We showed up an hour before closing on a Saturday. We looked to be the only customers in the restaurant. The girls in my group ordered a lot of food. A serious lot where their eyes were much bigger than their stomach although some of the food was to go. The waitress did not even flinch. In terms of the food, my spinach enchiladas was good, consistent with the other locations that I have been to so there's a lot to be said about consistency. The girls of course did not finish their food, asked for a box, then changed their mind in taking home the box. While I was waiting for my Uber after closing, the waitress called me back to hand me a credit card from my friend who forgot it with her signed receipt. Tried out this location after the Santa Monica location closed. We were delighted to find our favorite waiter "Alfredo" working this location. He is very personable hardworking and out to please his guests. He is attentive and clearly enjoyed his job. He remembers us by name and our favorit orders and how we like them prepared. The quality of the food at this El Torito in my opinion is superior to the Marina Del Rey and the former Santa Monica location. They have good chef's at the Sherman Oaks location. We had the Salmon Veracruz, Shrimp and Steak fajitas & the Mexican Chicken Cesar salad. Every dish was great. Plenty of food good proportions and not over or under cooked. What a fun place for great drinks and food! Come with family, come with coworkers, bring your friends, or have a great date night. The Hennchata is my go-to, but I also love the margarita flight featuring a variety of delicious sample sips. I tend to sit at the bar. There's plenty of tables indoors and the place is on the quiet side, usually, but the bar gets some activity. There's TVs at the bar. This location is on the corner of Ventura and Van Nuys in Sherman Oaks - same plaza as Gyu Kaku and Dojo Sushi, so parking in the shared plaza is not great. Ordered a Cadillac margarita and a skinny margarita. Decent. Off to a good start. Guacamole made table side. FRESH. Looks amazing. Tastes like almost nothing. We ask for limes and salt and try to doctor it. Fajita salad is lettuce, DRY chicken breast, avocado and colored tortilla strips on top. Unappealing and also tasteless. Service is decent but it can't save the poor food. The execution is poor and there's really no excuse. Hard to give a 2* review, but it's just the truth. Have to be honest. Won't be back. read more

Date: September 3, 2023 Hubs just got back from a trip to Japan for two weeks and was craving Mexican food. The plan wasn't to go here but since we were already walking out to the bank (right next door) we decided to just give this place a shot since we've always wanted to try it anyways. It's fairly busy inside but we were seated within 10 minutes. Love that it's family friendly and that they love recommending their margarita's! Sat down and Marlo our server came and took our drink order while dropping off menus. 1. Carne Asada Burrito - love that it's a big portion. Wish the steaks are as thick as cut a little smaller as they were hard to eat and wish the guac was inside rather than on the plate but overall, very tasty! The sour cream on top as perf but wasn't too big a fan of the sauce on bottom as it was difficult to eat with my babies on hand. 2. Beef Birria tacos - these were really good and juicy! Was sad there was only 3 on the plate! 3. Bean and cheese burrito- the toddler got this one and he had about half! Not too shabby! We had reservations at 7:30pm and she told us that "she'll seat us in a minute" and needless to say the walk-ins were being seated before us. If we didn't approach a waitress, we wouldn't have been seated, as we should've been. It's ashamed that we didn't get her name because she should be acknowledged for being professional/competent and courteous. The "buffet" taco bar, was good. Upon walking in I was hit with a disturbing smell. When I was sat down my server rushed me to order and was overall annoyed and sarcastic even when I was asking questions about the menu. I ordered a shrimp burrito. The sauce was salty and the onions were raw or grilled just translucent which ruined the whole taste. I also asked for an extra corn cake and did receive it. I politely sent it back and asked for the enchiladas with green sauce and told the server she didn't have to bring the extra corn cake and it was okay. Later, I was brought enchiladas with red and green sauce and it was still salty. She still brought me the extra corn cake but this time the corn cake wasn't fully it looked sort or mushy like someone tampered with it. The only positive thing I can say about this establishment was the shrimp was great and the food was hot. Would not recommend, ruined my anniversary date night. read more

My family and I just returned home from eating at the El Torito in Encino on Ventura Blvd. We generally love El Torito. My husband I even had our rehearsal dinner there 30 years ago. However today was such a disappointment, I felt that you needed to be aware of this. We arrived at the restaurant at 2:00. There were two other tables with customers in the dining room. Many servers were setting up for a Holiday Party in the back room. After we were seated, we waited about 10 minutes for someone to take our orders. Our food didn't arrive until after 2:45. We ordered, Chicken Fajitas, A Table Side Fajita Salad and complimentary Nachos (Rams Nachos). The Nachos arrived with a can over them, and when the can was removed, this extremely greasy orange sauce ran over the chips. It was not cheese as we have had in their Nachos from the menu. My husband couldn't even eat it. There really is no excuse for waiting so long for our food. The restaurant was practically empty (two other tables with customers) and only one waitress that was serving all of the tables. The manager looked at our booth from the hostess station numerous times, but no one ever came over and asked us if everything was ok. After we finished our meal, the check didn't arrived for another 20 minutes. Our Waitress did well with so many responsibilities. It isn't fair to her, or to the customers to make us wait. The party in the back was enjoying a buffet meal, which didn't required orders, and many servers were headed back there with alcohol. Those servers should have been allotted to help the waitress in the dining area. El Torito is our go to restaurant. Our children grew up eating there and when they come home, we love going. However, unless the quality of the food and the service change, this too might not be the place we go. read more
