I'll be straightforward: the carne asada was disgusting! It was genuinely inedible. The meat tasted off, and I strongly suspect it had turned. This isn't the kind of place you'd go to for Mexican food, but even with my lowered expectations, it fell way short of even acceptable. Also for a sort of sports bar, having the game on mute while a ukulele band performed incredibly poorly, was a strange choice. It killed any chance of enjoying the evening. Well. It finally happened. My first one star review. We went here to see the singer who does a Frank Sinatra act and he was very pleasant and enjoyable. Our server was fine. We ordered a round of drinks and every one of them had little taste and we all agreed they were watery. Take a look at the photos of the drinks half full. They were bad. We told the server and she seemed sympathetic but nothing happened other than a cluck of the tongue. We had the mozzerela sticks and while a good size and having a good crunch they tasted like they were cooked in the same oil as other things. Just not good. Anyway. Almost $70 for lousy drinks and cheese sticks is just not a good thing. I simply cannot recommend this place and that is a first for me. read more

Fast Times is exactly what you would expect from a neighborhood bar: lively, a little loud, and full of energy on the weekends. The food is bar fare (nothing fancy, but hits the spot after a drink or two) and the ranch dressing deserves a special shout-out -- I'd buy it by the bottle if available. Saturday nights are where it really shines: live bands, great crowd, and that mixed generation "locals night out" vibe. They have a dog-friendly patio which is spacious and plenty of parking. All in all, a fun, casual spot to grab a drink, listen to some live music, and soak up that laid-back San Diego energy. read more

A local clairemont dive bar with a menu like you'd expect a San Diego bar to have. They serve burgers, fries, flatbreads, burritos, all the classic SD bar foods. Unfortunately their to go orders don't really live up to their menu descriptions. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt because I realize it's a bar and not a sit down restaurant but if you offer to go food orders, they should at least follow the description of your own menu. We ordered dinner for 5 with a mix of burgers, nachos, Chicken sandwich and carne asada fries. Unfortunately dish was wrong; either having something on it that was requested left off or completely missing while toppings that the menu says will be included. Regardless of the messed up orders the food wasn't particularly good either. Not sure what the bar experience is like inside, but maybe keep your food orders to dine in only. read more

We went with our friends to see Miff play (he's one of their neighbors) and was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was and more impressive the service was from Shawn. We sat on the patio bar which was good for the noise level. We could talk and still enjoy the music. read more

Perched on the top of Clairemont Drive, this elevated dive bar has refined what it means to feel at home at a local pour house. No more sticky floors, dim lighting, and musky smells. Swap that for open windows, natural light, clean furniture, a reputable kitchen, and an area for live music. We stopped in for a beer and an appetizer and instantly felt welcome. There is no fuss about this place, meaning you don't have to pretend to be someone you're not in order to fit in here. You see the relationship between staff and the regulars and you know you're in good hands. Gabe was at the bar when we got there and he was very professional yet could handle the banter and knew how to make everyone feel special, welcomed, and wanting to come back. The Carne asada tots are definitely worth it and should be on your must-try list from the menu. They were crispy, yet tender, hot, fresh, and a generous portion. I ended up splitting them and it kept us full for a while! If you're in the area or on your way to/from the Bay, make sure you stop by and meet your new neighbors because you're about to find home. read more

Games played on the overhead TV's and a live band played inside and could be heard everywhere. We ordered drinks and a flatbread. All came delivered with a smile and tasted very good. Fast Times attracts fun '80s bands, surprise surprise. It's also in Clairemont, where once upon a time Cameron Crowe went undercover at a high school and then made a movie about that. This Fast Times can overpack and completely overwhelm the bar staff and the HVAC. If the inside feels tropical and the patio is full, grab yourself a sandwich and some booze from the Sprouts across the lot and tailgate before going in. read more

This neighborhood bar is a hidden gem in Clairemont. They have a great beer list, generous happy hour, super friendly staff and the food is surprisingly decent as well. While it's technically a bar, it's also pretty family friendly - we bring our toddler in a couple times a month for the live music, especially when Cash Roberts is playing. She loves to dance with the other kids in front of the stage. All in all, highly recommended! read more

Great place for a band. They need more gluten free food. The tacos were so-so, and I wouldn't get again. There just don't seem to be a lot of food choices period. They need whip cream for Irish Coffees. They could really do something with this place if they could get a legitimate kitchen. But currently I'm not happy with food or drink here. read more

This is such a fun spot and in my opinion pretty unassuming! They would host a lot of events for my sports league, so I've been quite a lot. The food and drinks are all honestly really good. I used to go and watch the Saints play on TV every time they were on. The first couple of seasons I went I had fun and actually made a couple friends. You see I am a transgender woman. I don't make a fuss about it in-fact most people don't know. But as politics changed so did your atmosphere. Trans and gay comments and digs were mot uncommon. To the point I don't feel welcomed there. And I no longer enjoyed my time there. read more

Went to see Totally 80's Band last Saturday night. It was my first time to Fast Times. The band was amazing and drew in quite a crowd, as usual. The staff at Fast Times handled the crowd well. They also were so fun to be around. Servers came often to get orders and staff supplied ice cold water to the thirsty crowd as we danced all night. We will be back! read more

Sweet little joint in an area that I spend very little time in, but maybe I should! I love a bar that offers live music and Fast Times is exactly that. The sound is good, the drinks are affordable, and the place is clean. What more can you ask for? Ah, I know what else you can ask for, a nice and spacious outdoor patio to get away from the hustle/bustle inside and to catch a few breaths of fresh air. Came in during the week to watch the NBA Finals with some friends. Neighborhood bar, tons of regulars, everyone was friendly. Staff was pretty attentive, came around exactly when we needed them. Mixed drinks were good. Ordered a Michelada - tasted like the use Bloody Mary mix (not sure), won't order that again. We had - chicken sandwich, disappeared from my friends plate quick. The sampler platter was so-so, pick something else. The nachos with steak was my favorite! Crunchy chips & melty nacho cheese- liquid gold! Went to happy hour yesterday and loved the place. Let's talk about the ambiance - it is in a shopping center however the orientation of the restaurant seems ideal for that location. There are doors that open up in the back to allow for breezes. This is a local favorite. Many of the people coming in knew other people. They also have events and school reunions, which wasn't the case last night, these were just people coming to a familiar place to connect with others. You gotta love that. Food - we have a caesar salad, eli (Awesome), wings and chicken tenders. All were good except I didn't like the breading on the chicken tenders. Drinks - I forget what I ordered but they were good. Shawn was awesome, constantly checking to see if we needed anything. Side note - we hated the band, not our cup of tea but maybe we were alone in that opinion. Opinion- when you have a nostalgic bar like this, following the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High, I think the music should be around that same time frame. Just a thought. Came to see a friends band, had no idea how busy this place is. Wall to wall people. It is a find your own seat place, which kind of sucks, but whatever. We found one and it was a chilly night, we found one on the far end away from everyone outside. Our waitress was amazing and eventually scored us a table near a heater and helped us move. The Big Stick drink is a must, taste exactly like a boozey big stick. The food in general was pretty good. Even though it was super packed the service was fantastic. I recently went to fast times for the first time ever since they opened as part of a 45 year high school reunion here in Claremont and I've gotta say just how highly impressed and happy I was with everything about the venue. From the moment I arrived with my other friend, the level of service the atmosphere the friendliness of the staff was all outstanding. Everything with regards to our needs were met the manager, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful time and the seven hours that we spent there was just incredible. Our primary location that was reserved was on the outside patio. We had beautiful weather, not a surprise for San Diego, but we also had full access to the bar inside the amenities and the staging location for the buffet which had been set up for us. Nothing overly fancy some Mexican hors d'oeuvres as far as roll tacos quesadillas salad, rice beans, tortilla chips, guacamole, which was perfect for everyone in attendance and I know that other people also ordered from the menu and we're quite pleased with it. As a result, I definitely will not stay away so long and will go again to enjoy the location. The live music that came in and performed at the later stages of the evening as we were winding down was excellent and a lot of us stayed for that as well.
