I was very disappointed in Escobar's covid response. We came here only because they offered outside dining, but what a mistake. Staff was attentive, but that was the problem. FIVE different people came to our table, none wearing masks and none concerned with keeping any distance. I would put up my mask every time they came by, but they were oblivious. I have continued to eat out during covid, but this was a busy, crowded somewhat loud place with no concerns whatsoever about a pandemic. I would never go back during covid. That being said, my steak salad was also a disappointment, too. The steak was OK, but it was served on plain lettuce straight from a bag, the black beans tasted like they were straight out of a can with no seasonings, the corn straight out of a freezer bag and a handful of shredded cheese straight from a bag. No effort and not very Mexican. It did include a decent tasty avocado. I don't recall it having any special dressing. Ordered a takeout of number 3 with Chile relleno and 2 chicken enchiladas. Got to say I was a bit scared because takeout food never lives up to the hike but the food here was absolutely delicious. Beware. This place is extremely high risk for COVID superspread. It's packed to the gills, no ventilation, patrons are yelling and talking loudly, and there's not a mask in sight (except rarely on dangling around someone's neck). To get take-out, you have to stand inside to ask for your order and pay. They even asked me to sit inside and wait for my food! (no thanks) I feel bad for the employees. I'll start by saying the food wasn't terrible.... typical Mexican restaurant, and for me- anything spicy or co raining avocados is a win. The rice was meh. The service though- awful. We were dining with our 11 and 2 year olds.... and the place was on a 45 minute wait. When we got a table, someone brought chips and salsa (one small bowl for the table) and 4 glasses with a pitcher of water. Our toddler needs a cup with a lid or a really small cup- but we never got one. When Rosa (the only person I saw taking orders) finally came to get our order- about 10 minutes) there was no greeting, just a "what do you want to eat".... We placed our order and waited 40 more minutes for it to come out. In the meantime, No one ever came by to check if we wanted more salsa, another beer, or anything. The food finally arrived (brought out by yet another employee) and the young woman placed a HOT plate in front of the 2 year old. Wtf? When we were halfway through our food I was finally able to order a second beer. We sat with the mostly empty plates for so long that I finally had my husband take the kids outside so that maybe someone would realize we were finished and wanted to leave. It still took several minutes to get a check dropped off- and again, no "thank you" or "was everything good?".... just a "here you go". I almost never right negative reviews because I have been a server for many years and a business owner- and I realize that sometimes the ball gets dropped. But this really seemed to be something bigger- like an attitude of "tourists will come and pay regardless of service, so why be courteous?" read more

Ordered takeout food and the food *was good* but the restaurant had covid risk written all over it. Mask enforcement was not in effect for guests waiting in line to pay or get a table. The waiting line to pay was not spaced out at all, and every table in the dining area was full, including back to back tables (no six ft distance). I was very taken aback by the visit, as no other restaurants I went to during my time in Utah were showing similar conditions. At a minimum, guests should be able to pay from outside. Ok, hands down the food is 5/5 stars -- and I'm saying that after getting the wrong order (I ordered Chile relleno) and not caring and DEVOURING what I got (some sort of beef burrito, I dunno, it was delicious). We loved our food. So why 3/5 stars? When we picked up our takeout we were shocked to find what seemed to be ZERO COVID precautions in place. Every single table inside was filled....INSIDE! It is, without question, the best Mexican food in Kanab. If you want an authentic taco or burrito, this is the place to be. Service is friendly--even more than they need to be. Get there before you are hungry. Sometimes there can be a wait for a table, but the tables turn pretty quickly. The guacamole is not their house specialty. Skip it. We were staying in Kanab for a vacation to some of the national parks, and were wanting some Mexican food. We stopped on our first night and they were way too busy (Mother's Day). Two night later we went for lunch. The food was great, the portions were plentiful for the price. It's definitely authentic. The service left something to be desired, as it took a while to get our orders placed and we had empty drinks frequently. Food was good however, I had to leave this review because their absolute disregard for COVID. This whole space was crowded inside. With barely any room to move around and tables were not spaced out. I got my order to go but I watched as the guy handling walk ins just took his mask off entirely and proceeded to greet new customers and drop food off at tables. This is by far one of the best Mexican restaurants I have had. I currently live overseas and only visit home (the US) once a year. Where I live, the only Mexican food is Taco Bell. Yep, I know. It's a pleasure to find a family run eatery like Escobars. This modest, bustling business exudes front of the house hard work and kitchen competence. Soon after we seated, we were served a bowl of fresh hot chips and homemade salsa. Good chips = good sign. The cook(s) definitely know their craft. All three entrees we ordered exceeded our expectations. The chilis verde and Colorado were notable. Perfectly tender chunks of braised pork and beef respectfully were tender and moist. The sauces were excellent. I'd like both recipes. The third entree was vegetarian fajita. A generous portion of veggies and mushrooms were nicely grilled and plentiful. Both corn and flour tortillas served hot and fresh. I recommend Escobars unhesitatingly. Get there early or wait in line. Either option is worth it. read more

This is a good eat! The food was awesome and the service was decent. The in side of the restaurant is not very big, but they also have outdoor seating. Try to get there before the evening rush so you can get seated and fed quickly. If you like a little voter salsa just ask and they will bring you the special bottle of salsa to your table.
