This is one of the first restaurants I went to when I moved to the Bay in 2002! It made me feel cozy, well fed and fucking cool all at the same time. Like when your older cousin takes you to a bar for the first time. You're safe but there's a little edge. The food is unpretentious but carefully crafted with intentional ingredients. I feel that you go to Emmy's Spaghetti Shack for the ambience and the vibes, not to save money. It's quite expensive for the amount of food you get, but the interior and quirky service makes it a memorable place to eat. The booths are adorned with animal print table lamination, with the walls covered in knickknacks all over. We went during the holidays and it was fun seeing all of the lights and Christmas decor. I feel like they keep up that spirit whether it is around the holidays or not. I enjoyed my meal, I thought it was very tasty. I got the classic spaghetti and meatballs. The reason I'm giving Emmy's three stars is the bill at the end of the night. I just remember how expensive it was for spaghetti and meatballs with a side of bread. The plate was very large, but it was hard to justify that price for the meal. With that being said, though, I had a good time and I'm open to coming back! read more

Really outstanding. I have been seeing this restaurant pop up on search list for about a year now, and we finally decided to give it a try. I cannot believe we waited this long! I don't know if it was the limited menu or the choices, but I somehow kept overlooking this place. Well, I am very glad we finally went because it was one of the best restaurants our family has eat at in a long time! Very eclectic vibe, and broad range of ages eating there. Rarely do I step into a place that feels so 'local' and yet delivers on food, service, and affordability. This is that place. We sat at the bar and Mike was warm, funny, and serving up some delicious cocktails (don't let him convince you to try the Doritos spirit...). The star was the food, we had a meatball appetizer, shared a chicken parm, and a lasagna. They were all good and felt like an incredible value. We came in with reservation at 8:30 on a Friday, it was 70% full, but it just got more full as the night progressed. It was jam packed by 10:00pm. I think that's indicative of a place where people want to go because they know they can have good food, not stuffy, and 10pm. Turns out Mike is the owner and you can tell he understands his customers. Turns out everyone loves Emmy's. Looking forward to coming back and trying some new stuff. read more

I love this place so much! The food is both delicious (HUGE portions) and aesthetically satisfy! Think of a cartoon drawing or picture advertisement of spaghetti: that is exactly what you get! A dramatically large mountain of spaghetti, with juicy meatballs tucked into the noodles. The spaghetti sauce is perfectly balanced and garlicky (but not too much) delicious! We ordered the meatballs that have nuts in them, and the nuts added a lovely texture in addition to a more flavor (nutty). We also ordered the lasagne: "5 layer pork + beef ragù, beschamel, pecorino, spicy vodka sauce, dollop of ricotta and a sunflower seed pesto drizzle." WOOF! It was SO GOOD. The noodles were perfectly cooked, al dente. The al dente texture really anchored the rest of the dish; I hate when a lasagne is too mushy. The spicy vodka sauce was so good that I wonder if they would let me sub it in when I order the spaghetti. Lasagne and Spaghetti + meatballs are both iconic Italian American dishes, and Emmy's does a perfect job at making their food both familiar and comforting - but with a unique twist (ie. the spicy vodka sauce and sunflower seed pesto) that makes the decision to eat out feel super worth it! The service is always thoughtful and efficient. Our server was courteous in allowing me time to make my decision, and even let me know that the lasagne takes 15 minutes to prepare. He was so kind giving us focaccia with olive oil/balsamic vinegar to tide us over while we waited for our food. I ordered a glass of the house red wine, which was actually delicious and came with a generous pour. He really made our experience that much better. Ambiance wise, this place reminds me the of the SF that I knew as a kid in the 90s/early 2000s! The decor is quirky and funky: it feels like walking into a cozy outdoor courtyard. There is an entire corner dedicated to Dolly Parton, pinball machines (also Dolly Parton themed), a Photo Booth, Photo Booth pictures of patrons everywhere, and so much color (rainbow string lights, art, etc). It's such a cozy and fun atmosphere! I just adore this place, and I love coming here when my craving for pasta strikes! There's a reason it's a beloved institution, and it's rad that they continue to be innovative with what they offer the community! I'm super interested in trying the date night deal they have on Mondays: two appetizers, one entree (the portions are HUGE), one dessert, and a good bottle of wine! All for $60! Emmy's is cute as hell. It's a cute date spot with pretty lights and cozy. There's also 2 pinball machines and a Photo Booth. Only drawback is every time I've gone it seems pretty loud in there. The food is goood I would say 6/10 and worth it at least once but I think the ambiance scores higher than the food. We went on a Monday and got the $60 deal which was def worth it but I wish they would have mentioned it was cash only so we had to use the ATM there. Even tho the flyer said no tricks. We got the cauliflower balls which were good but didn't taste like cauliflower and the cesar salad wasn't cut up and just a few big pieces of lettuce. Came here on a Friday night for a date night. My partner and I had been here before and were craving some delicious Italian food. Unfortunately for us we did not make a reservation which meant he had to wait about an hour to be seated but there are bars nears by you can go to for drinks as you wait. The service was okay. Our wait staff was kind of aloof and would only come to the table when we asked for help. No water refills or they didn't offer to give us more bread. I was a little disappointed which is why I took away one star. Food wise though you can never go wrong. They give you free focaccia bread for the table. Very fresh, full of flavor and fluffy. Like little clouds you dip in some olive oil. I got the chicken fettuccine Alfredo which was so buttery and had this phenomenal taste of garlic with every bite. It's a big portion too. My partner got the spaghetti with beyond meatballs. He was excited that they were using beyond meat as a substitute and enjoyed every bite. He devoured the entire meal. Overall a great place to dine in. The ambiance is fun with pretend clothes lines hanging above you as you dine. We had 5 pm reservations and it was not crowded at all. Where else can you go and get a pink drink with a cowboy hat atop a cherry. So embarrassed I cannot remember the name, but it was GOOD. Good old fashion Italian food. For our party of 4, we ordered the fried cauliflower balls which are a cousin to the Sicilian fried arancini balls. Very crisp and tasty. The caesar salad was generous for our party of 4. We ordered garlic bread which had real bits of garlic on top of the parsley and butter. We ordered the spaghetti with three meatballs, and added on an extra meatball. The meatballs were very tender. The linguini and clams were delicious with the subtle taste of pancetta in the delicious sauce. The final dish of habanero risotto with lemon sauce was different. I am not a fan of spicy food, so they were nice enough to hold the habaneros to the side. Ordering 3 entrees was plenty for our party of 4. No room for the fun desserts. By some miracle the bartender decided to take our order and I just told him to make it "to go" because there's no way I was going to stay and then have to leave a tip for staff that made zero effort to acknowledge our presence. Visited Emmy's tonight for the first time ever and the food and vibes were excellent but I'm truly struck by how kind the entire staff was. Everyone we interacted with seemed so pure of heart. This place always comes up on kid-friendly restaurants. I would say kids 5+ would enjoy this place more than my toddler did but we had a fabulous time nonetheless! Giant portion of spaghetti, but the taste was underwhelming. The pasta was very soft and the sauce was very plain. The mozzarella balls and garlic bread were good, and they also serve complimentary focaccia. The drink menu has some unique cocktails and even a couple mocktail selections. I got the siren which was supposed to be low ABV but it was a little strong, so the regular drinks are probably stronger. Parents beware--this restaurant no longer welcomes families w kids. :( With change of ownership, there's been a major vibe shift, and they now give noise warnings to customers for their kids playing games in their arcade in the back. Couldn't help but notice the new outdoor dining space past the arcade where customers may have complained about the noise. If the goal is to offer patrons a quiet experience, pro tip: do not put an arcade there in the first place. The restaurant staff unplugged the games by 7:45pm to our surprise. Choose your vibe and stick w it. Just get rid of the arcade altogether if customers playing games bothers you. The arcade, friendly staff, and fun vibe used to be the selling points for this place. We're sad about this bad experience and won't be returning. read more

We got here as our "special" meal on a Tuesday evening. I made reservations through Yelp beforehand so we were seated right away. The place is more a narrow setup, but we were seated by the entrance so I didn't really get to see much towards the back. So we ordered some wine and their focaccia which didn't taste like the focaccia I make. But, it was 2 bucks. My husband of course got their spaghetti and meatballs. I ordered the mushroom gnocchi. We'll, 10 minutes later our server comes back and they are out of it. Really?? I wasn't too happy about that. So I ordered their fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp. So our food came and is wasn't good. I didn't like mine because why can't an Italian restaurant make real Alfredo sauce WITHOUT cream?? My pasta was really dry and had no flavor. So I was disappointed. Dessert was a small tasting of pannacotta. While delicious, I thought we would be able to choose our dessert. Anyway, our server was great. The margarita was really citrusy and I would have rather had the martini. The cauliflower balls and meatballs were the star of the meal. Went there for a birthday dinner and it was amazing! The staff were so friendly and the food was delicious! The pasta portions are large so you can easily split them with a friend. The meatballs and the prosciutto Zeppoles were standouts and the bianci bolo was superb! Definitely will be going back to this fabulous restaurant. read more
