A lovely relaxing happy hour before our theater date at the Academy of Music, conveniently located around the corner. Happy hour ends by 6:00 PM, so get there and be seated at the bar or high tops and shoot out your order to take advantage of the prices. At a previous attempt, I arrived late a few minutes after 6:00 PM and they would not honor happy hour. At my second attempt, I made sure to get there by 5:45 PM and order from the happy hour menu immediately - and I don't know if this was an accident or not - I did order one more item after 6:00 PM, and they did honor the price. Service was a bit slow, but it was busy and honestly, I was in no rush. I loved the little platter of warmed rustic bread paired with freshly made hummus, olive oil and a slice of radish as a complimentary dish. I loved the calamari ($8.5), hot, crispy and tender and of course, squeezing that fresh lemon is a must. The grilled sardines ($8?) was a miss for me personally, and it's my taste buds at fault here. We stopped by Estia for an early dinner. They offer an interesting Greek-inspired menu in a large and elegant dining room. The also offer happy hour discounts on drinks and appetizers in the bar area only. I went for the $40 "theater" menu which came with a choice of appetizer, entree and dessert. Food and drink prices were relatively high. The calamari wasn't deep fried, though the squid was a touch over cooked and the marinara sauce was acidic and unbalanced (and seemed out of place in a Greek restaurant). My moussaka was excellent. The potatoes, meat and eggplant were cooked perfectly and full of flavor. However the dish had a spoonful of marinara sauce on top - this truly didn't suit the dish. I finished with the salted caramel baklava and it was okay without being excellent. I didn't taste much salted caramel and the filo dough was a touch dry. The others in my party enjoyed their entrees. Service was on the poor side. Our server seldom came to the table and drink refills never came. Came during the yellow phase of Covid19, which means we were only allowed to eat outdoor (not something to complain about). The server obv has been there for years; he's very knowledgeable with the menu which makes the decision process much quicker. Everything was fresh from their fried calamari to octopodi. Restaurant week review: 2.5 stars for the food 4 stars for the ambience of the restaurant and enthusiasm for the waiter Ambience: Came with a friend, walk-in just prior to 5PM - we called ahead of time since there weren't any reservations available online and they said they were going to be closed to walk in's after 5PM, although much of the restaurant was quite empty when we came in right beforehand. Service: Kind waiter, very enthusiastic, food came out slightly delayed and unfortunately cold for all three courses. Food: Appetizer: Spanakoppita - I think this traditional Greek dish was probably the most par-for-expectation of the meal - there was nothing wrong with it, it was pretty classic, warm, filling, tasted to what you would want from this Charcoal grilled octopus - the octopus could have been more tender, it was on the colder side like it had been left out, the garnish of capers, peppers and red wine vinaigrette could have packed a deeper punch. I think the capers added a nice touch but I was left wanting more of a unique flavor profile, it tasted overall bland and unmemorable. Entrees: Lamb chops - this was probably the better part of the meal - 3 chops - well seasoned, well cooked medium rare, left me wanting more Lavraki - sea bass - honestly this could have been any white fish from any restaurant - it was underwhelming in taste and also a bit cold. Dessert - our waiter was raving about the Baklava and I think it was fine, just again, not standout. The scoop of vanilla gelato again could have had a greater flavor to it, it was again forgettable. The ravani lemon cake - it was like a Betty Crocker mix of lemon cake, not particularly moist, not too dense but just not up to restaurant week quality. There was an okay lemony flavor, but it didn't really melt in your mouth or ooze with that end of the meal goodness you want from a set meal. So it's not errrrday that I give a place 5 stars but Estia blew my fucking socks off and out of the water. So I'm a wannabe points bitch with my credit card because who's not trying to get some free bizz class upgrades, na'mean? I got an AmEx card and one of the deals was $20 back for $100 spent which is a damn good deal if you ask me. We made a rez to celebrate finishing a tough rotation on Sunday evening at 6pm. We arrived promptly at 6pm and were taken to our seats. We were frankly enamored with the decor and ambiance of the dining room. My little feta cube remarked on the fact that even the CEILING is cool. I believe there is decorative rope somewhere. Overall, the interior design has a very rustic feel. The service is impeccable, as would be expected from a restaurant of this caliber. The menu is very large, almost comically so. There's a few cocktails, nothing particularly tugged at my heart strings but there was one cocktail with berry-infused vodka, simple syrup, and sparkling wine on top. This was served in a champagne flute and thus the volume was disappointing. The flavor was a bit rough around the edges. I didn't feel compelled to order another. The food, on the other hand, is absolutely spectacular. We ordered a few appetizers: the cheese saganaki, spread pikilia (three spreads with pita, we chose tzatziki, htipiti which is roasted red peppers, cayenne, and feta, and potato skordalia which is potato and garlic). The cheese saganaki is literally kefalograviera cheese (whatever that is) that is LITERALLY SET ON FIRE. This is one of the best things I have ever eaten in my entire life. The cheese develops this absolutely incredible little crust. The spreads were also unbelievable. The tzatziki was incredibly creamy and delicious. The potato one was also fucking bomb as was the htipiti (try pronouncing that to the waiter lmao). They were so smooth and flavorful. I'd even eat CELERY with that shit. I also ordered the kale salata with baby kale, sliced apples, crispy chickpeas, olives, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and grated feta. The dressing was extremely light and the salad overall was refreshing. It was a huge quantity and I was unable to finish it all. Additionally as a side I ordered the greek fried potatoes which are essentially thick-cut french fries seasoned and topped with grated kefalograviera (whatever that is again but I am now tempted to look it up on google) cheese. Was delicious and right amount of breading - calamari can be rubbery but this was tender. Customer service was spot on and wished I remember the servers name in the bar area- but he was a young guy with floppy hair and a mustache- he was great - and despite being extremely busy he checked in, answered my questions about the theater (I was headed to my first show), and you could even see his patience and kindness to coworkers. Came for restaurant week for the lamb chops and have to say was pretty disappointed about the experience. Favorite thing of the night: THE SANGRIA. Disappointing thing: how bare bones everything was. Mussels came with no toast or side bread. Literally mussels with red sauce in a bowl with all the cheese in the middle of one mussel. Spanakopita - 1 pie slice on the side of a barren plate. Branzino - just one huge fish (not entirely deboned btw!!) and no veggies or sauce or anything. At least the Lamb chops came with a side of potatoes. Service and ambience were good but for how excited I was to go there for RW, I was pretty let down. Regular things looked pretty overpriced (would you pay $47 for 3 lamb chops?? Horta was overcooked and needed olive oil and a bit of salt. Great cuisine uses fresh ingredients complimented by herbs and spices not overwhelmed by them. I was going to a show Saturday night with friends, and a group of us went to Estia pre-show for dinner. I was worried about getting a reservation, but the restaurant is so large that I was able to book a reservation and didn't have to do it too far in advance. They also have a great theater prix fixed menu that's three courses for $35. It's really a great deal to go during this time because otherwise, Estia can be pretty expensive. I likely wouldn't go there unless it was before a show. They have really good appetizers! I've had their chips, which are really really good for just being chips. For dinner, I ordered the calamari sauteed, which was also really good, especially since I've never had calamari sauteed before. The lamb shank dish was also delicious. This is a very large restaurant space in general, however it is well separated into various dinning areas with a higher plateau dinning area that seemed a little quieter and cozier than the main dinning area! The space is majestic and well decorated with various reminders of Greece and other Mediterranean decorations. There is a display of ancient pottery downstairs on your way to the restrooms and the private group dinning area. The service was very good with an attentive servers and hosting crew. Very professional overall. The menu is split into theater specials and and individual plate dinner. The Theater menu is a great deal if you think you can eat all that, at $40 per person! Some of the items on the individual menu are not present on the Theater menu. Reservation was easy made via Open Table for post theatre dinner after seeing Les Mis. The restaurant was huge and colorful whose decor whisks one away to a cafe in the Mediterranean. My partner and I made the most of Estia's options with the theater menu comprised of an appetizer, entree and dessert. Vera took care of us and brought complimentary bread with hummus and radish. As a starter, we ordered the Spanakopita (Spinach, leeks, scallions and feta baked in housemade phyllo dough) and Keftedes (lamb and beef meatballs stuffed with feta in marinara sauce). For entree, we got Roasted Chicken (Roasted leg and breast served over caramelized onion and yogurt orzo with a lemon thyme jus) and Fish of the Day (grilled seabass) with vegetable risotto. For dessert, we decided on the lemon sorbet and Karidopita (Traditional honey walnut cake). Every single plate was incredible, tasty and delicious with the portion reasonable. I went here for a group dinner in their banquet hall. I was not greeted by the host or given a farewell. The waiter took everyone's drink order at the table except me. When I asked to order a drink later as they walked by they seemed very aggregated to have to bring me a drink and slammed it down so hard it almost sloshed out of the glass. The waiters kept bumping into me as they walked past. Overall I found the service to be very poor to the point of almost being hostile. The food was mediocre. Being that the menu was controlled for restaurant week, I feel as though I got my money's worth with the 3 courses (we also ordered a phenomenal Barbera wine per the recommendation of the waitress). Last month I came back to Estia for a birthday dinner, and I can't believe I waited for so long to return. It was Saturday and the place was packed - naturally, make reservations! We were lucky enough to get a private dining room, which suited us fine. Sometimes you want to have a conversation without yelling across the table, right? We loved David, our server. He checked on us regularly, answered our questions about the menu, and got us whatever we needed. Everything was delicious. I had the halibut, and tried the lobster pasta. It was warm and soft with some crispy texture on the outside. For food, I ordered oysters, lamb chop, octopodi, spanakopita, and lavraki to name a few. Everything was delicious!! So I'm gonna give Estia a 4, an average of 2 different visits (one was a 5/5 but the other was a 3/5). My first time at Estia was years ago for restaurant week and their lamb chops were one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten in Philly. More recently, I visited a second time. The lamb chops were a tad too salty this time so I was disappointed by that. My favorite item from the recent visit was the cheese saganaki which had nice flavor. My party did not enjoy the spanakopita. It was pretty bland. My friend loves spanakopita so she was excited to order it but she was very underwhelmed. I wouldn't recommend ordering that appetizer. We got the spreads pikilla, which came w/ 3 different spreads and pita. The spreads were pretty good! I've had better but they weren't bad. The fried calamari was one of the better calamari's I've had and the dipping sauce was really good too. The grilled shrimp was scrumptious but overpriced for just 4 pieces. Unfortunately the pasta ala grecca was very dry. It seemed like it was reheated. My partner got the chicken which was tasty and came w/ a flavorful orzo. I probably won't go back to Estia for a little while b/c of how the most recent visit went, with so many inconsistencies. We had a wonderful dinner here for my sisters birthday! The service was great and all of the food tasted great. The chicken lemon soup and the estia chips were AMAZING. I really wanted to take an extra order home with me but luckily had leftovers. For entrees we had the salmon, roasted chicken with yogurt and lamb chops. We came here with a reservation on a Friday night for a friend's 21st birthday. The ambiance and service was good. The entrees were only okay but the appetizers were great. The problem is that they are not transparent about the things that they charged us for. For example, we brought a small cake and they offered to cut and serve it for us. This was an additional charge added per person on our reservation (we reserved for 11 and only 10 of us were able to make it). They charged us $3/person ($33 total even though we were only a party of 10) to cut and serve a cake. Also, at the end of our dinner, they brought us a dessert platter that we did not order. The waiter said, "this is dessert for you guys, happy birthday." I would like to reiterate, that we did not order this dessert platter and it was $26. Overall, the experience was okay. The problem is not the fact the restaurant charges for cake cutting and does not give free dessert for birthdays. The problem is that they are not transparent about these charges and it adds up on the receipt. read more

Everything is special and great about this restaurant. The entire staff goes above and beyond with the service they offer and you can see the care and thoughtfulness that goes into the preparation of the food. The price fix Theater Meal menu is excellent especially for the amount of food and the variety that you can choose from. Most of us arrived on time for our reservation that started as a party of eleven that eventually ended up as a party of seven. The staff was wonderful in making the necessary adjustments for our group. Five of us arrived promptly at our scheduled reservation one additional person came with in 15 minutes which is acceptable considering it's Center City. However 45 minutes into the meal two stragglers came along one understood that the accommodating them maybe difficult the second not so much. However the staff was willing to make accommodations and adjustments in any way they could to make ALL happy or satisfied. The offered move us to a larger table although the restaurant was extremely busy and full of other customers. KUDOS to them! KATELYN IS THE BEST EVER!!!!! As for my meal from beginning to end everything was absolutely PERFECT. Very rarely can I say that word but in this case I can, it was PERFECT! I went with the price fix Theater Meal starting with Estia Mezedakia a meatball stuffed with feta cheese, a phyllo filled veggie pastry and field greens with a light and tasty dressing, the lamb chops with potatoes both of which I can't begin to describe the deliciousness, they were cooked to perfection and just simply delicious! I've never had Walnut honey cake but I am now a fan. I attended the theater often and have only ever enjoyed the bar, big mistake on my part.
