Falafel on Wheels is a dream! As an almost completely vegan institution (besides, I think, the hard boiled egg which can be added to/removed from the sabich), I had a field day with my order, opting to try the falafel bowl, falafel pita and sabich pita. Knowing that their focus is on their falafel I expected it to be good, but I didn't expect to be as wowed as I was! My falafel bowl came out first (super fast, might I add) and I went straight to dipping the falafel in their house garlic sauce-- it was the perfect snack. Although by the time the pita's were served I had already filled myself up on the falafel bowl, I still greatly enjoyed the unique flavors of both. The sabich pita relies primarily on the smokiness of the eggplant for it's flavor, whereas the falafel pita sees the addition of tomtato, cucumber, cabbage and tahini which greatly compliments the creamy, nutty texture of the falafel. The dishes at Falafel on Wheels are so hearty that it doesn't take long to feel satisfied, so I brought my entrees home for my friends to help me finish. Although Falafel on Wheels is a food truck I was lucky enough to score one of the tiny tables they place along the sidewalk, and I enjoyed watching other patrons stop by to chat with the business owners. It's clear that this spot has become a valley institution! Even though they aren't a brick-and-mortar, Falafel on Wheels still has a sense of community you might not expect from a food truck. Because the truck is stationed alongside the Bevmo parking lot there is plenty of parking, which means you have no excuse to not stop by! Awesome, fully vegetarian food truck! The falafels were exceptionally fresh and tasty. Got the falafel pita sandwich along with fried eggplant added -- it was delicious. This was the chef's suggestion when I explained that I wanted Sabich but without the egg... so he suggested getting the falafel pita with eggplant. Super helpful in making it vegan. Also I wanted 4 extra falafels for my toddler and the owner very kindly accommodated that and charged accordingly (as opposed to $6 for 6 falafels). I love this place. I used to work pretty close and it was an easy lunch for me during the week. I would go at least once a week. Now I'm further into Studio City but will still make the drive when I have a longer break. Not nearly enough falafel for me these days. I miss them! Always made fresh when I order. I saw another foodie post this on their Instagram earlier this week and when I saw how close it was I just had to get there. The truck was extremely easy to find and parking a breeze. I was warmly welcomed by the owner from behind the window who was helping another customer but ensured I knew he was aware I was waiting. I ordered the falafel pita ($8??) what a bargain!! It didn't take too long and my order was ready - fresh out of the fryer. I ordered mine with a little hot sauce and an extra side of tahini sauce (definitely recommend this if you like it saucy). I decided to get mine to go and then drove the torturous 11 minutes home with the smell of hot falafel filling my car. My pita was properly stuffed with plenty of falafel - they don't skimp!! The first bite I was in heaven. This has to be the best falafel I've eaten in years. Crispy on the outside, perfectly soft in the middle. Every bite was devoured and I was sad for it to end. I would recommend this spot for anyone who loves falafel that doesn't leave you feeling a little bloaty like some other places do (looking at you Fala Bar). Got recommended this spot when I was running some errands so decided to give it a shot. Owner was chopping it up with a customer in his language and I could tell he had a real good connection with his customers. While I was waiting for my falafel pita to be prepared I mentioned to the both of them I had never tried falafel and they both became excited for me to be trying it. The owner handed me some extra falafels with sauce while I waited so I could try it and the customer let me try one of the other potato appetizer thing he had. Got one of their foreign grape drinks as well. All amazing. Shout out to the both of them for being so friendly. A lady showed up right before I left, same deal never tried it and I could tell the same hospitality was about to unfold as I left. Will def swing by again! read more
