I ordered the German pancake with lingonberry butter on the side. I tried the traditional lemon and sugar first and found that more tasty than with the lingonberry butter. The service was prompt and friendly. My waitress even gave me a to-go cup of iced tea. The cook was quick also, less than 15 minutes to make the pancake. I've heard that these take a bit of time to make at other restaurants. I was in for lunch and they were slightly busy but didn't have problems keeping up. I always like a good "breakfast served all day" restaurant since that's my favorite meal. read more

The food was amazing, great quality and fresh. The service was excellent, and friendly. The place was packed with customers, which surprised us that the food came to us so quickly, hot and delicious. In today's environment it's really heartening to go to a local restaurant where they take cleanliness and the safety of their guests very seriously. In spite of the challenges- they continue to serve really good food. Even better, there's an amazing server @ Elmer's named Baylee. Smart, attentive, always moving- as good a staff member has we've experienced anywhere. We met Earl back when he was the GM during our 1st residency here about 14 years ago, and were pleased to see that he had become the owner upon our recent return to Pocatello. He's brought on some great people and has elevated the restaurant's overall quality to even higher standards than before. The staff here was very friendly. The food here is great! There are many items on the menu and it was difficult to choose one because most looked very appealing. The prices are reasonable and the kids menu includes good options that should cover even picky children's tastes (speaking from experience). Most of us ordered breakfast-the Willamette omelette, breakfast burrito, and French toast with bacon and eggs-and each entree was delicious. Being an Idaho native, I have always loved Elmer's! So naturally, when my brother asked where we wanted to go for breakfast, this was our first choice! Famous for the German potato pancake, it's one of my husband's favorite breakfast items! I decided to try the chicken fried steak skillet with eggs and hashbrowns, while my brother went for french toast and eggs. The skillet was to die for and covered in tons of cheese - my philosophy, the more cheese, the better! While we sat around for a few hours catching up, I never felt rushed out and our coffee was consistently refilled. It's definitely a laid back place with killer homemade food. just now What is happening Elmer's? This has always been our go to place but today's food was horrible! We waited 45 minutes and had to ask where our order was and had to have it put in to go boxes. There were four cooks, why would it take that long and it be so bad.. I looked in the boxes before we left and was shocked by what I saw, the hashbrowns were half what you normally place in an order and the chicken fried looks half the size as well. The taste was horrible and leaves a bad taste, like old oil. We asked for gravy on the hashbrowns and there was only about a tablespoon, so no help there. The biscuits, which we were not given the option for toast as usual, were dry and unappetizing, my omelet has so much grease it is sitting in a pool of it! A table next to us expressed they had waited longer and there order was messed up too, having an allergy to onions, the ladies omelet had them in it after requesting they be removed. The service was horrible, especially after requesting to go containers, I cannot understand how it became the customers fault, as that is how it made me feel when the waitress who took my payment and had a rude attitude towards it. We are truly saddened to see another local great take a dive, as Papa Paul's did so many years ago! We only gave 2 stars out of respect for all the years we truly loved this place! A visiting student's delight!! Have you ever been away from home and ever craved a home-cooked breakfast? Well Elmer's is just the place for you :) my boyfriend and I stopped by recently on a cold, snowy night looking for something to warm our bones. Initially we were thinking a hot bowl of soup or chili, but after reading the reviews about Elmer's breakfast, we knew we had to try it instead. Now, what really surprised me about Elmer's breakfast offerings was that they proudly advertised the brand of eggs and sausages they used. At first I thought it was a bit silly, but once my order of eggs, sausage, and hash browns came out, I totally got it. My scrambled eggs actually looked like scrambled eggs--none of that artificial egg mix from Denny's. My chicken and apple sausages actually had chunks of green apple and fresh chicken in it. Talk about legit! To top it all off, the hash browns were extremely fresh and perfectly crisped. But that's not all. I also ordered the traditional German pancake--a mouthwatering delicate dish smothered in butter and fresh lemon juice. I'd describe the taste as being similar to a fresh French pastry with a perfectly sweetened glaze. So delicious. Also excellent presentation. I could go on and on about the quality of Elmer's ingredients and foods, but I'll stop here so you'll be compelled to try it yourself. Would definitely eat here again :) read more

We come to Pocatello once a month or so from over in Wyoming to get some shopping done at Costco. After reading Yelp we decided to try put Elmers for brunch. I was intrigued by the German pancakes since I had never eaten one before. We arrive just after eleven. The place was fairly busy and we had to wait for a few minutes since we were a party of five, but the manager made sure to tell us that he was working on getting us a table promptly and again checked on us to tell us it was almost ready. We were seated and the server came by and took our drink order. He was friendly and funny too. We ordered and our food was delivered in a reasonable amount of time. My German pancake was served hot, the edges crispy, and the strawberry topping was tasty, they also didn't skimp on the powdered sugar. It was very tasty and something I'd order again, although it was pricey, over ten dollars for the pancake and extra for the strawberry topping. My daughter had the cinnamon pancakes which were very flavorful and delicious! There were four of them and she ate every one. My brother ordered the chicken fried steak meal which was good also, although the chicken fried steak wasn't oversized, but it tasted fresh. The biscuit was very tender and tasted homemade. Hubby had a rueben sandwich which had lots of meat and great flavor. The food was excellent, the service was great, the prices could be a little cheaper, but the food and service was good enough that it's worth a few extra bucks. We will be back again. read more

I am a total sucker for a mom and Pop style diner where the food is made from scratch everything comes out steaming juicy tender or flavorful and the seasonings are picked by an expert hand. I've only lived in Pocatello about a year and a half, and I have chosen to eat here several times even being a girl on a budget... Lol because it fits my budget! YUM!!! This place was a great find! The menu had so many delicious options, I had a hard time making up my mind!!! I ended up with a skillet breakfast and it was BOMB. Hit the spot!!! Probably the best place in Pocatello, ID. for breakfast. This little place is right on a main street that runs through to the center of town. It sits across the street from ISU and is a fairly popular place for students and family. Their food is very tasty, almost home cooked you might say. Thick, crispy bacon, eggs cooked just how I ordered them and the country gravy was fantastic. Staff is always busy but still friendly and helpful in bringing you anything you might need. We stopped here after the Idaho State football game. It is just like every other family diner, but the staff was very nice and accommodating (even with our opposing team shirts on). We all got different breakfast items. I got the Chicken Friend Steak, I was super pumped to get it, but sadly was really let down. The steak was pretty dry, and didn't come with enough gravy, however, the biscuit was AMAZING! One of my friends got the German pancake and was pretty happy with his. The best thing someone ordered was the cinnamon roll pancakes. Its as if God himself came down and made those pancakes.
