So I have never gotten a great vibe from this place but the food has been good in the past so I figured I would give it another try. I was planning on getting a pizza but the lady at the front desk with a disingenuous tone recommended the Pastrami sandwich. Reluctantly I took her advice and waited at the bar for my food. While waiting at the bar, I noticed the woman making my sandwich was texting on her phone and then proceeded to make my sandwich without washing her hands which took me by complete surprise. I had to run some other errands and was not in the right headspace to make a complaint right then and there. Just a half an hour to an hour later though I decided to call in to get a refund and to throw the sandwich away. By this time I was far from the restaurant but the unsanitary and unprofessionalism really set in. I called in to let a manager know what had happened in hopes that they would understand that this was not acceptable and give me a refund. However, not only did this so called manager refuse to give me a refund, unless I drove all the way back there for them to just throw the sandwhich away anyways, she was absolutely rude and appalling and did not own any accountability for the unsanitary conduct that took place in the kitchen. Any place that is running a professional and upstanding business would have no problem giving a refund if a customer explained to them what had happened for me. One would hope that they would be very understanding of the situation and would do whatever they could to make it right. This person, did the exact opposite, not only did they refuse to give me a refund but they were extremely rude and then hung up the phone on me. When we finally were able to drive back to the restaurant at the end of the day to return the sandwich because they refused to refund me unless I brought it back in person, the night shift manager was even more rude then the lady on the phone. When we got inside and we were trying to explain to this lady what a bad experience we had and that I need my refund, she immediately starting shouting at us with insults and pointing at us in a very hostile and threatening way. After the lady verbally assaulted us in front of a lot of other customers she grabbed the receipt out of my hand, ripping the receipt and stomped off to make the return without even letting us know what she was doing. Furthermore, she took about 15 minutes to do the refund which in reality should only take about 2 minutes tops. When she finally returned to give us the refund she verbally assaulted us some more in front of a new group of customers walking in. I am absolutely blown away by the disgusting and horrible service this place thinks they can get away with because their establishment is in Marin and assume their entitled behavior will give them a pass. I'm sorry but you disrespected the wrong customer and I'm pretty sure that any other customer knowing this information would not want to eat at such an establishment. This place should be replaced by a restaurant that knows how to treat people with respect and dignity instead of discrimination, hostility and overpriced food. They should be called the Barnshop instead of the Farmshop because thats a better representation of the type of service one should expect from here. This is a perfect example of why a beautiful place like Marin gets the bad reputation that it has of being pretentious, rude and entitled. Major thumbs down!!! read more

I'll start by saying I had the salmon and it was delicious! I won't complain about pricing. We all have a choices on why we go out to eat. After 38 years in the hospitality business, I'll say that I always look at the entire dining experience and that includes how I'm treated at a new restaurant I go to. I would venture to say I am very good at reading staff/servers actions and attitudes. Yesterday I asked for water no ice, shouldn't be a problem right? The exasperated sigh to my request was not a welcome start. At the end of our lunch, my guest and I were so busy engaged in our conversation, that I took my time to sign my check...my server actually said to me in a rude exasperated tone "I have to cash out and you need to sign your check". Needless to say, my comment to my guest was "Now THERE'S an employee I would NEVER hire!" Now, you may say, well, maybe you misunderstood? Maybe he didn't mean it as it sounded...a few minutes later, he actually came back to the table and apologized to me so he was aware. So there you have it. We visited last night after a time away and we were impressed with the selection and service. Other family members have been recently and loved it. So we are back! The drinks and food were amazing and the desserts were fantastic! (Sleeper is the Coconut Meringue). I even had an alcohol free cocktail (try the tequila one with the black salt) and it was beyond my expectations! I had two! We had a good variety of things to taste and explored the menu a bit. This is Farm Shop, not Toast. I wasn't going to write anything - as it is kind of passive aggressive to do so on Yelp, but given that two other people also wrote about 1-star service on 1/13, last night, perhaps those in charge might want to know from another table how off things were. Basically, the service was as you'd want for the first half of the meal, and then it went south. Example: my cocktail was well-finished when my steak was delivered. Would have liked to have had the option to get a glass of wine. A few bites into my steak, having not seen the waiter for some time, I had to ask the host for the wine list, and then when the server did took my order, he went over to the bar, and chatted up someone for a good five minutes before keying in an order. Maybe it was my wine, maybe not. But It was another 5+ minutes before the wine arrived. The meal was 90% consumed. On its own, reasonably forgivable. But there's more. You know those nights where a restaurant is packed and you just want to get someone's attention? It was like that, but the place was half-full. And this is Farm Shop, not Toast. So when it came time to for the next course, the wait staff basically vanished. It was a birthday meal, which they acknowledged upon arrival. Typically one would anticipate a candle, a sparkler, something to punctuate the moment. Just a rock-hard merengue which I would advise not ordering. It was another 20 minutes before we had the check, and only because I again had to find the host to take care of it. And when we got our to-go bag dropped on our table, yes, dropped, everyone noticed that it was not exactly the politest moment, though 'happy birthday my man!' was uttered by the very chill waiter at that point. It's hard to imagine ever recommending this place now - for a $400+ meal, you'd hope the attention to detail would be of primary consideration. If the management sees an opportunity to improve upon things, fantastic. read more

I've actually come here three times lately: once for pre-movie drinks, where we got a great bartender who made us some really good cocktails and sent us off with to-go containers; a second time for post-baseball game drinks, where we got a bartender who seemed confused and didn't know how to make anything, and then overcharged us; and most recently for dinner. We've visited for dinner before, with mixed results. This time, the food and wine both were excellent. We shared a caramelized Meyer lemon pizza, which was interesting and different and tasted pretty good. For entrees, she had the king salmon, with a fava bean favetta that was pretty amazing. The wine glass pours were also very stingy. When we sat at our table for dinner, the restaurant was totally empty except for our table (fully booked?). It didn't fill up for several hours. The service was really a mixed bag between too attentive (felt pushy, rushed) and being totally ignored for 30+ minutes. The waitperson hardly said a word, no personality and made us feel like we were unwelcome. Very few members of the staff were friendly and the restaurant as a whole had a bad attitude. Atmosphere was good. Outdoor seating was very pleasant. Wild Mushroom Pizza was really good. Crust was chewy ar the right level and thin. Lots of flavourful mushrooms with some green on top. We finished it all. Sunday brunch Pastrmi dish with poached egg was disappointing. Pastrami was really fatty with can work in a sandwich but not as a meat on top of broccoli. Their famous crab pasta is covered with spicy red sauce with (boxed?) pasta that completely drowns the taste of the crab, and the walnuts give the dish a weird bitter undertone. Ambiance and service get five stars - really nice place/venue and attentive staff. Food was okay. Ordered the frittata w trout and it was kind of bland. Eggs and trout don't have a lot of flavor but I didn't pick up on any special seasoning either. Had to ask for some hot sauce to spice it up. Friends ordered other things including the pastrami dish which I might have enjoyed better. I thought it was a sandwich which I wasn't interested in but it was served another way with eggs. A friend gave me a taste of the pastrami and it was spicy/flavorful. We also ordered a mushroom pizza to share and it too was okay. I've been here a few times already and also been here once during COVID. Overall a great place. The food is solid and good. Great date night spot with cocktails and wine. Cocktails are slightly better than their wine selection. I've taken my mom here once and she liked it. Things I've tried: Chicken is pretty good as it looks to be sous vide'd. Pizzas are good. Crab Spaghetti is probably the best thing on the menu. It's a little bit hard to order when you have kids (I have once and it was hard), so we don't really take our young kids here but the other more family friendly places in the same shopping center. The menu changes seasonally and so it's nice to come back to try something new. They've done a pretty good job using the outdoor communal space at Marin Country Mart for seating and somehow got to use it for their restaurant. (But it kind of sucks for other restaurants and people who want to use that space too). Also, some tables are located in weird spots, like in front of the barbershop. I've also picked up some items in their pantry shop inside the restaurant. Watch out for their scanner as it accidentally scanned everything twice and I had to go back and readjust the bill. read more

A hip and modern restaurant located in the Marin Country Mart shopping center in Larkspur, Farmshop reminds me the of sleek and cool restaurants you would perhaps find in the downtown's of most large cities, but here it is in the homely but sophisticated suburban shopping center in Marin County. Then again, one would argue that Farmshop would represent the burgeoning vibe of Marin County, a sleek and sexy interior with a dimly lit bar as its central focal point. What will also get you is all of the sliding doors and wooden and cement walkways that greet you as you sit down at one of their many cocktail tables alongside their huge banquette against the long wall. Upon examining their beverage menu, one will notice their extensive cocktail list, that goes beyond with their wine list, my friend and I who decided to go for a drink couldn't believe all of the Roses they had on their wine menu, seven in total! My friend went with the 2017 Chateau de Pibarnon Rose from Bandol, France, while I was intrigued with the After Ferry cocktail filled with vodka, strawberry, mint, ginger shrub and prosecco. My cocktail, no doubt named after the Larkspur Landing Ferry Terminal across Sir Francis Drake Boulevard where Marin Country Mart resides. Presented and mixed well my cocktail had an overwhelming strawberry flavor, which is exactly the way I like my festive mixed drinks. To eat, my friend and I decided to split something simple, which at Farmshop nothing is ever simple. We ordered the Bianca pizza topped with four different types of cheeses including smoked mozzarella, Bellwether Farms crescenza cheese, pecorino cheese, aged Parmesan in addition to numerous drizzles of Marshall's Farm honey. A delectable freshly baked wood fired pizza, what made it so unique is that they serve their pizzas with specially made scissors that were perfect for cutting ones own slice. I have never eaten pizza this way but clearly need to do this more often. I loved my experience is much I've added these special pizza scissors to my cart on Amazon! If your sharing a pizza, it gets tricky when splitting it without using your hands. The tip here is to use your clean fork (or ask for another one from your server) and use that to properly cut your pizzas into the slices that you like. Overall, the pizza was a divine combination of flavors thanks to many cheeses that served as toppings, but that divine honey was something I'm going to have to add to many of my slices of pizza moving forward. Farmshop has just two locations one in Santa Monica and this location in Marin so clearly they are aiming for a higher clientele just by judging the neighborhoods they happen to do business in. It's hip, happening, and elegant and definitely needs to be replicated in more cities in the Bay Area, as the quality of the food and cocktails match the ambiance of their interior. On top of being a reasonably priced Italian restaurant makes Farmshop a must visit whenever one is taking the ferry into Larkspur or shopping in one of the loveliest retail centers in the entire Bay Area. read more

They could be so much better since they have some key things that are really great. . It's really frustrating for me to see a business like this that could be doing way better if they could just figure out their customer service. Tables were too close together. Nobody's butt should ever touch my table or bump my drink while I'm trying to eat, but it happened here. Food arriving a very long time before drinks arrive is never good. Serving tables food that sat and ordered after our table ordered (both pizzas) is also a big turn-off. The restaurant itself is beautiful and so is the food but the taste didn't live up to the looks. On to Farmshop. The food was just too heavy and the combinations of items/flavors on plates felt off. Maybe check out the Brunch menu before you sit down. I wasn't thrilled with most of the options when reading through them but I usually have the opposite problem of deciding between too many options. I went with the pastrami and eggs. I love pastrami and while bites were tasty the whole dish was soaked in oil. It felt like they cooked all the veggies in heavy oil PLUS the already rich pastrami in oil. So much oil. I only could eat about a quarter of my plate until it was too much. The bummer was the flavor was tasty if it wasn't covered in so much grease :( I was tempted to complain to the server (who was great!) but was here for a birthday celebration so I felt like I would be making a fuss and pausing everyone else eating. We had a work related holiday party at Farmshop. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience! The service was good and quite prompt. I am a huge water drinker and the level of my glass never went below once quarter full, thanks to the watchful eye of our busser. When I initially arrived at the bar, two of the bartenders were rather meh, but when I moved down the bar to join my group a bit after my arrival, Luigi became our bartender. He was just fabulous! Extremely attentive, friendly and outgoing. He really engages with customers. Loved the "Fieldworks IPA." As to the food, there were some ups and some downs. Here is a brief breakdown: 1. Avocado Hummus - I found this to be fine. It didn't strike me as the "fire" previous reviewers stated. 2. Burrata - This was a win. Extremely creamy and flavorful. 3. Hanger Steak - I thought this was adequate and the sides were quite lovely although the steak was pretty tough. 4. California Tomato Pizza - I didn't try this, but my boss said it was quite good, although he did leave about 1/3 of the pizza on his plate. 5. Gnocchi - Our executive chef reported that the sauce was great, with the addition of the black truffles. However, the gnocchi was made with too much flour, making them quite tough. This was a VERY high priced item so not a win. 6. Oysters/Chicken Liver Mousse - This was my meal and it hit all the right notes. 6 oysters which were cold, plump, briny and delicious. The mignonette was not the best I have ever tried, but worked just fine with the delicious oysters. The star of the meal was this mousse. I kept handing out bites on the toast provided (not enough - had to order more) and the executive chef and sous chef both just loved the balanced, nuanced flavors and creamy texture. WINNER! As many posters state, the prices are quite high end, which is fine when expectations are met. In many cases, I feel the high prices to be unearned (gnocchi), especially with their cocktail program ($19 for one shot of Grand Marnier!). But in some cases like the mousse, earned twice over! The longest bar in Marin is a fun place to sit, have a drink and an appetizer. As others have mentioned, the atmosphere is pleasant and Farmshop would be a destination in warm weather for sure! read more

I came here yesterday for a business lunch and lets just say that I am "unwell". I had the mussels - the broth was very tasty. The hunk of bread was really crispy (like a giant crouton) - I feel like normal break would have been easier to manage. The mussels varied in size- some were small and some were large. As a result, the small mussels were way over cooked and almost inedible ( meat disintegrated when I tried to remove from the shell) and the larger ones were just right. Some mussels with broken shells that hadn't opened were also in the bowl. However, a few hours later, I started to feel off. Not terrible but not ok. As of this morning and I definitely working through some stomach distress. My husband and I ate the same breakfast and dinner yesterday - this meal was the only thing I had separately from him and he's ok today. read more

This place is so average that even I can cook better, not to mention how crazy overpriced this place is. I went here with my family and we ordered cheese pizza, mushroom pizza, and there were some more dishes but those were just the main ones. When we came to our table, the couch part wasn't clean and it had crumbs all over it, like are you kidding me?! This is supposed to be like a four star restaurant but they can't clean? That's just so sad. Anyways the pizza tasted so average and all of our other dishes were so average. I could've gone to Bella Trattoria in San Francisco for like 1/2 of the price instead of going here. Probably one of the only good things I got here was the mexi sprite. I'm really disappointed with my experience, and the fact they charged my mom 200 DOLLARS!! Yes, 200 dollars for average food for four people. This long time restaurant continues to keep it's menu filled with interesting items from which to choose. We enjoyed our lunch out outside on a perfect Sunday afternoon. The hummus and pita bread were outstanding as was the artfully sliced vegetables that we used as dippers for the hummus. The summer chicken salad was fresh and delicious as was the lemon pizza that had just the right amount of citrus flavor in balance with the cheeses and other flavorings. Of course, we enjoyed a glass of wine from the list of familiar brands we often enjoy. Good service, good food in a welcoming shopping center at Larkspur Landing made for an enjoyable get together with friends. We look forward to returning soon. read more
