Emmy Squared Pizza is the latest of the Detroit style pizza craze to open on Colorado/19th in Santa Monica. Limited parking the parking lot shares with Santa Monica Brew Works. I frequent Santa Monica and have passed by the Santa Monica brew house always crowded outside the parking lot converted patio with picnic benches and sun umbrellas. Now Emmy shares space inside the commercial warehouse building. After parking, I walk towards the Emmy banner. I'm tapped on the back by a guy dressed in black with shades, informing Me I cannot enter the building and had to order online. The menu stickers were on the patio tables in the parking lot. Thank goodness there was an available table beneath an umbrella or I would have melted, Yes I am fragile, otherwise my skin will burn :( On Emmy's yelp page, no website, no menu to get any info of what the selections were. I've screenshot key menu pages and posted it here in Yelp...you're welcome! After scanning downloading and looking at the menu, I had questions, but there was nobody representing Emmy to help with my queries :(( Not knowing much about the foods, specifically the pizzas, I hesitatingly ordered 'The Colony' which is a Detroit style crust is a thin end layer and fluffier doughy topped with marinara pepperoni jalapeños and honey drizzle. I don't eat eat pepperoni but I figured I pick it off. Turns out the guy dressed in black who guided Me earlier, whose name is Jack works for the brew house and he was very helpful; he said the colony pizza was the best and also brought out a bowl of fresh water for Fendi and offered to get Me a drink. I don't drink beer, NOT A fan, but helpful of and nice of Jack to help Me. Apparently, the crowd seemed to resemble Frat House guys drinking, drinking as a sport! The atmosphere and vibe was just not for Me. It's very casual and just not my crowd. Other people brought their big dogs, which annoyed the heck out of Fendi. I was on the verge of melting in this heat, when finally my pizza was brought to my table in a box. Upon inspecting the pizza and taking a bite, this pizza was Delish and this pizza deserves a 4 stars, it tasted better than DTown pizza in West Hollywood aka WeHo. But for the negative experience outside: no person from Emmy to help answer my questions, was Not allowed inside to see the pizza making facilities, aka Not transparent, no menus posted online, no website, no delivery options..Oy vay!...seriously almost an epic Fail. Good thing this pizza save their rating. Unless you like being surrounded by beer chugging frat boy types at a concrete parking lot and have No service whatsoever, but you're automatically charged an unearned, unwarranted additional 18% which is obnoxious, but if you're in SaMo, try this Detroit style pizza and take it TOGO! read more

This was the most expensive pizza I've ever had, but I will say it was absolutely delicious. Maybe it's because I was at the brewery next door so they had to bring it over, but my total came out to $31 for the pizza. The pizza itself was sooo good though! The crust was crunchy and the sweetness of the honey balanced the spiciness and saltiness of the pepperoni and jalapeño really well. I might say it was the best Detroit style pizza I've had, though I haven't had many. I just wish it wasn't so expensive, then I'd be coming back asap!! read more

There is something about the pizza dough that makes you wanna eat more. Liked the way they designed my simple veggie pizza. Don't get people nagging about the price , have you checked out delivery papa John's pizzas prices . The same you pay for papa which tastes like factory made. Only reason I don't give 5 , cause as customary to all the great restaurants that after a while get trashy , don't want to look back at this review and feel cheated. Nice job guys ! If I had to give a pizza review it would be a 6/10. Pizza itself was soggy and barely had any pepperoni. Their service isn't that great as they charge $2.65 for ranch. They are kind enough to bring your dine in items to the brewery attached. They have a standard 18% service fee, even for take out which makes no sense. But I guess that's Santa Monica for you. When the options are limited in the neighborhood, you just gotta suck it up. read more

We came here specifically for the burger after seeing a bunch of vlogs featuring the New York location. It's located next to a brewery, so you can dine there, or you can do takeout. We went ahead and ordered takeout since it looked like there were still people waiting to be seated when the brewery opened, so we just sat at a random table right outside the pickup door. Food came out super quickly which was great since we put in our order before all those people waiting to be seated! I think we ordered about 11:55, and our food was out by 12:05. The Le Big Matt burger definitely lived up to the hype. The meat was juicy, and I loved the soft pretzel bun. The cheese was gooey, and I even liked the pickles despite not normally being a fan of them! It added some nice acidity and crunch to the soft and melty burger. We got the kids pizza sticks for our kids too, which are basically cheesy breadsticks. They tasted really good so I can imagine their pizza is also delicious! It was like a deep dish crust consistency and was super fluffy. Would definitely recommend making the drive out for the burger though! read more

Ok so don't expect a giant pizza. Size wise may be a bit disappointing. But hold up, don't hate til you try. It may seem like a tiny rectangle cut into 6 smaller squares, but give it a bite, (and make sure it's a hot and fresh bite). The dough is chewy, different than regular American pizza, it's on the thicker side, so more carby, the crust is crunchy goodness in your mouth. My favorite was the supreme. The Hawaiian was ok. The Emmy was pretty good. They also sell sandwiches and salads. After 2 slices, I was pretty full. Don't know why they only give sauce with the Emmy pizza, I used that sauce on all of them, hehe. read more

The food was pretty bomb here. It's located next door to Santa Monica brew works but the ordering process is a little wack. When you walk in they encourage you to go order at your Santa Monica brew works table using a QR code. What if I just want to talk to their staff at their ordering counter? They said I "could" but weren't excited at the idea. It's just a little annoying. One of their staff was a little rude. Some customers just like paper menus and ordering from a person instead of using their phones. Best Caesar salad I've ever had. It's not for everyone bc you cut it up yourself. Solid Detroit styled pizza in Santa Monica. Just when I was thinking LA doesn't do good Detroit style, emmy squared proves me wrong. The crust is thick but light. Burnt (slight char) on the edges with a buttery doughy texture. Ingredients felt higher quality and toppings were adequate. A solid offering in the area. Not as stellar as Square Pie Guys in the Bay Area but respectable for a celebrated NY chain. We tried 3: Margherita was our favorite, tomato sauce that wasn't sweet (unlike joes NY pizza), cheese that was ample and in the crust too, and enough basil to go around. You get around 6 square slices and it tastes better the next day. Umami. Roni overload was solid and the meat eaters loved it. They said it had enough pepperoni and flavor for them to keep going back for more. Deeply satisfying. Vegan caramelized onion and garlic confit was an interesting attempt that may need finessing. Since it doesn't come with sauce, it has to work harder. The vegan cheese was decent but it lacked a dimension of flavor compared to the others. Perhaps the least successful of the 3 but has a lot of potential with some flavor development. We also tried the impossible meat balls that didn't deliver well. And a side of mushrooms for the baby who seemed to like it. Overall a solid Detroit styled pizza place that is sure to satisfy all your pizza cravings. Delivered well. read more

I love the atmosphere here, I've always loved coming. However it just feels like the quality has gone downhill. I noticed new items on the menu, but felt like the Nashville hot wedge salad for the evening. I genuinely feel like it was just a chicken cutlet, with bread crumbs and red dye. There was no spice, heat, or flavor, and the chicken wasn't that juicy itself. It should've been in a bigger bowl or plate, as it is a wedge salad. I just felt like there was no flavor, and usually we rely on the chicken to add some spice and flavor. I tried used the "chili oil" that came with my friends chicken sandwich, and it literally just tasted like avocado oil with red dye. Like, the brewery already charges 13$ for a glass of beer, I was just bummed to have spent 22$ on a salad that I didn't even finish. I just feel robbed when I spend that much on a SALAD and it can't even be right. ALSO, the "ranch" dressing was watery. The pizza is absolutely fantastic, but the prices are just too high. To summarize shortly, the pizza is detroit style, i.e. a deep dish that is roughly an inch thick - oily but delicious goodness. Some of my favorite one's are the Big Al (has burrata and calabrian peppers, sausage), and the convoy (pepperoni, jalapenos, honey). However, the pizza's cost ~$20+ except a few of them, and with them comes a mandatory 18% service charge. You immediately pay ~$30 with 10% state tax added on. This pizza isn't large either - you get six slices roughly 3 x 2-2.5 inch. I easily eat the whole thing each time. I just can't make it worth it and only order when I feel like spending. read more

My husband and I absolutely loved the Emmy Squared in DC, so when we moved to LA and found out that one of our fav breweries had started serving their pizza we were super excited! We love the hot chicken pizza - it is so tasty and the pickles on top are so good. We also really enjoy the vodka pizza with pepperoni on top - sooo good. And the fries with pimento cheese and all the other toppings are excellent. Everything is just so good here! We will be back for sure. Square, Detroit-style pizzas, sandwiches, shareable appetizers, and desserts. Eddie was the cashier/server and was an absolute delight - personable, knowledgeable, helpful and was diligently doing side-work while we dined (a sight to see for a former restaurant manager). Pizzas only come in one size but are good to share as they are thick, but cooked through perfectly. Trout dip & boneless wings were good apps. The 18% automatic surcharge on EVERYTHING is absolutely absurd. I went in, ordered they made the pizza and I took it to go. They made the pizza, handed the pizza over and that's what I have to pay 18% for?? To make pizza is their business and job. It's such a turnoff and will not be back. Where it really gets annoying is that they tack on a mandatory 18% service charge for walking your order 50 feet yet are too cheap to include parmesan and crushed red pepper with every order.
