Don't waste your time or your money here. My manicurist didn't even listen when I gave her my preferences. All my nails came out a different length and she slathered on the polish so carelessly and unevenly that most of them didn't dry fully under the UV lamp. When I got to my car, the gel polish started coming off where they applied too much of it. I had to go to another salon to get them redone. read more

This place is a gem. Very quiet and relaxing. The girl who did my pedicure was a doll, rubbed my feet longer than any pedicure I've ever had in my life! It was perfect! The other reviews complaining on here are hood rats who just like to complain. It looks filthy and outdated, the pedicures are maybe 15 to 20 minutes long and not very good. I had to go home and cut my nails!! The instruments are barely cleaned with some alcohol. I LOVE this place! Been going for many years. They always do me a favor by removing removing my painful ingrown toenails. I get to soak my feet in the warm water, get a chair massage and get a wonderful leg and foot massage. The people are very competent and extremely friendly. Liners are used in the tubs for, I don't know what but they feel good too! As in any nail salon, there are many colors from which to choose but Song always treats me to flowers too. I have been going here for years and though it isn't fancy, the prices are right on and I like it just fine. All of the girls are really nice and do a great job on my little toesies. They give an awesome leg massage too, which does me in every time. There are ton's of nail polish colors to choose from and they are all good brands that stay on for a long time and don't chip off easily. A spa pedicure is only $18 and I think it's one of the best bargains in La Jolla. They take walk-in's or you can call for an appt. I usually just walk in, or sometimes I call to see if I can walk over within the hour, it's never been a problem. Even on Saturdays! Update 5.15.08: OH MY GOSH! I just went to Fantasy Nails yesterday as a little treat for my flip flopped feet and they have BRAND NEW spa pedicure chairs. They are just like the massage chairs that Sharper Image sells, you know, the ones that feel like a huge ol' Swedish Helga is inside the chair massaging the hell outta' your back?! Yeah...the kind that cost a fortune you wish you could afford? Well now for only $18 plus a tip you can! I'm swear I'm going back every day this week just so I can sit my butt in the chair and get a massage! I cannot tell you how terrible the calluses on my heals have been since I cannot touch my toes for so long (now in my last month of pregnancy!). She worked magic and removed ALL of it! After checking Vannie's reviews, I made an appointment with her. TOTALLY dissapointed. She was very rude. Removing my gel manicure, she left my fingers bruised and cut. Worst manicure ever, I had to go somewhere else to have my nails look good. She even applied the nail polish uneven. In top of all of these, when I paid, she didn't give me my change, just said Thank you! She tipped herself without asking!!! Very average nail salon. I wanted a shellac polish so I picked one from the side labeled shellac only to discover it wasn't going to be gel after she started. That was my fault and I should have checked but I'm a believer that businesses should be as organized as possible. They give nice hand and neck massages with your manicure so that is a plus. The main reason I am giving three stars is because my manicure wasn't quality (see photo). There were patches left and my nails weren't shaped the same way. I saw some loyal local customers in the salon so they must be alright but my overall impression when I left was that this place is pretty mediocre. read more

Eeee! This is what I get for straying from my lovely Essential Nails in PB. Knowing Essential Nails would probably be booked last-minute, I popped into this Bird Rock salon for a quick mani. The vibe there is totally cattle-call, and also cold, unfriendly and unwelcoming. No greeting and no eye contact. Most importantly, the arm massage and manicure were totally subpar -- the polish was uneven (I had to point out mistakes) and chipped within a day. Don't waste your money. read more

I complained and she said that she was too busy. She said I had to leave and call her later..??? like I have all the time in the world to take care of my nails. she started yelling at me. So when I first moved into the area my mom and I always went here becuase it was walking distance and the prices were right. Now, a few year later my mom won't step foot into that place and I think I probably won't either. I get my nails (mani/pedi) done about two or three times a year, so when I go I like to relax an come out feeling great. I have no idea why I went there today when the last time I almost walked out. When ever I go I call to make an appointment. I get there and still end up waiting at least twenty minutes before even sitting in a chair. Then for some reason I get the worst girl woking that shift. Today I got stabbed constantly in my toes with nail clippers and other tools while she was clipping and filing my toes. I asked to have anoter lady to my manicure and was told I would have to wait. I said I would and every five minutes after, the owner was pushing this horrible women to do my manicure. Finally, she got the idea that I really wanted another lady to do my manicure. After her rushing, not even cleaning the dirt from underneath my nails and not even massaging my hands with lotion she half assed my maicure job so much she didn't even charge me the full price. They were rude and unwelcoming saying that they were just too busy for me every five minutes. I will make sure to steer clear of them. This is not the first time they have treated me so rudly and I have no idea why I even went their today, if you do decide to get your nails done their, which I highly discourage, make sure to come early, not have dirty finger nails and not have expectations.
