My team is back in Saint Louis for our quarterly meetup and planning sessions and my reputation as a Yelper has gotten around. My manager asked me to choose where we would go for dinner. He specified Italian on The Hill, able to seat a party of 14 and not terribly expensive. Easy enough. I selected Favazza's as it met that need and also, because they're open on Tuesday nights. So many others on The Hill are not. I read through the menu, checked prices and settled on this one. Our group arrived on time to a mostly empty restaurant where our big table was set up in the furthest back dining room. A few other parties were wrapping up their meals and after a bit, we had the space to ourselves. First off, our waitress Kelly was awesome. A friendly and experienced veteran, she rolled with the questions, with the "actually, I want something else" order changes and did a fabulous job of ensuring that drinks were refilled, dinners came out as ordered and everything ran smoothly. Calamari, cheese garlic bread and artichoke hearts to start and that's on top of the baskets of regular bread that arrived. My side salad was great and fresh other than two lettuce cores I set to the side. For main, I chose the Chicken Limone and it was heavenly with mushrooms and a great sauce. The imported pinor noir I enjoyed with it was also fantastic. To summarize, nothing but five stars for the food, for the location and for the service. Stopped in here for lunch with the team during a work trip. They were very complimentary of this place, so I was looking forward to the experience. We sat outside in the patio area, which in mid April can be a good thing or a bad thing in St. Louis. For us it was a very good thing, the outside is very comfortable and the server was very attentive. My main dish was the chicken marsala. It was very good and prepared well, but the flavor wasn't quite as strong as I've encountered back east in Italian restaurants in New York or Boston. This is not a bad thing, it was just different, and I enjoyed the dish very much. The side of pasta was very good as well. Everyone at the table was very content with their meal and I was too. We arrived on a busy Friday night with no reso. They gave us a 30 minute wait time which we decided to sit through at the bar. The bartender was "adrenaline rush" busy but he stayed present and checked in on us regularly. The place was seriously slammed! We were seated in a back dining area. It was full and noisy but kinda felt like I was at a family party. Decor in the bar and main dining room was traditional. We loved the brass elephant heads at the bar. Our extended family is a big fan of Favazza's, so we go from time to time with them. We went last week with my Aunt & Uncle, and it was great. The dining room(s) are charming, but getting a bit dated, in all honesty. Since it's on "The Hill", it's not necessarily an issue, but in any other neighborhood, I think others would agree with me that it needs some sprucing up. Regardless, the ambiance has a fancy and classy feel to it. The service we had was fine. Everyone is dressed up and respectful, but sometimes the service lacks personality at these places because they're so worried about being "ritzy". This is the case we had last week. Regardless, also a fine experience in this category. The food was DELICIOUS last week. We started with the Toasted Ravioli. You can tell it's the real-deal -- the filling is excellent. Our entrees were also phenomenal. I got the Chicken Limone and it was tangy and luscious. Genuinely one of the best Italian dishes I've had before. The dinner salads, side pasta and phenomenal garlic bread were an added bonus. Favazza's may be older and their service may lack personality, but their food is nothing to scoff at. Every year, my wife and I seek out a new spot for a romantic dinner on Valentine's Day and what better place to celebrate than the Hill? Favazza's has a well-established reputation in STL and the food to back it up. We arrived just before 6 pm to meet our reservation. Despite an understandably busy evening, we were seated and ordering drinks within just a few minutes. Walking through the spacious dining room lets you soak in the elegant, cozy atmosphere. Paired with the soundtrack of traditional Italian music played at a comfortably low volume, it's an excellent venue for conversation between each bite. The service slowed down about halfway through our visit, but it's to be expected (especially when Valentine's Day lands on a Saturday). Our server was friendly, answered a few questions about the menu, and we were easily held over by (what was probably too much) complimentary bread before the main course. To start, we tried the fried cheese with marinara: as rich as we'd hoped, rivaling one of our favorite Rich & Charlie's appetizers. After some internal debate, I chose the Steak Mudega (medium rare) while my wife went for the Baked Mostiaccioli. We also shared the two sides served for my entree - Caesar Salad and twice baked potato. So many wonderful textures and flavors, filling in the moment, and solid as leftovers. I especially enjoyed the mushroom and wine sauce that topped my filet, to say nothing of the steak itself. Dessert sounded amazing, but we couldn't eat another bite. We were seated in the "garage", a large room with multiple garage doors that turn the space into open air patio during the summer. In late November however, the room has a lovely wood burning fireplace which sets a peaceful atmosphere. The complementary bread was generously buttered and garlic-ed. We started with toasted ravioli which filled with a delicious meat filling. The small house salad was plenty to share between two and had generous salami toppings. I had the baked pasta with eggplant Parmesan. The serving was HUGE and served piping hot. My dining partner had the tutto mari which also was a larger serving. I swear I could write an entire 5-star review on just their spumoni. I'm not embarassed to admit that my partner and I have visited Favazza's on several occasions for the sole purpose of getting a dish of spumoni and nothing else! While the spumoni is probably my favorite part, there's lots of other things to love about Favazza's, too. I've been coming here with my dad for years, and it's one of our go-to's for good ole classic, reliable Italian food. The inside of the restaurant is huge. Lots of seating options, including a covered patio area and spaces that you can rent out for larger groups. I most recently visited during lunch with a group of seven to celebrate my college graduation. Our server took such good care of us. She was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. We were even more impressed by her ability to recite the lengthy and detailed specials for the day with no hesitation! My group started with an order of their famous garlic cheese bread and some toasted ravs. Both were excellent. I also had a caesar salad, and it was HUGE and delicious. I probably would've been fine sharing the salad with my partner because it was a lot of food! Whether I'm eating here for lunch or dinner, I am very loyal to the penne primavera, which includes olive oil, garlic, tomato with fresh vegetables and basil. Very light and flavorful, and I always get to take home leftovers! Now back to the spumoni... no matter how full you feel by your meal, you MUST find a little room for this ice cream! There's a lot of incredible Italian food on The Hill but Favazza's on the Hill is not one to overlook. This is hands-down my husband's favorite restaurant (fun fact: it's also where we had our first date), so it'll always have a special place in my heart and it always feels special to us to come back here! Everything we've ordered has been consistently incredible! Classic Italian done right. Rich, comforting flavors, generous portions, and dishes that taste like they've been perfected over decades. It's the kind of food you think about the next day and immediately want again. No notes. Just pure, satisfying, crave-worthy Italian comfort food. The outdoor patio is SO cozy. I'm a sucker for eating outside, and they've really nailed the atmosphere, especially with the fireplace. It feels warm, inviting, and perfect for lingering over dinner. Inside is just as lovely: calm, intimate, and ideal for conversation. I personally don't find it too dark at all. If anything, it sets the mood and makes it feel like a true date-night spot. Our visit to Favazza's on The Hill in the STL was fantastic! We decided to celebrate Valentine's Day a day after because that's when the amateurs aren't out crowding the restaurants. We had reservations and got right in without any wait. We were able to split a big and delicious Caesar salad. The pasta dishes that were so tasty! I don't like mushrooms and I was able to get mine without. There was so much food we had lunch for the next day. Any restaurant on the hill gives you that small Italian neighborhood experience. Been wanting to try more Italian restaurants on the Hill in STL and Favazza's on the Hill came highly recommended. We visited on. Saturday evening before the dinner rush and without a reservation. Our hostess needed a few extra minutes to accommodate several parties arriving at the same time, so we waited in the bar for a hot minute but was able to get a table without any trouble. I did see their drink menu and Favazza's has several tasty libations worth trying. Favazza's has the traditional intimate dining decor you would expect but and had plenty of seating to accommodate any size of group. Our server and staff were quick to provide refreshments and provide an overview of the daily specials. Our server was very friendly and answered every question regarding the menu. We order some toasted raviolis with marinara and some crispy artichoke hearts with fresh lemon while contemplating in what to order for our main course. In watching several tables being served their entrees, be warned portions are hearty and can easily serve 2. We ordered the lemon chicken, baked mosticotti and the special of the day which was basked served in a butter sauce with spinach, mushrooms and chicken. All dishes took a few extra minutes to be served but were pippin hot and full of flavor. I normally enjoy past with more sauce and will ask for extra next time as my pasta was a little dry. Everything else was perfect and again very large portions. To finish off our dining experience we ordered tiramisu and chocolate amaretto cake. Both were so delicious we could've order more. I've been to STL a billion times, even lived there for a few years as a small child, and still somehow had never actually been to "The Hill." I was intrigued, I mean I love Italian food, love that there's some history here, and had to just see it all and have the experience. One thing I learned, if you're really keen on a certain spot, particularly around the weekend, you need a reservation. Our group struck out on trying to secure one in time but ultimately chose Favazza's because they don't accept reservation. If you eat early, you're likely to get in. The restaurant went back with lots of tables, and nearly three separate dining rooms. It's more casual than I was picturing, with the lights up bright and the tables not particularly cozy, but fine. Food was good! I was hungry and we had some buttery garlic bread to start, and a crisp Italian side salad. Both hit the spot after a busy couple of days. I then ordered the Tortellini Alla Panna which is meat-filled pasta in alfredo sauce with prosciutto, peas and mushrooms. Rich, huge portions, and all around very good. I could probably make myself full just thinking about it. As if we hadn't consumed a week's worth of food yet, we also then shared a tiramisu which was perfect. The service was fine, they seem to crank people in and out in order to keep the tables turning over. While it wasn't one of those "pause after every bite, out-of-body experiences," it was still quite good and I am glad to have had an experience on The Hill. read more

In an effort to try out more restaurants on the hill, I decided to give Favazza's a try. I came here on a Friday and after having browsed the menu prior to my arrival, I was dead set on getting the Chicken Siciliana. I walked in and was greeted promptly. I'm not sure if it's always that busy for lunch or if it was just that day, but I was worried there'd be a wait due to the amount of people. Luckily, there wasn't and I was offered a choice of a couple different tables. I chose a two-top near the wall, since there were no booths available and I didn't want to be seated right next to someone. I was shocked at how close the tables were together and while I only saw the front part of the restaurant, I assumed the rest of the restaurant would be the same. Once I sat down, one of the bussers came and brought water and bread. I was starving and had seen previews of the garlic bread at the table, so I thought that's what I was getting. Sadly, I was informed that's only for dinner. What was off putting was getting cold bread! I tried to flag down the same busser that delivered it but couldn't get her attention. I ended up eating a few pieces but skipped the butter because with the bread already being cold, there's no way the butter would have spread evenly. Oh well. After a few mins, the sever came back and took drink and appetizer orders. I stuck with water and listened as he gave the daily specials. Once I heard the tenderloin, I chose that over the Siciliana. One of the best things about getting lunch during the week are the smaller portions and getting a salad and side with it. While the garden salad comes with it, I opted for the Caesar salad and chose the white sauce for my pasta. The salad came out first and was just what I needed. It was much larger than I expected, but who am I to complain, especially since I was hungry? A few minutes later, my main arrived. After one bite, I knew I made the right choice. It was cooked perfectly and was tender & juicy. they certainly put their food in it when they made it! Wow! I'm used to the chicken version of this but the steak version is equally good if not better! Needless to say, this didn't last long. I all but woofed it down whilst still maintaining the little decorum I came in with! Once I was finished, the server came and dropped off the bill, I paid and then left. Had a fun dinner here with friends recently. The covered patio area with a fire going created a warm and inviting atmosphere. It was lively and i enjoyed myself tremendously. Our server was a bit distant but the service she provided was satisfactory. The bartender on the other-hand was a ball of energy. Very engaging and explained how they make their unique Old Fashioned (which was fantastic by the way, albeit a bit overpriced at $19). We had a lovely conversation before being led to our table. (Note to self- make a reservation). Worked for us and man was it packed! When we left people were standing all over waiting to be seated. Service was super attentive. They didn't try to push any up charges which was nice. They have a gf menu (wonderful! For an Italian restaurant.) They started us off with a garlic bread basket... I'm not much of a bread eater but this garlic bread was irresistible! The gf bake was rated as A+. The dinner salad dressing was memorable. Even to the point where we contemplated purchasing a bottle (which they sell). Okay- so where they missed the mark: Cavatelli shrimp Mario was more Marinara than garlic oil base. Plenty of shrimp way too many peppers and almost no mushrooms. Looking at other's pics of this dish there seems to be some variability of what your dish will entail. The worst of the dishes we ordered: the Cavatelli con broccoli. It was very underwhelming. If the title of the item has BROCCOLI so I was expecting lots of broccoli. The description has mushrooms so I was expecting some mushrooms. Well I had 2-3 medium crowns of broccoli and maybe 4-5 super thin slices of mushroom... like you had to go hunting for mushrooms... so... if we go back, this will not be something we order. We almost didn't come because of that but I'm so glad we made the trek from Illinois to check this place out before we headed to our Muny show last night! Michael was our server--he was the best we have had anywhere in a very long time. So personable, anticipated our needs, and was incredibly friendly and provided top notch service all around! The food--it was all EXCEPTIONAL! You can tell the ownership and cooks take a lot of pride in this place--it shows! It all came out hot--we had the toasted raviolis and crispy artichokes for an appetizer, salad, margarita pizza, pastas, and the steak special. Steak was cooked perfectly, pizza was so fresh and homemade, and the pasta was to die for. Everything tasted super fresh and made from scratch! Regretted not trying dessert but we were stuffed and heading to a show--definitely getting some next time! Had the espresso martinis and wine as well--the drinks were great! Super fast service and hot food with amazing hospitality.. it was worth every penny and we will DEFINITELY be back soon!! This is a classic go to for our family birthday dinners. We typically have a large group of 11+ and they always are pretty good about accommodating us if we call in advance and make reservations for our table. They have a smaller dining area for large groups in the bottom part of their restaurant which always gives our group enough privacy and time to finish our meal. I always am happy that they have two private lots as well as street parking around the restaurant for when you come, especially on busy nights like this one. Our server Riley, and her co-server were very great throughout the meal. They made sure we always had full glasses of water and any additional items that we may have needed throughout the course of our dinner. Great assortment of options on the menu from salads, to pasta, and pizza. Every meal starts off with an assortment of fresh bread and garlic bread, which we always enjoy. I tried one of their seafood options that comes with salad and a side. The salmon comes with a lemon butter sauce, which was pretty good, but the lemon kind of overpowered the dish some. It was my first time here and my family and I felt right at home, being of Italian-American ancestry ourselves. The portions are big without sacrificing any taste. First, the restaurant is. Wishful and the service was superb. The door however I thought was a little disappointing. We started out with the toasted raviolis. They seemed like they needed a bit longer in the fryer and were just lacking in flavor. They tasted like something you would buy frozen in the store. My son had the mostaccioli with meatballs. The meatballs were pretty much inedible, tasted freezer burnt with more bread crumbs than actual meat. None of at the table could eat them. Favazza's is the best. A place to go when you want a special night with friends. If you've never been you would think the prices are a little steep and that other places on the hill are cheaper. You would be right and wrong. The quality at Favazza's is evident when you want in the door. From the friendly host (even though the place was packed) and the attentive waitstaff to the top of the line food and presentation this place is worth every penny. The portions are huge, the salad is great, the drinks had the perfect amount of alcohol, the appetizers are enough to share between 4 people (I hate it when you order an appetizer and aren't told that while there are 6 people at your table there are only 3 pieces!), and all of the food - cooked perfectly. Make sure you get a reservation!! This is what our table of 4 ate; Charbroiled Filet Mignon... this guy always gets a steak. It was cooked perfectly to his liking and he even gave me a piece so I could report here (nice guy). I can say that between the spices and tenderness it was fantastic. Side note, don't worry we'll get back to the table, I used to only like my steaks well done. No red, pink... none of that. Then one day I came to Favazza's with some of my friends. One of them ordered a steak medium. I tasted it and I now order my steaks medium. I can appreciate steaks cooked at different stages and really appreciate the meat served. Back to the table. The chicken Alfredo. This is a go-to for this person. When it came out we looked at each other and said..."lunch for the next couple days". Soooo much food. Noodles were cooked perfectly and sauce/chicken ratio to noodles was just the right amount. The chicken prosciutto. While I didn't get to taste this... he was NOT sharing, I did get to taste the twice baked potato and honestly, I've never wanted a potato more. The creaminess of that potato. It melted in your mouth. I'll admit I was kind of bummed that I chose pasta as a side although I always get the pasta with the meat sauce because that meat sauce. Wowza! I got the Chicken Sicilian. I always like to get something different when I come here and shockingly I'd never gotten one of their most requested items. I can see why. This was no ordinary chicken and lemon. We ordered more bread because I had to sop up that olive oil on my plate. Seriously...so tasty. It may make me break my rule and get it again instead of something new next time. Yes, of course there will be a next time. Another side note... or rather a couple...I moderate a class at WashU and 3 times during that class we order pizza and salad from Favazza's for lunch. Sadly I've never reviewed that but let me tell you that the students love the pizza, the salad and the cookies. I even ordered a gluten free pizza for one of the students and he said it was amazing. They always bring a huge amount of food and are always early, friendly and helpful. 2nd side note... during the pandemic my friends and I would meet once a week in one of our friend's back yards (distancing ourselves) and order food from various restaurants because we were concerned how they could possibly stay open. We ordered from Favazza's quite a bit. They were always super nice and all the food is packaged for travel. We never had a spill or had something taste mediocre.
