no private parking lot, but there is ample parking on the streets or nearby city lots. read more
