I used to come to Family Tree just about every week when I was in my 20s, not sure why I stopped coming but I decided to stop by with a friend last week. We both ordered the same thing, the souvlaki breakfast with chicken, eggs, home fries with onions.. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the size of the tenders was perfect, I'm not a fan of huge chicken tenders. At first sight I assumed my eggs didn't have cheese as I asked for but the put the cheese in the middle of the egg, which more looks like an omelette than some scrambled eggs and the potatoes were great. The downfall to my experience on this day was I feel like when you order a souvlaki breakfast that a pita and feta cheese would come with it. I've been to several places and that is how I always received my meal. So I'm not sure if my waitress wasn't focused on my particular table to notice what was missing or what but when I have to ask for items that should come with my meal I tend to get a little aggy. We came here for a quick bite to eat & were seated promptly. Our server was friendly and attentive, and our food came out fast. My mother ordered the spinach & feta egg white omelette, and I got the falafel wrap with fries. My mom raved about the omelette (which was huge) and eagerly scarfed down the hash browns and toast as well. My falafel wrap was ok; the falafel tasted fresh and was well seasoned, but I wish it had a little extra tzatziki sauce. Overall, it was ok for the price. I was in the mood for lemonade, but they didn't have any freshly made, so I got fresh squeezed orange juice. It tasted fine but it was warm! No bueno. I just had a Moussaka dinner here and two of the Greek potatoes they gave me were totally rotten! I had to bring it to the attention of another waitress she than took my plate back and my waitress brought my plate back and never said sorry for serving you those potatoes. She never once came back to our table and asked if we wanted a refill until she brought our check. I have never had such a bad waitress in my life ! My family went here for lunch and I would say it was mediocre. I had the Greek Souvlaki with Gyro with fries. The fries were good, very crisp. The sandwich could have used more sauce. We also ordered a baklava cheesecake which was better then lunch. I don't think I would come back. read more

Family Tree has good Greek food. One of us had a souvlaki salad (fresh lettuce, tasty cubes of beef, but no pepperoncinis which is unusual for this type of salad). Another had the pot roast (huge portion, tasty). Would order again! And two of us had the liver and onions (flavorful, a bit too much butter). I ordered medium rare, and it came raw. I cannot believe anyone would give this restaurant anything less than five stars. This is our go to restaurant. From the minute you walk in the door you are treated like family. The wait staff is amazing as is their food. I always get the open souvlaki with falafel and it never disappoints. When you walk in to family tree, you are greeted by a pleasant lady at the front door. All around you, you see families enjoying breakfast laughing and enjoying the company of each other. Family tree is truly a vibe like non other. The staff are extremely friendly and very prompt. The food is quite generous for the amount you pay as well! We've been on the road for a week and this restaurant wins the prize for the worst restaurant. It's a big diner. How can they mess up omelettes? Well my Spanish omelette was eggs with cold salsa on top. After my wife has nearly finished her spinach omelette (way over cooked and dry) the waitress finally came over to check on us and I returned the plate. The replacement (waitress said they had to try twice more) was better but still pretty greasy. As we walked out the person at the cash register asked how everything was. We said not great. First and last time I will ever eat here. Here goes. We walked in and the interior looked like any other diner. It was spacious and from first impression, I thought I'd like it here. Once we sat down to look at the menu, I noticed the restaurant prides itself on specializing in Greek food, so I immediately had my heart set on the gyro (open platter). Here is where it gets kind of shady. The waitress comes over to take our order. She wasn't particular friendly, but she wasn't really nasty either. She was as straight-forward as can be, which I guess is okay, although, I do believe diners, by nature, should be a little more friendly. Diners come from a humble place, where customers are seen as family, hence Family Tree. Anyways, I diverge. She takes our orders then asks me if I'd like tzatziki sauce. I said yes. She asked me what I wanted to drink. I said orange juice. When the food comes out, the gyro was tasteless. It was barely seasoned, and most of the dish consisted of the bed of iceberg lettuce. At this point, I'm disappointed I paid $8.99. Or so I thought. Then the bill came. The orange juice that I ordered could not have been anymore than 4oz, but according to the bill, that was their "large." $3.00 there. Okay, fine. The tzatziki sauce, however, was another $3.00. I usually don't make a fuss about these kinds of things, but to charge THAT much for tzatziki sauce is ridiculous, especially for something USUALLY included. Quite frankly, I felt ripped-off and thought what that waitress did was dirty and dishonest because I was under the impression the sauce was included. She could have said something along the lines of, "for a little extra, would you like so-and-so?" Maybe then I wouldn't have minded so much. Now that I even examine their online menu closer, there's an option for a smaller version for 99 cents, but she did not even bother to ask me. All she was after was a larger bill, so that her tip would be larger. My advice: take your business somewhere that deserves it. read more

The prices are great and there is a huge parking lot. I used to come here often but ever since Family Tree's sister restaurant, Milos opened on Main St in Williamsville, I stopped coming here. Family Tree needs a massive spring cleaning. The windows are dirty all year round. The tree in the middle of the restaurant is cool but so dusty. Mid someone shook the tree, cakes of dust would come off onto the food of the unfortunate customers seated nearby. I don't hang my coat up along the walls because the top of the wooden coat rack is layered with dust. The service usually isn't very good. I heard this older women who was also our waitress trash talk customers to another group of customers. This place is definitely comfortable with its established customer base of older folks. Don't know how they'll survive in 10 years because the younger people aren't coming here. Good thing the owner has Milos. read more

They have a huge restaurant and delicious Greek food. Any Greek food you could think of and more is on their menu. The service is great the waitresses are very attentive making sure we were happy. The grape leaves sounded interesting so we got them to try considering I have never had them. They were filled with a rice mixture wrapped in the grape leave had a bite to them but were very good. We got the chicken solvloki dinner and there was enough food for 2 meals. So much chicken about 6-8 pieces and about 6-8 quartered potatoes. The salad filled half the plate. Add dressing and you have a tasty Greek dinner. Even though I was full I couldn't leave without having the rice pudding. They seemed really busy but couldn't really tell because they had a lot of servers.If anything go here for just dessert. So creamy and delicious. This large place is in my regular rotation. Seldom a wait. Best chicken souvlaki in the Buff. The chicken is perfectly marinated, and grilled to a good sear. I typically order the dinner, which comes on a platter, not a plate, brimming with a fresh salad, topped with grated feta, tomatoes, olives and onions, and your choice of a potato or rice. I often opt for the rice, but when I have had the Greek potatoes I have enjoyed them. There are always so many cars here, we thought it must be good. Err... not so much. Our food was adequate and not too expensive. My gyro salad though was more like ground beef logs than gyro meat. Do not hold an event here! My grandpa just passed away and his favorite restaurant was the Family Tree. We hoped to have the dinner after the memorial service there a week from today (the Saturday after Thanksgiving) and so we took time out of calling relatives to book it. At first we were so happy, not only did Derek say that the back room was available but also that we did not need a deposit because funerals take priority. Imagine our utter and complete shock and dismay when four hours later we received a phone call saying we were being bumped from the space because we didn't put a deposit down. Even though we explained that we tried to put a deposit down but was told the fee was waived they said "can't do anything for you." This is an extremely trying time for my family and the least you could do is honor your word and prior commitment. We are now left scrambling to find a place. I am disgusted at the behavior and management of this whole situation and can guarantee that none of my family and friends will ever be eating here again. A whole group of us met for brunch here today. Sure, the place is kind of old fashioned (in both decor and clientele), but for me that just kind of adds to its charm. The service was great, the menu was quite complete (as those in most Greek diners are), the portions were large, the prices were fair, and the food was all very tasty. Not being a fan of eggs (and LOVING Greek salads) I ordered an open garden souvlaki with a side order of home fries. The "salad" was a delicious fresh mixture of iceberg and romaine lettuce with tomatoes, onions, green peppers and lots and lots of crumbled feta cheese. The only thing missing for me was a couple of olives. The dressing (on the table in a little bottle) was absolutely perfect. Wonderful olive oil with just the right amount of seasoning. The accompanying pita was fresh, warm, and lightly buttered. And, the home fries (the home fries!!!) were just the right balance of tender and crisp, and they were seasoned to perfection! Endless hot coffee was brought to the table by the cheerful waitress who didn't mind (heck, she even suggested it!) separate checks for our group. There has been a Greek-run family restaurant/diner on this spot for at least 50 years (as of 2013). Though the name has changed (previously it was a location of The Towne, and prior to that, the Syracuse [after the Ancient Greek city on Sicily], the faces remain the same. Most of the patrons seem to have been here for the same duration. There's even a bit of a historic relic at the Family Tree. For a brief period during the 1990s, state and/or local regulations permitted smoking in a section that was in its own room that had its own ventilation. In compliance, the Family Tree has a glassed-off smaller dining room in the corner. Prior to the glass, I think there had been a curtain. Over the years, the quality has gone up or down gradually. But the last time I was there (December 2012), I left satisfied. But part of that satisfaction comes from knowing what to expect. So, you should expect: - an old, family restaurant/diner atmosphere - iceberg lettuce in your salad - OK egg dishes. You should get: - Fish Fry, crisp but not greasy, and apparently discounted on Fridays - Greek Potatoes, cooked in lemon and olive oil - Avgolemono Soup - Psari Plaki, which is baked fish topped in a spiced tomato sauce But be warned: they put raisins in the rice pudding. read more

Hello. Came here for breakfast at about 10am with my family just this week. Very busy place on the weekends! Nice hostess, greeted us politely and took us to our table. On the way there, I over heard a man loudly scold a woman to use a tray-the man looked to be the manager/owner. The server replied "I know, but I'm really busy". She seemed to be a seasoned waitress who was tending her tables just fine; he just wants her to do things a certain way. Understandable! But I should leave thinking you are a dominating dictator boss and I think your employees hate working for you. Our waitress was not the best. If you have been suffering from food service gyro overkill, this diner has the cure! Real ground beef and lamb seasoned with garlic, oregano, and onion, shaped into long patties, cooked through, covered in deliciously sharp feta and wrapped up inside your fluffy omelette. Ignore the hashbrowns, they're nothing special, and get a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice on the side. Protein and vitamins! Took forever to get our food. Everything was decent tasting but nothing really all too special. I'd come back for a different meal though. I don't even want to write this review because I don't want to admit I went to this place. Usually my boyfriend and I are up early on days we want to go out for breakfast, but last Sunday we slept in and didn't wind up going out for breakfast until around 10:30, which means every place we went to was really busy and a lot of people were out of church, etc. So in driving around getting increasingly hungry, we decided to stop at Family Tree. I don't remember what made us go to Family Tree after driving around and checking out other places and passing as people were standing outside waiting for tables. I told myself that although it wasn't a hip and cool place to eat, who cares as long as they would have good breakfast, and if a place has been around for 50 years or whatever then there must be SOMETHING redeeming about them. As mentioned by other Yelpers the clientele is mostly older people, which doesn't always necessarily mean a place is bad (see: McPartlan's Corner) Anyway, we went in and were immediately seated - the dining room is huge. The menu was very limited for breakfast stuff, basically french toast or omelets or some greek egg dishes, which being that I was in the mood for an omelette was okay with me. My boyfriend got french toast and water and I got a simple cheese omlette and coffee. The coffee tasted really old but I was just happy to have some. Our food came out pretty quick. IT WAS GROSS. My boyfriend's french toast seemed half raw and was bland and mushy with a giant glob of (maybe fake??) butter that tasted off. Just that he actually put the watered down "maple syrup" on that they offered him shows me how gross he thought it was being that he hates maple syrup. We figured there really was no point in sending it back because we both had the feeling that wouldn't solve anything and it wouldn't be any better. My cheese omelette was okay. Not horribly gross like the french toast but not neessarily good. It was sort of greasy but it was cooked okay. Now, the hash browns on the other hand.... disgusting. They were super starchy, cooked weird, and sort of tasted like maybe they were from canned potatoes or something. There was just something that was gross or old or just funny about them. At least I had toast that was okay? Our breakfast was only $14 which is really cheap, but next time I will opt to wait 40 minutes for a table and pay double at a place that isn't nasty. read more

This place is overall the best Greek restaurant around IMHO. Sure, are there one or two that do a better job with quality of food (if so then not by much) or less expensive. But for cost, quality of the food and flavor, it doesn't get better than this restaurant. Today's fare was a gyro omelette with home fries and a Greek burger with added bacon and spinach. Both were delicious. The feta here deserves special mention. They use a feta that has the perfect mix of salty, sharp with a buttery mild finish. I've never found a better feta than what they use here. Some nice bonuses to this restaurant include fresh squeezed orange juice, an excellent menu selection, a cooking staff that does a good job with preparation and plating and almost all the wait staff are pleasant and accommodating. Again a special note on that last thought. As many may know I have 2 children with some major issues/allergies to dairy. Being children, they have on a number of occasions, changed their mind on meal choices, making our server check on a different dish to verify it is or can be made dairy safe.
