Was surprisingly extremely satisfied by this place. My family and I got hungry during our road trip, and my dad randomly decided to stop here. I thought it was sketchy at first, but the service was amazing. Our waitress (whose name I, unfortunately, can't remember) was super friendly, welcoming, and helpful in suggesting items on the menu. The clam chowder was delicious, fish and chips were perfect, and the German pancake was a new experience that was fun to eat. Crossing through Idaho for the first time, my friends and I came upon Elmer's. We thought it would be a pleasant experience, as we were excited to try Idaho's famous potatoes in the form of hash browns. Unfortunately, however, our experience would be far from pleasant. We were seated in a back room of the restaurant after passing several available booths. In addition, our table only had two seats despite the fact that we told our waitress that there were four members in our party. We were not given straws with our foggy cups, my friend was not offered creamer for his coffee, nor did he receive any refills. We also received our check as soon as the food came, so we felt rushed. All in all, we did not feel apart of the Elmer's family, as mentioned in their description. I've never felt so disowned from a restaurant that claimed to be like family. Ps. I enjoy diners but Elmers though served Stove Top stuffing which I hate wita warmed deli slice of processed turkey at a premium price. By itself I despise Stove Top enough to never return and a cold cut slice of turkey is something I would only want on a sandwich at home. I enjoy the old style diner atmosphere so this was nice. Good food, service and atmosphere. We split the "yellow bowl" salad and the prime rib dip sandwich. The sandwich was delicious. We had been traveling for a lot of days when we found this place on yelp. It was good...so good in fact that we hung around & went back there for lunch the following day. My husband had the chicken fried steak both times and told me it was the best he has ever had. He also loved the clam chowder. I had the fish & chips and the spinach crepes. Everything was perfect. Really good. It's a diner so don't go in expecting gourmet. My husband had the prime rib and I had fish and chips. The coleslaw was good and crunchy, not overly saucy. The fish had just the right amount of breading and not soggy with oil....nice and crunchy. My husband said the chowder was quite good and prime rib was delicious. The service was good. Everything is canned, frozen, processed and tastes old and reheated. Do NOT get anything with crab on it, just disgusting. Eggs Benedict is hit and miss. Sometimes ok, sometimes terrible with tough ham, stale muffins, and poached eggs that literally gush poaching water all over the plate when you break into them. Their breakfast "skillets" are not cooked on a skillet. The stuff is microwaved and put on a plastic skillet shaped plate. Denny's skillets are better and that's saying a LOT. The one plus is mimosas. One time I had their fish and chips and it was ok but I was drunk. read more

So here we are tootling down the highway on our way to catch our flights in Salt Lake City after waking at 5am in the Grand Tetons. We needed a hearty breakfast that met the needs of our mixed food tastes groups. I think everyone was happy - the carnivores got their bacon egg sausage melanges, and we two vegetarians were wonderfully accommodated with made-to-order variations. Elmers is an excellent place to stop and have a wonderful hot breakfast. The Northwest skillet of cheesy scrambled eggs with vegetables was delicious. It's a huge meal and so I would not order anything else along with it unless you are hungry beyond imagination. The house made biscuits are delicious soft and served warm with butter. The hungry ranchers breakfast contains bacon, sausage and and ham with three eggs and hashbrowns. This also comes with the warm house biscuit. All the ingredients were fresh. The vegetables and the skillet were cooked all dented. The coffee was delicious, the best coffee we've had on this road trip so far. The service was excellent there was no wait for the check nor for its return in the food came quickly the waitresses were friendly and accommodating. We couldn't have been more disappointed after a long day on the road. My wife's hot chocolate was cold and was sent back to dilute the sickening sweetness. My 16-year old son's German pancake had no powdered sugar and lacked all flavor. My peanut butter milkshake was all peanut butter and no ice cream. We were told our food was poor because it was the end of the day, plus the manager had been dealing with some problems all day. The waiter, Abigale, was very friendly. It was a little bit of a drive into town, Elmer's was on the left. Oh, Wow! The menu alone was great. I always like to partake of diner food from real diners in the towns that I visit and after eating too many sweets on this trip we decided that a proper breakfast was in order. I had the Country Eggs Benedict and a side of hash browns. The Country Benedict were epic. They get two soft biscuits, top it off with sausage and drown them in gravy, with the eggs on top.
