While reading prior reviews sometimes you have to believe them. Was seated for breakfast in a party of 4. Large booth very visible. Waitresses and waiters I assume constantly walking past no one bothered to stop and take drinks orders or acknowledge. After 5 minutes we asked if we could get help and she reluctantly stopped as if she was waiting for us to make contact with her. She took our order. The food was prepared and sat on the counter for at least 10 minutes. We watched multiple staff walk back and forth with many prepared plates sitting getting cold. At one time a cook (one of the four) hollered out about the numbers of plates sitting and crowding the area. Finally the food was brought and just as we thought it was our food sitting for some long. The eggs were cold and the gravy on my biscuits mild warm. I chose not to send it back due to amount of time it took to come. I new what to expect from previous reviews. I just hoped they were wrong. Cooks working hard, but waitress service on another time level. Not to mention she went on lunch break and didn't bother to inform us. First time and the last time. I will share this. read more

My son and I had some time to kill on a Tuesday evening and decided to stop at Elmer's because someone had mentioned they had the best coffee in town. My son ordered the shrimp and fries. I ordered the lighter bacon, cheddar, avocado burger with no sauce and cottage cheese. When the waitress brought the food she apologized for it taking so long because it had been prepared with sauce so she had them fix it. I said, ok. But it's supposed to have cottage cheese not fries. She took it back and returned with cottage cheese. I took out the tooth pick to cut the burger and saw sauce on the bun and bacon. The waitress took my plate away again and this time my order was correct. I bit in to my long awaited burger and it was cold -- no surprise it was prepared along time ago by the time it touched my mouth! Now I asked to talk to the manager who was very apologetic and took the burger off our ticket. She was going to give me a complimentary coupon of some sort but didn't know how to fill it out. I left a complaint form and was assured that the manager would call the next day and make things right. Well, no call today --I waited to write the review to give them time to call but they didn't. It's o.k. we probably won't ever go back -- even with a complimentary ticket. read more

Had b'fast here on my way through Idaho one early morning. Fully expected it to be a sub par chain experience akin to a Dennys or iHop, and it was in almost every way, including the large, cheap diner-like atmosphere, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of their entrees. I had the Oregon hazelnut pancakes with maple syrup and fresh blueberries while my honey enjoyed the Country Scramble with applewood sausage and lightly sauteed veggies. Both meals were tasty and the service was great toboot. The morning joe was hot, and although I'm quite a coffee snob, I found it satisfying enough to drink sans cream&sugar. My only gripes are that the menu has too many choices, the o.j. came with ice in it (never a good sign), and the prices were slightly steep for a chain diner. read more

The staff was very friendly. The diner was clean and a typical old style diner. I tried the prime rib. They did say it was closer to medium. I took the chance. It was way beyond medium, tough and tasteless. I couldn't even finish. I feel bad for them because they tried and they did try to make it right with the bill. Wow. Came here Because of the name but was wowed by the service. Our waitress Georgia was attentive and informative. The soup came fast (clam chowder) and was delicous. This diner is worth the stop! Alaskan Cod was good, the rice was excellent. The ranch bacon breakfast was also great and more than enough. Kids meal was standard but presentation is excellent. We stopped for lunch while traveling through Pocatello even though it was a little further from the interstate than typical fast food choices. It is across the street from the Idaho State University campus and appeared to be a popular place with both student types as well as the older after church crowd. We ordered their clam chowder and split a burger, both were quite good. But our server made the stop very pleasant. She was friendly, efficient and attentive. The menu had so many choices including breakfast even though it was around one o'clock in the afternoon. Lots of parking available both on the street and their own parking lot. We will certainly try to stop here again on our next trip through! read more

A family owned restaurant just across the street from the University. It's on fifth street which is a one-way street heading westbound. Parking is behind the restaurant. Love this place! My experience is limited to breakfast items, but to me those are the hallmarks of a good diner so yummy bfast = happy me. Omelets and skillet combos are great. Lots of modification options (no cheese, egg whites only, etc.) AND a dedicated allergy menu that's very helpful for diabetics/lactose/gluten folks. They'll even remove the bananas from your fruit salad if you ask. This place is very family-friendly yet there are MIMOSAS! I live in California, and I was visiting Idaho with a friend of mine to visit her family. We decided to have Breakfast at Elmer's because the pictures looked amazing, and seemed to have a warm and friendly environment . When we arrived, we were greeted with the sweetest and probably one of the best Waitresses I've ever had, Melissa. She took our order and paid attention to every detail, especially mine (scrambled eggs with cheese, crispy bacon & side of salsa.. oh, biscuits and gravy too) she didn't even need to write it down. She brought our food out & it was amazing. Food was fresh, delicious and filled us up . Not to mention the Mimosas. OMG THOSE MIMOSAS WERE PERFECT!! Thanks to Melissa for making them. Great place for breakfast get-togethers. I have only ever eaten breakfast here but the food is consistently good, every time. Friendly staff, with plenty of seating. They even have the big round corner booth-tables if you have a large party. The prices are not the lowest, but it matches the quality of the experience.
