Decided to try out a new brunch spot today and Encanto Cafe did not disappoint. We got their traditional waffle, avocado toast, coffee, and an açaí bowl and loved absolutely every item. Didn't toast my avocado toast sandwich, then denied it, which was weird. When I literally tried to choke the sandwich down.... then refused to give me tap water when I asked for it... saying the owner does not allow it. Obviously owner is not familiar with California Retail Food Code (Cal. Health & Safety Code §114095): Restaurants must make potable drinking water available to all customers, when asked. Charged me 7.50 to add an egg on my avocado toast even though their menu says it's 3.50 for any style. Update to the owner's response: I asked to "add an egg" after ordering my avocado toast--nothing more. They asked how I'd like it cooked, and I simply said "scrambled is fine," assuming that was just the preparation, not a different dish or a larger portion. At no point did I ask for multiple eggs or anything beyond a standard add-on. The menu clearly states it's $3.50 to add an egg any style, so charging $7.50 without clarification doesn't make sense. If scrambled eggs always come as a separate $7.50 order or involve more than one egg, that should be explained when someone asks to add an egg, not after the fact. As for the food itself--overall, I'd give it a 4/10. There was a nice touch of lemon, but it was bland otherwise. No salt or seasoning stood out. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it. read more

Visited this place a couple days ago, the lattes aren't good. I'm not sure if it's the coffee grounds or how they pull the shots or the syrups, but it's just not good at all. I'm not a picky guy and I didn't finish my coffee. Workers seem like they don't want to be there, and hey i guess I wouldn't want to work at the bad coffee place either! I love this coffee shop. The coffee is amazing, presented so beautifully! So far I have only tried the pastries that are so amazing and flavorful. This is my new meeting point with girlfriends that work in La Jolla. I like the attention to detail with pretty mini vases in each table and the view to the ocean is wonderful. Service is so personable, very friendly, attentive. The building itself is very beautiful and it seems that there are apartments in the other doors on the floor above. Kind of unique. In our trip to San Diego this place popped up as a recommendation from Yelp! Boy was I pleasantly surprised. Excellent meal dare I say on our whole trip. We watched a ton of YouTube videos on places to eat in SD and we were a little underwhelmed with the other places. Encanto we will be back on our next trip. They told me it does not and that it would be $1.50. I have never been charged for syrup anywhere, ever. The food was mediocre nonetheless. I work in the area and will not be going back which is unfortunate. Cute cafe thats been pretty popular lately! I came with a friend and thought the place was aesthetically so pretty! Theres more seating outdoors than indoors so keep that in mind. I have to say that the matcha was genuinely terrible lol, I wish I tried something else instead. Food: I ordered the salmon toast. The tabasco spread that was on it was so bitter and the taste was off. I usually love tobasco so I'm not sure if it just so happened to be the one I got or if this usually tastes the way it did, but I did not like it at all and could not finish it. I asked for a coffee and it came like diluted brown water. What they do is make an espresso then add hot water which ends up being tasteless. When I asked to get another drink, the gal said, "Sorry, we don't do that!" So, if you're patronizing this place, you'll be sorry for the poor quality coffee and the poor customer service. my friends and i were traveling down from LA for my bestfriend's birthday. on our way to the beach we decided to stop at encanto cafe, where one of us had eaten before and thought it was worth hitting up again. on first glance, the place is cute, vibey with indoor and outdoor seating and a pretty expansive menu. one of my friends ordered asked the girl working if their pesto had nuts. the girl said yes it does, and i ask infront of the girl if my friend is allergic and she says "yes, very." my friend orders a chicken mozzarella sandwich instead, which doesn't have pesto, and pays. the girl working denied her a receipt. a few moments later her food comes out. my other friend and i were waiting on our food so she waits for us to get ours and takes just one bite of her sandwich. she notices her tongue tingling and looks closely at the sandwich. it's a turkey PESTO sandwich. i go in to confront the girl and she claims it was a "kitchen error" (doesn't even apologize) and offers to remake the sandwich. then both my friends come in and say her reaction is escalating and we need to get her treated ASAP. the girl working has the audacity to ask "how?" when we state my friend is having an allergic reaction. HOW?? she kept claiming it was a kitchen error, insinuating it wasn't her fault, never apologizing mind you. but she was AWARE of this allergy and should've been more diligent in at least ensuring there was no cross contamination let alone providing her with a completely wrong menu item that has what my friend explicitly stated she couldn't eat. we request a refund for ALL of our meals as we need to leave immediately to fetch my friend aid and no longer want to eat at their establishment (which i feel is valid) and to which she was hesitant about providing and eventually denied us a refund of two of our sandwiches and gave it only on the turkey pesto. it's not even an establishment issue at this point. it's money hungry, incompetent people who presented not an ounce of compassion. the food wasn't even that great either. 0/10 wouldn't recommend. read more

Truthfully I'm shocked this establishment still exists as we came here looking forward to celebrating my sister's birthday and walked away with rude attitude from the manager / owner, terrible food, each person dropping $30+ per plate for tasteless food and drinks. When we brought it up to the manager, she insisted we didn't order the food even after showing her the credit card charge. We were shocked with her customer service skills. The kids left starving and we decided to go to parakeet after. Avoid coming here there are MUCH better places in La Jolla that will give you a better ambiance / view, excellent customer service, and most importantly, wayyy better quality food!!! You won't leave with a disgusting taste in your mouth. Dear Encanto, I am a very reasonable person, i would never yell or raise my voice unless it's truly necessary. Your team chose to argue with us when we spoke to you kindly, the kids are hungry we have been here over an hour, and instead of saying we will bring out your order you insisted we never ordered the waffles. We even showed you the credit card charge. Any other restaurant would say okay, we'll bring it right away. My friend and I wanted a place to study and stumbled upon this gem! We were so happy because interior was so cute and staff was so friendly! We went on a Saturday morning around 9am and left around 11:30. Did not get crowded and did not get noisy! Parking: *** come before 10am because it does get difficult to find parking later in the day! We had no problem at all finding parking around 9am. We got the green juice and pistachio croissant. For some reason we were expecting it to be slightly sweet but it's green juice and it is what it is! Downside was that it was hard to drink once we were half way through because of the excess pulp. Loved the flavor of the pistachio croissant! Not too sweet and loved that it had chocolate bits inside! Would def get this again! By the way, there's also outside seating in the patio! read more

While we were ordering, a woman was using the restroom and the (presumed) manager placed an "out of service" door hanger on the outside of the bathroom door, and complained to an employee in Spanish that all people wanted was to use the restroom. The woman using the restroom then came out and asked about the sign but wasn't given an answer. Her husband then used the restroom and when they were finished, the employees locked it and wouldn't allow us to use it. Also, reading through all the Yelp reviews.. the owner of this place needs to learn some more respect while responding instead of having some backhanded comments.
