I have, in the past, been refused service by this restaurant for to-go orders. Sometimes they are listed as "closed" on Door Dash while the store is actually open. It seems as though they consider to-go customers to be less important than others, all customers should be given equal service. Most recently, I placed a Door Dash order, and they canceled it nearly 10 minutes after it was supposed to have been delivered, not only forcing me to wait even longer to have a meal, but also the DD driver went to their restaurant for nothing. read more

As much as I'm a fan of the cool, new, exotic, hip, (and all that), I'm also down with good ol' fashioned family fun style meal. Elmer's delivers on that! We have began to frequent Elmer's on the occasional weekend with our kid's and can attest to always having solid service and good food. There are times when it is "slightly" better than other times, but honestly, it's really good comfort food for what you pay, and the staff are always on their game. I like to order Veggie Benedict, which is always tasty, and my kids end up with some type of crazy sugary pancake thing off the kids menu. We took my parents here for breakfast during our overnight stay in Medford. This restaraunt was closed by our motel. Pros: The restaraunt is in great location closed by the hotels and motels and shopping center. The food was decent. My mom wanted soup but it wasn't ready yet so she ordered blueberry pancakes. The pancakes were huge and came with two eggs and chicken sausages on the side. My husband and I tried the german pancake since we have never had it before. The german pancake was also huge. We don't eat pork so we were happy that this restaraunt offers chicken sausages. Our waitress was very nice and friendly. She came to check in on us several times. Well that was a disappointment. For dinner: my family has very much enjoyed Elmer's Grants Pass for breakfast. One of our go to breakfast restaurants. We had never eaten at Elmer's in Medford or had dinner though. The waitress was great. Pleasant and attentive but the food was not so nice. My spouse had a burger and I had the chicken fried steak. The burger was overcooked and dry (perhaps precooked). The steak was definitely very done but it's chicken fried so maybe unfair. The gravy, though, was so salty I could barely eat it. Maybe I'm alone here but I either want my veggies served raw with a side of ranch (a crudités if you will) or crisp tender. Crisp tender means lightly cooked not just wilted. It was a generous helping of broccoli and carrots, slightly warm but essentially raw. Curiously, without salt but loaded with pepper. Tasted like the vegetables had been around a while too. The ambiance was dim and quite cool. We were disappointed that there were only 3 or 4 dinner entrée choices. I guess we had never looked at anything but breakfast. I do recommend Elmer's for breakfast. It's what they are good at doing but we won't be going back for dinner. read more

I passed through Medford on business and thought I would try Elmer's. I usually like small non-chain restaurants and this was no exception, they were fantastic! My brother and I stopped for breakfast, he had waffle and eggs, he said he should have ordered three eggs but everything tasted good, I had the stuffed hash browns with country gravy, this dish is fantastic, and is in a large skillet plate, hash browns, eggs, cheese, sausage, covered with country gravy, comes with a biscuit, we both liked there coffee and waitress was there for our refills. We where seated quickly and the waitress timing was perfect, which I could remember her name. I'm not sure what the malfunction was today but wow. So its want busy but yes after New year's eve so maybe short staff hit the first waiter older man was an terrible he got our drinks as he rushed away my husband asked for straws and he tossed them a table away racing away, we waited another 20 minutes for a nice lady to take our order. Our food was eh, semi warm but and we wait a while to get it after our order. Elmers restaurant hasn't been a great experience the previous times we have tried it. Oh my god. Oh my god. I came here for dinner after a long drive. It was near my hotel, and it was open, which was really all that I was looking for. I should have set my sights higher, or just went to McDonald's. McD's would have tasted better. If cleanliness is next to godliness, then Elmer must be in one of the deepest circles of hell. The carpet had black splotches all over it. There was food all over the floor -- fries, mashed potatoes, bread, gravy. I was lucky enough to be seated at the table next to the kitchen, and the same standards of non-cleaning were applied in there as well. The counters in the kitchen were crusted with dried food. When a waitress spilled a soda on the counter and floor, no attempt was made to wipe it up. And the food ... oh, the food. Someone else called it bland in their review, but that's giving it too much credit. Bland is something that this food could only aspire to. I tried to add salt and pepper in an attempt to give it some flavor, but the food somehow managed to shake off my attempts. I think I could have upended the whole salt shaker onto my plate and not had it make a difference. Of course, I was the youngest patron in the restaurant by a good 40 years, so perhaps old people aren't looking for food that is edible and served on clean plates. read more

Do yourself a favor if you're from out of town and are looking for a place to eat -- just head down to Ashland, or keep on driving up to Eugene. As a couple of previous reviewers mentioned, bland doesn't even begin to describe the food here. You could empty out your salt & pepper shakers and the food would still taste like moist, damp cardboard. I've often said that breakfast is a tough meal to screw up, since it consists largely of staple foods. Somehow, Elmer's manages to do even that. Hash browns are totally limp and flavorless. Gravy tastes like the roux was made from Elmer's glue, and not anything edible. There's a dearth of good food in Medford and southern Oregon in general. Knowing how packed out places such as this get, that's no surprise. Giving a 2nd star because the decision on my part to come here for dinner is my fault. I've been here for breakfast and its fine. My husband and I were on a road trip and needed a quick dinner. I got chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and "vegetables." Oh my word. The side veggie was a pile of what used to be broccoli. I wasn't expecting much but it was quite literally the most disgusting and inedible side dish I've ever been served. It had freezer burn. It was white-ish. It was atrocious. I know you don't go to places like Elmer's to eat vegetables but I can't believe this was served to me. Also my side salad had mushy overly ripe tomatoes and the lettuce was something I would have thrown away, getting slimy and all that. This place hasn't changed in at least 25 years. It's not the greatest, but they offer a single menu item I can't find at home: Dutch-oven pancakes (also known as "german pancakes"). As a disclaimer, the food my sister and I had was very good. She was very happy with the triple berry crepes, and her bloody mary that she drank at 10am, was very satisfactory. I had an omelete that was made of eggs and something else. It was pretty good. I've had better. The service was embarassing. We recycled through 4 different staff members in the first 20 minutes we waited for our food. We were told that another staff member was going to be helping us, and it was 10 minutes later when said staff member showed up to take our order. He was nice or whatever, but rushed through our food order. Several employees walked past our table while I had an empty ice tea glass, and finally my sister flagged down what appeared to be the manager who promptly filled my iced tea. I was quite hungover, so I needed my ice tea. It was disappointing because the last time my sister was here to visit, both the service and food was excellent. I beleive she also ordered a bloody mary earlier then a normal person would the last she was down here. I am sure her alcoholism didn't affect the way she viewed the help staff. I made a rude comment about the managers jacket. He immediately took it off. What a tool. But my ice tea was never empty. read more

Elmer's restaurants can be hit or miss. The Medford location is decent, but nothing spectacular. They are often very busy at peak meal times and the waitstaff, as others have noted, are overworked and cannot keep up with the demand. Outside of peak times they do a good job. Breakfast at Elmer's is good, but again, nothing spectacular. Nice portions, reasonable taste. For lunch I like to get the french dip, with swiss cheese and a cup of Ivar's clam chowder. I usually eat half the sandwich and take the rest home, as the portion is more than enough. The salads on the menu always look better than what you actually get. Like many restaurants these days Elmer's uses the prepackaged ice berg salad mix with dried out carrot matchsticks and a sprinkling of purple cabbage. If you know this going in then you aren't disappointed, but if you are looking for a nice fresh salad you will be. Elmer's has a lot to choose from, their prices are average, and the food is as well. I think if you go to Elmer's knowing what to expect it is fine, if you are looking for a fabulous meal, well you are likely to be disappointed. read more

It was nice pit stop for breakfast. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The food came out hot and was 'tasty'. The German pancake was delicious and my wife couldn't finish it. My steak was perfectly cooked but had a little too much 'gristle' than I would like but otherwise was just cooked right. Our water and coffee was always filled, 'kudos' to the staff. The waitress had to take a break but informed us that her 'help' would cater to our needs. It was a good hand-off. I would definitely come back again to this diner. It's been a couple years since I visited another Elmer's. Therefore the food and service hasn't waned. The food and service was better than Black Bear diner in the same area. She heard me say how cold I was and offered to move us to the table by the fireplace. I declined and she hurriedly went for a cup of hot coffee for me. Everybody who works here is so nice! The food came out quickly. Our flatiron steaks were a perfect Medium-Rare. And, our waitress checked back to make sure they were and to see if we needed anything. Elmer's, you did not disappoint! I hadn't been to you since early childhood (when I would order a giant stack of buttermilk pancakes while my dad blearily wiped the sleep from his eyes as we got ready to head to the airport for super early flights)... I'm much older now, and I suppose you are, too, but your fare is more than fair to this day (and only getting better, it seems). First, I would like you to know that you took my eggs benedict virginity. That avocado benedict was... Absolutely stunning. Not only visually, mind you, but gastronomically. My tastebuds were worshipping that little tangy, eggy, wonderful dish. The seasonal fruit hit the spot, as well. I also had a bite of my sister's german pancake with lemon, butter, and sugar. It was delicious. Insanely so. The atmosphere was nice, but I would say that it was a tad chilly inside! Also, our waiter/host was nice enough, but not friendly. Maybe he was just having an off day. We've been on the hunt for a breakfast joint. When we came across this place. We were seated quickly and ordered massive amounts of food. I think our eyes were bigger than our stomach! I got the California benedict with hash browns and fruit. Hubby got chicken fried steak breakfast and we shared a German pancake. Though we left full and with leftovers the quality was average. Very disappointing. We took my elderly father-in-law out for lunch, and as he wanted dessert, we were disappointed to see there were only three dessert items to choose from. One of them, the apple pie, was dreadfully undercooked, the apples were hard and so was the crust. Dad mentioned this to the server, but nothing was done. My daughter had the chicken-fried steak, and she remarked how everything on her plate looked like it was microwaved from frozen. Probably true. I had the Northwest Skillet, which was only okay, nothing to recommend. And my husband had the fish and chips; the fish was okay, but the coleslaw was very coarse so he didn't care for it. The food was only so-so, I understand the type of place this is so you don't expect too much, but they really need to look at the acoustics in the room. The din was unbearable - to the point one could not have a conversation without shouting, and this made worse by the fact that the music was turned way up. Why such loud music in a restaurant? I used to come into Elmer's for breakfast ages ago, but haven't been here for over 20 years. I won't be back. If you are looking for a better diner/coffee shop in Medford, go up 62 to Spicer's in the shopping center with the Lowe's and the Office Depot. read more

I have not had a meal this bad in a long time. My wife, my 5 year old son and I went in for breakfast yesterday. Our waitress never made small talk asked how were were or anything...it went something like this. Drinks? How would you like your eggs? Hash browns? How do you like your steak cooked? (I asked for medium rare and got rare) Menus? I'll get that! And she did an about face and walked away. The coffee tasted like burnt paper. I thought it was the cream...I asked for fresh half n half...she brought me 2% milk....she said, "I use 2% and I like it!" That's great BUT I asked for half n half...because that is what I liked. My steak was under cooked...the hash browns were still FROZEN in spots....the butter had brown and black specks of who knows what in it (we didn't have butter) My eggs tasted like they were old...or dirty water. When we went to pay, all cheerio she said, "How was it?" I told her that it was not good...she said what do you mean...I told her...she said well it looks like you got a box to take it home. I said, "Yes, that's all for my dog...the $12.00 breakfast for my dog!" She said, "Oh well, I am glad you told me...I can't do anything about it but I am glad you told me." I should have went to Witham's...they are cheap...have friendly service and the food is above average. Another problem is they have so many tables and chairs in there you cannot hardly get around...especially if people are in the seats with the chair pushed back....we saw several people walk around like in an obstical (sp) course just to find their way out. This time there were a few issues but the manager, Lawrence, was so proficient in ensuring our satisfaction that we remain happy and returning Elmers customers! This GM totally "gets" how to run an effective restaurant! You truly can count on Elmers for quality and service! 09/03/16 came in again..excellent food and service as always. Yes, it's diner food but it is great food. Adrianna is a great server. Every time we come in here we are impressed with the quality, price and service. Maybe I've just gone on good days (been here twice), but I LOVE it. I've had the ham and cheese omelette and the Willamette omelette and both times, it was delish. The ham chunks were bigger than I would have preferred, but still good. The Willamette was freakin' awesome, very fresh, and nothing was greasy. But the best part is the PANCAKES! Oh holy balls, they're ridiculously good. I crave them often (although, I am pregnant lol). The decaf is nice and strong without tasting burnt. We had the same waitress each time and she was very sweet. I will definitely be back, and I will DESTROY some pancakes OMG :) read more
