My favorite meat was actually the Beef Shank Heel Meat. Surprisingly, I preferred it over the A5 beef because I enjoyed the texture and flavor more. The A5 beef was good, but it wasn't my favorite of the meats we tried. The beef tongue was also good, although personally, I prefer beef tongue grilled rather than cooked in hot pot. For the other items, my favorites were the handmade shrimp balls and beef omasum tripe. The shrimp balls had a nice texture, and I really liked the chewiness of the tripe. The plum juice was another highlight. A large jar is $9.99, and with the discount, it's an even better deal. The jar is quite large and should be enough for about 5-6 people to share. They also currently offer a special for guests 60 years old or older: with a valid photo ID, they can enjoy one complimentary abalone. Service was attentive, the staff were quick in getting what we needed. Inside of the store is clean. Plenty of parking at the underground parking lot. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and especially liked the variety of meats and hot pot ingredients. With the promotion, I thought the value was quite good.

Staff speak predominately Mandarin , but menu items have peppers indicating spice, and plants indicating vegetarian. So if you're unable to communicate, I'm sure pointing would suffice. Inside is a rather small, sparse, nondescript room with a handful of tables and some private rooms. They seem to still be decorating, as they were moving things all over the place with the help of a handyman. We noticed a poster with food deals on it and asked about them. A moment later an older gentleman came over to the poster and tore it down. Besides the not unexpected language barrier with a server who did not speak English very well, the one huge problem with the place was that the thermostats were set to 80 degrees. We were all melting as we ate, which was uncomfortable. I hope it's not always like this. Otherwise, service was friendly enough and fine. As far as the food, it was all rather mid. The best item was the green onion pancake. We saw another table with their order and it looked floppy and under fried, so we asked for ours crispy. They were much better, and the flavor was very good. The pork potstickers were not as successful. They look good and are large enough, but the meat inside is not the best tasting. I wouldn't order these again. The kung pao chicken was decent although nothing particularly memorable. The same went for the fried chicken with chilies - essentially chong qing chicken. The problem we had with both the Kung Bao (as they call it) and Fried Chicken were they were not the least bit spicy, and we had asked for them to both be spicy. Surprising to label yourself a szechuan restaurant and then not be spicy. All in all, the food was serviceable but nothing really stood out except the stifling interior heat and the rather cheap prices - everything is very cheap. Three people ate for under $60. I wouldn't scream, "Stay away!", but I also wouldn't run back there any time soon myself. Shame since it was about five blocks from my home. You decide if you want a big pot that feeds supposedly 4-6 people or small pot 2-3 people. It's a $10 difference but when we got our pots, I think the smaller version seem like a better bargain. It was almost the same size from small to large. So what made me say I wasn't into the flavor? I got the shirt rib pit which came with garlic flavor non spicy. The ribs were extremely chewy on top of that it was grossly salty in flavor. Failed dish there. Then came my second dish which was a large pot mild with chicken wings and squid. Now this dish was worst. It was really spicy which I don't mind, but also extremely salty. We ordered rice to balance the flavor out, but it was too salty for my family's liking. On top of this, parking was limited, the garage is designed extremely short 6'6 so if you have any high vehicles try street parking. In the most convoluted sequence of restaurant occupancy in the annals of Chinese restaurants in the United States, Noodle King has supplanted Rice Hero/Hero's Kitchen/In Joy Lunch in Alhambra in the space formerly occupied by a different restaurant named Noodle King in the 1980s and 1990s. There's a lot to explain here. I used the compound name for the previous occupant because the name on the front entrance was Rice Hero, the back entrance said Hero's Kitchen and the digital menus said In Joy Lunch. I say the old restaurant was supplanted, not replaced, because the old restaurant sort of still hangs around, with a tiny sheet of paper with all 3 old names taped to the front door, and many old dishes still on the menu. Why the three names I don't know. In Joy Lunch had been a popup that operated during lunch hour serving Dongbei food in a space in YYDS Fried Strings in Rosemead. In Joy Lunch then struck out on their own last year with this space in Alhambra, adding the new names. The old Noodle King had been a Taiwanese noodle fixture before moving out in 2003. Since the new Noodle King also serves some of the Rice Hero/Hero's Kitchen/In Joy Lunch items, the same name seems to be just a coincidence. But despite holdover menu items the staff clearly say they're a new restaurant, with the Noodle King himself greeting you at the front entrance and the signage in both front and back now say Noodle King.
