Meeting friends for a casual dinner and needed to have outdoor seating. We decided to give El Torito a try. They have a large tent set up in the parking lot. It was a pretty chilly night but the busboy brought a portable floor heater to set up next to the table. Very good for the person sitting next to the heater. Not so useful for those one chair away. The tables were nicely spaced, so very Covid compliant. The busboy was incredibly attentive and brought a lot of chips and salsa as soon as we sat down. We decided to get an order of guacamole ($12) to go with the chips. MISTAKE. The guacamole was watery and pretty flavorless. I was pretty hungry so I went with the Sizzling Combo ($18.50). It was described as shrimp sautéed with fajita veggies and grilled chicken enchilada on a sizzling skillet. Plus a grilled steak soft taco, frijoles de la olla (retried beans), and warm tortillas. Second MISTAKE!!! There were 8 flavorless shrimp on a bed of fairly raw onion slices (see photo). The skillet wasn't sizzling or even warm. Yes, we were sitting outside on a chilly night which makes it tough to bring out a really sizzzling skillet. But this looked like it was done sizzling long before it was started to be brought out. The refried beans were also flavorless. The steak taco was meh. The chicken enchilada was pretty good, but not good enough to salvage the disappointment with the rest of the meal. On the bright side, my wife got the chili relleno with shrimp, which was excellent. And made it to the table hot. Plus, they had no IPA beer on tap. Still another disappointment. It has been about 3 years since I last visited an El Torito restaurant and unfortunately it will most likely be another 3 years before I go back. The atmosphere and servers are Great! you really get the whole mexican vibe.......it's the food, something has to be done about the food. I'm even wondering if they taste their food before they put it out? I went on Sunday 09/28/2025 for brunch and it was "ALL AWFUL". the menudo had no flavor, tasted like water downed pozole. Their chile rellenos, chili colorado and chili verde was like something out of a can, actually out of a can taste better than this. Don't even get me started on the enchiladas and chillaquiles, not good. Their breakfast sausage and bacon were rubbery and tasted very reheated and old. Today was a big disappointment, the best thing there and the only thing I could manage to swallow was their scrambled plain eggs. I spent $160.00 for 3 people and I will never waste another dime on El Torito, especially the Woodland Hills, Ca. location, NEVER AGAIN! read more

Such a great location smack dab in the middle of Ventura Blvd. El Torito is a trusty fav of mine and I know that I can always get a good meal for a good price when I go here. An added plus is the great service. The last time I went I had the pleasure of being served by Andrea C. She was super friendly and made us feel welcomed during our visit. She anticipated our needs and appeared to take pride in her work. Also, the Manager and the rest of the staff were also quite nice. This was my first time at this particular location but it won't be my last. Only complaint is that the parking lot is a little tight so it can make it difficult to find a spot during the busy weekend hours. read more

This place is FIRE! After a sunny and hot morning at the arcade/mini golf with two active little boys, we were starving. Roberto was an amazing server. He was patient with the kids and kept the chips/salsa and drinks coming. The chicken street tacos were fantastic. The portions were huge! I was surprised to find a small dollop of sweet corn cake on the plate next to the beans. I LOVE sweet corn cake and can't find it very often in Mexican restaurants. We ordered tableside guacamole and Roberto was very nice about how we left out the spicy ingredients for the kids. He then gave us the spicy on the side so we could add them in! We all enjoyed our meals, the guacamole, chips/salsa, and drinks. My favorite food is Mexican food so I will definitely return to El Torito when in the LA area again. Delicioso! read more

FYI there portions are BIG Started off with some margaritas Cadillac, and jalapeño one which was good. Got a order of chicken cheese quesadilla very good not to oily and chicken is chunks not shredded. Order of the side guacamole guy comes by the table and chips it for you option spicy or not really good guacamole. Ordered chicken nachos which was ehh whatever wouldn't have it next time. Ordered ignited fajita comes with chicken, shrimp, and beef with the sides and flour tortilla was really yummy flavorful. Ordered a wet burrito I didn't have it but looked good. Posting this review a little late, but did not want to mis the opportunity to do so. We hosted our baby shower in April at this location and it was by far the best experience we have had. All of the servers down to the managers were all great hostess. The food was delicious and delivered on time not to mention that they made sure everything was located and brought out properly. Its has always been good not much change, But tonight when my check came I did get a tripple A discount, but a surcharge appeared on by bill of $1.00 the hostess told me many people complain, and ask the Manager to remove it! She had explained this is due to the rising labor costs, from what I understand this year there has been no raises for employees. Keep in mind the restaurant when I came in, you could shoot a cannon through it! More employee's then customers! I can see why stop the price gauging, with the BS. explanations that's old stuff!! My bill came to $28.00 for one dinner no drinks. That's not inexpensive!! There food cost for that dinner is around $8.40. Decided to have Mexican dinner after movie night, we arrived and got sat down right away. We were brought complimentary chips and salsa which were great to the taste Shortly afterwards a nice young lady approached us letting us know she had just returned from her break and she would be our server for the night. She was very polite and attentive throughout the entire night making sure we were taken care of. I asked her for tabasco sauce but she informed me they had tapatio but then suggested the spicy red sauce which i fell in love with. This was one of the best services and servers i've had in a long time and for being my first time at this El Torito I can say i was very impressed. My grandfather said the moment a restaurant takes a dip in quality, the restaurant is dead. Unfortunately this is true for this place. I ordered the flaming fajitas which are normally great and I order them every time I visit. After not attending for a while, a buddy and I decided to go to El Torito for the flaming fajitas because I had a craving. Instead of fajitas, I got a sizzling plate full of potatoes and onions with maybe 2.5 pieces of steak strips, maybe 3 tiny (used to be big) shrimp, and a few strips of the chicken. The dish consisted of 60% potatoes and onions. Clearly a way to save some money. The service was unusually mediocre too. The ambiance was too dark too. Maybe to keep you from noticing that you're being fed potatoes and not steak? Unfortunately, I will not be returning. Good luck! read more

Original Review: Found a hair or two in the salsa while scooping up some salsa on my chips.  Gross.  The food overall was good, but that was so off putting.  They discounted the food 25% for the nasty encounters The waiter said he saw them trash all of the salsa after the find.
