I want to say Emmy Squared started off promising? Add in ample parking and outdoor seating, a nice space on a fall day, plus space for friends' multiple small children to run around. Pizza crust is pleasantly thick and tasty, pepperoni pizza has a solid amount of quality pepperoni. The salad wasn't bad either. From there the experience goes downhill. Ordered a side chicken for the said small kids, it was literally a piece of breaded and fried chicken cut and slapped on a plain white paper plate. Then it gets worse. We had five people and things came out with only two plates and two forks. We asked the server for more plates and forks, got the forks, never got the plates. Which turned out not to be a problem because we'd ordered a second pizza that was missing the protein (sausage) that it should have had. So we sent someone inside, got the plates, had them fix the second pizza - which came back literally carpeted in sausage bits. Now in terms of value, sure, more toppings the better. But in terms of presentation, yeah, no. Heck in terms of Emmy Squared' bottom line, what's the value add in dumping a massive out of sausage onto a customer's pizza instead of a reasonable amount in a more artful fashion? Verdict: had promise, kinda delivered, left unimpressed. read more

This business has shameful customer service. We ordered two pies, prior to paying we asked to add hot honey for four people. The worker refused to let us pay for a side of hot honey, said he would give us enough and not to worry. Fine, we waited for our order. When we received our order, he included a tiny side of hot honey, and when we asked to purchase another side, he refused to let us buy a side and said his register is closed even though he said he'd give us enough for four people. He said that the tiny side he gave us was enough and he cannot give us more EVEN THOUGH WE WANTED TO PAY FROM THE BEGINNING. We were incredibly friendly to him, but still, would not let us buy a side and was really rude. Horrible experience. Gross customer service. The pizza itself was meh, average and $60 for two very small pies. Which again, don't mind paying but not when it's coupled with horrible customer service and average pizza. Apollonias is significantly better, and they're much nicer so won't be coming back here. read more

I have been a customer for over a year since I live in the neighborhood and think their pizza is very good. However, good pizza can't shake off what I experienced in my last visit. My friends and I sat down to order online and after 40 minutes and being the only one of my friends to not receive my food yet, I realized something might be wrong. It took a while to get anyone's attention, and when I finally told a guy working that I was waiting so long he walked away when I was mid-sentence to go chat with some friends. I didn't even have enough time to tell him my order name before he walked away and cut me off. He finally came back after I kept calling him over and he asked for my name to go check on the order. At this point I waited OVER AN HOUR for one pizza. They didn't even apologize. Listen, I work in food service and I get it. It can be very easy to lose a ticket. But what's hard to dismiss is that the workers were rude to me, ignored me, and didn't even apologize for the long wait time. read more

If you love Detroit style pizza, then this is absolutely the place for you. This is everything a Detroit style should be, crispy cheesy edges but a light a fluffy center. I think I would love it even more if there wasn't an 18% tacked on fee to every order. On our last visit, we got The Colony, cheesy garlic sticks, and two sides of ranch and our order was just under $60. That seems a little excessive, and the pizza was almost worth the price. This will never be a regular takeout or delivery option because it is but it's definitely a nice treat to have every so often. read more

As a world traveling pizza master I was extremely excited to hear Emmy squared has opened in LA. After going to the original pizza Emily and then the Brooklyn location a handful of times as well as the Nashville location I knew I was in for a treat in LA... BUT Boy was I wrong. The pizza reminds me of what ballgame pizza is where it's being made as fast as possible Thrown in a box and sent on its way. The pizza had no resemblance to what I expected and was bland. We added Pepps to the vodka pizza as this is a staple in New York these days. I counted approx 7 pepperonis on the entire pizza and two of the slices had zero. There was maybe 2 tablespoons of sauce on the entire pizza. There was one piece of basil on the pizza which was just weird. It just felt like there was zero quality control. I will give it this... the crust had consistency with some of their previous pizzas in other locations but it was clear this pizza was thrown together and zipped out the kitchen. We also had a gluten free for my son which i was impressed with but also felt nit had about 50% of the sauce compared to their pizzas in the past. I want to preface that the experience was fine but what I had today did not represent the Emmy squared name.. Feels like a shotty attempt to expand and or trade on the Emmy squared name. Just opened in Santa Monica Brew Works, this East Coast transplant serves up some serious Detroit Style pies to go along with your brew. You order from your table with the QR code. They have a full menu -- burgers, salads, etc. -- but we were dying to try their pizza (I think the original one is in Brooklyn). The app was a bit glitchy so we found one of the helpful guys to customize our pie (half pepperoni / half mushroom). 15 min. later, a hot, thick, square pie came to our table. It's not cheap -- $30 bucks after tax and tip - but it was delicious. They cut the squares into six small pieces -- so enough for two people to share (unless you are really hungry!) Small complaint was that there were far fewer slilces of pepperoni than advertised -- so if I'm going to spend that much on a pizza, the toppings should be loaded. (The mushroom side of the pie was fine). Sauce and cheese were first rate -- so enough good things going on here to come back for more. read more

Went here yesterday to get pizza and beer from next door. We got the Roni Overload and the Good Paulie. Both were outstanding and so different from each other. The Good Paulie has smoked Gouda which I've never had on a pizza and it was delicious. I also love a good thick crust and their's was wonderful. They didn't have to walk to a table and take an order they just stand behind the counter I asked for a receipt and never got it. The pizza was burnt. T.I.P.S. Is not a word It's an acronym meaning To Insure Prompt Service. It means you have to do your job well. The triple pepperoni Detroit style pizza is very excellent. They do a nice job, the quality is great and having had the top Detroit pizzas all over, this ranks at the top. I would highly recommend and order a side or a few extra sides of sauce. read more

Being located at SM Brew Works completes the beer + pizza combo if you're looking for one good spot to hang out in the evening. That being said, as other people have noted, it's expensive. Just one pizza can cost up to $33+ and that's probably only enough for 2 adults to share. In comparison, you could go to Abbotts in Venice and get a 20" pie for the same price; food for thought. Pizza was marginal. I grew up in Michigan (Detroit area). This is not Buddy's or even Shield's pizza. Hardly any cheese, Buddy's uses Wisconsin Brick cheese. We ordered the pepperoni pizza...Hardly any pepperoni. The only thing close to "Detroit style" was the edge crisped crust. To top it off we were charged a service fee of 18 percent (around $4.00). I walked to counter, ordered pizza, sat on bench across from counter for 15 minutes then walked up to counter to pick up pizza. No reason for service charge. Will not be back. Always looking for a new/different pizza spot. Detroit style is my favorite. Came across Emmy Squared when someone mentioned their favorite Detroit styled pizza. Was hesitant at first since they have so many locations... but only one in LA area. Decided to treat the wife to a cheat day and ordered their Big AL pizza for pickup. Traffic was a nightmare on the 405 and ended up picking up the pizza about 30 minutes late... but man was it worth it. Had the first piece in the car as I was Hangry. It was everything you would want in a Detroit Styled pizza. Crisp corners with a chewy crust. My crust was a little soggy due to it sitting but the FLAVOR was tremendous. The sausage, Burrata, basil, and Calabrian chiles were a great combination. Probably one of the most flavorful pizzas I have had. Pizza was on the tiny side but when talking about top Detroit Style pizzas in LA, Apollonias, Quarter Sheets, Emmy Squared are top 3. Emmy Squared could be 1 due to location, ease of ordering, cost, hours, parking. Excellent pizza and well worth a trip. read more

We have been to the NYC location for Emmy squared and we're so excited to hear that it has come to Santa Monica. They are located inside of the Santa Monica brew Works location where you can order straight from your phone. The menu seems to be the same, aside from a few changes. Their pizza is a Detroit style deep dish, with cheesy crispy edges, a fair amount of toppings and cheese. Each pizza comes with about six slices, definitely enough to be shared with another person and it came out piping hot and fresh! We also got their le big Matt burger which was a good, but doesn't come with fries at the price of $19. I would probably get their fried chicken sandwich over the burger next time. Overall great culinary addition to the brewery, and will definitely come back. read more

For LA this Detroit style pizza is probably 4.5 stars. Pizza definitely delivers if looking for Detroit style pizza. That being said having grown up in Detroit area and eating Buddy's and Jets etc this is not at that level. Overall I am glad to have a Detroit style pizza close by. read more

I met up with friends at the SM brewery last night and Emmys is right next door. At first I was turned off by the idea of having to order via an app Bc I had questions about the menu. One has to walk next door to find those answers. But once the food came out all was forgiven. My husband had the burger and I got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. We shared the 8 dollar fries. First note is that the chicken sandwich is not spicy 'hot'. Perhaps they meant temperature 'hot'. But still good. He really enjoyed his burger but both sandwiches are overpriced considering that they don't come with fries or any side. They are well sized. I was able to make a full sandwich for lunch the next day from the half sandwich that I brought home with me. Still quite good. The service was fast and good considering again that they were coming from the next building. read more
